The yorubas r the problem of under-developement in other states too or what? SLS is one big joke. I think he is eyeing a ticket with the SEners come 2015 presidential race, he is likely going to die a violent death career wise. Idiott.
The yoruba dominance in public sector is mainly a result of biafra war that opened key positions up for grabs, while the north refused western education the west embraced it and were available to fill it up since then. SLS should shut up.
PoliticsRe: Exclusive - Chief Obafemi Awolowo On Biafra (in His Own Words) by sheyguy: 8:58pm On Nov 28, 2011
Awolowo has said it all already u guys can argue from now till eternity, the man was the least problem of the ibos. He helped stop the war by blocking food supply the biafran army were hijacking and surviving on, the biafran civilian were already dying b4 awo blocked the food supply. If u ask me awolowo was the true savior of the ibos, he helped put a stop to the long and potentially longer suffering of the ibos by inflicting a relatively shorter one directed at the biafran army.
They say in war and in love, everything is fair. Awo had the option of indirectly prolonging the suffering of the ibos by leaving the food supply to go on, but he did not, to me he sacrificed his repuation by blocking the food supply, he could av done the opposite which will equally be fair in a war situation.

GEJ can't secure our border and run a govt. that will balance accounts. The same border where clothes, rice, wheat(flour), cars, human beings and our oil are being smuggled through daily. The same border that brings far more loss than oil subsidy brings to us.
I wonder what these south eastern supporter of subsidy removal will do when GEJ decides to remove rice and flour subsidy also just because there are some pple too special to GEJ behind it.

So the ibos culd only react to 1953 riot after an attempt to snatch power had turn sour 13 later on.
It goes to show ur mental strength as an ibo man, what about the your fellow southerners that ur ibo army killed men? According to ur article easterners and westerner were on the same side in 1953 struggle, after the killing of top western army men why did ibos/Ojukwu/Ironsi not condemn these actions.

nwabobo:
Like I said earlier on, I am in mourning mode. Therefore, I'll let u slide.

For the records though, Hausas didn't start murdering the Igbos post January 15 1966. Go read about the May 1953 Kano riots.
9ijaprince:
kano riot of 1953
A serious riot broke out in the
ancient city of Kano[1] in Northern
Nigeria on May 1, 1953. The nature
of the riot were clashes between
Northerners and Southerners made
up of mainly the Yorubas and the
Ibos. The riot that lasted for four
days claimed many lives of the
Southerners and Northerners and
many others were wounded.

Causes
The remote cause of the riot was
the strained relationship between
the Northern and Southern leaders
over the issue of self-government
in 1956. This strained relationship
started with a 1953 motion for self-
government for Nigeria in 1956
tabled in the House of
Representatives by a member of
the Action Group (AG) Chief
Anthony Enahoro. The Northerners
did not accept the motion. The
leader of the Northern People's
Congress (NPC) and the Saraduna of
Sokoto, Alhaji Ahmadu Bello in a
counter-motion replaced in the
year 1956 with the phrase "as soon
as practicable". Another Northern
member of the House moved a
motion for adjournment, a motion
viewed which Southern members
of AG and NCNC viewed as a delay
tactic. All the AG and NCNC
members in the house walked out
as a result of the adjournment
motion. When the Northern
delegates left the House, they were
confronted by hostile crowds in
Lagos who insulted, jeered and
called them all sorts of names.
Members of the Northern
delegation were embittered and in
their "Eight Point Program" in the
Northern Regional Legislative
House, they sought for secession.
The last straw that broke the
camel's back was the tour by a
delegation of the AG and NCNC led
by Chief S.L. Akintola. That tour
which was aimed at campaigning
for self-government acted as the
immediate cause of the Kano riot.
It sparked off a chain of disorder
that culminated in the riot.
Political implications
The riot left behind great
devastating effects which include:
The relationship between North
and South deteriorated.
The Action Group and National
Council of Nigeria and Cameroon
went into temporary alliance
against the Northern Peoples
Congress thus bridging
relationships. . . .

