In 1999, do you recollect a certain tom ikimi shouting obasanjo obasanjo ekwueme during the PDP primaries? There was no northern contender as such. The Alliance for Democracy produce Olu Falae while ANPP had Harry Akande. There was an unwritten agreement not to challenge the yorubas in 1999. If you need more clarification ask from foundation members of registered political parties of the era and seek why all major political parties of that time had only yorubas as flagbearers.

Google is equally your friend for further clarity.

Sorry I left Nigeria before then

pendy79:

@ ikenna if we are all good students of history, you will realize that all political parties in.1999 decided to zone the presidency to the SW based on the infamous June 12 debacle and the need to appease the Yoruba race for the handling of the imbroglio and that subsequently the seat shall rotate between the North and the South.

Obasanjo spent 8years on the seat and it will be selfish and an act of injustice to project another Yoruba man for same seat 8 years after in a country with 6 political zones. The Yorubas knows this and since we've always been taught to respect arrangement and agreement, you won't see a Yoruba man gunning for presidency in 2015.

Nobody is born to rule, power is transient. We don't run a monarchy hence no zone should feel rejected or neglected else it will spring forth insurgency and lack of trust among peoples of the country. GEJ knew he had a gentleman agreement with the North and PDP stakeholders in 2011 and it is his betrayal that warrant the political impasse of 2013.

This is a lie from the pit of hell repeated by liars after the fact
If the presidency was zoned to the SW or south why didn't OBJ run unopposed?
Why were there northern candidates competing with him in the primaries each time

UTILITYMAY: Fresh reports say that Boko Haram group has finally agreed to free all the Chibok girls for 18 sect commanders currently in detention.

It would be recalled that less than two weeks ago it was reported that the insurgents had agreed to release only 30 female students abducted in April in exchange for 18 key group members. The decision was allegedly made after the Nigerian authorities had held secret talks with one of boko haram seniors identified as Umar.

This Saturday it was gathered that the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Nigerian government were holding long-time negotiations on the issue.

Finally, according to the Nation, the agreement on 219 girls release was reached.

It has been reported that the two parties asked their representatives to go back to their leaders to discuss the new conditions.

At the meeting said to be facilitated by the President, Civil Rights Congress (CRC), Comrade Shehu Sani, it was allegedly claimed that if the girls were tried to be released by force, it might lead to fatalities.

One of those who attended the session said:

“The sect shifted its position and agreed to release all the girls instead of 30 Christian married girls it had promised. But Boko Haram said it does not trust the government going by previous experience. If the government had respected previous talks, the Chibok girls were initially meant to be off the hook during the Eid-el Fitr festival. Again about two weeks ago, a delegation was already in Maiduguri until the swap deal was bungled. Some security agents only advised on the release of six out of the 18 leaders of the sect. They rated the rest 12 as dangerous. When the insurgents found out, they backtracked and demanded the release of the 18 leaders. The development paved the way for the latest talks in Abuja which involved the ICRC.”

The source also said that the Nigerian authorities promised to release the 18 leaders as soon as all the girls were let go.

Another source present at the session said:

“We generally agreed that all the parties should go back to their leaders on the agreement reached. The government said no to piecemeal release of the girls and Boko Haram claimed that it will not have any business with the government until all the 18 leaders of the sect are freed. After the Eid-el-Kabir festival, the two parties will meet again on the terms to finalise the agreement or part ways. Before the meeting rose, Boko Haram representatives warned against the use of force to liberate the girls. It also made it clear that it had the “capacity to take on the Federal Government for the next 45 years.”

Regarding the insurgency in the North-East of Nigeria one of the sources said that “the outcome of the latest round of talks will determine whether they should ceasefire or not”.

It would be recalled that more than 200 girls were abducted on April 14 by boko haram in Chibok of the troubled Borno State. Despite both the military and social involvement of various countries worldwide, the majority of students are still missing.

This thread is not about marriage over career

Infact, your story will be a good one for the OP; with your family, you are still able to get ahead in your chosen career.

Funny enough, you might not have really moved further than where you are now if you were single without kids

The thread is about so many things including that I read the original post three times and shook my head each time.
Do you know why my career seems to be picking up now,my kids are no longer babies
They can pretty much do everything themselves so I have less to do for them
I can afford to stay at work till 7 PM and do stuff
I can travel out to conferences
In fact this October I will be out almost two weeks on work related stuff ( one week at a time)
I can take part in career enhancing ventures out of town
I couldn't do that before

At one point or the other, we all have to make sacrifices..

I know men & women who slowed down at one point or the other to accommodate family needs.

I doubt the OP is taking about making sacrifices here...

There is a difference between I have to defer my professional exams for 2yrs because of child birth/kids/hubby will be away etc. and I am no longer doing my professional exams because I am married.

@NOI: Her hubby would have cheated even if she was sleeping on him daily. It is better she achieved what she wanted to achieve not minding the bad marriage than letting her husband's antics get to her.

