Lol @ snubish and lanre, i think it's marriage and if you cant afford it, fasting!

Yeah, fasting keeps the hormones at bay. An hungry man got no time for hormones, coupled with the fact that your metabolism of glucose from food is reduced, leading to shortage of glucose for glycolysis which is the primary source of ATP(the energy currency in our physiology). The brain which is the centre of nervous coordination and the primary source of arousal needs glucose, since there is a shortage of glucose and the body would start utilizing its stores of glycogen, all available glucose would go to the brain, all unnecessary pathways would be blocked, so the production of neurotransmitters(such as dopamine,NO,epinephrine etc) responsible for arousal and pleasure, would be reduced.
NYSCRe: JNI Wants Separate Camp For Male And Female Corpers by sino(m): 5:47pm On Jul 04, 2013
Mintayo: correct me if i am wrong, its like its been long u serve!
Most corpers dnt wear d white materials giving to them in camp, they bring them from home, also muslim ladies are allowed to where hijab and a three-quarter trouser; and also most camp in Nigeria has cancelled camp fire night and replace it with something else,u cn go n find out!
Then, there is a saying dt charity begins at home,if a lady wants to b wayward,no amt of hijab or seperate camp can stop her...d ladies dt r wayward in camp were nt forced to it,they willingly agree to it!
If any muslim lady see something wrong in mixing with a guy, then she can simply seperate herself in some ways...afterall,nothing like rape in camps!
Have it in mind these ladies are coming from somewhere!
I served recently, so i know what i am talking about.

Yes it is true Muslims are allowed to put on a three quater etc. But its a big compromise on her part, it's not the ideal thing.

Yeah i agree to an extent, if you want to be wayward, you can only if the society allows it. Can we say because some people want to be armed robbers so we shouldn't speak against armed robbery or bring a solution to stop it?

There is a lot we can achieve if the society plays her role, i remember back then when you commit an inappropriate action outside your home, its the people around that will correct you before your parents do, now is not the case, everyone to himself, 'it's my life, i can live however i want to' syndrome.
NYSCRe: JNI Wants Separate Camp For Male And Female Corpers by sino(m): 5:31pm On Jul 04, 2013
bukatyne: Oh, so boys can be boys but girls cannot be girls?
I am a boy, i can only speak of what i know, boys will be boys and guys will be guys.

bukatyne: I guess because men rape ladies in the university therefore ladies should have their own separate university. It's not my business how other people choose to carry themselves as long as they don't encroach in my space. If you like, wear pants, talk whatever about women or men. I can only preach but that's it.
Please try to understnad me/us, we have rules and regulations guiding us as Muslims, and these rules are from God, we try to obey them to the best of our abilities and demand for them under the auspices of fundamental human right. When we come on here to explain to you the reasons, applying logic and common sense, we hope you'll see the proper perspective and rationale behind our rules and regulations.

When God created the earth, he didn't create another earth for women, even with that, does not give us the liberty to start behaving irresponsibly.

The case of the university makes me remember that until cases of sexual harassment got so high, there was really no uni with a dress code. Now what do we have? Dress codes in lag, lasu, illorin etc. if this law is properly enforced, cases of rape or sexual harassment would reduce to the bearest minimum. I hope you get what i am trying to say?
bukatyne: If muslims do not like the conduct in camps, they should apply for exemption letter.

I wonder why muslim men are not bothered how these vices affect them or is it permissible for them?
On the contrary, we are borthered, but the victim here are the females, we men can still put on the camp attire, and participate in the drills to a certain extent. The aim of NYSC is primarily national integration, its a lofty goal, i served in benue and i know how much it has impacted on me and how i feel about other tribe and ethnicity, keeping proper moral ethics would not in any way hamper the goals and aims of NYSC rather, it would strengthen it.

I think sponsorship is a great idea. Presenting this to any company with a track record of promoting literature in Nigeria would bring a positive response.

Not necessarily publishing contract, an award and a gift would be wonderful. I think Seun should look into this, get some few people together and send proposals for sponsorship for this kind of programs. NL is not a small name in cyberspace when it comes to Nigeria, i'm sure it can open doors and get positive responses.

On a second thought, looking for sponsorship again would require the whole exercise to be standardized, for example, the aspect of judging and the judges that would be used for the competition and some other logistics too.

bukatyne: I don't like discussions with sentiments.
Well, we all do albeit to varying degrees and veracity

bukatyne: What muslim lady is wearing bum shorts and see through blouse in camp? What is bad in campfire night? Each Platoon dancing around the huge bon fire? Some friends even strolled hand - in -hand all through the dance period of their platoon; some even went to other platoons to gist with their friends etc.
What kind of white shorts are being distributed in camp? I couldn't even put on mine cos they were like boxers. And shirts were of poor quality and frail. I don't know when you served perhaps in the eighties cos i don't understand why you are trying to deny the facts.

What is wrong with Camp fire night? A lot, drunkenness which is prohibited in the camp is at its peak, not to talk of the immorality that ensues. I do not deny the fact that some people do carry themselves with good decorum during such nights, but the vices that do occure, overshadows the good and as a wise person, i'll do away with it.
bukatyne: What has the boys talk got to do with muslim ladies?
A lot, not only the Muslim ladies, but all the ladies in camp. It tells you that guys would be guys, they talk about what they see and what they can't and they boast and compete to engage in immorality. Does this not give you a hint that such dressing and interactions as seen in camps would increase the tendencies for some silly guys to commit?

bukatyne: What happens when rain falls? Do these guys just grab random ladies or not? What about dress (position yourself) how you want to be addressed?
I don't understand what you are trying to say, i shared what i experienced.

bukatyne: Why can't the JNI fight for separate camps for guys and ladies and not others and muslim ladies?

