LiteratureRe: Selfish And Heartless by sino(op): 7:48pm On May 26, 2013
Ade was puzzled with Chidi’s statement, even with the 150,000 naira he had given to him, still, he couldn’t think of any other thing than his words about him being selfish and heartless.
“How can that be?” he asked himself, “why in the world would i be the one selfish, not to even mention heartless, i havn't done anything wrong”. "It is either chidi wanted to ridicule me or is he really saying the truth?" he thought, "either ways, i don’t care jare".

Ade readjusted himself at the back seat of the commercial bus he had boarded after Chidi had dropped him off at Costain bus stop, Chidi had said he needed to attend to some pressing matters, so their discussion was truncated and he couldn’t drive him home. He pleaded with him not to take offence and offered him some money to take care of his needs for the time being, he told him he was still much around and he shouldn't hesitate to contact him anytime. Ade would have preferred for him to take him home, if not for anything other than to impress his nosy neighbors or to reassure Yemisi that things are now going on well with him and his friend.

There was an annoying rattling and jangling sound as the jalopy bus plunged into gallops which jolted Ade, he fumed and complained about the bad roads, 'is this also his own fault or that of the useless politicians who only think of themselves and no one else', he said to himself, thinking aloud.

Ade waved off his friends words, and tried to concentrate on how to religiously spend the money he gave him, how thoughtful of him he reasoned, he realized how in total ignominy he would have been if his friend hadn’t come around, 'he is really a life saver' he thought, 'thank God for Chidi' he said exhaling loudly.

He caught himself thanking God, he had almost lost faith in God these past few years, for him to have made such expression rummage his entire mind, he inadvertently remembered his friend’s words, 'there is always a reason to be thankful', he smiled as he thought 'indeed, today, there is a reason to be thankful'.

Ade began to think about where he should go, looking at the time, it was past 4pm, "the landlord’s place should be my first point of call", he knows the man goes nowhere, he his always playing draft in front of his compound, which is adjacent to where Ade stays, he plays with other landlords like him, pensioned or jobless, ogogoro/opa eyin drinkers and pool players, they are grossly irresponsible, they hardly take care of their family but readily spend more on concubines.

Ade branched a supermarket to get a bottle of wine, if he was to play his cards right, he knew his landlord merely sighting a bottle that looks like that of a wine or gin, would be excited.

He got to the compound, and as predicted the landlord was on a row, trashing his opponent, pa Joseph, the man was obviously in a good mood, as he and pa Joseph were extreme rivals when it come to playing draft. “mo ti no e legba, (I’ve thoroughly beaten you), mo ti je lo gbe. (I’m victorious already)” pa Joseph was just silent, anger fully written on his face, and his friend's mocking was aggravating it. There were little children playing around the compound, and two girls, sat on a bench, studying.
“e ku irole sir good evening sir” Ade said, stooping slightly, unlike his total prostration the other day, now he had money in his pocket, he felt big.
“ku role omo mi dada, good evening my good son” on seeing what Ade was holding, the landlord enthusiastically replied.

Ade chuckled, 'his good son?!' he thought, "the one he wanted to send packing in disgrace?"
“Sir, I was just returning from a friends’ place, and saw this special wine and thought you might like it” Ade said handing over the wine to the landlord
“wonderful my son!” the landlord exclaimed examining the wine, he didn’t care if it was grape, red or white wine, as long as its in a fancy bottle, and looks international. He has been given a great gift.
“And sir, Ade continued, I also want to apologize for the delay in payment of the house rent, I had invested the money and …”

“Don’t worry my son, I know you, and I trust you, you are unlike those my useless tenants that like owing me”
“imagine erm, lawreance or whatever he calls himself, he his owing me six months’ rent, and I saw him fixing a new aerial this morning, if I go to court now he’ll say the landlord is wicked” “I’m I wicked?” he asked Ade gesturing his hands

“Sir, not at all, in fact, you are very understanding” Ade replied with a sneer.
Ade quickly handed him the money for house rent, 24,000 naira, the landlord had always preferred payment made to him directly, he was the landlord, lawyer and caretaker, 3in1. “Sir, this is what I owe and I’m paying six month up front too”

The landlord broke into an hysterical laughter, he collected the money so quickly more like snatching it, and counted it immediately, the notes were crisp in 500 denomination, he tucked it into his agbada and said to his friend pa Joseph,
“You see, this is what I’m saying, he’s a very good boy, he never fails me, Ade, omo ni”
His friend basically nods his head in agreement, he was more interested in the draft game, and he wants to quickly overturn the winning streak his friend was having.

