ABUJA (Reuters) - Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan received precautionary medical treatment in London on Thursday but his condition is not serious, a presidency statement said.
Jonathan was due to be at an investment meeting in London on Thursday but was not well enough to attend.
"President Jonathan has since been examined by competent medical practitioners. He has been advised to rest for a few days," the statement said.
"The Presidency wishes to assure all Nigerians that President Jonathan's condition is nothing serious and that the medical attention he has sought is only precautionary."

Angry leaders of the Academic Staff Union of Universities allegedly chased away the Governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Wada (retd.) from the emergency ward of the Lokoja General Hospital on Tuesday.

Wada had gone to the hospital to visit their injured colleague, Dr. Ngozi Ilo, and commiserate with them over the death of their former President, Prof. Festus Iyayi, in an accident involving his convoy and an ASUU vehicle on Tuesday.

The Chairman, University of Benin chapter of ASUU, Dr. Anthony Monye-Emina; and the Benin Zonal Coordinator, Dr. Sunny Iyalo, had minor injuries and were therefore not admitted into the hospital.

The ASUU leaders, including the National President, Dr. Biodun Ogunyemi; the Ibadan Zonal Coordinator, Dr. Nassir Adesola; the Chairman, Lagos State University chapter of the union, Dr. Adekunle Idris; Monye-Emina; Iyalo and lecturers from the Federal University Lokoja however sent the governor away from the hospital’s emergency ward.

Their grouse was Wada’s late response to the accident and the uncaring attitude he allegedly displayed towards the union leaders involved in the accident.

They also accused him of trying to make a political gain out of their misfortune.

Idris, who confirmed that Wada was chased out of the emergency ward, said, “We are surprised that a state governor could resort to telling lies because contrary to the claim by his spokesperson that he showed care towards our colleagues, he did not.

“Somebody that did not stop after his convoy killed our leader; somebody that did not come to the hospital until some minutes to 5pm(on Tuesday) after the accident that happened around 11am could not be said to be caring.

“That was why we chased him out of the emergency ward of the hospital and we also prevented him from seeing Prof. Iyayi’s corpse in the mortuary.

“We are not happy with the fact that he came very late to the hospital and the fact that when he came, his press crew attempted to take photograph and video record of Dr. Ilo, who is our national welfare secretary. We stopped them because that was the height of insensitivity.

“Somebody that could not provide us with an ambulance cannot be said to be caring. We had to call UNIBEN for an ambulance that took Ilo to the UNIBEN Teaching Hospital while our colleagues from the Federal University, Lokoja, with the assistance of the vice-chancellor, gave us the ambulance that was used to convey the remains of Prof. Iyayi to Benin.”

Idris added that though Wada left the hospital “like a gentleman,” some of his overzealous security aides tried to be naughty.

He said, “Some of the policemen that followed him to the hospital wanted to be naughty but we lectured them. The hospital workers and the residents of Lokoja who witnessed how we chased the governor away were happy.”

Also, Adesola expressed dismay at the efforts made by the governor to rewrite the incident.

He said, “It was actually the last of the governor’s convoy that veered off the road and ran into a vehicle that was conveying Iyayi and others.

“When the governor’s convoy came with noise and harassment, everyone on the road moved to the side of the road for them to pass but unfortunately, the governor’s aide has told the world that an ASUU vehicle was avoiding a trailer and ran into their escort vehicle.

“What manner of reckless lying is that? The front of the ASUU bus remains intact except for the windscreen that broke. Iyayi was sitting at the back of the bus and the escort van ran into it.

The most annoying part is that the incident occurred around 11am and the governor did not even visit the hospital until around 5pm.

“He came with a large number of pressmen and security aides and was attempting to make some political capital out of our misfortune.

“We actually had to chase him away from the emergency ward where our welfare secretary was still receiving treatment .”

But Jacob Edi, the Special Adviser, Media and Strategy to Wada, claimed that the ASUU leaders did not chase his boss away from the hospital.

Edi, who in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents, insisted that Wada was not indifferent to the plight of the accident victims, however, stated that the union officials were not friendly.

