Food / Suggested Receipes For A Diabetic by sherocks: 12:09pm On Jul 13, 2009
Hi all

My mom is diabetic and has come to stay with me for a few weeks. I have been racking my brain thinking of a variety of dishes to give her as her diet is now very restrictive.

I would really appreciate any suggestion.

Her typical day consists of
Breakfast - Moimoi, no akara as she is trying to lower her cholesterol
Lunch - Wheat with vegetable soup
Dinner - Brown rice and stew

She is getting fed up and so am I. I feel so bad that I am unable to think of creative things to make for her.
She doesn't eat carbs so that rules a lot of things out of her diet.

Please help !

Business / Re: What Are Your Achievements In 2007? by sherocks: 3:52pm On Dec 20, 2007
God has been marvellous to my family and I this year and I pray that I never stop praising and thanking him for his goodness.

He has done so many things but to mention a few:

- Not once did I have to visit any of my family in hospital and vice versa - Sound Health
- He healed my uncle of a nerve that was troublesome - Healing
- My family and I convened for more than one joyous occassion this year and he granted us all journey mercies - Protection
- I am so happy in my job - Fulfillment
I have yet to achieve all the things on my list of accomplishments for 2007 but I know that 2008 will be better and full of even more joy, peace, happiness, success, good health, multiplication of wonderful things, spiritual growth and blessings because I serve a God who is my shelter, deliverer, refuge and strength.

Here's to a prosperous 2008 *clicks fake champagne glasses*

May God exceed our needs and desires in 2008 in the name of his excellent son, Jesus Christ !

Very many thanks

Hi again

Thanks everyone that responded to my post. May God always bring you help in time of need. This is the first time I have spoken with anyone apart from my family with regards to this my sister’s plight.

In reply to your Qs.

@ salsera, you’re right. I guess the ECO was justified in refusing the visa based on that but he alse stated a lot of other reasons which I thought were absurd. I don’t remember them but I’ll get my sister to send a copy.

No, she’s not working at the moment and hasn’t been for a while.

Thanks queentayo for the link. I’ll forward it to her.

@Akolawole.
1. No, she didn’t own up to the forgery as she was oblivious to it. She didn’t know her passport had been tampered with and it wasn’t until she applied that she was told by the ECO.
2. The student visa was allegedly removed and put back.
3. In fact, she wrote an epistle though this was after she was denied the visa and this was to appeal against the ECO’s decision. She wrote so much that I don’t remember everything. I will ask her to send me copies of everything she submitted.

Hi All

Thanks so much for all your invaluable advice, its been most insightful.

While a lot of cases here are based on refusal of student visas, my sister’s own is quite the opposite.

This is her story:

1996 – Got a student visa to study Law in the UK
2000 – Graduated and went back home
2001 – Went to the UK on a visitors visa and overstayed on it.
2001 – Went back home and tried backdating it but unknown to her, her passport itself was tampered with but she didn’t notice as most of her visas looked intact
2002 – Tried to renew her visitor’s visa but was refused based on the grounds that the stamps on her pasport were forgeries.
2006 – Tried applying for a Working Holiday Visa but was refused based on the following resaons which I thought were just excuses.
• She didn’t state all the places she would visit as a tourist.
• Didn’t convince the ECO that she would come back after 2 years
• No evidence of working in Nigeria, which was one of the reasons she wanted to come to the UK to work a bit to make some money in order start a small scale business in Nigeria

Well, we put it down to what happened in 2001 but the ECO denied it. She tried appealing but the ECO’s decision was upheld.

She has now decided to apply for the HMSP but we don;t know what documents are needed.

Could you lovely people advice ??
Health / Re: I Oversleep by sherocks: 2:35pm On Aug 22, 2007
I am not sure that resorting to caffiene is a such a good idea because once you start, your body will become dependent on it.

You might need to go for a blood test in order to find out what the problem is. There are many possible reasons as to why you oversleep. Do you always feel tired ? You might be anaemic and need a blood test to prove this.

See a Dr to discuss it. Im sure you'll get to the bottom of it when you do.
Health / Re: TALK BOUT HIV by sherocks: 2:26pm On Aug 22, 2007
HIV is an issue that is really close to my heart. I try very much to educate people and have been thinking of joining one of the support groups to help and encourage people. I am not positive and do not know many people who are but I have read extensively about the virus and do know it is no longer a death sentence. As geegee said, one can be healthy and live a productive and normal life.

There is no way of knowing if one is positive apart from taking a test. One can remain asymptomatic (showing no symptoms) for many yearsand be positive and on the other hand, can fall ill and not have the virus.

If anyone is unsure, the only way of finding out is taking a test. I know it is one of the most difficult things to do but it is better to know than to live in fear.
Travel / Re: Settlement Visa by sherocks: 1:29pm On Jul 11, 2007
It depends on a lot of things.