Ade wasn’t surprised at all, his landlord only praises the tenant that comes to pay his or her rent, and to even pay up front is like winning a jackpot with him.

Ade’s attention shifted towards the girls who were looking burnt out, one was still holding a paper that looked like a past
Poems For ReviewBoko Haram's End by sino(op):
KABOOM! KABOOM! KABOOM!
The bombs blow…
RATATA! RATATATA! RATATATATA!
The Guns bellow…
The screams, the tears, the blood that flows…
The pain, the anguish, the loss that follows…

They claim human yet barbaric.
They claim faith yet satanic.

They’ve painted Muslims black, Islam red.
They’ve made the nation insecure and the people feared.

I ask myself, when will all these end?

As I put on my uniform ready for school
The rising sun, shining, brightening my room
Igniting in me, hope, a solution coming
soon
Indeed, there is light at the end of this catastrophic gloom.

If only our leaders would have us in their plan...

Provide education for the common man
Build roads and hospitals, develop our land
Create jobs for the youths with idle hand
So they are reformed, fit to be called human

IslamRe: Things Muslim Communities Can Do To Curb Extremism by sino(m): 9:54am On May 24, 2013
I do agree with this article, and this would go a long way in curbing extremism amongst youths. Islam is easy, Allah(SWT) described us as the balanced nation, extremism has no place in the religion, it's bid'ah.

The youths are always the target, and things have really gone so complicated nowadays that only Allah(SWT) can help us out of this present quagmire.

Although i do strongly hold the opinion that the external factors are fueling this too, but i believe when we continue to enlighten people, they will be exposed In shaa Allah.

Hallie27: I would like to know the rules guiding the use of sutrah during salat, what can be used as sutrah, etc. Can someone put an object in front of him as sutrah while his salat is already in progress, like bending to pull an object by your side to your front while already praying? Thanks
In regards to the bolded, actions which are not part of solat, nullifys the solat, except for actions in cases of necessity such as killing or removing harmful things whic can cause distractions, after which one resumes prayer.

In the light of this, i'll also want to think it permissible, if one fears that he can be interrupted/distracted or his prayers can be invalidated, perhaps one is praying in a common room or an open space, which involves people moving around, to put something as a sutrah even while praying. Another similar case is the mobile phone, which scholars have agreed that it can be switched off even while praying because it causes distractions.
Allah knows best.
IslamRe: Rules Guiding The Use Of Sutrah During Salat by sino(m): 8:50am On May 24, 2013
I have read the fatwas on your website regarding the sutrah and I am still confused about the following two items:
a. In terms of height or width, what is the minimum that will be accepted as a sutrah?
b. What is closest and farthest distance can one stand from the sutrah when praying?.

Praise be to Allaah.

It is mustahabb for the imam and the one who is praying alone to pray facing a sutrah, because of the report narrated by Abu Dawood (598) from Abu Sa‘eed al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “When one of you prays, let him pray facing a sutrah and let him draw close to it.” Shaykh al-Albaani (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Its isnaad is hasan saheeh. It says in al-Mawsoo‘ah al-Fiqhiyyah (24/177): It is Sunnah for the worshipper, if he is praying alone or as an imam, to have a sutrah in front of him that will prevent people from walking in front of him, and to enable him to focus properly on the actions of the prayer. That is because of the report narrated by Abu Sa‘eed al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “When one of you prays, let him pray facing a sutrah and let him draw close to it and not let anyone pass in front of him.” And because he (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Let one of you use a sutrah when praying, even if it is an arrow.” In the case of one who is praying behind an imam, it is not mustahabb for him to use a sutrah according to scholarly consensus, because the sutrah of the imam is the sutrah of the one who is praying behind him, or because the imam is a sutrah for him. End quote.

