Since joining this thread for almost a decade with different Usernames, i can finally share a transcript today.
I had my interview this morning at US consulate in Lagos for 6:45am appointment.
After the normal check-ins and all, i was the first person to be interviewed by the guy in cubicle 3.
First thing i noticed on his table was a heap of blue sheet - no single white paper at sight, my confidence flew away and i was saying to myself "shey this guy no plan to give anybody visa today?"
Trancript below

Vo - Pass me your passport (the guy appear like person wey no won work, e no even greet me)
Me - I passed it to him
Vo - Why are you going to the US?
Me - To attend an international conference on digital health
Vo - What is digital health?
Me - I told him(upon all my preparation i no prepare for this question, so i stuttered at the start but later gathered momentum)
Vo- What do you plan to gain from this conference?
Me - I told him (but i spoke more on my poster...mentioned the importance to me as an Epidemiologist )
Vo - But i thought you are a Veterinarian (he saw that on my Ds160 i suppose)
Me - Yes am a Veterinary Epidemiologist
Vo - How long have you been working?
Me- I answered
Vo - Are you married?
Me - Yes
Vo - You have kids?
Me- Yes, 2
Vo - Who is sponsoring this trip?
Me - Myself
Vo- Do you have your Account statement there?
Me - sighed, i do not have it with me here (i no carry my statement cuz of some things i read here that it is so impt...infact, the only document i took along with me aside appointment and Ds160 confirmation was the Invitation Letter for the conference, Marriage and my Kid's birth certificate)

Na so he put hand for up on the shelf, and brought a white paper, wrote my name on it, circled an address and wrote Bank statement on the 5 o'clock corner of the paper.
He handed out the paper to me and told me to send my Bank statement to the circled address, and my passport.

To my questions:
1. For people that have had experiences close to mine...i stay outside lagos, can i courier the statement of account and passport to the GSS Document collection Center address circled...or i must take it there myself physically?

2. Do i need to attach any cover-letter while dispatching the docs.

3. How do i know when my Visa has been approved and affixed to my passport?
If you can, please do everything physically and after submission of the docs, check www.ceac.state.gov for update on your visa... Congrats in advance.

Thanks decided to go for the interview.
Brief Background- got my first us visa 11 years ago. Since then I have had 4 us visas, including an f1 visa to do a masters (an ivy league uni) came back immediately after the end of my program. no opt, no overstay.

Was also a student in the UK from 15-21. and I have a 14 year travel history in the UK

Observations - they were loads of people today. I got there at 9:30 and I was number 900. Only 5 people were given the white slip. So many tears and the tension was palpable.

Mine was a 221g because i was not entitled to dropbox because my last visa was issued in the uk.

VO: Passport
Me: hands in passport
VO: how many kids do you have?
Me: shocked I don't have any kids not even married.
VO: where do you work?
Me: I am currently doing my legal training at the NigeriaN law school to enable me practice law here..
VO: How long do you intend to stay in the us
Me: 2 weeks
VO: When does your program end at the law school?
Me- Nov
Vo: why do you want to travel?
Me: vacation to celebrate end of law school exams and shop
Vo: how many siblings?
Me: 3 - 1 here, 2 in the Uk
VO: what area of law do you want to practice in?
Me: blah blah tied it back to the llm i did in the Us
Vo: after law school, what next
Me: get a job and reap all the investments i made paying fees in the us and uk
Vo: visa approved
took the white paper and left

Overheard a Vo ask a guy repeatedly why he chose a certain school and brother couldn't say jack? like for real!
Overheard a man tell the VO his wife has a successful legal practice and yet they were still turned down...

Wow! I am just glad this is over...
be honest, be truthful and please get travel history from a country like the UK.. for at least 2 years before going to the us. They know we have a lot of ties to the uk. so that should be your first travel experience logically!
Congrats... I love good news.

I have agreed with what you said , i Just want to know you personally, Most of the time we don't know the people we commune with behind a programming, you may help me out in the nearest future and i will appreciate that's why i deemed it fit to ask for your private chat.

The way you use words, i sight some kind of confidence in you, some boldness that is very rare.
I love people with courage and i must confess am in love with you already.

Away from here, i did love to know you, am done contributing, i cannot help anyone here as i am derailing, all i desire is to meet you bro and i am crazy about it.

Travel History and Not married is only a clause not a barrier, i thought, because everyone i know who got their Visas on this note aren't on Naiaraland, maybe they could have been of help to my argument right now, ....

I still love you.

221 G interview dilemma

So I have an 11 year travel history to the US and I was invited for a 221g interview and my interview date is today. But my dad's bank statement which was to arrive yesterday from PHC. I live in Abuja. The dhl delivery was rescheduled last minute. I am thinking of missing my appointment and rescheduling for a later date... when the bank statement has been delivered. What do you think?
No one will check your bank statement unless you used U.S medical service.

I read in a post that someone was initially given the visa but later denied simply because Shengen had denied him visa
You have nothing to worry about, I doubt if that story is real, the moment the V.O collected your passport and give you the white paper the next thing is Administrative Processing, he won't bother checking the passport after collecting it from you for issuance of visa so I don't believe that story that the applicant was called back when he was almost at the door.

