The family of late Sylvester Oromoni Jnr, the 12-year-old student of Dowen College, Lagos State, who was allegedly tortured by some senior students of the school for refusing to be initiated into a cult, has reacted to the bail granted by a Magistrate’s court in Yaba to the arrested suspects.

Speaking to journalists, the father of the deceased student, Sylvester Oromoni Snr, questioned the reason behind the bail granted when the initial 21 days requested by the police for investigation has not yet elapsed.

According to him, the same court had granted the police 21-days to keep the suspects in their custody pending when they will be done with their investigations, and it was meant to have elapsed on December 28, but he was shocked to read in the news that the suspects had been granted bail by the same judge who approved the remand order.

He explained that the police said they were not done with the investigation, and they were planning on requesting for a remand extension, but granting the suspects bail will impede the ongoing investigation, as they are getting more facts on the case.

The distraught father called on President Muhammadu Buhari, the Lagos State Government, and the Inspector General of Police to look into the matter so that justice can prevail.

Education / Family Of Detained Female Soldier Proposed To By Male Corper Finally Opens Up by Sigggy: 7:21pm On Dec 25, 2021
Update from SIGGY .ng

The family of the NYSC member who proposed to a female soldier in camp has finally opened up, saying the duo met 3 years before the proposal, Siggy reports.

According to the family member, Remi and Akinlabi’s friendship started in Abeokuta over three years ago before the latter joined the military.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity because of the nature of the matter, the close family member of the corps member narrated that they had lost each other’s contact, but was surprisingly brought together by fate at the NYSC camp late November.

He said, “They have known each other before they got to camp. They met in Abeokuta over three years ago before she joined the Army but lost contact some time ago. Meeting at NYSC camp was like a reunion.

“They have been friends all along and Remi thought it wise to seize the opportunity of their meeting again to propose to her. He had to walk up to her as a man and not worry about her new status as a soldier because she would eventually get married.

“He got the courage and proposed to her out with a ring which she accepted. The whole thing was totally a surprise to her.

“It happened after the passing out parade on December 14, 2021. She was at the Mammy Market pressing her phone, she was just on her own and she never knew something of such would happen.

“When he walked up to her, she was over joyous and dumbfounded at the same time. She is a lady and her reactions were triggered by emotions. Like men, women are still emotional beings no matter who they are.

“Remi was not holding any phone and did not record the moment. He didn’t post anything on social media and she didn’t also post it on social media. It was the fellow corpers around that did the posting on social media.”

Asked why Remi preferred Akinlabi, who is a soldier, the family source said, “He can’t explain his love for her because they so connected emotionally when they met again and he believes it is true love.”

Education / Meet The Man Who Invented Exam And His Reason For The Invention by Sigggy: 4:46pm On Dec 24, 2021
Update from SIGGY .ng

Exams can be really annoying right? Have you been wondering who actually invented this examination? We present to you Henry Fischel, the Professor who Invented Exams. He invented examinations.

According to historical reports, he invented examinations to test his students academically during the 19th Century.

When he was a professor at the University of Indiana, he always saw lenient students who believed that after the end of the year, they will pass to the next class without evaluation. He wanted to know whether what the students were taught was a mere waste of executive time.

Also, he yearned to recognize whether the students are studying properly or not.

These concerns were the justifications why he concluded to formulate an exam to review his students’ aptitude.

Meanwhile, we can deduce that he did the best thing. Nowadays, students are wondering why they have to write exams, read, memorize, and in the same vein, rewrite what they have read in a book. Most students are tired of the examination system.

Unfortunately, an examination is presently a contest of grades, which lure most students into examination malpractice.

He said the measure was to avoid a repeat of what happened in Tegina where Islamiyyh pupils were abducted.

“The decision to close the schools was as a result of banditry activities in the local government.

“The security agencies brought to my notice and even that of the governor that they have intercepted communication on a plan to abduct school children in my local government.

“And the communication they intercepted particularly pointed to Zungeru as the area of the planned attack.

“Although yesterday (Saturday), I was told that the kingpin had been arrested. The communication was highly classified. But they intercepted that communication and even the time that they were going to strike.

“So, it was duty-bound for us as representative of the people, we sat down myself in my capacity as the council chairman, the security agencies and we resolved that proactive measure should be taken before any damage is done.

“We wouldn’t want what happened in Tegina to repeat itself. So, we closed down even private schools,” the council chairman said.

He, however, noted that: “We know the inconveniences considering the importance of education, especially now that schools were about to write their promotion examinations. But having analysed that particular threat, we believed it was better for us to close the schools temporarily to allow security operatives to continue to conduct their operations because we don’t know when they will strike because they even said they will strike in the afternoon, about 300 of them will strike precisely at 4pm.

“For bandits to tell you that they will strike in broad daylight, that tells you the magnitude and the number at which they will enter Zungeru and overwhelm everybody. So, we are trying to avoid what happened in Tegina.”

Nalango said Zungeru in particular had been threatened by bandits in recent times.

One of the incidents was the abduction of the Permanent Secretary, Niger State Ministry of Transport, Siggy reports.

While pointing out that “no school is safe in Zungeru, they can enter anywhere,” he said the schools would be reopened if the security situation in the area improves, and appeal to parents and school proprietors for understanding.
