cris83: To the gurus in the house, i would like your opinions. I have gone through this thread and i am glad its helping a lot of us with visa issues. Myself presently is awaiting 221g in June (that was the earliest date i got) and unfortunately i do not have back up of my saved ds 160 forms as i lost mine as well as my mom not once but twice (the first one i used to successfully renew our visa) and the second one lost due to laptop malfunctions. This is our second renewal. I have been trying to recall what i filled in both scenarios and what could have possibly raised a flag that requested us for another interview and my conclusion arrived at how much i earn (its quite basic at about 40k monthly) as its a family business owned by my mother. With respect to my mom, her income is very stable and we have never flouted any rules whatsoever while in the USA. My first visit, i spent 3 months in Indiana for holidays while her first visit was just a month in California with my elder sibling visiting a relative. The second visit was together (my mom and i) to New York and we spent just a month for the holidays. Visa expired last June and i did dropbox by November until i received the 221g issue.
I would like to respectfully ask for any advice on what we should prepare ourselves on since i have no backups. Also do i need to build my account plus taking our bank statements to the interview, will that help our cause (as i have read on this thread the VOs do not even bother to look at it) least to show that i certainly have strong ties here as i will eventually take over the business from her. Thank you guys! Are you serious about the bolded? |

OmoBendel24: Much as this seem not far from correct, I believe that those may be easier if you are genuinely qualified for a visa and in order with requirements (which are almost straightforward). They scrutinise both your submitted documents and you na, which the Americans won’t do. You can easily marshal your points with them via your application without being interviewed as usual and get your visa approved. In the US case, easy as we assume it to be on the surface, the case can be different and you may just leave the interview hall even dumber than you came in with the minutest mistake you or “even the VO” makes so to speak. You and I know that there’s a marked difference between that Section 214(b) generic paper people get and the UK visa refusal paper, we know.... Anyways, for me, I got the US visa first however on first attempt without actually breaking a sweat, but from understanding today I will say it will be easier to first get a UK visa before that of the US if you are really qualified for both with unequivocal proofs. Another angle.... The uncertainty of U.S Visa is a source of concern. |

JenKendall: Hello,
So I just arrived the US and here is my POE transcript. POE was Atlanta and this is my first time in the US. During my visa interview, I stated that I intended to visit New York on holiday, but that didn't happen.
Me: Hi Goodmorning CBP: Goodmorning lovely, how are you today? Me: I'm very well thank you, how is it going? CBP: Ehhhh, Not bad Me: *hands over passport* CBP: What's your purpose of visiting the US? Me: I am attending a training course and I took a couple of days afterward to sightsee CBP: Where is the training taking place? Me: Houston, Texas. that's my final destination CBP: What do you do? Me: I am a xxxxxxx CBP: Oh really, stand over there and please stand still so I can take a photo you Me: Okay CBP: *Stamps me in for six months while asking if I brought in any prohibited items* Me: Not at all CBP: okay have a great day Me: You too.
After reading this thread before my trip, I was so scared because everyone said you had to use the visa for what it was given for in the first instance. That is totally not true. I must add that everyone's case is different. While it was my first time visiting the US, I had a very good travel history from other countries such as the UK and Schengen countries - maybe that helped. It is also very important that you are honest all through. They can spot dishonesty from a mile away. Be confident, assertive and honest. Nice one, hope you have a nice trip. |

doctor108: Hello House. This is just to appreciate those that contributed and adviced me almost 2 years ago on this thread after my visitors visa was denied. I was denied in Abuja on the 27th of March 2017. I applied to visit my then US Citizen fiancée that I met online. She visited me in January 2017 after talking for 1 yr 6 months. We got engaged and fixed our wedding for September 2017 and in March 2017, her family said I should visit. I remember I ran back to this forum to drop a very long and hilarious transcript and the following people gave valuable advice.
Seyewest wrote. “Wow... I gbadun your story oooo... but you need to do more research and also tell your fiancee to do more research.. Good luck in your endeavor.”
Omobendel wrote, “Had to quickly scroll back to see who this poster was. Wow! Na you, your head dey dia my broda.... Regards” I love the emotions, the success stories, the hope and aspirations of every prospective applicant and most importantly, the experienced guys always giving valuable guidance like I was guided right 2 years ago.Thank you all. In future my parents will want to visit and I know where to come for the latest “as e dey happen for US Embassies gists in Nigeria. Always hilarious... Congrats bro.. Wishing you the best as usual. |

ozymes: Dear Members, Please just a clarification. If one does a Dropbox visa renewal application and was called for a 221g interview and the interview was successful and B1/B2 Visa issued. When filling a renewal form when the current visa must have expired, what would be the answer to the question have you ever been denied/refused a US visa before?
Cc: @Justwise, seyewest, omobendel No... I think you can only be refused a U.S Visa by a Consular/CBP officer unless they sent a refusal mail/document to you. |

Mancala: Truth is that either visa category may work. She just needs to get her story straight in line with the intent. If she says she wants to do a short visit and come back, then B2 is preferrable. If she wants to state that she is going to stay for sometime say like 6 months+ with her husband, then F2 works too. In that case, she should get a leave of absence from work and go stay with him. But at 9 months to the end of his program is kind of pushing it (Her F2 will expire when his F1 expires). I wonder why she did not do this from the get go and stay with him for a while then could have been coming and going on an F2? With an F2, she could have started part time courses and even converted to F1 through 593. It was even possible before to get a work permit on F2 (not sure about this anymore). They could also have had their childern in the U.S. with no future problems on an F2. Okay... I am saying too much , I am spoiling market for imigration attorneys... the game is to be sold, not to be told |

Mancala: Forgive my impertinence, but I believe they will treat an F2 application like she wants to move there and stay for the remaining duration of her husbands study as this is the actual purpose of an F2. I am no expert but I'd guess that if she states that she only intends to visit for a short while and return, they may ask why not apply for a B2? I suspect this may be why her original F2 application was denied as the stated intent does not match the visa category. That's another angle which I think is better suited for her reason of traveling... I think you're right. B2 may do the magic but the formula is with the applicant she must be prepared to convince the V.O. |

OmoBendel24: The OP can actually use that visa to arrive at a US POE up until 13th of May I think or even 14th without issues especially if he has previously used it for the purpose for which it was first issued. It's however up to the CBP officials to determine whether to let him in or not, and for how long too. He could get the standard 180 days still despite his visa just having a few hours to expire as at time of being stamped in, it's normal. Overstay officially is when you do a minute more than the number of days the CBP officer stamped you in for if you didn't apply for extension (you fall out of status immediately and the visa in your passport even if it has more time to expire actually becomes cancelled) and you earn yourself a 3 years ban, if you do more than 365 days you get a 10-year ban. Do note that you can be stamped in for as short a time as the officer determines to be appropriate too. If it was me ooooo.... I will renew my visa atleast 6 weeks before expiration... I don't like taking that kind of risk.. |

To be honest, I will advise you to stay away from U.S Embassy for 5 yrs and through that 5 yrs make sure you visit countries with quality visa process e.g UK, EU, Japan, S.Korea, Australia, Canada etc You must show that you're not a flight risk and also develop your other ''ties'' so that by the time you re-apply to visit U.S and coming clean at the embassy, it will be easy for you to get a visa to visit U.S. |

If they are sceptical of getting denied a renewal, have they run foul of US laws previously.
The can be denied entry at POE even with the valid Visa if there's any pending issue. If you apply for Visa renewal, your current visa will be cancelled no matter the expiry date on it (Even though they deny or issue the visa). |