Secondly: The Sunnah is for the worshipper to use something standing as a sutrah, and it is better if it is the height of the back of a saddle or more, because of the report narrated by Muslim (771) from ‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) who said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) was asked about the sutrah for one who is praying and he said: “Like the back of a saddle.” Narrated by Muslim (771). Al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: In this hadeeth it is recommended to have a sutrah in front of the one who is praying, and it explains that the minimum sutrah is the back of a saddle, which is the length of the forearm, or approximately two thirds of a cubit. This purpose may be served by anything that he sets up in front of him. End quote from Sharh Muslim by al-Nawawi, 4/216 Ibn Qudaamah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: With regard to whether it should be thick or thin, there is no definition that we are aware of. It may be thin like an arrow or a spear, or it may be thick like a wall. The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) used to use a short spear as a sutrah. Abu Sa‘eed said: We used to use an arrow or a rock as a sutrah for prayer. And it was narrated from Saburah that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Use a sutrah for prayer even if it is an arrow.” Narrated by al- Athram. Al-Awzaa‘i said: An arrow or a whip is sufficient. Ahmad said: And what is broader than that is preferable to me. That is because the words “even if it is an arrow” indicate that something else is more appropriate than it. End quote from al-Mughni, 2/38 Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about the size of the sutrah for one who is praying. He replied: The best sutrah that a person puts when he prays is the height of the back of a saddle, approximately two-thirds of a cubit, but if it is less than that, it does not matter; even if it is an arrow or a stick, it is acceptable. End quote from Majmoo‘ Fataawa Ibn ‘Uthaymeen, 13/326

Thirdly: The Sunnah is for the worshipper to stand close to his sutrah, so that he can stop anyone who tries to walk in front of him, because of the report narrated by Abu Dawood (695) from Sahl ibn Abi Hathmah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) who said: “When one of you prays facing a sutrah, let him draw close to it so that the Shaytaan will not interrupt his prayer.” Classed as hasan by Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr in al-Tamheed (4/195); classed as saheeh by al-Nawawi in al-Majmoo ‘ (4/195) and by al- Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood. The scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) differed concerning the distance and from where it should be measured. Some of them said that the distance is three cubits from the feet of the one who is praying, because the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) prayed in the Ka‘bah with three cubits between him and the wall. Narrated by al-Bukhaari (506). This is the view of the Hanafis, Shaafa‘is and Hanbalis, and it is what may be understood from the words of Maalik, because the distance between the one who is praying and the sutrah should be as much as he needs to stand, bow and prostrate. See: al-Mawsoo‘ah al-Fiqhiyyah (24/184). Others were of the view that the distance should be sufficient to allow a sheep to pass, from the place where the worshipper prostrates, because of the report narrated by al-Bukhaari (474) and Muslim (508) from Sahl ibn Sa‘d (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: Between the place where the Messenger of Allaah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) prayed and the wall there was a space where a sheep could pass. Al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: In the hadeeth, Between the place where the Messenger of Allaah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) prayed and the wall there was a space where a sheep could pass, what is meant by the place where he prayed is the place where he prostrated. This indicates that the Sunnah is for the one who is praying to be close to his sutrah. End quote.
Some scholars reconcile between the hadeeth of Ibn ‘Umar and that of Sahl ibn Sa‘d (may Allah be pleased with them both) by interpreting the hadeeth of Ibn ‘Umar, which mentions three cubits, as applying when the worshipper is standing, and the hadeeth of Sahl, which mentions a space where a sheep could pass, as applying when the worshipper is prostrating. End quote.
And Allah knows best.
IslamRe: Rules Guiding The Use Of Sutrah During Salat by sino(m): 8:11am On May 24, 2013
Is the reward for prayer reduced by half if
one does not have a sutrah?

