Mr_Anony: What exactly are these basic human decency & principles and why must anyone or everyone adhere to them?Things people generally consider to be desirable traits. Like honesty, kindness, fairness, hard work. I never said everyone must adhere to them. |
Wahala90: It is difficult to argue with an atheist because he would have no reason to tell the truth.I don't understand. Are you saying that your primary reason for telling the truth is that you're afraid of being cast into hell fire for lying? What happened to basic human decency & principles? |
Driving with shoes on must be much harder for women, because women's shoes are far less comfortable than men's shoes. |
It's a good idea, but dispute resolution can be costly, which will make the items being sold more expensive. That's bad because Nigerians are very price sensitive. |
Ileke-IdI:That's the official policy. But many moderators have chosen to ignore it and, since I'm not a dictator, it's been difficult for me to enforce it. |
@ogugua88: we also permit thread locking if the creator of the thread requests for it, and in the case of duplicate topics. |
ogugua88: Lock it to clean it? We've done that before. Many moderators developed a habit of locking threads permanently or for very long periods of time, so we phased out that practice months ago. If lots of people are breaking the rules on a particular thread, moderators should warn them and ban anyone who persists from the section for a reasonable period of time, in addition to cleaning the thread. That's our current policy. |
ogugua88: Did you know that the rules say "always post on topic" and "no personal attacks or public fights"?Yes, I wrote those rules. But I can't remember the part where the punishment for those crimes is to lock the threads on which they occurred. |
ogugua88: Why's this thread still open? I thought the apology has been made and accepted already. We don't close threads on Nairaland unless they are duplicate threads or they violate the rules of the forum in one way or the other. |
funkybaby: It's perfectly okay to mock, insult and embarrass GEJ who still believes in one Nigeria but we are all bigots for voting Achebe who obviously wants a remix of the biafrian war while he's safely tucked away in USA on a wheel chairIt was not perfectly okay, but it was less offensive than selecting Professor Chinua Achebe for the hall of shame, so I took no action. Sorry. |
If seun had come forth to say that the whole exercise was offensive, then it would have been a different matter.I think that's exactly what I came out to say, but I'll be happy to say it again: the whole hall of shame exercise is offensive! Thank you. |
coogar: seun, i put it down to the fact that you don't live in a civilised society. in saner climes, inciting hatred falls under hate crime and there's a severe penalty for such. achebe would have been apprehended if our government has any common sense in nigeria but the system is so perverse i don't expect any government official to be bothered about achebe's book - they are more concerned about embezzlement!Doesn't Chinua Achebe live in the United States, which is a "civilized society"? Why hasn't he been arrested for his so-called "hate crime"? |
afam4eva: Now, i see where the problem is coming from. Why don't you select them yourself on your recommendation or appoint another super mod to work with Mukina. It's not right to run a site on the whim and caprice of one person. It's just an advice.Thank you for your advice. |
@desola: the fact that you're comparing Professor Chinua Achebe to sex offenders is a sign that whatever you're smoking is bad for your health! |
@Desola: Where did you get the idea that moderators are elected? That's false. Moderators are selected by me on mukina2's recommendation. |
@desola: What I understand from your rant is that you don't like Prof. Achebe, and by extension you don't like me for trying to prevent him from being shamed on Nairaland. This is unfortunate. You can't compare my action to June 12 because the election IBB annulled was a constructive election; the goal was not to shame any tribe or individual but to honour the winner with the presidential position. The hall of shame election is the exact opposite of that, and that's why many people are glad that it's been phased out. Nairaland should not be in the business of shaming great men over minor mistakes and tribal prejudice. That is simply unacceptable, in my opinion. |
freecocoa: Seun when will you apologize for refusing my advances towards you? Since you don't want to give in you should atleast apologizeI wasn't even aware of your advances. I apologize for that. Please send the full details of your advances to me via Facebook. Thanks and Merry Xmas! |
baksonlee: Why was the Hall of Shame thread closed? We do not want to alienate any ethnic group by shaming their widely respected role models. It's not worth it. |
Jarus and OAM4J: Thanks for accepting my apology. You guys are doing a good job. |