He said,”When the governor went to the hospital, the ASUU people had a kind of adverse reaction to the governor. But they did not chase away the governor. Nobody chased away anybody.”

The governor’s spokesman added that the state government would not want to be involved in controversy over the death of the former ASUU president.

He stated that Wada was pained by the accident and had been sympathising with the bereaved families and the survivors.

It was however not only the ASUU leaders that lambasted the governor over the accident, the Nigeria Labour Congress, a former President of the Trade Union Congress, Mr. Peter Esele and an ex-Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Mr. Abubakar Tsav, also did.

They described Wada’s convoy as reckless and demanded the prosecution of the driver of the escort vehicle that caused the accident on the Lokoja-Abuja Road.

The NLC, in a statement in Abuja by its National President, Mr. Abdulwahed Omar, described the death of Iyayi as avoidable.

It also blamed the Federal Government for its neglect of the road.

The NLC said its position was that the federal and Kogi State governments were responsible for Iyayi’s death.

It said that 10 years after the contract for the rehabilation of the Lokoja-Abuja Road was awarded, it had been turned to a death trap.

The NLC said, “Iyayi’s death leaves a sour taste in the mouth and it is totally avoidable. It is blameable, lawlessness/impunity on the part of the Kogi State governor, who is fast acquiring for himself an accident-prone reputation.

The congress therefore advised “siren-blowing and terror-dealing convoys” to be conscious of other road users.

It called on the Federal Roads Safety Corps and the Nigeria Police to ensure that those behind the accident were brought to justice.

Esele and Tsav urged the relevant authorities to ensure that the convoy driver involved in the accident was prosecuted.

They spoke in different telephone interviews with our correspondents.

According to them, Wada has a responsibility to caution his drivers as his convoy has become reputed for recklessness.

Esele recalled that the convoy of the governor was involved in an accident which resulted in the death of Wada’s Aide de Camp and in which Wada was also injured.

Tsav, who described the death of the former ASUU leader as unfortunate, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to meet the demands of ASUU.

This, he said, would be in appreciation of the fact that Iyayi died while contributing to the development of university education in the country.

Tsav said that accidents occurred in Kogi State not because the roads in Kogi were the worst but because the drivers in the governor’s convoy were not cautious.

He said that the roads were not meant only for the political office holders but for all Nigerians.

He said, “The convoy of Wada is known for being reckless; this is not the first time this is happening. It does not mean that the worst roads are in Kogi State.

“I want to appeal to him to caution his drivers, they are reckless, he should caution them to be cautious on the roads, the roads belong to every Nigerian.”

A Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, on Wednesday sentenced a former Chairman of Davi Local Government Area, Mr. Enesi Jimoh, to six months in prison without an option of fine. Justice I. E Ekwo convicted the politician after finding him guilty of converting N7m belonging to the council to personal use while in office.

The money was meant for the provision of borehole for communities in the council area.

Enesi was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, alongside a former Commissioner for Agriculture of the state, Samuel Ojo, in March 31,2010.

However, Ojo was discharged by the court after a no-case submission was filed by the defence counsel, H.O Agumbiodun in June 2012.

One of the charges against Jimoh read, “That you Enesi Jimoh Suleman, while serving as executive Chairman of Davi Local Government Area, converted N7m, property of Davi Local Government Area, concealing its illicit origin and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 14 of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act 2004 and also punishable under section 14 of same Act.”

