But, because of the fact that they are very hardworking, ambitious, and not afraid to live anywhere, or take up any task, they tend to be resented by their less ambitious and successful neighbors or hosts. Why can't this person just talk about the Igbos without trying to belittle other tribes.. So the people that host Igbos are less ambitious and successful people? What an insult on people from all states and communities where Igbos migrated to. |
MissMeiya:You're very correct. Most eligible voters will be disenfranchised because of the way the PVC issue was managed. Many people around me only have the temporary laminated one. I doubt if that would suffice for the election. Nigerians are really hungry for change and the kind of passion people display this time around to effect this change with their votes is unprecedented, compared with previous elections where there's this I don't care attitude. Sadly many of such people will be disenfranchised come 14th of next month, should this election go as planned. Whether this is intentional from INEC with the collusion of some other persons or not, that we can't tell;but surely this leaves much to be desired for us as a country. |
Brimmie:You can say that again my brother. This time around Wike's Jesus of Otuoke PEJ won't be able to save him lol. cc: Barcanista, Omenka |

Governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside, has received the endorsement of the Ikwerre Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers in Isiokpo, the spiritual and traditional headquarters of the Ikwerre ethnic nationality. The Council equally declared Dr. Peterside the sole governorship candidate for the Ikwerre nationality for the February 28 election. The Council comprises First Class and all Government-recognised traditional rulers in the four Ikwerre local government areas in Rivers State which comprise Obio/Akpor, Port Harcourt City, Emohua and Ikwerre. The Council, which declared that its endorsement of Dr. Peterside, was out of its resolve to uphold equity and justice by ensuring that the riverine section of the state produced the next governor, emphasised that by its action, no other governorship candidate would receive its endorsement. The paramount rulers enjoined all Ikwerre sons and daughters to support Dr. Peterside come February, 28. While addressing the Council and other Ikwerre stakeholders, Dr. Peterside, who was received by Eze Blessing Wagor, JP, Nye Weli Isiokpo, other members of the Council and a mammoth crowd of APC supporters, underscored the importance of Rivers people making the right and necessary decision in choosing the next governor for the state. “Your Majesty, we are about to make another decision as to who will be the governor of Rivers State. Ikwere as an ethnic nationality has a very critical role to play at this point in time in the life of Rivers State. As custodians of Ikwere culture, Ikwerre values, at a time of national morale crisis, we expect the custodians of our culture and value system as traditional rulers and fathers to lend their voices of reason so that the people can take the right path. Speaking further, Dr. Peterside stressed the need for the Ikwerre to maintain their dignity in the face of politi cians ready to buy people’s conscience. In response, Eze Iriebe, who spoke through the Vice Chairman and traditional ruler of Akpor kingdom, Eze A.A Orlu Oriebe, Nye Weli Akpor kingdom, said, “His Excellency-in-waiting, on behalf of Ikwerre traditional rulers, we welcome you and your entourage to the ancient town of Isiokpo, the ancient town of Ikwerre tradition. The thing we are doing here today has a lot to tell. One, you are the only person (governorship candidate) who saw the need to visit the Traditional Council, and that you cannot go out there to tell our people anything without paying homage. When Christ was born, the wise men visited Him and that is what you have done today. “What the Supreme Council of Ikwerre Traditional Rul ers requires from every son and daughter of Ikwerre here present and those at home, is that we want this message to reach all nooks and crannies of Ikwerre. When the tenure of our son, our great son, The Right Honourable Chibuike Amaechi was about to expire, the Supreme Council asked him questions. Today, that question has been answered. And what was that question? The question was, “Your Excellency, with the level you have taken Rivers State to, after your tenure, will these things still be maintained? With all the security challenges we have been facing, after your exit, what will be the fate of Rivers people? Today we want to show that the Ikwerre man is not a greedy person. If because of the population of Ikwerre …; if we counted on population, I don’t think our son would be President today. But because Nigerians agreed that power must shift, today our son from Bayelsa is President. If we depended on the population of Bayelsa, a man from Otuoke cannot stand election (as President) and win. But because it was agreed that power should shift to the minority as the