oyewolejos: Look u got nothing on me on this one.We all know the Economy of Canada is growing rapidly and Canada is open to all types of Immigrant legal or illegal. But babe, its not as easy as we put it,Canada is still way behind the US in terms of Education and quality of life.Even the weather in America is better than that of Canada.Canada is the second largest country in the world but a very few population to live inside.Like u know population moves the country forward.U can't just say because if u go to Canada u can get your papers in less than 6 months then rush to a conclusion that Canada is waaaay better,No.There are still some fundamental things that makes US a hot cake for greener pastures seeking immigrant. And u know that getting a Canadian Visa is like rocket science from Nigeria compared to the US visa. The two countries shares some similarities but US still stand way above Canada. Personally for me after US then Canada if am to choose. But who knows u might have a point so go ahead and lets share our views. We learn everyday Weather: Depends on where you live - in the 2 countries. I never said Canada was better cos of immigration. Going back to my original post, I talked about education. Again, I've experienced both and I'd say the quality of education in the US and Canada is is very similar. Welll, in my major it is. Same quality of education, why would anyone want to pay more? Like I said, if a person is in an Ivy League school, or one of the top 25 - it would make sense. Even in the top schools, it's not always about the education, but about the prestige. From my experience, the quality of life in Canada is better. In the USA, unless you're living up North (ND, SD, MN, etc), it's crazy. The weather is crappy but the cost of living is decent. There are still many jobs in most parts of Canada, the weather isn't all bad, decent cost of living(BC has a high cost of living compared to many provinces, but is as breath taking as can be), relatively safe cities, health care that works, what more would a person want? Yeah, like u said - we learn everyday. Anyways, I'm derailing the thread. This thread was about education in the USA, which I think is not really worth it!! |

Julia82: Hi,
can anyone here tell me what I need to know when travelling from Finland to Nigeria? Especially Lagos and Benin? Just wondering why you're travelling. Sorry, I know I should mind my business. But, I am kinda curious. Get a Nigerian visa. What would you do if you were travelling to New York? To give you an idea about Lagos . . . |

Rare: Also Hotstepper stated that int'l students are only allowed to work off-campus after one full academic year? But according to current inform on CIC website, you MAY be allowed to work after your first six months as a student. I believe every case is treated different. If your case is evaluated, and it appears that you're facing hard times economically, you may be allowed to work outside even before a year is up!! |

^ ^ ^ I wonder why people are so crazy about the USA? I really don't get it. Go to Canada, same quality of education; and you'll pay less. Besides, I've experienced both and Canada is waaaay better.
Unless you're attending an Ivy League school or another one way up, save your money and go to Canada. |

gongo aso: Why are you bent on creating a problem that doesn't exist in the first place at all? Sure you must have gone through this thread from A-Z. Have you read anywhere where anyone was asked to prove relationship with their sponsor? NO.
Go with your uncle's statements. IF you are asked who is sponsoring you, say. . .your uncle confidently and IF asked for his statements, present it with a letter stating he is your uncle and he will be responsible for you financially. SIMPLES.
No unnecessary explanation weda/wedant he attended your graduation or you had 147 guests Yeah, they only ask who will be sponsoring the applicant. You don't need to prove anything. How do you prove that? DNA tests, birth certificates, what? lol. |

Unless the rules have changed, I am not misleading anyone but speaking from personal experience. Same here, we got ours a few days after we arrived. That was ages ago, but we were PR then. I know someone who just arrived in Victoria last week, they got theirs 2 days after the arrived. |

Redman44: @saintchux,
You have taken the words out of my mouth. We need to realize that white people will always ask for your origins even if you were born in Europe or North America. They will always make references to the country of your parents when some issues come up. It is not as if they won't accept you as a British, Canadian or American Citizen, but there will always be talk about you being African or Carribean by origin. That's true. My geography professor from Trinidad always referred to me when talking about Africa cos I am quite familiar with him and he knows my heritage, etc. I find that kinda weird though cos although I'm more knowledgeable about Africa than the average American/Canadian; my knowledge is still very limited. |
Culture › Re: How Do You Define A Nigerian? by shilling(f): 7:39pm On Jul 16, 2010 |
Well, same scenario with me. Some of the Nigerians at school call me a "fake Nigerian", wth?!! Cos I don't act "Nigerian". What does it mean to act Nigerian for crying out loud.
I go to Nigeria almost every year. I even have my green passport lol - which I use in Nigeria. Some Nigerians see me as Nigerian, some don't. I don't care. I see myself as Nigerian, I don't speak my mum or dad's language, but at least I speak/understand pidgin. Even if I didn't understand pidgin or any other NG language, I'll still be proudly Nigerian.
I feel I'm more Nigerian than the 419 people out there ruining Nigeria's image cos that's not what being Nigerian is about (if that makes any sense). |