The United States on Wednesday blacklisted Nigeria's radical Islamist Boko Haram network and an offshoot known as Ansaru as terror groups, bowing to months of pressure to move against the militants.
"These designations are an important and appropriate step, but only one tool in what must be a comprehensive approach by the Nigerian government to counter these groups ... to help root out violent extremism," the State Department said in a statement.
The Islamist insurgency by the shadowy group has claimed thousands of lives since 2009 mainly in northeast and central Nigeria and caused international concern over its potential to spread across porous borders into other nearby safe havens.
In July, the State Department's Rewards for Justice program offered a $7 million reward for information leading to the arrest of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, but raised eyebrows by stopping short of designating the group as a foreign terrorist organization.
"In the last several years, Boko Haram and Ansaru have been responsible for thousands of deaths in northeast and central Nigeria, including dozens of attacks on churches and mosques, targeted killings of civilians, and the 2011 suicide bombing of the United Nations building in Abuja that killed 21 people and injured dozens more," White House homeland security advisor Lisa Monaco said in a statement.
"By cutting these terrorist organizations off from US financial institutions and enabling banks to freeze assets held in the United States, these designations demonstrate our strong support for Nigeria?s fight against terrorism and its efforts to address security challenges in the north."
US officials accuse Boko Haram of links to Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, while Ansaru is a splinter faction that earlier this year kidnapped and executed seven foreign construction workers.
Emergency rule in the northeast has largely pushed Boko Haram fighters from urban areas into the countryside over the last six months, but attacks have continued unabated.
The three Nigerian states under special measures -- Yobe, Borno and Adamawa -- share frontiers with Niger, Chad and Cameroon and the military has said that insurgents have struck in Nigeria, then fled across the porous borders.
"All of our assistance to Nigeria stresses the importance of protecting civilians and ensuring that human rights are respected. That assistance and these designations demonstrate US support for the Nigerian people?s fight against Boko Haram and Ansaru," the State Department said.
Both groups were officially designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations which will bar any Americans from assisting them as well as freezing all their assets in the United States.
President Barack Obama met Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan in September and urged him "to pursue a comprehensive counterterrorism approach that uses law enforcement tools effectively, creates economic opportunity, and ensures that human rights are protected and respected," Monaco said.

Ansaru has focused attacks on Nigerian military and Western targets, kidnapping several foreigners living and working in the country.
In November 2012, it raided a police station in Abuja, killing Nigerian police officers and freeing detained terrorists from prison, the State Department said.
Representative Ed Royce, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, welcomed the move saying the United States had "a security interest" in a stable Nigeria.
"Once believed to be strictly local, its fighters are increasingly linking up with other al-Qaeda linked groups in the region," Royce said in a statement.

A man has been found guilty of murdering his partner's three-year-old nephew after the child wet the bed they were sharing.
Ben Igbinedion, 44, inflicted "catastrophic" injuries upon Daniel Evbuomwan that were so severe they were likened to those caused by a car crash.
Igbinedion, of Bromley, south London, had put Daniel back to sleep in a different bed but when family members tried to wake him in the morning he did not respond.
The youngster suffered multiple injuries to his ribs and multiple fractures to his pelvis.
They were described by Professor Anthony Risdon, who carried out a post-mortem examination as "among the most severe he had seen".
Daniel had been living with his grandmother Rosemary since earlier this year and was in normal physical health but all that dramatically changed when he went to stay with Igbinedion and his family in March, the court heard.
Daniel's grandmother had wanted to go shopping and to church so it was decided he should stay with his aunt Sandra Okundaye, a nurse, and her partner Igbinedion, jurors were told.
Ms Okundaye was away working that night and Igbinedion was left in charge of looking after Daniel and his three children, the trial heard.
At bedtime, Igbinedion stated that Daniel and his youngest son should sleep in his room, while the other children slept in their own room, it was claimed.
In the early hours of the morning on March 2, one of the children was woken by Igbinedion telling off Daniel for wetting the bed, the court heard.
Giving his own evidence, Igbinedion told the court that he treated the boy as if he was his own son.
Igbinedion claimed he woke Daniel up at 5.30am to use the toilet, before returning the boy to the children's bedroom and turning the light off.
He accepted the youngster had been well during the day but could not explain what happened.
Daniel's cousins had tried to wake the boy but after several attempts he slumped from the bed to the floor.
He was taken to University Hospital in Lewisham, south east London, where he was pronounced dead at 11.25am.
Igbinedion, who denied murder but was convicted at the Old Bailey, is due to be sentenced on November 27.

A CHRISTIAN church has surprised its flock by becoming the first in the UK to welcome MUSLIMS.
St John’s Episcopal Church in Aberdeen now opens its doors to hundreds of Islam worshippers five times a day, as their own mosque was so small they had been forced to pray outside.
Although not unheard of in America, it is thought to be the first time this has ever happened in the UK.
A spokesman for the Muslim Council of Britain said: “I’ve never heard of this before, of any other case where active churches are also used as mosques.”

