Sahara reporters is a name on the lips of every Nigerian who follows happenings on the internet. It's no gain saying that this media house has been the spear head of an independent and professional reportage which has since been its hallmark and modus operandi since its inception. Sahara reporters blaze the trail in investigative journalism, exclusive interviews, insights and lots of breaking news (which is exclusive to it). But sadly, this source of information (a total deviation) from the past has come under harmer from different angles for varying reasons which is mostly political. Many people have criticized this online medium for biasness, deceit, and lies. In fact some people have tagged it an APC propaganda tool, a boko haram media wing etc. Actually, you might not agree with Sahara reporters 100%(I personally don't too), but the undisputable fact is that, it deserves commendation rather than condemnation, it has done more good than harm and has exposed the corruption, bad governance etc and its perpetrators across board in our nation. This online media has stood with Nigerians in difficult times and have successfully aided in defending the ideals, ethics, and ethos of democracy that we currently enjoy in this country. It's on record that, this news media defended Jonathan during the late president yaradua's saga, they informed Nigerians of the true state of health of the then president, and how it was been politicized by some people. They made sure, that the doctrine of necessity was passed and subsequently utilized which was instrumental in making GEJ, acting president before been sworn in as president. They were also not deterred during the subsidy protest, as they made Nigerians understand the true state of matters which eventually led to the status quo not been maintained by the F.G till date. It's difficult to say, but sahara reporters have been a sort of whistle blower, or otherwise referred to as Nigeria's wikileaks with its exclusive news, that most at times turn out to be true. That's why it's saddening to see people accuse them without facts. Most corruption cases which would have been left unattended to, was brought to the fore by them. We can't easily forget the case of former aviation minister Stella Oduah, it was this news media that told the whole world, the stories behind the stories. They were able to unravel the fact that, she was embezzling the nation's funds to buy bullet proof cars, and also siphoning our money for personal use. When that news broke, some people doubted it, resorted into accusations as usual, but at last Sahara reporters was vindicated and today we all know who really had Nigerian interest at heart. The story of the first lady also comes to mind. When she traveled to Germany and was seriously ill according to them. Most people faulted this with the presidency releasing a statement to disregard it and blamed them for their biased reportage. Months after the incident, when the first lady in a thanksgiving service told the nation that she was almost dead, but that only God saved her life. Again, Sahara reporters was vindicated. About a year ago, it was reported that Nigeria's delegation to the UN was about 600, with the president traveling with people who had no business whatsoever over there. In fact, they went on to report that, our delegation is the highest to the annual conference. As usual, it was not believed as the presidency through Reuben Abati refuted this claim, but rather suggested that the president traveled with a few ministers and aides, and that anybody apart from v those mentioned was doing so, solely on their own. Just about two weeks ago, the v new minister of foreign affairs came out publicly to corroborate their report, indicating that indeed Nigeria truly had that large number in the conference last year. Again, Sahara reporters was also proven beyond reasonable doubt. Just a few days ago, the news broke indicting the CAN president of ownership of a jet which was seized in south Africa for stacking about $10 million meant to buy arms and ammunitions. As soon as Sahara reporters broke the news, some people went wide to disprove it, insinuating that it was all lies. But, alas just that same day the CAN president agreed to the fact that he owned the jet, though he stated that he's already leased it out. Again, the critics of Sahara reporters were silenced. In fact I can go on and on. Finally, let me state once again that I personally commend this Nigeria's whistle blower for a job well done so far. It's also necessary that all well meaning Nigerians do so, support this online media especially as we approach the 2015 elections, because those who are against the progress of this nation will do all possible to silence them, start a campaign of calumny against them, and will also try to paint them black. On this note, i urge us all to be at alert at this critical period in our nation's history, let's not be hoodwinked into thinking that Sahara reporters is all about lies, let's all be on the lookout for exclusive reports from them especially as the true perpetrators of Boko haram are been brought to the fore, don't allow anyone to disprove their news without facts, and let's be among those who commend and not condemn them because they truly deserve it. wesley80: Spare me the bull crap and direct your abuse to your fundamentalist pathetic self. if you were literate enough to read you'd know the article is only calling for a thorough investigation and berating the LASG for their disposition, but how's a foool supposed to know that? You're the fundamentally pathetic soul here. How will you call for an investigation and you're trying to islamize it, that's fair right? Of all the evidences given so far, the most correct is v that the 6 storey building was built on an initially planned 2 storey building which is not supposed on its own. So, the issue of helicopter is still been investigated and you can't blame LASG for not having a concrete report up till now because it's not in their hands. So, instead of promoting and celebrating evil, you should rather condemn and say the truth always. BTW, The award I gave you earlier still holds water until proven otherwise. #Olukwu |