The 'ibo' nation would not move forward until we admit some bitter truths abi? That's the "bitter truth" according to the spawn of the murderous, conniving, double-dealing, back-stabbing enemy Ndigbo fought (bravely) for 3 good years abi? Abeg gimme a break!!!

You and a few others of your kind are always quick to dive in to try and douse the flames of passion and emotion that should rightly be kindled when we try to remember what our forbears went through and the sacrifices they made during the war. What are you afraid of huh huh? Could it be you're trying to silence (unsuccessfully) a little voice in your head telling you that some of your forbears actually participated in one of the worst acts of inhumanity against defenceless civilians, and in the process, may have condemned their lineage to generations of making reparations through BLOOD and misery? Could that be it?

You could never understand the "Ojukwu spirit" you speak of b'cos it has it's roots in the hearts of all true Igbo sons and daughters.
all ur rants still circles round the claim of millions of ibo suffering for the sins of a few, why did ibos not come out to condemn the senseless killings of innocent army men. Why didn't ironsi and Ojukwu act on the issue approriately.

Maybe u guys here r 2 blind to see. A war is not like a table tennis game where u serve and i serve if u survive we go on till one of us misses. After killing those northerners and southerners u dont expect them to pick up few easterners and kill in return.
Rather than asolve the problem at hand Ojukwu tried to break away to achive his life long dream.

U don't look back while driving forward, anyone who does is an accident waiting to happen.

Mr. Nwabobo get over these childish emotions pls, the ibo nation will only truly move forward when it admit some bitter truth about the mistakes in that war (starvation of ibo pple by the biafran millitary) and events that lead to it ( unprovoked killings of northern and western top army officials by ibos).
The ojukwu spirit is far from what ur thread here depicts, it is a one-man-for-himself-by-the-blood_of_his_people spirit, nothing more.

If i was in Awos shoe i wld av done same.
Reason: the ibo had already killed my kinsmen in the army w/out provocatn & swept the matter under the carpet , that alone had demonstrated their stance against the west (awo & his pple), even if awo was released by ojukwu it is just another strategy for creating a divide among d remaining of Nigeria and weaken them as well as rally support from the west knowing fully well that the so called biafran strength was diminishing fast and spelt outright victory 4 Nigeria.
Ojukwu is claiming respect 4 awo cos it all ended the way it did. I call him a smart fella for that one.

My verdict: the ibos r not to b trusted even till this day, they betray your trust and when things don't go right for them, they go after their next weak person to blame.
Ojukwu can claim what he would have done had the story been diff but we all know the actions he and his pple took.

The north is the true and old enemy of the ibos while the ibos r the enemy of the west (as 1966 massacre and the present day accusations has shown),  the west in return r no enemy to the ibos but will always have that unwarranted betrayal of 1966 from the ibos in mind, while the ND is mainly but not totally an enemy to itself.

A few men killed Archduke Ferdinand and that sent the whole world into World war 1.

A few Al Qaeda guys bombed America and the whole Iraq and Afghanistan was levelled

If the Ibo soldiers didnt kill other leaders and sparing theirs there wont be a pogrom

Moral of the story: If you dont train your children well, they might bring sorrow on the whole community

If those Ibo soldiers were smart enought to kill Zik and Okpara, there wont be a pogrom

Dayokanu please read your history very well. Igbo men  played a major role in killing Nzeogwu's coup. Ojukwu and Aguiyi Ironsi  and many Igbo officers worked against that coup and ensured it didn't succeed. Soldiers will be soldiers. The Igbo nation did not carry out any coup. When Dimka assasinated Murtala Muhammed, it was not the people of Jos that assasinated him. Igbos did not assasinate Sardauna, Balewa and others. A coup plot by a clique of soldiers did.  What happend was a scramble for Nigeria. Greed was at work - the idea was to displace the Igbos from the top echelons of the society in which they already occupied and assume control and ascendancy. It was all about OPPORTUNISM,  RESOURCE CONTROL AND GREED. Read '' The Man Died by Wole Soyinka''
