Sermwell:yes, Osayuki was instrumental to my being appointed a Juror representing my faculty at the recently constituted SUG Court which Enogieru became CJ |
I can see my UNIBEN peeps fully represented, am neither a member of the bar and bench nor an aspirant but a friend of the profession. Have quite a number of friends and acquaintance in faculty of LAW Uniben from OSayuki King to Enogieru Michael and host of others. Rep ping UNIBEST College of Medical Sciences. Am out before the learned colleagues sue me for trespassing . |
Northerners are so blinded by their illiteracy the they see nothing wrong in this. Akwa Ibom state which contributes a sizeable portion of the revenue been shared has just 1bn!!!! In allocation, remove Delta, rivers and Akwa Ibom and FG will be damn broke.. and someone is saying Kano landmass or population with 50% almajiris that contribute nothing to FG is a criteria for the unexplainable billions alllocated to it. Let south south form their own Republic and watch how the North will become Somalia in 6months |
I wish Deltans will be brave enough to do same, suffering from one bad leader to another. A state among the highest earning from the Federal allocation and IGR yet everything seems to be on a standstill, since James IBori who was a thief but still developed the stae left nothing tangible has been done.. |
Irenemmeso:both are difficult and can be adjudged to be at the same level. Some pharmacists cum medical doctors when asked this will say their pharmacy progrmame was more difficult but it is usually due to the fact that they have already passed through pharmacy so medicine wouldn't be as difficult as it seems to someone who is just fresh into the medical field. So there is no standard yardstick to judge the too, medicine is more broader and voluminous but pharmacy more complex and technical. |
Advise to all aspirants, Nigeria is still a f××ked up nation with little or no place for the pure biological sciences plus the basic medical sciences (anatomy, physiology and medbch ) except for those planning to return as lecturers or go into general sector like finance which absorbs anyone with a degree but if you want to pursue a carrer in your field of undergraduate study better take up professional medical courses (medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, medlab, nursing, physiotherapy, radiography and optometry ). I almost opted for Microbiology without any knowledge of what it entails but later changed through the advice of someone, Do your research very well before taking any decision. |
Biochemistry is difficult but doesn't come close to pharmacy, many biochemistry student who are taking pharmacy as second degree will attest to that. Biochemistry is a major component of pharmacy, is like comparing anatomy to medicine, anatomy is a fractional part of medicine, you can't say a state is bigger than the country which it is part of.. Bch is like northern part of Nigeria while adding the southern states makes it pharmacy. Is like when Microbiology student think they are at par with medlab forgetting they did just a fraction of what medlab entails |
STD CHECKER? Wtf, where did you see job description for any hospital personnel as an STD checker, you only have Medlab scientist or technicians who carry out patient investigation abeg there is no place that trains a person to be an STD checker. Lol |
Going for Microbiology so that you can study medicine in postgraduate are incompatible, medicine can only be taken as a second degree if you study microbiology and not as a postgraduate programme. there is nothing like "masters in medicine " you only have masters in fields of medicine such as chempath, haematology etc for those venturing into lecturing otherwise residency progrmame ( those training to be a specialist ) in a branch of medicine like radiology, paediatrics, opthalmology etc If you want to study medicine go for it, if you want Microbiology do same you have wonderful fields of Microbiology, those in brewing, food technology, etc but medical Microbiology is for those in medicine or medlab. Make the right decision don't make mistakes acting on ignorance. Always use Google it helps alot. Microbiology is a 4yr course in the university and no programme is hard or easy it depends on individual ability and level of commitment, if you are not good in chemistry and biology then you have no business with any biological or health science course in the first place. Even Buhari's daughter is studying Microbiology in UK .. We lack career counsellors in our secondary schools in Nigeria and a lot of young folks end up opting for what they know nothing about By the way am neither a microbiologist nor a student of Microbiology just the little I know I have offered, you can always google more info |
You are highly welcome to this noble profession, first your 100 level courses depending on your institution will be basically advanced O level courses, physics,Chemistry, mathematics, botany and zoology then General studies ( content varies from one university to another ) Then in your 200level that is when you start the journey proper, you will be taking courses in anatomy, physiology and Biochemistry and introductory medlab courses, at this stage proper and adequate studies are required because anatomy courses (gross, embryology, histology ) plus numerous biochemistry pathways are not a child's play , physiology is quite easier to some extent. With proper and adequate planning you should scale through unscathed. 