Ok.
What is ur motivation of learning how to code.
Imagine for a minute you've acquired the programming skill, what did you imagine yourself doing with the skill ?? data analysis, web development, embedded systems, scientific computing, mobile app development, etc.
Having a strong why will help you figure out alot of stuff quickly and help you in the long run. |

KushLyon: I wouldn't call it effortless per se, When i started with html and css, i was having problem remembering syntaxes (especially css) and also couldn't fully understand how and why some things work the way they do. Then some senior developers pointed out that's it's ok to forget syntaxes and it's actually common, you just have to make Google your friend. As long as you know what you want to do and the general concept of it, you can just google it and get how to do it. But you wouldn't even have the problem of remembering syntaxes if you don't work on projects, hence the need for that.
So I kept working on projects, there are a couple of websites that give out coding challenges so I did that and completed most of those challenges, I noticed the more challenges I completed, the lesser the occurrence of me visiting google for a forgotten syntax.
Now I'm learning JavaScript and it has been fun all the while with a couple of hiccups here and there, but the struggle continues Good for you, as long as you are making good progress. enjoy it. |

KushLyon: Something like that. At first i didn't know there were different fields under programming and i just thought learning one language will teach you everything about programming from top to bottom, it was later i discovered there are different fields (web, app, data science, machine learning and so on) and also different tools that is well suited for each of those fields. Lol, howzit now. Effortless right ?? |
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Share Your Remote Job/ Hustle by shegzhkn: 2:16pm On Aug 06, 2021 |
KushLyon: Exactly, I didn't have a concrete plan when i started and i was just "testing the waters" when i picked python and i just flowed with it. Then i saw a post on nairaland by tensazangetsu20 detailing the path to be taken by someone new to programming. That was how i got the roadmap to follow and was properly introduced into web development
I just remebered i came across programming a couple of years back and i dived head-first into C++ No basic knowledge or anything, just dived into it and kept on swimming against the current until i gave up. It was really brutal Lol. So it safe to say you knew what you wanted to do but don't know how, right ?? @ bolded is hilarious - no proper orientation i guess. |

KushLyon: I'm still on a learning path and i'm at javascript at the moment, i'm taking it slow and steady. I got into programming 5 months ago starting with python (wrong move on my part) but i left it after some advice i got on nairaland, then i went back to the basics with html and css, now javascript
P.S: I'm in the web development field K, let me guess - you don't know what you wanted to do (concrete plan) before learning Python or how did you end up learning it & i also hope you've figure out ur roadmap now |
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Share Your Remote Job/ Hustle by shegzhkn: 1:21pm On Aug 06, 2021 |
KushLyon: Many people have this same set of problems including me. I'm not sure i'm the right person to give you an advice, seeing as i don't use python (i learnt it for a bit then ditched it to follow another path) but you can overcome this problem by working on personal projects. The more projects you do, the more efficient you become and you will spend less time completing a project as time goes on. You seem to be on the right path, just keep working on projects to sharpen your skills, with time you won't be having issues like this So what do you work with now, i mean your toolkit and what problems are u solving?? |

Education › Re: Please I Need Your Help/advice. by shegzhkn: 1:53pm On Aug 05, 2021 |
stanliwise: The reality of things is that going for computer science so you could easily learn how to program is just almost same story as a person in engineering or any courses. Computer science is way larger than programming and many courses you do especially in your first two years are majorly pure mathematics and basic programming. The information overload and time to read maths theory wouldn’t give ample of time to learn how to code properly.
Meanwhile the next two years is majorly studying about Data structures, algorithms, OS, processes, machine learning and some theoretical computer science courses. Including ICT problems and projects. One has basically few moments to relate learning how to code properly.
The only advantage a CS student has from all other science students is the ability to understand concept faster due to background, But this barely has too many advantages as this advantage shows their head in large and complex systems with complex algorithms and data structure which a CS student has been trained to handle CS student trained to handle ?? How did you think CS is being taught in Nigeria University ??, Lol. You better off learning those concepts on edx, MIT ocw and other online resources than Institutions where if you are well grounded you might feel you are more knowledgeable than the folks teaching you. |

Henryjr: African mentality, always of the mindset that the west is superior. the wire fraud we all talk about today, was it started in nigeria or in the western world? until we start seeing ourselves as a great people, we will always be slave to them. was it not in America, a police man killed Floyd? you guys are amazing Dimwit, how is the west not ur superior... where should that start to begin with. A state in the US has an economy bigger than that of over 50 countries in Africa, choke on that. The so called west can decide to make life difficult for black man today, Mr. they are your superior and that will be till the end of time. |