It would be disastrous if she looked at him, forgone her dreams and the man still cheated.

A woman can still achieve all she wants to with her family and a supportive husband. Infact, her supportive husband will spur her to achieve more maybe at a slower pace but definitely more fulfilling.

I know other women that got married and were blessed with disabled or sickly children in one shape or another
Guess who had to quit their job or cut down to accommodate that situation?
We can't sit and paint everyone with a brush

I speak from my experiences,I know without a doubt that my career which seems to be taking off on a coaster now, would have surpassed where I am now by many miles had I been single without kids.
I know what I went through trying to get through training and jobs and finding child care etc.
Calling in sick at work because your child has a fever and everyone mad at you because patients had to be cancelled.
But if I were to do it again,I will still choose marriage and children

It is tough to work and raise small children
Ask any working mother with 2,3 or 4 small kids
It is a very difficult thing to do
You come home exhausted but you still have to swing by a day care to pick up kids then work some more and repeat the cycle next day
Those of us who did it and are doing it know it is no cake walk
I had numerous times I wish I didn't work or worked part time

The problem is not marrying out of school or marrying young; we have Omotola a very typical example close to us (she married at 18)

The problem is forsaking your dreams (if you have) because of marriage or seeing marriage as a means to an end. She is saying you can be a mother, wife, grandma sef and still shake your world or do something fulfilling.

I think people miss it because they equate career & dreams into becoming a bank manager

Our dear Seun is an entrepreneur and I doubt he has a corporate office. He doesnot have to wear a suit daily to the office either.

we have people doing well in fashion, cobbling, dress making, production of stuffs, doing well in their various occupations etc.

@ Grandma in fifties, I doubt the marry in school part grin

My mum will be a grandma in her early fifties and she married out of school (But again, we both married early)

Sometimes your dream may have to take a back burner or become modified when you marry
It happens
Marriage and kids can sometimes slow a woman's career progress
It is the sacrifice we make for family
And someone has to make that sacrifice
I would rather it be me than my husband
I dreamed of being a surgeon but I moved to the USA with hubby and there are no 24 hour house girls here
I had to settle for a path that will accommodate the family life I chose.
I don't regret that sacrifice one bit.
Hubby on the other hand went on to acquire more degrees and specialized trainings,he works more and makes more and has achieved more and that is OK.His successes are also my success.
i am the more available parent in terms of time.if the children's school called, they will be calling me and I will be there.i will be the one to do the doctor visits etc.
When a woman chooses family, there are certainly sacrifices to be made and only a child or someone who chooses to be ignorant would knock that or label it a lack of ambition.
Everyone is talking about NOI
While she was in Nigeria serving her country ,wasn't her doctor husband in Maryland USA palpating and auscultating the nurses ?
We read that in the papers.who knows,it may not have been so if she were home, just maybe.
on the other hand I have a classmate that waived off marriage and attained the pinnacle of her career in England.a surgeon with her own surgery, she just got married a few years ago to a man her junior who obviously married her for papers and he got it and moved on.
Certainly not whom she would have married as a younger woman.

4tunebest: I am creating this topic as a last resort, since everything we tried to solve this issue have so far proved abortive.

For over a month, my mum has been itching seriously, mostly @ night and the discomfort prevents her from sleeping throughout the night. During the day, everything is normal but once it is night, stuff like hives start appearing on her skin, which itches until dawn. Then in the morning, the hives disappear & the itching stops until night time when thesame thing repeats itself. We have used drugs prescribed by doctors, yet no improvement.

Please what else can we do?
Thanks in anticipation of your helpful response.

The first thing is to check the bed for bedbugs,if it's negative then she should do liver and kidney function tests as build up of toxins can cause itching,I hope they will come out ok though.
Then one last thing
Some women also complain of strange symptoms including "internal heat", heart beating fast, crawling sensations and itching during menopause, she could be going through menopause.

Religion / Lamentations about Churches hiding under the cloak of religiosity to use members by sheniqua: 3:31am On Sep 23, 2014
This topic stemmed from a series of recent discussions with friends.
Why do Nigerians take undue advantage of others while hiding under the banner of religion with sentences like " it is done for God or this is the house of God"
And why do intelligent people not question these clear manipulations for selfish gains?
Before you begin to wonder I am a Christian too and it is time people opened their eyes to see that many of the people we call men of God are using the bible for selfish gains.
Now check this out

1. Why would a church collecting millions of naira in tithes and offerings from members also use these same members to clean, mop, weed the church and surroundings free of charge?
Who employs laborers to work in their private enterprise without paying them?
These churches are registered in the name of the multimillion dollar owners but they can't hire a janitor ,not even a jobless sister or brother in that same church to clean the toilets and sweep the floors rather they expect women to leave their husband's homes on Saturdays to come clean the church.Deceiving them that they are doing it for God rather than tell them they are being chopped mugu.
Why all this deception?
I can understand a small church with a handful of worshipers but I cannot understand the same arrangement for big and mega churches ,drawing up cleaning rosters for men and women in the church.