You have nothing to worry about, last last Administrative Processing. You have to be calm and collected at the interview.
God luck

P.S after reading your main reason for applying for U.S Visa, I think you applied for the wrong visa category.

This is one of the most informative Threads out there. I say this cos i learnt from it on how to go about my own application and eventually i was successful. I have been to USA and probably would have made the mistake of staying for 45 days since i could work from anywhere but for the Knowledge i got from here i spent less than 3 weeks even if i was stamped 6 month at the POE...
this is not a THREAD where lies and application padding is encouraged. If you started reading from part ONE you would learn a lot from it instead of brandishing some overtly childish Ignorance here. STOP BEING A NUISANCE, I wonder what your motive is but you sure sound JOBLESS to me Sir, Forgive me for saying this but both you and the fellow that wants to go for an obviously FAKE oil and gas conference need to calm down. THE VOs are not fools, they have the right to deny you VISA. I guess you guy should stop misleading newbees here as you are derailing the thread. Sir, moreso in my opinion you are one agent who might want to learn from here but your EGO standing in your way of asking the right questions. Good thing is that you dont need to ask anyone any question here, Just start from PArt one and You go dey alright las las

Thank you for this. But please remember that the Visa was given for Holiday to Newyork, not Texas. At the time the Visa was given, I didn't know I was going to attend the training in Texas. I have read about how people were turned back because of the change in destination from what was indicated in the Ds160 form. Does it matter? This will be my first time in the US.
Don't allow anyone to misled you, fly to New York spend a day or 2 before flying to Texas.

Disregard this o. Focus on your training that's the primary goal for the trip. The holiday should be days after the training.
You're wrong... stop passing false info, B1 is different from B1/B2

You have to use a Business visa for business purposes before using it for tourism purpose while a tourist visa (B1/B2) can be used for tourism as well as business visa but remember if it's not for Business, it's not a business visa.

Hello house! I had my interview yesterday in Abuja, but unfortunately I didn’t get it. Your thoughts were right. The 3months stay spoilt it I guess. So many families/individuals were given pink paper yesterday. I wasn’t scared though, I was hopeful
Here goes my transcript.

VO: Good morning
Me: Hello good morning (with a smiling face)
VO: can I have your passport?
Me: (hands passport over to her)
VO: have you traveled before?
Me: no, never had a reason to travel outside Nigeria
VO: So why are you going to Ohio?
Me: I’m going to visit fam; my sis, her hubby & their 2 kids. I want to go spend time with them
VO: I can see you want to stay for 3months
Me: no please, that was a mistake on my path while I was filling the form
VO: so how long do you intend to stay?
Me: I would like to stay for 4weeks
VO: ok, what do you do?
Me: I’m a business person, I import ... from China & Vietnam & sell here in Nigeria. I also sell... here...
(She listened carefully & was nodding)
VO: ok. Are you married?
Me: no, but I’m taking care of my dad here, he has ...(at this point I wasn’t audible)
VO: (nodded then brought out the pink paper & my passport) sorry you are not qualified blablabla

I felt bad, like my world became dark at that instant. But yeah! I’ve gotten the experience, I made silly mistakes while filling the form & I guess that affected me. Next time will be better.

Also, my dad reapplied through Dropbox, but he was told to reschedule for interview when he picked his passport yesterday at dhl office. So my question is this, is there a time frame to which he can reschedule or at anytime? Also if he goes for the interview, he needs someone there with him because he has hearing difficulty, so we’re thinking I apply again then book appointment the same day with my dad so that I can assist him.

I’ll get an employment letter from my uncle to show that I’m an employee in his company, that means I now have a job added to my business. What do you think guys?
Sorry about the denial....Don't bother applying for U.S Visa this year.
By the way have you been to China and Vietnam?

This is the truth...

1. Helping out doesn't make you an agent!
2. Some Rejections could be so grave it breaks the person down, it equally affects the person who had helped out.
3. One thing is probably certain with US visa, Rejection could come if what you are going for is still way ahead ... in a case where you will attend a function in September and you applied in February, a rejection is very possible.
4. They have a quota to give out each day, you may fall in the wrong time.
5. Most of the time when you get a rejection without any probable reason given or any thing visibly wrong situation anywhere, allow some time before you apply again, don't rush it .
6. It is not like getting a rejection is the end of the world, but having to go through the processes again is tiring for most people.
7. Most people on this thread react a little to harsh and compelling to issues that is raised by a member, we are having this issues together and the way out could be to make everyone feel good at some point, lets continue to be nice to each other around here.
Everything you needed is on this thread... especially asking for available date which can be easily check on the CGI site.
The truth is always harsh.
I will always take the harsh truth and get things right instead of allowing myself to be led on by false hope disguise in sweet words.
This forum is all about credibility and the moment it's gone even you will not come here.

Hnmmmmmmmm 4-3 months in U.S is too much, I believe you will have to be honest with the V.O about the reason why you stayed for that long in U.S, remember it's not their fault when you decided to apply for that program which I believe is not the reason why you apply for the visa in the first place.