Is there a hadeeth which says that praying
without a sutrah reduces the (reward for)
the prayer to half?
If there is such a hadeeth, please tell me the
name of the narrator and who transmitted
it.
Praise be to Allaah.
We have not found any hadeeth from the
Prophet (blessings and peace of Allaah be
upon him) to suggest that the reward for a
prayer offered without a sutrah in front of
the worshipper is reduced by half. It is most
likely that this is the opinion reached by one
of the scholars. Many hadeeths have been
narrated enjoining use of a sutrah and
praying facing towards it, and warning
against the shaytaan interrupting the
prayer if one prays without a sutrah.
It was narrated from Sahl ibn Abi Hathmah
that the Prophet (blessings and peace of
Allaah be upon him) said: “If one of you
prays facing a sutrah, let him draw close to
it and not let the shaytaan interrupt his
prayer.”
Narrated by Abu Dawood (number 695);
classed as hasan by Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr in al-
Tamheed (4/1505); classed as saheeh by al-
Nawawi in al-Majmoo’ (3/244); classed as
saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi
Dawood.
Al-Azeemabaadi (may Allaah have mercy on
him) says:
i.e., so he will not be distracted by whispers
from the shaytaan. It may be understood
from this that the sutrah prevents the
shaytaan from taking over the worshipper
and instilling his whispers into his heart,
either completely or partially, according to
the worshipper's sincerity and his focusing
and turning to Allaah in his prayer. If there
is no sutrah then the shaytaan can cause
him to fail to pray with proper focus and
humility. End quote.
‘Awn al-Ma’bood (2/275).
Perhaps the one who said that the reward
for prayer of one who prays without a
sutrah is reduced was referring to this
meaning, especially if someone walks in
front of him and interrupts his prayer. In
that case the one who walks in front of him
is sinning and the one who was praying is
affected by the distraction from his prayer
because of his shortcoming.
Ibn Hajar al-Haytami (may Allaah have
mercy on him) said:
It may be understood as referring to
interruption of the prayer by someone
walking in front of him and distracting him,
which is mentioned in the hadeeths:
interruption of khushoo’ (proper focus) and
the harm resulting from being distracted by
the one who walks in front, and the
shaytaan being able to get control of him
by whispering and distracting him from
what he is doing so that he does not
understand anything of his prayer or
anything except a little, so he misses out on
the reward. All of that is what is referred to
in the hadeeth in which the Prophet
(blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him)
says: “and not let the shaytaan interrupt his
prayer”
Al-Fataawa al-Fiqhiyyah al-Kubra (1/170)
This also explains what was narrated from
Ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with
him) when he said:
If anyone wants to walk in front of you
when you are praying, do not let him, for
he will make you lose half of your prayer.
End quote
al-Musannaf (2/25) with an isnaad which
includes a unknown narrator.
It is also the meaning of what was said by
some of the salaf such as Abu Ishaaq and
Yahya ibn Abi Katheer, that it is not
appropriate to pray without a sutrah. This
was narrated by Ibn al-Mundhir in al-Awsat
(no. 2395), and a similar meaning is found
in a report narrated by ‘Abd al-Razzaaq in al-
Musannaf (2/26), Bab man salla ila ghayri
sutrah.
Whatever the case, the scholars are agreed
that prayer without a sutrah is still valid,
even though the reward for it is less than
that of one who prays facing a sutrah. But
there is no report which indicates that this
detraction is as much as half of the reward.
Ibn Hajar al-Haytami (may Allaah have
mercy on him) said:
If a person prays without a sutrah when he
is able to do so, there is no difference of
opinion concerning the fact that his prayer
is valid.
Al-Fataawa al-Fiqhiyyah al-Kubra (1/160).
What is meant is that the scholars are
unanimously agreed that his prayer is valid.

And Allaah knows best.
IslamRe: Rules Guiding The Use Of Sutrah During Salat by sino(m):
Assalam alaykum sis, this is from islamqa.info, i believe it addresses some of your queries

What is the ruling on the sutrah [object
serving as a screen for one who is
praying]? If a dog, woman or donkey walks
in front of one, does that invalidate one's
prayer? What do we say concerning the
words of ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased
with her), when she said: “Are you
including us along with dogs and
donkeys?”?.

Praise be to Allaah.
The sutrah is a confirmed Sunnah (Sunnah
mu’akkadah). The Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“When one of you prays, let him pray
facing a sutrah, and let him draw close to
it.” Narrated by Abu Dawood with a jayyid
isnaad. When the Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) travelled,
he would take with him a short piece of
wood and pray facing it. It is a confirmed
Sunnah but it is not obligatory, because it is
proven that on some occasions, he (peace
and blessings of Allaah be upon him)
prayed without a sutrah.

With regard to that which invalidates the
prayer, it is a donkey, a black dog, and an
adult woman, because the Prophet (peace
and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“The prayer of a Muslim man is invalidated
if he does not have in front of him
something like the back of a saddle, by (the
passage in front of him of) a woman, a
donkey or a black dog.” Narrated by Muslim
in his Saheeh from the hadeeth of Abu
Dharr (may Allaah be pleased with him).
Muslim also narrated it from Abu Hurayrah
(may Allaah be pleased with him), without
mentioning the word black. The basic
principle is that a general statement is to be
interpreted in terms of the specific
statement. In the hadeeth of Ibn ‘Abbaas it
says “A woman who menstruates” i.e., an
adult woman. The correct view is that which
is indicated by the hadeeth: that these three
invalidate the prayer.
With regard to the words of ‘Aa’ishah (may
Allaah be pleased with her), they are her
own opinion and conclusion. She said:
“What a bad thing to liken us to donkeys
and dogs.” She said that she used to lie in
front of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) when he
was praying, but that is not passing in
front, because lying is not called passing .