wesley80: Is it not curious that more than 7days after the collapse, NAMA and the Lagos state government are yet to issue a statement concerning the "strange aircraft"? Instead, we are hearing of indictments! A few months ago a Boko Haram bomber was caught in same church after failing to detonate his devise. After being initially scoffed at by a largely ignorant public, the church handed the would - be bomber over to the authorities for investigation only for the details to be hushed up after confirming he was actually a terrorist!Seriously I am compelled to declare that you deserve the award for the NAIRALAND'S FOOL OF THE YEAR. Your article, accusations lack substance and is just full of religious bigotry and sentiment without critically assessing the real Issues. If you are really a sincere Christian you would have called for a thorough probe and even if TBJ was indicted he should be prosecuted ASAP. About 90 lives are lost and all you could do is to blame APC and Fashola for trying to islamize Lagos, this is really pathetic of you and just points to the fact that you have no human piety in you. |
You see, Nigerians are really playing a role in the bad things that thrive in this country. Some reactions here have really been pathetic and embarrassing to say the least. The other day, a reporter with y-naija repoarted same issue on how they (journalists) were treated by TBJ and members of his church. Immediately some guys were attacking me of been anti Christ because I created a thread about it. So, you can see that objectivity has been dealt a real blow in this our country. Religious and tribal sentiment is now the order of the day. So, the leaders have to tread softly so that these myopic people won't start accusing them falsely. This is the thread here: https://www.nairaland.com/1902472/reporters-diary-how-got-attacked |
HouseOfBalloons: Getting a scholarship isn't only about the money. It improves your cvI know it does, but I stated clearly that most Nigerians do so, just to get some cash. |
KELVIN086: bros shehuaba not every one that goes to a private university is rich , some parents struggle to pay the fees just because they want the very best for their wards, while some students are being sponsored by their communities, church e.t.c that is why scholarships are always open for everyone.seems you didn't get what am trying to insinuate that even some rich who are comfortable still try to struggle to get the scholarships. |
Lagos is indeed blessed with men of proven integrity and intellect. Personally, I love and prefer Hamzat to govern Lagos after Fashola because I see him as a person who can do well. The APC primary in Lagos will really be interesting and tricky and will really go a long in deciding who rules there. I pray the best candidate emerges. |
maclatunji: You mean you are not married? I thought you were, I got the impression sometime ago. By the way, you have a nice concept for your blog.Yes, am not married. Well, impression doesn't actually imply the reality sometimes. Thanks for the compliment, just trying my best to do what I could as a person. |
The fear of Buhari is the beginning of wisdom for PDP guys. They know what the general brings to the table. They even try to use abusive words against our MAN. But we are not deterred, we are not moved, in fact we are more dedicated than ever, to make this work. A Buhari presidency we seek, A Buhari presidency we need, A Buhari presidency we shall get in 2015 God's willing. SAI BUHARI |
maclatunji: I am actually hoping you could be one of our advisers. This idea now project is a little bit slow because I am neck-deep in work on other things and this is a lot of work as well. Hopefully, Allah will grant me the wherewithal to coordinate this but I must admit, it is tough with the workload I have and it is so delicate, it requires a lot of care. People's lives would be affected by this and it is a huge challenge and responsibility. An adviser? Though am not running away from the responsibility but I personally think it should be reserved for experienced hands especially those who are married. But, I promise to participate actively in making this work out, in any capacity I can or you deem necessary. I pray Allah helps us all. |
SundayPhilip: Insightful. Thumb up sirThanks a lot, for dropping by sir. Hopefully you've gained from it |
modskiller: That man who increased the school fees from #35,000-#38,000 to #90,000 and above is who you're congratulating? Abegiiii. That's your personal opinion, he's my vc and I congratulate him heartily. BTW, you accuse him falsely of increasing the school fees to that amount. No UNILORITE pays up to 95k. |

Bro, please why are you so obsessed with lying against people. Please how dare you attribute a post to me falsely, you better stop doing that now or else... |
maclatunji: MSMS Action PlanWell this is really a welcome development. We pray Allah continues to bless those who have decided to sacrifice their time, and other things to make this work out. I pray it pans out the way, you initially planned, and by the grace of Allah soonest, we'll be celebrating brothers and sisters who are genuinely married via this medium. Please brothers and sisters, don't be deterred and discouraged to make this project work out, it's time to switch to action and do the needful. BAARAKALLAHU FIHI. |
gboss4sure: Is T.A getting the award for the worst Governor in the history of Nigeria? Please help me to ask Jonathan ooo. I was surprised when I saw his name on the list. That was political though |
Mogidi: When Buhari wins the presidency let him give awards to his friends as well. He can always make Shekau Grand Commander of Sambisa (GCOS) for a job well done. This man, wetin be your own and Buhari self. Why can't you just leave talking about the general. You don dey find trouble now ooo |
Congratulations to all of them. Whether it's truly deserved or not is another issue entirely. I must commend and congratulate my vice chancellor prof. Abdul Ganiy Ambali who was awarded with the OON. Really wish him and others, all the best. |

