Actually, Nairaland has been doing very well in your absence. You should not have forsaken the entire community out of hatred for one person.

Two wrongs do not make a right. If his book was divisive, we should not compound the problem by promoting more division with the hall of shame.

If Awolowo had been nominated the people clamouring for the removal of Achebe would have endorsed Awolowo for the hall of shame.
The single reason why they are clamouring for Achebe's removal is because he is their kinsmen.

If Pa Awolowo or Wole Soyinka or Tai Solarin or General Buhari had been selected for the hall of shame, the outcry would have been equally great. Shaming widely respected people for one mistake or the other is simply not constructive.

I voted for GEJ during the last election. However, I was not concerned because by his selection for the hall of shame because it was less divisive.

As far as I can tell, Professor Chinua Achebe hasn't killed anyone. He merely wrote a controversial book. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

Prof Corruption: Seun, what's more shameful than gagging the opinions of majority of Nairalanders who nominated him?

The fact that he got the most votes does not imply that Achebe haters are in the majority. Suppose 60% of Nairalanders, like me, support Chinua Achebe and think he doesn't deserve to be on the Hall of Shame, while just 40% think he deserves it. Because of the way voting works, Achebe's supporters won't have any way of influencing the results of the contest, even though they are in the majority. They may complain, but their complaints won't be counted, even though they are in the majority. In other words, the hall of shame system is biased towards negativity and hatred, even when it's held by a minority of members. And that's why the hall of shame should be terminated asap.

To those saying Chinua Achebe deserves to be on the Hall of Shame, let me ask you this: Why not Boko Haram? Why not the ALUU community?

Dear Nairalanders

A lot of people don't know this, but I'm not directly involved in the Nairaland end of year award process.
So, like many of you, I was shocked and appalled when I saw Chinua Achebe's name on the Politics section Hall of Shame contest.

I think this unacceptable development demonstrates the fact that the Politics Section Hall of Shame is not a constructive idea.
I hereby call on the Politics section moderators, Jarus and OAM4j, to end the divisive Hall of Shame contest and delete all related threads.

Clearly she doesn't want you to do it, but she does not trust you to keep it in your pants, so she's urging you to at least avoid getting anyone pregnant, or disgracing her by flaunting your 'conquests' in public. If you want her to trust you, you should prove yourself trustworthy by not doing it. Thank you.

I didn't choose to put my faith in evolution. I chose to believe what makes the most sense and fits the available evidence, most accurately. On the issue of the origin of species, that happens to be evolution. If someone develops a theory that better explains the evidence tomorrow, we will switch to it immediately. Science is not dogmatic. Good scientists are committed only to the truth; they do not swear allegiance to evolution or any other theory. They are only committed to discovering the truths of the universe, as revealed by evidence and sound logic.

I don't agree with their worldview. I'm trying to make it clear that science is not merely a dogmatic worldview that happens to be different from the one they have chosen to believe. If there was a way to prove the existence of God or the truthfulness of Christianity beyond reasonable doubt, every scientist would believe in God. I think what we need religious people to do is not to accept evolution per se, but to cast aside unproven dogmas and approach the world with open minds and sound judgement.

People believe that the bible is the literal word of God, even though the book is about 2,000 years old. You won't see scientists stubbornly clinging to 2,000 year old theories that are not supported by recent evidence. In science, a kid can challenge a professor's theories if his/her evidence is compelling.

I agree with that. I do not understand why evolutionists are so confident about their guesses about what prehistoric animals looked like. However, that doesn't change the fact that evolution is the best theory about how things came to be. When someone comes up with a better theory, we'll adopt it. That's the difference between science and religion. Science is dynamic. We learn new things every day. We are open to change when new facts emerge. I think some scientists go to far when they try to portray speculative theories as hard facts.

I'm very sorry that the way my suggestion was implemented by Tgirl4real has made people unhappy. I think Tgirl4real should select two members to be co-winners of the Family section posters of the year award if debrief08 gets the highest number of votes. This should make all parties involved happy. I think Tgirl4real should stop acting as if I changed the rules of the contest; I only offered a suggestion which made sense.

He then in his magnanimity opened a board, called it religion so that retaards like you could post yet you are here campaining that atheists should respect your belief. Are you a learner? Nairaland is an atheist creation, deal with that. If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen. If you feel your faith is being insulted in an atheist creation and community then go to yukos or whatever it was that Christ Embassy created. Capische?

I have great respect for Christians on Nairaland, and I've been doing and will continue to do whatever I can do to make them happy without harming the forum. Though I'm an atheist, I was brought up in a Christian environment, so I understand and appreciate the Christian view.