The Sunnah concerning that was not known
to her, and the one who learns something is
a proof against the one who is unaware of
it. If a person prays facing someone who is
opposite him, sitting or lying down, that
does not affect him. Rather what invalidates
the prayer is if it passes in front of him
from one side to another, if the one who
passes is front is one of the three
mentioned and passes in front of him, or
between him and the sutrah. If the female is
young and has not reached the age of
puberty, or the dog is not black, or
something such as a camel or sheep and the
like passes in front, then none of these
invalidate the prayer. But it is prescribed for
the one who is praying not to let anything
pass in front of him, even if it does not
invalidate the prayer, because of the
hadeeth of Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri (may Allaah
be pleased with him), which says that the
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be
upon him) said: “If one of you prays facing
something that is screening him from the
people, and someone wants to pass
[directly] in front of him, let him push him
away, and if he insists then let him fight
him, for he is a devil.” Saheeh – agreed
upon.

datarex: Thank you; I lived in Maiduguri for years until recently. I speak a little kanuri and understand the language. You see, I know what I am saying. People (not all though but a majority) there shield BH and believe GEJ deserves what he gets from them. Until you walk the streets of Maiduguri and mingle with the people there, please don't compare the level of acceptance of BH in maiduguri to that of criminals elsewhere. You also need to refer to revelations by COAS on moles in the military. They are all related.

I totally agree with you. I have a very close friend, who is from Maiduguri, he has this acute support for the BH boys saying that the mayhem is exactly what the government deserves. I'm also inclined to think that most Northerners are "enjoying" the crisis as it's given the federal government sensitive issues to grapple with as well as to discomfit and unsettle central government's resolve.
How would people whose community is being destroyed "enjoy" this mayhem? From what i have learnt so far, the people of bornu are tired of this crisis and they want peace to return, isnt the slogan of the state home of peace?

BH is a group feared by ordinary people of maiduguri and environs, they are scared of BH than JTF, and that is the truth.

According to an indigene, Before the SOE, BH would attack and you would see soldiers running, if you don't believe at least from recent reports, BH were controlling some part of Bornu.

Another issue is the case of excesses of the JTF, after an attack, they come shooting sporadically and arrest everbody and anybody.
I learnt of a man who was brave enough to inform JTF of an AK47 dropped in his house after an attack by BH, he was arrested and turtured severely and later released. Tell me, when next such a man sees BH, would he report?

All these people shouting, they are habouring them, when ordinary armed robbers come, na under bed them go go hide o. Smh

What i think needs to be done is to restore faith of the Nigerian security agencies in the people, which i believe the SOE can achieve, and that our security personnel should always be professional in handling this crisis.

Chidi was curiously deep into some documents he found on his table, he wouldn't have given much attention to them, but he was waiting for food to be brought, he could see how Ade's reaction changed on mentioning food, as the saying goes, “a hungry man is an angry man”, he'll rather want him on a full stomach before having a discussion with him.

Ade busied himself by glancing through magazines stacked under the glass table, he looked through ovation and then city people, they were just typical information about the rich and famous, and how the rich were spending their monies. The rich read them to compete, and the poor, if ever they lay their hands on them, read it to complain and condemn.

Ade, caught himself dreaming again, that was a little bit strange, cos earlier in the day, he was down casted and despondent, maybe the Chidi office is getting to him, he feels so comfortable in it, a glimmer of hope he felt back at the bus stop came back again, he reminded himself, 'when there is life, there is hope'.

Looking at pictures from a wedding of the daughter of one of the country's billionaire, he couldn't help but fantasize his own wedding with Yemisi, a proper wedding with sufficient attendees, not the ‘wuruwuru’ he did at the registry, if he had money, it would have been a big wedding, with much razzmatazz, and honeymoon in Paris, “ha!” He exclaimed, “That is the life.”

The Clark came holding two nylon bags, Mr. Biggs boldly written on them. As soon as it was placed in front of him, he wasted no time dealing with the contents judiciously; it was fried rice and chicken, his favorite. He was cracking and chewing the bones of the chicken with eyes closed, savoring the taste, the bones were so incredulously soft, only to be interrupted by Chidi

'Er ehm”, he cleared his throat, “i see you enjoying your meal Ade' he said”, smiling mischievously

Ade dropped the bone in his hand into the disposable food pack; he looked straight into Chidi's eyes and smiled,
'Yeah, i did, it was nice, thank you very much' he replied

Chidi wasn't surprised at his reaction, he had guessed right, Ade was really hungry and this simple gesture of his had melted his heart towards him for the time being. 'This is the right time to discuss' he thought.

He sat down on the sofa directly in front of Ade, he looked at his friend intently, and sensed a big gloom behind his eyes that once sparked enthusiasm whenever he was in front of the class, teaching tutorials, such sadness he saw was weakening, he almost wanted not to ask any question but just help him out of his misery.