Kween1: good 1Thanks bro. Hope you have learnt one or two things. Plus any additions to make? |
siegfried99: Very nice write up @opThanks very much sir for your encouragement. I hope you have learnt one or two things from it. |
Moving ahead in your career, these are really important questions you must always brainstorm and ask yourself. It really pays a lot |
Many things happen in our life, without us asking the reasons why. Though it’s a fact that some things are bound to happen. But you know, asking the right questions most at times will lead you through a successful life, as it’s said that: “A person who asks can never be misled”. Do you know that, if you can ask the right questions, you will definitely get the right answers. Today, I am challenging you to ask yourself these 5 questions always in any aspect of your life, be it Studies, Business, Career, job hunt etc. If you can ask these questions, you will surely get it right 1. Who is your mentor? A mentor is a person who you look up to in life, this is the person who has climbed the ladder successfully and has made it in life. In fact this is like a teacher who teaches you the rudiments of life. So, do you have a mentor? Or do you think that you can learn it all alone? You see, the fact in this our generation is that mentorship has been dealt a real blow, maybe due to the purported “lack of mentors ” or that most people don’t just care to have one. And the result can be seen overwhelmingly in our society, as most people engage in many activities these days but sooner or later, they find it difficult to cope and continue. This is largely because they didn’t learn from the masters who have once been in their shoes. So, I challenge you today friend, who is your mentor? 2. Who are your friends? Show me your friends and I will tell you who you are. Right, isn’t it? Now let me ask you these questions? Why must you be careful with your choice of friends? Do friends really have any impact in your life? Is it possible to succeed/fail due to your choice of friends? Okay let me tell you this, Friends are as important in your life as your family. Your choice of friends really shows the kind of person you are. You can make or mar your future with them. In fact good friends are catalysts who help in your career. Do you know that some people are celebrated today because they chose the right friends, while some people are failures today because they chose the wrong friends? So, make friends with the right people and see your life change positively. 3. How do you associate with people? The people you meet daily have a role to play in your life. Though it is true that we are created differently, but no matter what we have to associate with different people daily. It’s important to know that you have to be generally good with people; likewise you must be tough with tough people. Everybody requires a specific way of association and you must understand that too. Don’t be full of yourself, no matter your achievement. Don’t belittle people no matter how little they seem. Open your arms to everybody and treat people fairly, don’t discriminate too. Your association with people matters a lot and it goes a long way to affect your life. 4. How do you manage failures? Did I hear you say, managing failures? Or why should I be concerned about managing failures. But let me tell you this, failures are bound to happen in one way or the other in any facet of your life. In fact it is nonsensical for you to think that you can succeed without necessarily stumbling . But, most at times people approach failure with the wrong mindset, some people quit as soon as they fail (forgetting the saying that quitters never win). Managing failures is really essential in your life. Do you know that most of the successful people you see today, have once failed? It seems as though, they won’t make it in life but they were resilient and became success stories today. Or have you forgotten that the downfall of a man is not the end of his life, but a man who isn’t able to manage failure is deemed to fail. Remember that many would have succeeded today if they didn’t quit when it was tough. Ask yourself today, how do I manage that difficult situation which I am facing? Whatever you do to that today will definitely define your tomorrow. 5. Are you independent? You might be wondering what I actually meant by this, but how independent you’re goes a long way to play a crucial part in your life. By independence here, it encompasses many things but I am actually talking about your mind. Are you truly independent minded, how often do you take decisions based on personal conviction. How ready are you to take risks personally irrespective of what people say. Hope you are not the type who is obsessed with the crowd. Always trying to follow whatever others do, Even if they are wrong? You know, the people are wrong sometimes if not most of the time. So, basing your decision on whatever others do is truly detrimental to your growth as a person. Friend, be decisive today, do that which you are really convinced about, and see your career blossom. It’s really tough but you have no better choice than to be truly independent . On a Final Note: These are five questions you really need to sincerely ask yourself if you want a positive change in your life. These are tested and trusted questions for the achievers. If you have successfully been implementing any or all of it, this is the time to continue in that spirit. But if you have not been doing any of it before, this is the time to sit, ponder, and change for the better. Time, they say waits for no one, act fast today and I assure you that you will never regret it. Over to You: Do these questions mean anything to you? Have you been taking note of them before? Or do you have more questions that you think should always be asked? http://naijainspirationalhub.com/5-questions-you-must-ask/ |
Actually the senators have also not been helping matters, but on this call on Mr president, they are really spot on. |
