TheLoneCitizen:
That's injustice in your perspective.

Do you know a player called Mohamed Eisa or Danny Hylton?

What about Jack Marriott or Brett Pitman?

If not, then I believe you must know Leon Clarke or Bobby Reid?

One team common among these players are that they are English and they all scored at least 19 goals. Yet they did not get close to the England preliminary squad. An inconsistent Jesse Lingard was selected over high-flying Bobby Reid. Why?

Because all the aforementioned players play in League 2, League 1 and Championship level of English level. A loaned out Ademola Lookman was even above any of these players.

That's the point, you have to play at the highest level of football to play at the highest tournaments. Yes, there was a time the NPFL was regularly supplying the national team with great players like Enyeama, but the league as steadily deteriorated. Now every news that stems out of there is just hear-say, with little evidence.

Could you compare one of the biggest leagues in Asia with a league that was stripped off a slot in the Champions League. Show unbiased and non-sentimental judgement, brother.
Is Chinese league the biggest or one of the biggest leagues?

But he did create chances yesterday did he not?

He did press high up the pitch did he not?

He did match and even bested Modric at times did he not?

He did fall back a couple of times to even help bring out the ball from defence and build from the back did he not?

Mikel is still our creative hub alongside Iwobi... That is a fact.

The best option I expect anyone to tell me is to move Mikel to CM while Iwobi plays AM and we can have a true discussion because I am also (as an option) for a Ndidi-Mikel-Iwobi midfield against Iceland with Iheanacho and Moses up top.

We need to break down that Icelandic Juggernaut wall.
Okay o. I hear you if you no wan hear me. Let's see how far they go against Iceland

Oga... See ehn... Understand something.

This has been the same clichéd argument for the local players. That they will play their lives out, spill blood on the pitch, and rather die on field defending the GWG better. Lol... But all that is just sentimental hogwash.

The local players cannot and will not give what they don't have. And what they don't have is the ability and mentality to cope and fare against top quality opposition on the biggest stage of the beautiful game. WE WILL BE SO ROASTED EHN... IN FACT, THE PASSION WILL MEAN NOTHING AGAIN, because passion without the requisite mentality to compete will only work to kill off that passion the more and make us look like fools.

The best way to go with the local lads thing is to improve our league and channel our focus on stepping up the quality. That way, our local lads can be trusted but right now, it is not even close. So it is not about belief in the local league my man, it is about the huge gap in quality... This is the FIFA World cup... The highest level of the beautiful game. And gathering a bunch of locals motivated to make names for themselves will not be enough I am afraid.

I know some may wanna refer to Iceland but Iceland have some players in top leagues too. And their league is possibly even better compared to ours.
Sunday Mba was a local player before going for the AFCON remember and he did well. I know our league needs improvement yes, we need to focus well on that aspect. All I'm saying is our foreign players are more or less just like the local players, even with their EXPOSURE and INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE of what good are they? Did or Have they shown they're good or natch the occasions? These guys hardly play at club level and some even underperform and we expect them to do any reasonable thing at the world cup. We need to build from ground zero and add those players(foreign) the good ones o as supports. We can't continue with these players abeg. They're poor and didn't play like they came to win. We should be honest with ourselves.

Now listen to yourself, all fairweather followers, you've never stated Mikel a big waste before today. Define competition, a league that is not televised is more competitive than global leagues? Ask yourself.

180M. What would you say to USA who aren't in the tournament, China who had no chance, India who had no hope. They have citizens twice that of Nigeria. Not mentioning Indonesia or Pakistan, that shows shortsightedness on your part.

Look at Argentina going for an underperforming Higuain over a proven 30-goal Icardi. If you're a displaying imprudence on things everyone can see, how will you judge the hidden things, brother?
Those nations you mentioned don't parade themselves as a football nation remember. We always claim we are a footballing nation yet we never live up to the hype, maybe in the 90s we did. Forget all these crappy foreign players, they will never be of any good to us, BONE them and go local. As for Mikel I've never advocated for him as a good player, he's not GOOD and that's the pure truth. He might do better as a DM but as AM he's ERROR. Let's always learn to tell ourselves the truth. Our league is even much competitive than Chinese league the only lacking thing is adequate funding. Take it or leave it local players are out Best bet.

What of the chance he created after chasing and winning the ball off Modric beautifully?

What of the pass he rolled into Moses' path but Moses chose to fall like a woman instead of making good use of the chance Mikel offered him?

And you say Mikel didn't create chances??!

What was Ighalo doing up there too??! Why was his movement off the ball so below par?