'Ade, what is the problem, what happened to you?' Chidi asked, regardless, he needed insight into his story, what had happened to him after he had left him in the country for Europe.

He remembered he left him doing fine with his bank job, things were going on for him, he was married and had a decent apartment although he knew about the little drama that ensued between Ade and his in-laws, what could have caused this disheartening vibes he's getting from his most respected friend.

Ade told his story, everything without hiding any piece of information, this might be his last hope, and what is the use of ego or anger when there is absolutely nothing to your name. He told him how he had been duped and that was the peak of his misfortunes, he has nothing, he was nothing.

Listening attentively as he unveiled his travails, Chidi couldn’t help but think about how Ade was very instrumental to his success story, for him to have graduated with a 2-1 was due to him, he never gave up on him, even after he himself had dismissed the thought of making such a grade from the university.

He felt sad about the whole thing, and felt pity for Ade, he realized why he acted the way he did at his place, he was a victim of circumstances. Thereafter, he felt the need to explain his own side of the story, he needed to tell him why he didn't reply him on time when he called him for help, he had switched lines, cos some fraudulent people were disturbing him, when he switched back to the line, he got all his messages, but it was too late, he also got the message about the death of his baby.

Chidi felt sorry, he pleaded with Ade to take heart and told him everything had happened for a reason and a lesson to be learnt, and moreover, there is a lot to be thankful for.

“Thankful?! What reason could that be?! And what lesson is there to be learnt?” Ade asked looking confused

“Im leaving in poverty, i moved from a 3-bedroom apartment to a single room, a face-me-I-face-you, tell me Chidi, what possible lessons can be learnt here other than sufferings and pain? He further inquired gesticulating.

Chidi was amazed; he finally understood the power of perception, and how strongly it associates with experience and condition, his friend that was a positive and optimistic individual back in their university days, couldn’t think of anything good, he was surrounded by negativity, and it got to him, it had changed his psyche.

“my good friend, relax, no matter how bad a situation is, there is good inherent in it, you haven’t learnt anything because you’ve closed your heart, you’ve made a decision to only see the sufferings and pain around you” Chidi said emphatically

Ade looked at his friend bewildered, “come on Chidi, don’t go motivational on me, this is real life and not some fancy theory” he retorted.

Chidi smiled, he knew how Ade had rubbished and ridiculed motivational speakers and their works, if he was to really help his friend, he must make him view things, what he is going through in a proper perspective and once that is achieved, the rest would be easy.

“Do you want me to tell you about real life? Give you examples from real life, your own life?” Ade, come on, get your head out of your ass and think straight”.

Ade gave a haughty laugh and said, “My own life? Are you serious at all? What is there to tell or learn about my life except for disappointment, sufferings and pain?” he readjusted himself and sat up straight then said bluntly, “let’s face facts my friend, all my life, I have come to understand that people are just plain selfish and heartless”

Chidi shook his head in dismay, it seemed more difficult than he had anticipated, he wanted to meticulously deliver his message to him so as not to hurt him more, he realized if he himself becomes angry, nothing would be accomplished. So he relaxed on the chair and asked, “How is your wife doing?”

“she is doing fine, she’s been very supportive” Ade replied proudly but he remembered the condition he had left her, and then became emotionally distressed, for a second, he wanted to beg is friend to help him out, anything would do, even if it is to work for him, he’ll accept it without a second thought.

But his friend had a different plan, he didn’t want Ade to come work for him, he knows the kind of person Ade his, he would do fine if he find employment in another firm, but he knew what best suits his friend, and that is for him to be his own boss.

“Ha, that’s nice, you guys were meant for each other anyways” Chidi said, “and where is she by the way, I mean what’s she doing?”
“She’s a teacher now, you know her grade wasn’t that good, so she’s just managing with that” he replied

“It’s so sad things turned out like this, she ought to be in her father’s company you know, Ade, and don’t you think you’ve been unfair to her?” Chidi said with a serious look on his face, looking straight into his eyes, he wanted to make sure he gets the message clear, “you my friend, has been selfish and heartless all along!” he concluded.

While in the car, Chidi related how things were going on fine with him and his family, his wife just deliverd a bouncing baby boy in London, he is planning on setting up a new company in south Africa, and that was why he had come back to Nigeria to discuss with some of his business associates.

Ade listened keenly to all his words, but his stomach was churning with anger and envy, he thought why God had forsaken him and blessed his friend this much, this is not fair he thought, what has he done to deserve all this kind of suffering, he wondered.