300 level is when you move to the department fully and also your clinical lab posting starts in the teaching hospital, 400 level you write your first professional exam end of the session which you must attain 50% cumulative score to move to final year , the professional exam consist of MCQ ( 600 and above in less than 1hr ), practical in all fields (histopath, clinical chem, Haematology, Parasitology, medmicro etc) and finally the Almighty Viva (oral exam) , students who attain the benchmark cross to the final year while those who are unable to repeat the level irrespective of all other courses passed. 500 level is the terminal year with project and final professional exam in 2nd semester which is same pattern with the 1st except the student will only take the exam for his or her specialty ( you are require to specialise either in histopath, chempath, haematology or Microbiology in final year and your posting will be to only your specialty in final year).. I guess I have been able to give a concise breakdown of the department to you, by the way am still a student just crossed to penultimate year. |
By the way don't tell me they were protesting for robbery in an off campus hostel, University cannot provide security outside the campus which they have little or no control over. Students are robbed daily in BDPA, Ekosodin and Osasogie in Uniben but the school will always tell you they don't have any business with hostels that are not owned by the institution |
Peaceful protest in Nigerian tertiary institutions will be difficult because the protest will always be hijacked by cultist, hoodlums, and other miscreants who see it as opportunity to carry out their evil intentions in the cover of protest. And the Nigerian police men who lack the most basic training in riot control will always end up escalating issue shooting live ammunition to disperse protesters as if they are armed bandits resulting in a free for all fight. From Uniben to Uniport to OAU, the result is always the same.. |
No bank in Nigeria will give you more than 12% on your fixed deposit per annum, fixed deposit rate is always lower than treasury bills and treasury bills have never exceeded 13% you can check the tbill thread for recent %.. buy a genuine plot of land with 700k and use the remaining to do a dwarf fence in a developing area, leave it for a year and sell it, you should have nothing less than 30%ROI |
Nice one OP but next time include your source to avoid plagiarism case. Cause it is definitely not nigerian from the write up |
crusadistic:You are trying to cure an ailment by treating the symptom instead of the underlying cause, first find out the actual reason for your low academic performance, a lot of things could be the cause: emotional, family issues, etc. If you are not the shy type visit the guidance and counselling dept, trust me just some advice may be all that is required. Transferring to maths may seem a way out to you but mathematics ain't beans, I doubt anyone that couldn't survive engineering will survive there.. just my 2cents |

Kenneth Imasuagbon essay has stood the test of time, I wrote last year although I did not come out among the winners, my colleague did and got the IPad he is using today at the award ceremony here in Uniben Auditorium.. Am sure they will release the results very soon. |
pxjosh:take a chill pill, the issue won't be more than the PharmD case that has been a bone of contention between PCN and NUC.. The worst that could happen is that uniben won't admit new students until they sort out the issue. No department has ever stopped academic programme because they lost accreditation, they only suspend new intake. Uniben pharmacy is one of the best in the country, powers from on high don't want the PharmD programme to run that's all. Uniben has over 75 departments and only 2 had issue, they deserve commendation, UNIABUJA should just be shutdown, almost all the departments don't have accreditation |
Op has the typical myopic and stereotyped view of these professions, if no one study the courses mentioned then our economy will cease to exist. You can hardly see an unemployed doctor, there is only underemployment In healthcare sector, I bet you no graduate of med, pharm, nursing, optometry, medlab will spend six months post Nysc without been employed.. Accounting is a vast profession form taxation to Audit to banking, a graduate of accounting that knows what he is doing should not have problem getting employment in fact shortage of accountant has made many institutions to employ graduates of other field with certification in Accounting (ACCA, ICAN, CFA etc ) I will agree with you to some extent with engineering because of lack of industrialization in the country, just open two standard engineering corporation in each state and you will be shocked that they will mop up the graduates roaming around but those that hit it in engineering hit it real big.. Lack of industries is the problem with engineering. As per law, the simple demand and supply curve is taking its toll, universities are producing far more than the demand in the labour market, a professional course is meant to be strictly monitored both in admission and otherwise., that's why medical courses don't admit above quota given, to checkmate producing too much graduates when facilities to employ them are not there..and lawyers don't retire early, in fact the advanced ones are the desired for experience sake... |
JohnieWalker:hehehe them open account for your head ni |
Nice one.. first policy that CBN has taken in recent times that will benefit the common man. Modified : don't know why all the fuss about ftc but it feels good in a way sha.. JohnieWalker:Don't mind the ignorant ones.. even the dreaded ekosodin, they don't just kill an innocent fellow for no reason.. This happened in broad daylight, hit and run.. The guy was their target, even his friend on fbk confirmed rival group killed him |