If you live in the UK, it can take up to 3 months to have this processed and you will be able to ask for your passport if you need to travel but that means going back to the end of the queue.

Besides, you can always ring them up to ask these questions. They are better qualified to answer.
Travel / American Visa Lottery - Expiry Date by sherocks: 9:45am On Jul 11, 2007
Hello All

A friend of mine won the American visa lottery in 2002 but didn't do anything about it.

I was wondering if there is a time frame for processing the visa or if there is an expiration date for it.

Any advice would be most appreciated.
Religion / Why Do You Fast ? by sherocks: 8:12pm On Mar 13, 2007
Hello All

My colleague and I had a discussion on fasting and praying and asked each other why we do it. I said it makes me hear clearly from God and she said it subdues her flesh.  We both agreed that it doesn't move the hand of God but many believe otherwise.

So, I am really curious to find out why people fast. Forgive me if this sounds like an obvious Q,  I was just wondering,

Romance / Where Are They ? by sherocks: 5:34pm On Nov 24, 2006
I am a 31 year old woman who is enlightend, has a good sense of humour and deeply loves God.

Problem: I have been single for over a year now and loads of friends with good hearts have been trying to hook me up with several people. The thing is that none of the guys I have met and trust me, I have met loads, are up to what I believe should be my boyfriend.

I live in the UK and it has become almost a herculean task meeting a decent guy who is able to string a simple sentence in English, has the same background as I do and is not after a British passport.

I am sure there are a few out there but can someone please tell me where they are ??
Religion / Christian Marriages And Toys by sherocks: 8:47pm On Jul 21, 2006
My friends and I were having a discussion about these a few days ago and I would like to know what your views are.

I am of the belief that 'toys' can be used in a marriage as long as it is so, i.e. a marriage. Some of my friends however, were of the view that the body is the temple of God and 'foreign bodies' should not be introduced.

A few of us agreed that as long as you are married and your husband/wife consents to it and you have that conviction in your heart that you are not doing wrong, then it is ok.

I am born again and have been so for over 10 years.

Over to you.

Regarding having a bath in the River, Did jesus not tell the man with Leprosy to go and have a bath in River Jordan?

How often did this happen ? How many times did the man with leprosy have to take a bath ? Are you saying that in Cele, you are only required to bath once ? If so, I got my understanding of the bath thing wrong but how many people in Cele bath because they've got leprosy or any other dermatological disease because from a  previous post, Cele people seem to follow the bible literally.

GREED:

Amen.my brother in Christ.

I personally think the Celestial church is judgemental and as someone said in one of the posts, the church follows ONLY the old testament otherwise why would you have all these rules. Jesus said to come as you are, whether or not you smoke, drink or live a lifestyle that seems contrary to the word of God. That is the whole purpose of knowing him i.e. changing your ways once the Holy Spirit lives in you.

Re: Eating pork, PLEEEEAASSEEE !!! Did you not read the part in the bible when Jesus was asked what NOT to eat and he said that it is not what goes in your mouth but what comes out of it that matters.

And what is the basis for not wearing red or black apparel, why should it matter if it is worn for professional or personal reasons ?

Christianity is not as difficult as people make it and I think Jesus abolished the following of traditional practices when he gave his life as an atonement for my sins.

Jesus is not bothered if you come to him with any colour of clothing, does not require you bathing in any river only for baptism, which in my opinion should be done once, does not mind what you eat and does not require that you worship him wearing a uniform.

Follow the doctrines of the bible and the Holy Spirit will lead you.

@ Good guy, would you kindly tell me the difference between Cele, Cherubim & Seraphim and Aladura ?
Religion / Re: Celestial Church of Christ: Your Experience And Opinion by sherocks: 4:01pm On Apr 10, 2006
Hello everyone

My own experience with cele is this. A very good friend of mine who attends cele told me many years back that one of their great prophets from one of the parishes in Nigeria was coming to London and this man was renowed for being spiritual and would pray away my problems. I foolishly took my then best friend with me for 'prayers'. When we got there, the man prayed for us individullay and said he would need to do some work (ise) on us. He said we would need candles, minute crosses and bibles (for thanksgiving). After saying all that he said the total amount for my friend was £100 or so and me £150 (I don't remember exactly) but it was something along those lines. As soon as he said it, I asked my friend (the cele-brity who took me there) where I was to get that kind of money, he immediatly dragged me out and said one doesn't speak like that in the presence of an alagba. Needless to say, I pulled my friend who was still kneeling up and dragged her out of the church. I was quite upset with my cele-brity friend cos he didn't tell me they would ask for money. That was the first and last time I ever went looking for trouble with celestial people. grin