Chidi was quite aware of his friend perception about him, at least he had voiced out his anger and fusteration the other day, he knew his friend so well that he can imagine what must have been going on in his mind as he spoke of is progress, he didn’t say all this to impress him or spite him, it was part of his plan, a grand plan to save his friend from perpetual penury.

Chidi Okoye, a son to a business mogul based in Lagos, owner of Okoye and sons international with branches scattered all over Lagos including; Alaba, trade fair and Oshodi, not to also mention branches at enugu, Onitsha, Owerri and Aba.

He was 'businessly' brought up, like almost all Anambra born kids, business, nay, making money is like integrated into their genes. It is a general axiom that the Igbos are industrious, Chidi wasn't an exception.

After his youth service, his father wasted no time in making him step into his shoes, as the 'Okpara' the first and only son of his father, he was to inherit the family business.

Chidi didn't resist the offer, though, when he got to his final year in the university, he wanted adventure, but he had been indoctrinated to accepting the position, he usually managed a branch, the Alaba branch whenever he was on holidays, he really loved it, making money and providing services for the people.

He later was able to achieve what he wanted, but rather than starting from the lower rung of the ladder, he decided to leverage with his father's resources to float a new company, his own company, Chistrides investments.
He initially started with ICT, he got a brilliant team together and got involved in rural telephony, it wasn't long before they got a big break, they patnered with the federal government and some international telecom companies. The company later diverted into other areas of business and was very successful.
*******
They arrived at Chidi's office, the office was on the Island, broad street to be precise, an eight story building, owned by him, but he only uses the top floor and rented out the remaining.

They got to his office, after Chidi had exchanged pleasantries with some members of his staff, he instructed his secretatry for him not to be disturbed, then sent the office clerk to go get them something to eat.
Ade was amazed, it's either Chidi was also hungry or that he had noticed him to be hungry, his own stomach had been a venue of an orchestra, cos while back in the car, he heard it make some remarkable sounds. Either ways, he was glad food would be coming soon.

Ade stepped into Chidi's office and was mesmerized, it was a large room, fully rugged, a big mahogany office desk was strtegically placed almost at the centre of the room with an executive chair, a book shelf was behind and Ade could make out some titles of some of the books, there was a sofa and three single-seater leather chairs arranged around a glass centre table which were close to the window, there was also a big table surrouded with office chairs capable of holding a board meeting.
Chidi motioned Ade to come in and have his sit on one of the single-seater, as he moved straight for his desk to check if there was any work to be done.

Ade sat down gently, having a sensation of coolness come over him all of a sudden, for a second, he forgot all about his troubles and worries, the air conditioning system was just perfect, and the office view was absolutely breathtaking it's been a while he felt like this, indeed, a very long while.

The day was quite sunny, a clear sky and the sun was shining bright, Ade stood at the bus stop deep in thought, he thought he was a failure, things are just not going for him at all, he was contemplating suicide, he thought perhaps, he should jump in front of a moving truck, he knew those ones were capable of causing maximum damage, never has he heard of a survivor, a person being hit by a moving truck. The thought of that scared him stiff, being crushed by a moving truck, that would be a painful death, heck No! He wasn't going to die like that, there should be better ways to die, or maybe he should go over to the Eko Bridge and jump, but he knew how to swim, in fact he was a very good swimmer and there might be a boat nearby or some good Samaritans who might come to his rescue.

While deep in his suicide contemplations, thinking of the best way to die with minimal effort and the least amount of pain, he remembered a quote, what he had read from one of his motivational book collections,

“failure exist only in the grave, a person being alive has not yet failed…”

He pondered on these words for some time, then thought, how could he be thinking of suicide when he was still much alive, being alive means he hasn’t failed, perhaps it means there is still hope, he should never loose hope, perhaps tomorrow might bring a new beginning and his problems left in the past.

A car screeched to a stop at a distance a little bit far away from Ade, this made him conscious of his environment, directing his attention to the vehicle, it was a black Lexus SUV, with tinted glasses, the beauty of the car got to him immediately, this was the kind of car he had always dreamt about, it was pure beauty and class fused in one. He then noticed a lady who had been standing alongside him, but he never for once checked her out, he took note of her dressing and appearance, then concluded that the car had halted for her, she was quite a beauty, and was also provocatively dressed, it wasn't difficult for him to decipher, a girl like her would definitely attract a car like that any day.

The lady walked towards the car in a manner that suggests a model, she walked so confidently as if she had been expecting the car to come pick her to her destination. Ade and all other bystanders looked on, he was so bitter about what he was seeing that he cursed under his breath, “foolish man” he snorted, ‘after stealing our money, na to carry woman’ he thought, shaking his head. Nothing made him make such a comment other than anger and hatred towards the rich and with the tinted glasses, he thought he was a politician.

