This issue has always been a debate in the tech industry, well there are people with just GED in the US who are working for fortune500 companies and earning seven figures, likewise there are people with CS degrees who are yet to even land their first job.

Any company HR that is looking to hire tech professionals especially programmers and designers and makes degree a requirement is definitely making a foolish move.

Tech is a practical field where the conventional school's curriculum can't even keep up with .

Degree is important oooo even our petty petty Tech companies in Nigeria, big or small tech firm in Europe or America requires you to have a degree from a reputable university. It maybe any course but you must have a degree from a well recognized school in your country. I am new convert to game developer myself, coming from robotics etc.

So far i am finding there is good demand for Unreal Engine skills, its just about the most powerful game engine, the most complex and challenging. So its hard work, and as result there is demand for the skills.

Its the Game Engine that was used to develop Fortnight .

Skills required is C++ , but the game engine also has its own programming language called Blueprints, and Its got a whole ton of internal tools .

Think of game production like movie production , so that tools like Unreal Engine and UNity have a ton of tools that you have to learn for doing things like animation, NPC AI , and all kinds of graphics special effects .

The good thing is though there is a lot of tutorial videos on YouTube.

1- You can get paid helping on another persons project
2- You can develop your own game , the Engine is free until your game is making 1 million dollars , then you have to pay royalty
3 - You can develop Assets that other gam dveopers can use either inform of software or Artwork such as landscape , materils, animation etc

So that I forgot to mention Unreal Engine is not just for programmers to make money, Artists too can make money, and the engine has its own market place where programmers and artitts sell the tools used buy other developers to make thier games.

At the bolder is actually true, if after 6 months of comprehensive study and you can’t design a basic website or app, then software engineering is not for the person, I’m talking from experience chief, html and css can be learnt in one month of comprehensive study.

With html and css you can already build a website but without functionality then imagine learning JavaScript for 5 months. It’s very possible.

This is not for everyone

We have few of them advertising on Nairaland too. How could you be telling your students they will know how to develop a website or Application after 6 months of learning a language. This is just a pure scam!! What pained me the most is the high price they charged?? Whey everything dey online for free if you're not lazy to research, read documentations of the language you want to learn and practice a lot of coding excercise.
Instead of paying them such huge money. I will use it to buy a good laptop, wifi, office table and chair to sit while coding and good food to eat.
90% of world programmers are hardworking self taught programmers.