Mikel is not to blame abeg. He worked his socks off Yesterday. That is a fact.
Compare both 10s on the pitch yesterday. Fact is Mikel is a defender and not an Attacking Midfielder. He played most of his football as a DM in Chelsea, it's only here we see him as a Messiah.

And what the hell will a lokosa bring??!! What exactly?

This is very very funny.

K.Nwakali was not even on the list of 30 so he could not even be considered. He is one for the nearest future.

Meanwhile, this is always how most of you guys talk. To you guys, The best players are those not there in Russia, the lokosas and the Nwakalis and co..... in fact you even say the home based players will do better... hahahahahahahahaha.... mehn, you are just being reactionary and emotional and I understand. Just go relax yourself because you obviously don't understand the magnitude of a World cup tournament.
That's the problem we always have, we believe the local players can't do well in international tournaments cos we believe we have a poor league. Yes our league is poor but don't forget no one knows these guys, they'll play their life out just to impress the world and that'll make a difference. All the years we've been taking foreign based players what has been the result? They've not done any better. You can't keep doing one thing same way and expect a different result. That Lokosa you're shaming scored more goals than Ighalo last season. He was the top scorer of NPFL which we all know is hard to score goals in. Forget all the hype around the foreign based players they're useless and hardly get playing times in their clubs. Looking inward and local is our best bet, we'll get better players than those over fed ones abroad.

TheGoodJoe:

If it is big boy on the pitch, Mikel was not doing that at all. He worked his socks off. Watch there were times he was exchanging balls with the defence and times he was ahead of Ighalo pressing the opposition defence. That is covering the length of the field.
A number 10 that cannot create chances is that one a 10? I expected Rohr to have made two subs at the beginning of the 2nd half. Bring in Iheanacho to support Ighalo change formation but waited till 60min and did mumu sub. I don't see this team that played yesterday winning any points or scoring a goal. They didn't play like they came to win at all.

all these people shouting formation up and down, not even Zidane or moirinho or pep can use any lethal formation for our team because we don't have the best personels to play that position.
Maybe if they had picked home based players, our foreign players are mediocre and below average.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Sheuns(m): 7:07am On Jun 17, 2018
I've always said the best set of players that should be taken for national honors are home based players. Our international players are average and get little or no playing time in their clubs. Imagine leaving Nwakali and Lokosa behind because you feel Mikel, and other mediocre players have experience. People playing in Chinese league that's not even as competitive as our own league. We should bone those foreign players and pick local ones. How can a country of over 180m people not be able to get 23 good and hungry players? Croatia and Iceland have far less population. Those our players are just doing big boy on the pitch, even Ronaldo and Messi didn't stroll aimlessly on the pitch. That Mikel is just a big waste, carry no 10 give defender.

Generally, 6.1" is somewhat considered average in size even though personally, I think it is big enough. However, the girth of 5.1" surely compensates for the length and so, I will consider you big overall. I am 7.5" in length but with a musch less girth than yours. So basically, you're big. grin

Most of the ladies screaming "I can't date or marry a broke man" have forgotten that their mothers married/dated their fathers when the man had little or nothing from the onset. Some of these ladies even still have broke dads.

Wooing a lady has little or nothing to do with a fat purse or not. It's all about self confidence, they're still rich guys that can't ask a lady out no matter the status of the lady.

Happened to me about 5-6yrs ago at Yaba. One bastard said he was from Cotonou and he lost his way or something there about, I was skeptical at first until one idiot came and started convincing me to help him. I agreed and got a bike that took us to Idi Araba where he claimed his goods were seized by customs and he wanted to meet one oga custom there to help him. I came back to my senses right away and knew it was all scam, I continued with them sha, he turned paper to money, the pastor came and did the saliva shit, collected the 3k I had on me then and said I should go and bring all the money I had at home for cleansing and I mustn't tell anyone else I'll die. I tried to drag with them, but they were beginning to get violent so I calmed down and told them I've heard, I got on a bike and went home never to return back, I told my people at home and I no die since then. About 3/4 yrs back again I came across some at Cele but just hissed and ignored them, the same story format as the first. I wanted to turn back and look for them so I can report them to some soldiers I saw but I changed my mind cos I was in a rush. Oloshi people them.

I watched the documentary today on TVC news and it's endemic here in Africa. Most of the referees were Ghanaians referees, even the Ghana FA president received a bribe of $65,000 cash to test his integrity. Dude was set up with a deal worth $50m where he'll receive about $4.5m as his own share. Funny thing is the Ghana FA president actually made a statement that they won't allow corruption get into the football in Ghana. I wish they can replicate this here in Nigeria for us to see how it is here too.