minority also has something to offer, power shifted. “Now coming to Rivers State, the Ikwerre would not say because of their population no other ethnic group should have a say.” Addressing Dr. Peterside, Eze Iriebe enjoined him to remain steadfast and refuse attempts to distract him. “Having said that, we have seen that His Excellency (Chibuike Amaechi) has found you worthy to maintain the excellent standard Rivers State is known for today. And we urge you not to disappoint the people of Rivers State. Don’t be distracted by all intimidations. We, members of the Ikwerre Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers at this moment endorse you, Dakuku Peterside, and declare that all sons and daughters of Ikwerre nationality, the four local governments that make up Ikwerre nationality – Port Harcourt, Obio/Akpor, Emohua and Ikwerre – to rally round you. Having said that, on behalf of the Supreme Council, I am presenting him to the people. Eze Wagor, accompanied by Eze Iriebe, held up Dr. Pe terside’s hands to the cheers of the mammoth crowd. They later handed him over to Chief Samson Agbaru, a political leader in Ikwerre land and one-time Secretary to Rivers State Government. Aside top APC chieftains that included Hon. Ezemonye Ezekiel-Amadi and Chief Chidi Wihioka, about 15 tra ditional rulers, all members of the Supreme Traditional Rulers Council, were present at the event. Background: It is undoubtedly a fact that the Nigerian economy has experienced monumental growth from 1999 to date. A combination of far sighted policies such as the telecommunications revolution, privatization policies, banking consolidation, strict monetary policy, relatively prudent fiscal policy (excluding the last 4 years), Agricultural reforms, FDI and pensions reforms have been one of the key drivers of Nigeria’s growth over the last 15 years. Nigeria was no doubt aided by a booming world economy in the early 2000’s and China’s voracious appetite for raw materials (such as oil). Over 80% of Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings come from the sale of oil despite oil accounting for less than 15% of Nigeria’s rebased GDP. Changing factors Over the last 3-4 years, it has been clear to most economic followers that dangers were hovering. The U.S over the last three years has been undergoing a shale oil revolution of sorts. The fracking method of extracting oil within the U.S has brought to reality the oft stated U.S need to be energy independent. That has now been achieved, at least, in the short to medium term. With this feat, Nigeria has lost its primary export market. Last year July, the US imported no oil from Nigeria. Nigeria has thus lost a major buyer and gained a major competitor in the oil sector. The U.S will be the largest oil exporter in the world within the next 2-3 years. Allied with the loss of the U.S market, Nigeria had been aware of a number of countries (especially African countries) that have recently become oil exporting countries. Ghana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Mozambique. Brazil itself had recently discovered huge oil deposits. One thing any discerning economist should have been aware of over the last 3 years is that there will be a significant increase in the supply of oil on the world market. Additionally, since 2008 (caused primarily by the Lehman induced crisis) the U.S, Europe, Brazil, and Asia (especially China) have been battling (to differing degrees) economic slowdown within their respective home economies. The twin factors of markedly increased supply of oil and the decline in demand for oil from the economies that had hitherto been the drivers of demand for oil had made it very clear to the discerning that the high price of oil was due for an imminent correction. With that imminent correction would come increased pressure on Nigeria’s revenue base. It is Iweala’s job to see the advancing adverse headwinds and to advice the President of counter measures to be taken before the dangers become a reality. Fiscal Incompetence Against the background of the adverse supply and demand headwinds discernable over the last 3-4 years, Nigeria’s chief economic oversight official had been making a case for increased government borrowing and has overseen the significant increase in government debt. Miss Iweala has been arguing that Nigeria’s debt to GDP ratio is low when compared to other countries. No doubt, that view has influenced her acquiescence with the increased borrowing Nigeria has embarked upon in recent years. What she failed to take into account is that the GDP does not yield to the government actual revenue needed to service such debt. Oil sales accounts for over 80% of government income despite accounting for less than 15% of Nigeria’s GDP. The combination of the fall of oil price, the disappearance of our major exporting markets (due to the shale oil revolution) and the competitive disadvantage due to our geographical location in replacing the U.S market with the Asian market has meant that Nigeria is suffering from lower revenues