2 facts to consider: 1) Due to inflation, the value of one million dollars is going down every year. Of course, we'll have more millionaires. 2) Most rich people today are paper millionaires or billionaires: their wealth is in overvalued public stocks and real estate. If Bill Gates decides to sell all his Microsoft shares at once, he will not recover the value of his supposed wealth. |
I bet it's really tasty; an undoubtedly rare culinary treat. I'm sure it's worth much more than 5,000 naira ($37). |
Hello there, We have talked about the things we really love to do. Can we know talk about the things we're really good at doing? I've noticed that sometimes, one may love to do something but not have the talent or skills to make a career out of it. Let's talk about those talents and skills here. I'll start with mine. Mathematics I've always been above average in Maths. I think I have an aptitude for maths, but it doesn't fully explain my academic performance when younger. The thing is that I'm really persistent when trying to solve technical problems. There was a time my sibling brought a maths assignment home, and when I finally came up with the solution, simply said, "I told my friends not to worry because you'll find the answer". I was so proud. My ability to apply academic knowledge in mathematics to programming made it seem as if I was built for a career in commercial software development. I remember spending weeks deriving equations to use in a simplified 3d racing game, a smooth curve plotter for graphing, and a 3d rendering engine for scenes built out of basic geometric shapes intersecting each other (spheres, planes, and cylinders). That persistence. Computing I was fortunate to learn BASIC at the age of nine during a 2 week holiday course, and I immeidately developed a lot of interest. Unfortunately I couldn't develop that knowledge to satisfactory extent due to limited sponsorship - I only got to learn C++ and other languages after graduating from secondary school. I wanted to be a programmer but I couldn't practice this dream until I left OAU-Ife early, which is when I discovered how little I love commercial programming (now I'm a webmaster). Due to my sheer experience with computers, I type really fast and it helps! {to be continued} What about you? What are your talents and skills? What are you really good at doing? |
My lack of consideration is appalling. Please forgive me! ![]() I'd like to apologize with the following picture:

I've noticed that most of the things we say we love to do have nothing to do with our careers. How come? ![]() |
I agree, but that's not enough. Anyone who engages in sex outside marriage should be stoned to death. sarcasm |

Layi, I just wanted you to realise that all religions have a way of explaining contradictions in their texts. It's not only the contradictions in Christianity that can be successfully defended by someone who is sufficiently creative. ![]() |
When Ronaldo was young, he used to play with all his strength, but his body couldn't take the strain, so he started getting injuries all the time. Now he manages himself by carrying his body gingerly. This makes him blunt. Poor Ronaldo. |
They are providing an excellent service and their reward for it is money. That's how and why capitalism works. Those who provide the highest quality of education will reap the highest level of rewards in form of money. This motivates the schools to do their best. The best way to motivate people to do the right thing: provide an adequate reward! |
Your site is full of questions, but you failed to provide any answers to those questions. Why? |
Interswitch ATM cards can be used for online payment (including donations, I presume). www.interswitch-ng.com |
I agree with Logical based on what I read on an Islamic website. "Satan" in Islam isn't just a person. It represents evil. |
Nigeria, like many nations throughout the world, deals with corruption. Its unique form of official corruption, named prebendalism, finds numerous parallels in foreign systems like nomenklatura ("nomenclature," or the naming of Communist-friendly individuals to political, military, and civilian positions) in the former Soviet Union and guanxi ("relationship" in China, among others. Like these patron-client methods (see Patronage), prebendalism deals with the advancement of an individual who looks to his/her respective people for favors or support to get into office. However, unlike nomenklatura and guanxi, once in office, this individual then repays his supporters with sums of money, not land or jobs. Prebendalism is so widespread that it reaches up into the top levels of the Nigerian government; former Nigerian dictators Ibrahim Babangida and Sani Abacha are responsible for the disappearance of over US$5 billion into the ranks of their supporters. This form of corruption, however, does not include everyone. Many times the favor-seeking or -repaying is only done within the individual's own ethnicity or religious background. For example, an Igbo seeking a position in the federal government would ask favors of his/her fellow Igbo people to gain this office. Another example would be in dispensing government grants; a Hausa-Fulani official would be most likely to support any Hausa-Fulani seeking government funds over people from the various other racial groups or ethnicities found in Nigeria. Prebendalism is very much prevalent in the social and political fabric of Nigeria. In fact, this corruption is so stubbornly ingrained within the societies of Nigeria that little has been done to end the corruption. The extent of prebendalism's stranglehold on the Nigerian bureaucracy is such that it prevents the nation from being able to practice the democratic government it has been striving for since the creation of the First Republic. The creation of political "loyalty pyramids" is another hinderance to the development of the state. Still being ruled by the traditonal notion of the "big man," Nigeria must put an end to prebendalism if it wants any chance at becoming a truly legitimate and democratic nation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prebendalism Wow, we have invented our own unique system of political corruption. Isn't Nigeria great? ![]() |

An off-topic post is one that's not related to the topic. An off-topic thread is one that's not related to the section in which it's posted. Offtopic and worthless topics go into the Offtopic section or chatterbox! Good luck and welcome to Nairaland, buddy! |

The petro-funds account is probably not a contingency bank account, else this wouldn't be a scandal worth reporting. |
Think of it as a club of drunkards. Ok, that is a gross exxageration. Sorry guys! |
I'm glad that the bill was squashed. Unecessary laws limit our freedom to enjoy our lives! |