2. It is bad enough people are being made to work for free in the name of " doing God's work" why are they selling the word of God to the parishioners on top of it all?
Na only congregation suppose work for God?
The choristers and musicians sing and play for free
Teachers at the children's church teach and babysit for free but when the pastors preach, they dub the message into compact discs ,some are muffled you can't hear some of the words and they sell them to the congregation why?
Your CDs and DVDs ain't free but our labor is free?
Why is the church making countless gain from the people of God at all costs?
They tape the worship and sell
They tape the messages and sell
They organize workshops, seminars, retreats on church property and charge the members
I remember Christ embassy some years ago charging for News year's eve service
Imagine that
And people paid happily
Every thing has become a money making merchandise for these men and women of God
They sell us holy anointing oil and water ,holy handkerchief ,holy pamphlets and magazines, they write books, some of very poor quality and sell to the same people who are already paying tithes and giving offerings.
The church owner aka CEO dreams of a bigger building or wants to open a school or university or branches of the ministry and add to his income rather than go to the bank and get a loan like all other businesses do,they look on the congregation who have no stake in the business to fund it and sustain it .
The same pastor will tell us from a pulpit that him and his church are debt free forgetting that the congregation worked their butts off to provide him with that debt free living and that they have monthly rents and mortgages to pay.
How does he pay them?
He buys a jet ,moves into a bigger mansion, hires security, lives like a king .The congregation funds his lavish lifestyle and that of his family or gives him the seed with which to venture into a myriad of businesses but he wants more.God is watching.

3. I have tried to locate the biblical injunction where church donations and offerings could be made with borrowed money and can't find one.
Some preachers now encourage giving with credit cards. How can God ask anyone to borrow Money at 20.99% to give to him?
They want your tithes and scare you into parting with 10% of your income
They want offerings and it must be sacrificial
They want church building fund
Children's ministry fund
Seed faith
Music fund
Women and men ministry dues
Pledges that you must redeem
As if it's not enough the members will also ask their fellow members to fund a Pastor's appreciation fund shocked
A few years ago they came up with first fruits where you are expected to give all your January salary to the church
Ah ah
What's next?

Before anyone calls me an antiChrist pointing at Churches of old, please go through the entire scriptures, you read about the Church in Antioch and Church in Ephesus and Galatia. We never read of a Church owned and operated by a man with his wife as Vice President and the conglomerate inheritable by his children. That is purely the way we have chosen to operate houses of worship which makes sense in modern times so while at it ,we cannot use the same standards of churches of those times to operate these private enterprise of today.
Ananias and Saphira lied to the Holy Spirit ,the church members sold all they had and put the money in a common purse for everyone's use.
It doesn't work that way today,Most churches especially Pentecostal churches are purely private enterprises and the owners should be careful not pass them off by mere words as belonging to the congregation when it truly doesn't .

4 I did a little search,see this http://www.churchmusicjobs.com/a/jobs/find-jobs
These is a website advertising church openings in the USA from children's ministry director to pianist to worship leader and Sunday school teachers.Paid positions but of course Nigerian churches will never learn that
They want to be like Americans only when it suits them.
The pastor and his wife draw a salary from the church but the workers in the church who spend hours teaching and working are expected to work for free because someone has brainwashed them that they are not entitled to be paid when it comes to things of God
Says who?
How fair is that?

safarigirl: wherever did I say "To hell with marriage and motherhood"?

You have apparently failed to grasp the message. This isn't telling women to abandon their roles as caregivers, this is telling women to develop themselves in their chosen career paths.

What if the man that's been providing for you as a woman suddenly loses interest in the marriage? I know of someone who's been left homeless after her husband kicked her and the kids out cuz he got someone else to warm his bed. Now she's begging for just 1k of feeding money cuz she failed to use her degree when she should've.

There are women trapped in frustrating marriages that can't get out because they were not empowered, because they chose to remain at home and care for their husband's kids and now the husband is treating them like trash because he knows she has no choice.

So don't make mockery of my message or twist it up. You can be a wife and a mother, but there should be more to a woman than being Mrs. Somebody

This your thread keeps getting additions as you move along.
You started with women having no ambition ,not caring about their grades and desiring to marry and have kids
You are now on to spousal abuse and mistaking the lack of the nigerian system to protect women in divorce to a woman having no ambition

Same thing I wanted to ask
It looks like the woman is taking out the hatred for her dad on her
She ended up married to a man just as abusive as her dad and she leaves to become a single mother who will end up someday with a second husband and having kids that will put her child in the same situation she is in.
The cycle continues
They need to break that cycle or that child of hers 20 years from today will have the same complaints