right across the board. India recently opted to buy more of Nigeria’s oil because of sanctions against Iran. Once that is lifted, Nigeria stands to lose India as a major export market because it would be cheaper for it to get supplies from Iran (which is nearer to it and the consequence of paying less transportation costs). With lower revenues, Nigeria is now spending over 20% of its diminished revenues on servicing its current debt levels. Nigeria had failed (over the last 3-4 years) to stop the expansion of the Nigerian budget spending and had been reducing government revenues by providing questionable waivers for (x) the importation of bullet proof cars and (y)cars used for a sporting event in a particular state of the country (amongst others). These are just some of the questionable policy oversights overseen by the coordinating minister of the economy. Now that Nigeria is actually in the throes of a major economic downturn, the coordinating minister for the economy has now embarked on a belated measure of adding taxes and reducing government spending. What the minister has failed to realize is the essential counter role being undertaken by the CBN over the last 15 years. Despite the ethnically induced selection of the current CBN governor over the head of the more experienced monetary expert (Sarah Alade), the CBN over the last 15 years have stabilized the Nigeria economy in times when the FG had been running budget deficits. Now the FG is adding its economically constricting fiscal policies with the economically constricting monetary policies of the CBN.There can be only one outcome. The Nigerian economy (which is currently growing at over 7% a year) is going to come to a sharp halt. No economy can survive if both the public and private sector seizes up. The CBN policies of increasing interest rates and reducing monetary supply will drive up the costs of business and investments and reduce employment in the private sector. The FG led fiscal policies will do the same for the public sector. It would have been advisable for the government to cut back spending whilst the CBN allows the private sector sufficient breathing space to continue to grow and hopefully absorb some of the people laid off from the public sector. Interest rates should be lowered even if it means allowing the Naira to fall further. The fall in the Naira is the lesser of the two evils. The inflationary pressure that comes with the fall in the Naira will be ameliorated by the reduced inflationary pressure that will come with the significant fall in government spending due to reduced FG revenues. Conclusion There is no doubt that the Nigerian economy has been poorly managed to a small degree since late 2007 and to a massive degree since 2011. The responsibility of a President is that he/she has the intelligence to be able to ask discerning questions of the various experts charged with the responsibility of managing the different sectors of government. The president is either not asking enough questions of Iweala or has abdicated overall responsibility for the economy to his coordinating minister for the economy. In either case, Nigeria is suffering for that lack of oversight. A PH.D is of no use if it means a person is unable to ask the right questions even if the area concerned is outside ones area of specialization. That, after all, was one of the strong points of OBJ. Iweala, under OBJ, was well managed. When her personal ambition and massive ego influenced her need to undermine Nenadi Usman (the then current finance minister) by negotiating directly with Nigeria’s creditors (whilst foreign minister) without the knowledge of the finance minister, OBJ promptly removed her as head of the economic team. Jonathan bears ultimate responsibility for the errors of Iweala. In a corporate setting, she would have been fired for incompetence. In Nigeria, she will probably be rehired (if he wins in February) as the coordinating acting President for government policy and the economy. We all know Iweala loves the acquisition of job titles!! The All Progressive Grand Alliance says it cannot throw its weight behind President Goodluck Jonathan as it is very likely that the candidate of the All progressives Congress, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), will emerge the winner of the presidential election next month. The Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of APGA, Mr. Campbell Umeh-Nzekwe, who is also a special adviser to the national chairman of the party, said this during an interview with our correspondent, on Sunday. Umeh-Nzekwe said Jonathan’s problem was compounded by the fact that the motion to adopt him as the consensus candidate of the Igbo for the 2015 presidential election failed at the Ime-Obi (inner caucus) meeting of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on Saturday, in Enugu. He added that the sermon of renowned Enugu-based Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, that Jonathan had failed and should step down seemed to have sent shockwaves across the