Reading through some of the recent posts about denials, I thought I should share the experience of a distinguished Nigerian college Professor whom I know, that seemed somewhat puzzling. I have very little knowledge about how this visa thing works, but sometimes it seems the decisions can be somewhat arbitrary. This Professor went to Johns Hopkins University in the U.S. for his Masters and PHD degrees after getting a medical degree in Nigeria. He has traveled extensively around the world for conferences, sabbaticals and research purposes, the U.S. included. Last year, he received a CDC grant to co-author a procedures manual/book with several other U.S. researchers. This required that he be present in the U.S. for a few weeks over the summer at a host U.S. university. Visa was denied; according to him the VO was grumpy and somewhat discourteous. The university wrote a letter to their congressman explaining the circumstances and asking for help. Communication was sent to the consulate to look into the matter and give any consideration possible. The response was that they are required by law to presume all applicants have immigrant intent, and overcoming that presumption is the requirement of the applicant, and that the applicant was given a fair chance to prove himself during the interview and is welcome to reapply. He reapplied and was granted the visa, said all he was asked was for his passport and purpose of visit. I believe the consular officer has complete authority on issuance/rejection of visas, but it does appear there could be an element of subjectivity involved.
You're right about the mood/emotion of the V.O after all they're human, this is where the importance of your visit to U.S will be needed when you reapply.
You should be able to explain your grievances in a clear and concise manner.

I use to wonder why some of you think you know so much!

How about someone with over 4 rejections?
He/she also committed felony before they forgave him/her and gave them VISA?

65% of Approvals have been to the consulate at least Once!

Only 5% gets their Visa The very first time of application.

it is slavery when you die to get to another man's land, it is slavery of the highest form.

when this man reapplies and gets his Visa i will remind you.

People always sounding like some expert, when all they know is nothing.
No one is fighting you and as far as I know this thread has been around for more than 5 years, people come and go but the knowledge will remain, hopeful someone learn from it.
it's not by force you must visit U.S no be do or die and if you know the true meaning of slavery you won't compare it with denial at the embassy.
Good luck with him getting the visa, it add nothing to my life. This is a free forum but I tried to remove sentiment from whatever I post here.

How is refusing one visa slavery?

We are all aware that granting a visa to any country is not a right but a privilege. undecided

And about the man having all those countries he visited in the past...how were you able to know that and maybe there might have been some things he might have done in the past that it's only the visa officers who have such information at hand.

Like I've said and will continue to say that with every visa rejections or approvals we read about or observe there is always two sides to every reason or cause.

VOs "often" give rejections on Impulse , straight up sentiments!!!

Some rejections are not even worth a penny, Just mere perception.

Do you know what it takes to fill this forms and how much it cost for VISA? Sometimes the VO wont even ask you any question concerning anything about the form you filled and just go abstract... keeps your mind guessing.

A guy was given a white paper, he said thank you and was heading for the door when the VO ordered him back and she said she didn't see the shengen rejection at the end of the passport, and that was it , Rejected !!!
Maybe we should try to reduce the number of applicant, when they refuse Nigerians visa the next thing is ''How soon can I re-apply''

Something Happened today,....

A client was in Tears ,

65 years old Medical Doctor.. doing well, has a hospital

2 kids doing medicine in the US...

one graduated and he sent for his father to come for graduation,

Dad has been almost everywhere around the world ... China, Europe, ASIA but USA like 10yrs ago, he had no reason to be there.

At the interview today he was rejected, Man got angry and shouted at the VO, "why are you rejecting me"huh I have all documents but you are not even checking for anyhuh he said!

VO(SHE) stood up from her chair and removed the mic, left the man standing there, i can bet you he almost felt like ......

Very very unfair, the other man said, "isnt this slavery"huh You have everything but you still shed tears to give yourself some form of happiness.

I was not there with him, didnt see it happen, but the way he explained it, even God will be unhappy!
Unhappy about what?
Happiness is relative.

Hello house, I'm a newbie here and I've read thru part the post though long so I'm unable to read thru all. I need candid advice on this forum please. 2016 i and my family (hubby,2kids) got a US visa, our POE was Florida and we went in thru New York. We were deported and our visa canceled and was asked to re-aplly if we want to re-enter the US. We tried June 2017 but we were deneid and ever since then, we haven't tried. I really want to try this year though we haven't tried any other country cos of the damaged passport and we have gotten a new passport last December. Please i want to know which step to take cos i don't want to be refused again. The incident still affects my daughter till date. Thanks in anticipation for your advice
I'm sorry to hear about what happened but I think you've not painted the full picture of what happened in New York, I see no big deal in entering through New York except you have no onward flight to Florida or maybe you have suspicious stuffs in your baggage, suspicious messages on your phones and probably you've posted a lot of info on SM that you have no plan to return to Nigeria before taking this trip.

I'm not sure you will get a U.S visa in a long while and I wondered why you never tried our countries like E.U, UK and Australia.

Please forget about U.S for now.