As the lady got to the passenger side of the vehicle, expecting the window to slide down and reveal her ‘helper’ the man behind the wheels, the door at the driver side flung open and the occupant came down moving briskly towards Ade. She was embarrased and she quickly hailed a cab which was coming a little behind the jeep, she didn't even negotiate with the driver, before jumping in and the cab dissappeared into the traffic without any delay.

Ade! Ade! Ade Olowolayemo!

Ade was surprised to hear his full name out in the open just like that, and from someone driving such a car. Who could this be, as the figure came closer towards him, he recognized his friend immediately, his rich friend Chidi Okoye.

Ha Chidi, it’s you, I didn’t know o, is this your car? Ade asked, knowing that his friend drives a white Toyota pajero,

“yeah it’s me o, I just got this ride, not too long ago, Nna na God o” Chidi replied with a grin on his face

“Where are you off to?” he inquired

Ade looked at him with scorn and thought, yeah, he can buy a new jeep but to help, he finds that very difficult to do, selfish and heartless felow, he hissed, then said;

“Home I guess, I am not even sure sef” a frown had materialized on his face, he wanted to act up, cos he was still sore from the last encounter with him, but then realized he had been standing at the bus stop for close to half an hour without a bus with a free space. A free ride from his rich friend would do no harm he reasoned.

“I hope you are not in a hurry?” Chidi asked, trying to figure why he had a frown on his face
“No I’m not” Ade replied

“Okay then, come on lets get going, I’ll like for you to accompany me to my office” Chidi said, holding Ade’s hand and leading him to the car. He had earnestly wanted to speak with him after their last encounter, but he had always been very busy, but today, he's very free, he'll use this opportunity to amend their strained relationship.

Ade was seriously thinking, he would have said he was in a hurry, at least, his wife his back home and he doesn’t know her health condition, maybe she'll be needing a medical checkup or maybe not, then he remembered he had no money on him, he had absolutely no money to his name. His hopes on his investment had been dashed, in fact home is not where he should be thinking of now, where was he going to get the house rent from, ha! His landlord wouldn't even accept any form of pleading except his money.

Ade just had to follow his friend, he had no
other choice but to follow, perhaps this is hope, an opportunity for him to get his life back together he had thought.

BetaThings: I don't think we should all pile in and overwhelm her. She has done us a lot of good, by the grace of Allah, by sharing her experience. Not many can do that. I respect and commend her for that. And it is not an accident
She will come back into the fold, insha Allah
He brain will be useful for dawah and her excellent writing skills need to be applied to a an authentic book on how she reverted to Islam after a lot of troubled moves
It will happen, the first steps have been taken but we have to be patient

naijababe: grin grin grin grin grin. Poor lexy indeed.

I am a self confessed deist, naijaman likes to call himself a logical Christian ( i don't know what that means o). The idea of 'reverting' is yet to cross my mind and is not something we've talked. I honestly don't know what his reaction would be.
Fair enough. It was solely your choice, and it would be solely yours too when you decide to become a muslim again.

At this juncture, i''ll like to be more curious,

What strikes you most about deism? Is there anything special?

You said the faith(Islam) was the problem and you couldn't get over it, so i ask, what succor did you get in deism that you were lacking while a muslim?
IslamRe: Forex Trade: Haram Or Halal? by sino(m): 6:11pm On Apr 25, 2013
naijababe: In other words you want to be certain I did not leave Islam because of him, right?

Well, luckily for both of us (that is naijaman and i) he is xtian by name only and I met him 7 months after I became a christian.

Mac, I was hoping that by stating why he is one of my role models you will get an idea of my psyche and probably be able to do a bit of behavioural analysis on me. I didn't succeed then on that note then cheesy.

I am also guessing you will ask what happened to Lexy? I prefer to not go into the details, suffice to say he added to my anguish albeit unknowingly. I chose not say anything about that part because he does not deserve to have his shi.t laid bare on a public forum without his knowledge.
Nah, you already stated the reason you left Islam, i wanted to understand his role in your present belief, how instrumental was he towards your bold step into deism, is he also a deist? did he help in anyway to make you a deist?

I think i'll agree with Findout though, you stated he is one of your role model, so he has a great deal of influence on you.

This would now make me ask what do you think his opinion/reaction would be if and when you revert to Islam?

I was almost tempted to ask about lexy, eyah, poor Lexy sad