South-East. He said the party was sure that Jonathan would not win votes in the North. He said, “The game has changed. As it is, Jonathan has no chance of winning. Buhari seems to have taken over. The PDP has collapsed in the North if you care to know. All those who are running to Aso Rock and making promises to the President are just deceiving him.” When asked if APGA would be supporting Buhari next month, Umeh-Nzekwe said he could not say for sure. He said, “Jonathan is a sitting President with incumbency factor in his favour but Buhari has the masses and a cult following in the North. In 2011, Buhari won 12 million votes in the North with his rag-tag party, the Congress for Progressive Change, without a single governor or senator to campaign for him. “Today, his party, the APC, has 14 governors, 43 senators and 176 Reps as well as 625 House of Assembly members. Also, the APC has dominant control of the North-West with a total number of 18.4 million voters and North-East with 10.2 million while South-West has 13.4 million voters. “ The PDP has dominant control of the North-Central and Abuja with 10.4 million voters while the South-South has 8.5 million and South-East has 7.2 million votes. “However, no zone has achieved 50 per cent of votes cast but northern voters are more committed and trustworthy than those in the South. “Also, look at Jonathan’s campaign team. He has Col. Ahmadu Ali (retd.) as his Director General and Peter Obi as the deputy while Buhari has Governor Rotimi Amaechi and Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora as director general and deputy respectively. It is time for Ndi Igbo to review their strategy.” Source: www.punchng.com/politics/apga-favours-buhari-to-emerge-as-president/ |
laremsworldwide:What does the Holy Quaran say about the coming back of Jesus. To come back and do what exactly? Please educate me on this. Seems there are more similarities in the two religions than I initially thought. |
imas:Jesus Christ admonished the paying of tithes when he was criticising the scribes and pharisees. Check Matthew 23:23 |
Aksonman:So you've suddenly become a prophet to interpret a spiritual exercise to a Man of God with many years of experience in God's vineyard? So Buhari, Tinubu and Osinbajo are sinners that should be punished by mother nature while GEJ is the only Saint that has to be rewarded with an additional term in office. Wonders truly shall never end. You people never fail to amaze someone here on nairaland. |
egift:I can't believe people will still come on here and scream GEJ till 2019 when it's obvious he's an epitome of cluelessness. He has such diarrhoea of the mouth in such way that anytime he opens his mouth to speak without reading from what Abati or Okupe wrote for him, he goofs big time. He's talking about putting institutions in place to fight corruption and strengthening them. His predecessor OBJ has already done that by creating institutions like EFCC and ICPC;but what this clueless goon did was to weaken them and make them almost non-existent choosing instead to chase petty yahoo yahoo boys. The DSS under his watch became negotiator for NUPENG workers. What an anomaly!!We can't afford to allow this continue any longer in this country just because he happens to come from a certain region and religion. Nigerians think please. The power is in your thumbs come February 14. |
BokoHaramm:Werey alasho ![]() |
petrov10:But why would you not want to vote an Igbo man there. Don't you feel Igbos would gain more with an Igbo man at the helm of affairs than Agbaje? |
Doortun:At least she's an employer of labour for numerous Nigerians through her oil firm. That way she's adding to the Nigerian economy in a way. Her employees wouldn't agree with your statement that she hasn't added value to lives. In what ways have Oprah added value to the life of any Nigerian rather than talk ill of the country at every little opportunity she has. |
Justcash:Fair play to you Justcash for not going all emotional and throwing tantrums but rather articulating your points calmly and respectably. Even though I don't share your sentiments, I'll give it to you. Kudos. @all we need to move past all this animosity and carry on living harmoniously as we've always done. Our destinies have been bound together by providence. One people, Great Nation.. We'll get to the promised land someday. If we stand together as one, we cannot be shaken. There's strength in our diversity. It's well. |
DopeAngel:I never knew God has given u the mandate to decide who goes to heaven or hell, Mr. Holy angel |
ijebu4u:The hypocrisy on this thread stinks to high heavens. If the said girl is a dedicated Christian or virgin and you can vouch for that, then somehow it's understandable but if it's just a regular funky girl saying that, then you've got to watch it cos obviously someone out there is helping her shine the Congo and she's satisfied cos that person is doing a very good job on her and wouldn't want u stressing her further in that regard. Does she expect you to double date or sleep around when the hormones are getting the better of you? I understand the ladies all castigating the OP cos they are obviously pretentious and know it but what I can't fathom is guys towing the same lane just to acquire cheap nairaland likes when in reality they'd never agree to such arrangements. |