Rev Isaac Poobalan, 50, struck the deal with his opposite number, Chief Imam Ahmed Megharbi when he saw him conducting prayers in the rain outside.
Rev Poobalan said: “Praying is never wrong. My job is to encourage people to pray.
“The mosque was so full at times, there would be people outside in the wind and rain praying.
“I knew I couldn’t just let this happen — because I would be abandoning what the Bible teaches us about how we should treat our neighbours.
“They took us up on the offer and it has been a positive relationship.”

The Bishop of Aberdeen and Orkney — The Right Rev Dr Robert Gillies — went even further, saying he believes they could cause “shock waves around the world”.
He said: “It would be good to think we can change the world.

HOLY SEE – In a shocking press conference Sunday, Pope Benedict XVI revealed to the world that he will be stepping down from the Catholic Church’s highest office. “Through prayer and reflection over the past years,” the world’s holiest man began, “I’ve realized that Allah is the one true God.”
Amid clattering camera shutters and roaring reporters, Pope Benedict patiently answered questions, citing traditional Muslim folklore as well as passages from the Qur’an to explain his decision. His session was interrupted only once, when he swiveled South-East to face Mecca, stooped to the ground, and recited the Asr, one of the five daily prayers central to Muslim belief.
The startling reversal comes as a shock to many familiar with the Pope’s policies on Islam. “Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached,” the Bishop of the Vatican famously said of Islam in his 2006 lecture Faith, Reason and the University—Memories and Reflections.
When asked about the quote, Pope Benedict sighed with good-humored remorse and chuckled quietly to himself: “Yeah I’ve regretted that for some time. But I was young and naïve… I see things much clearer now. Besides, I’ve always kinda liked the thought of having a sword. The Cardinals were a real pain on that one.”
When asked whether he would be reverting to his born name, Pope Benedict enthusiastically interjected. “I’ve decided to change my name to Sajjad Sayyid Ratzinger,” His Ex-Holiness explained. “I’m keeping my surname purely for logistical reasons, so my Facebook friends and Twitter followers won’t be confused.”
His transition hasn’t been without opposition. Hours after the press conference, a special Fox and Friends segment aired on FOXNEWS, featuring a picture of the Pope photoshopped to include stereotypical Islāmic features, including: a turban in place of his mitre, darkened complexion, black hair, and Arabic letters spelling out an endorsement of Barack Hussein Obama tattooed across his chest. Beneath the picture, the panel discussed the possible involvement of Pope Benedict XVI, 85, in 9/11. The segment’s title, “The Holy Heathen,” emblazoned the lower left corner of the screen.
This morning, newspapers nationwide featured an editorial by Bill O’Reilly detailing the parallels between the Pope’s “betrayal of God-loving Christians everywhere” with the “betrayal of the American people and the Constitution by Benedict Arnold, his liberal agenda, and his radical left-wing entourage.”

THE private who gave US military secrets to WikiLeaks is facing up to 20 years in jail after pleading guilty ahead of a court martial.
Bradley Manning, 25, said he spilled the secrets to expose the American military’s “bloodlust” in Iraq and Afghanistan.
He compared the actions of US soldiers to “a child torturing ants with a magnifying glass”.
Manning admitted he thought the classified material would “embarrass” his country.
But he insisted he did not think it jeopardised US lives by compromising national security.
His guilty pleas at Fort Meade, Maryland, were to ten of 22 charges he faces over America’s biggest secrets leak ever.
Manning, who has been in custody for 1,000 days, denies the most serious — aiding the enemy — which carries a life sentence.

Hello? I just clocked 23 some weeks back and only for mum to slap me 2days back because i didnt make her coffee hot enough to her satisfaction. Wtf?
My mum loves slapping me around and this annoys me. Not that she doesnt love me because she still buys me stuffs and takes me out and for the fact that am the only issue, well...you know the rest but this case of slappings, i dont like. I've told her several times and after moments of apologies tendered from her, she's doing it the next minute