Indeed, Nigerians are frustrated and angry with the way things are going in the country. There needs to be a strategic way to put an abrupt end to all these issues, as strange stories continue to pop up daily. I hope the president is proactive in his actions and take decisive steps to curb the menace of insecurity. As mark rightly said: " This is not about elections but about our safety, security, and sovereignty as a nation ". I pray he listens to the senators and do the needful. |
THE Senate, yesterday, canvassed tougher and full scale measures to end the Boko Haram insurgency. It said that the sect has declared war on Nigeria. The senators, who resumed from their two-month vacation, expressed dissatisfaction with how the war was being prosecuted and mandated the Senate leadership to meet with President Goodluck Jonathan and service chiefs to hammer out better strategies to checkmate the insurgents. Senator Mark, in his welcome speech said actions of the Boko Haram sect are a complete declaration of war geared towards undermining the nation’s sovereignty. Meantime, the Senate has referred President Jonathan’s $1 billion loan request to fight insurgency to its committees on Foreign, Finance, and Local Debt to report back within one week. Senator Mark in his speech also said the Senate was waiting for Mr. President’s action on the report of the just concluded National Conference which was convoked to discuss and suggest ways of resolving perceived structural defects in the polity. The Senate President further tasked the President to ensure the 2015 Appropriation Bill gets to the legislative chamber before the end of the month to enable the lawmakers pass it into law before January 2015. He noted that the escalation of violence and the heinous crimes being carried out on daily basis by the insurgents including the declaration of a caliphate had reached alarming proportions. Meeting president, service chiefs Dissatisfied with the strategy being adopted in prosecuting the war against the terrorists, the Senate in a resolution sequel to the motion sponsored by Senate Leader, Chief Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, and 107 other senators, had after critically examining the ongoing onslaught against the people of the North-East by Boko Haram, mandated the Senate President to meet with President Jonathan to discus better tactics on how to tackle the insurgency. In the motion tagged: Threat to National Sovereignty and Territorial integrity of Nigeria by insurgents, the senators expressed worry that the security situation in the North East states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa had continued to deteriorate despite the imposition of state of emergency in the said states. The Senate had equally observed that in the last two months while the National Assembly was on its annual recess, the nation witnessed unabated loss of lives and damage to property in what it noted was increasingly challenging the security agencies in the affected states. The Senate expressed concern that the insurgents purportedly carved out some local government areas in Borno and Adamawa states and declared same as Caliphate under their control just as it expressed concern that the level of regrouping of the insurgence was becoming alarming. The Senate President, while reacting to the concern of senators said: “We have to find a solution to it, back the military, mobilize as much as we can, bring back all our war resources together so that we can prosecute this war. There is no way in which we are just going to say that this is exclusively to one section of this country. No, and I don’t think that is the thinking in any quarter. “Unfortunately, we are not satisfied with the way the war has been prosecuted so far. We want a better strategy, we want a very concise, very precise statement that can give directions on how we are going to prosecute this war and end it as quickly as possible. “It is not the question of election. Election is not even on the table now. So I agree that what is happening now is a challenge even to our legitimacy in this chamber because if they have gone far by saying that they have declared a caliphate, then any senator or member who is from there is no more entitled to be in this chamber. “And these people can forcefully begin to take some people out of this chamber, and then the legitimacy of our own existence here is seriously challenged. There are so many issues that will arise as a result of what Boko Haram is doing. It started like a joke but it has gone far beyond that now. “All of us here cannot go and wear uniform and take rifle and fight. It is the Armed Forces that are going to do the fighting for us but all of us here have roles to play in executing this war. Let me say without any doubt at all, that the nation is at war, that is the issue. So it is not about whether it is Boko Haram or not Boko Haram. There is no difference between the situation in the North East now and if any other country had declared war on Nigeria. “My suggestion here is: How do we prosecute this war because there is a real war for us, whether it is on one section of the country or it’s covering the whole country. So, once a nation is at war, the entire nation will have to move all its resources and war efforts, whether it is refugee, whether it is medical or anything at all. “So, indeed, there is no doubt in my mind that what the Boko Haram is doing now is that they have declared war on Nigerians. It is true we didn’t recall the Senate but you are aware that we directed the Senate Committee on Defence to meet with Service Chiefs when we were on recess so that we can get a proper briefing. “We have a dilemma on our hands here because there is a limit to what we can say here in plenary and what we can discuss in a closed-door session. So, we have to be a bit careful.” http://omojuwa.com/2014/09/boko-haram-nigerians-are-frustrated-helpless-angry-senate-asks-mark-tell-president-jonathan/ |

No matter what, Atiku cannot emerge as APC presidential candidate. We know his type, and the game he's trying to play. But, I can assure you that with or without primary, a candidate apart from Atiku will emerge as the candidate most preferably Buhari. |