MuguliciousMUGU:You're a real mugu as your name suggests lol |
Ngwakwe:Even if he comes himself to announce it on all TV and radio stations in the country, people like you will call it publicity stunt and not change your mindset. There really is no need for him wasting his previous time. |
anonimi:He was not been daft but making us know that he'd stick by the constitution and not what your oga at the top is doing by allocating such huge sum to a non-existent office, simply meaning he is redefining the constitution by creating an artificial office to squander the wealth of the nation. And this is the sort of person your likes come here to promote daily as the best thing since sliced bread and should be re-elected. |
donmalcolm21:Mumu, who are the majority in the house of Reps?.. APC or PDP? so it's only Northerners that are present in the HOR.. No Yorubas, Igbos, Ibibios and the likes? Then again I don't expect you TANoids to reason properly. |
Sharksblow:A thread about a Governor not been able to pay salaries which is also commonplace with governors from other regions was hijacked and turned into a SW bashing thread. It's really nauseating to see the kind of hatred this people have for Yorubas and it's very dangerous living amongst people that detest you with passion and not know it. Nairaland has really been an eye opener for me in this regard. I never knew the hatred has reached this irreparable proportion until I joined nairaland. They think they have the monopoly of bashing other tribes. Anyways people like me are here to put them in their place. I've taken it upon myself. |
WhiteTechnology:It's on record that 22 States of the federation are owing salaries. Are all those South West States? I know your inane bigotry and hate for Yorubas won't let u reason properly. I'm done with you. You ain't worth my sweat. |
WhiteTechnology:See who's talking about illiteracy. Not beating my chest, but if you come close to my academic attainments, you'll be continually celebrated in your community everyday . Are the Chinese coming here to do such meagre jobs like pushing barrows selling pegs and earpiece. Even the people of SS that have the substantial crude oil production in the country do not go about beating their chest and making spiteful comments at Yorubas unlike you foolish attachees with your minute oil production capacities. Btw I'm from the South West and come from an oil producing community here. **You idiotic lots see every thread as an opportunity to make hateful comments at Yorubas who have been nothing but good, accommodating and kind hosts to a large chunk of you ungrateful and insatiable fools. |
WhiteTechnology:Yet your people leave their heavens in Abia, Ebonyi and the likes to push wheel barrows selling pegs and earpiece in this supposed impoverished region. The stupidity of you people cannot be quantified. |
shadrach77:You're the silly one here and don't ever quote me if you've not been taught manners from wherever you come from. It's African player of the year 2014, meaning the whole year and not last season that ended in May, which was not even up to half of the year. Btw all the achievements of Yaya Toure I itemised where even obtained last season going by your logic. Next time think with your brain and not your anus whenever you want to reply me. |
mistabiola:People like him can openly defend the devil. States are owing workers salaries and donating to a gluttonous corrupt president and he's all smiles when his subjects don't even know what to eat for Christmas. Yet people want this kind of insensitive person to continue piloting the affairs of this country simply because he's from their region even though they're on empty stomachs. |
Yustash001:No African player seems to be on the same level as Yaya Toure for now. It's not a joke to be vice-captain of a star-studded team like Man City, winning both the EPL and Capital One cup scoring the decisive goal against Sunderland, and was highest goal scorer for Man city. A midfielder for that matter. Even contested closely with Suarez for EPL player of the season. Only if they had presented Enyeama last year when we won the AFCON instead of Mikel, he'd have stood a chance. Dortmund have been so poor this season that they are currently at the bottom of Bundesliga table, so Aubemayang is out of it. So it's Yaya Toure all the way. Quite unfortunate tho but you can't fault the guy's talent. |
ednut1:She go give herself belle ni, abi u wan turn her to Virgin Mary Part2...Holy Ghost conception tins ![]() |
BlackSEER:So says the man who has 70 million votes to himself only. You only have one vote, so speak for yourself. |
GenBuhari:There's a very thin line between sanity and insanity. Yaba Left needs your attention please. How did you escape? |