Are the muslim ladies the problems in the camps?
Well, in order not to sound as if they are imposing their religious view on everyone, the reason for their statement in regards to Muslim women. Fyi we Muslims also organize camping programs, and some camps do include male and female Muslims, there is proper segregation at these camps and during morning drills, females have their own separate place for such.
The major contention here is about the morning exercise and what goes on in it(dressing and others), if it can be reviewed then i'm sure JNI wouldn't be on air calling for separate camps.

bukatyne: So if the lady and guy lift each other up, the guy will be so turned on and rape the girl at night? Oh please, is everything about sex with you? Can't you have healthy interactions with the opposite sex with thinking of sex? FYI, I have served so don't come here and bobo us like they tie men and women to do what they don't want to do. Everybody is invited for socials, fine. Can't the ladies sit down on their own? or do they lack self control that once they see a man they want sex? During camp fire night, can't the Muslim girls be together? Most socials occur towards the end of camp so the female Muslims should have made friends that can move around together.
Healthy interactions you say? What is healthy in a lady putting on a bum short and a see through shirt being lifted by a grown up man who is not her husband? I know you understand what temptation is and how it comes by, wouldn't it be wise to curtail avenues to it?
You served, i also served my papa land, i am a man, i stayed in the male hostel and do you know what over 80% males where talking about while back in the hostel?
I happened to be in camp during the raining season, do i need to explain what happens while on parade ground in the morning when it rains? Don't try to shy away from reality, we have gone so low, even on NL it is so obvious, do i need to remind you that male are aroused with what they see?!

If not for the cries by religious leaders(both christians and muslims) in the past which had made camp rules to be softened, all camp activities are meant to be compulsory on corps members(you can go look for a copy of the NYSC bye law).

And FYI, we have our activities in place of these social activities that are not appropriate for Muslims, instead of camp fire night, we have paradise night!
bukatyn: Abeg, stop making Muslim women look like they are brainless and have no self control. I have meet some intelligent, disciplined and principled ones

And why is this always about the women?
Our women are smart and intelligent, that is why they chose the hijab, they understand by obeying the creator, they gain respect and favor/blessing in this world and the next.

And it's not about the women, rather its about the society, making our society better for all.

NYSCRe: JNI Wants Separate Camp For Male And Female Corpers by sino(m): 5:50pm On Jul 03, 2013
How unfortunate that most people on here could not decipher a simple information presented in the OP. The most troubling thing is that most of these people are graduates or undergraduates who would pride themselves of being leaders of tomorrow. SMH!

What the JNI called for is: "The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has called on the management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to stop mixing males and females in the National Youth Service Scheme physical exercise at orientation camps as it violates Islamic tenets and offends the sensibilities of Muslims."

"Abubakar called on the NYSC to respect the decency and chastity of female corps members during physical exercises and other activities at the orientation camps, and provide alternative camps for female Muslim corps members."

I must say that, during the camping exercise, especially the drills, women/ladies are expected to put on shorts and a white t-shirt, some of this drills require some very awkward activities and positioning. How do you expect me to carry a married woman/lady(even if single) or grab her by the waist all in the name of drillshuh

Well, thank God some camps do have a little respect for adherents of faith(both Muslims and Christians), but it would be lofty, if the camps can be separated or the dressing and participation reviewed or better still, make NYSC voluntary and not one of the criteria for jobs in naija.

It is quite pathetic we've lost our shame, we copy the west and decide to lose our own morality. Gone are the days when high moral standards are what our society was known for, now is shamelessness, lewdness and corruption which as plagued both the male and the female of this present generation.

You can call this whatever you want or like, but the truth has been said, if we continue on this path of 'freedom' to behave and do whatever we want, then we should prepare for the consequences which are already evident for all to see.

To those who talk about a separate uni, well, you are expected to dress modestly in a citadel of learning, it's not a brothel, you are there for good purpose and you are not forced to dress in a particular way or participate in a particular activity which negates morality(even though there is room for improvement), so do not compare aples with oranges.

P.S: For those who would want to have a perception of Islam on immorality and shamelessness, please go here:

@deols,
The sisters are everywhere na, i opine that you start the thread as the amirah(yeah, it's official grin), let it make front page, seek support from sisters, especially from the ttc thread on this section(i believe they are matured and experienced as well as knowledgeable), you may also pm sisters that have been active on this section, informing them about this special thread dedicated to them.
Brothers too can contribute, shearing useful info that are targeted at the sisters.

@mac&tbaba, una don start again abi? Personally, i saw mac's initial post as a joke(typical of him), heck, there ain't nothing wrong about a bro bringing up suggestions for sisters. So both of you should stop putting your feet on the letter P and see how we can better our lot jare.

IslamRe: Desika's Opinion on The Crucifixion Of Jesus by sino(m): 12:48am On Jun 27, 2013
deSika: but again many things come to mind. i find it significantly difficult to imagine that Jesus is the only person who leaves the earth only to come back to continue living. its fairy tale at worse. all humans are born once and die once. death is the means by which they leave the earth. even stories of people who somehow escaped death, they never came back to resume llife inorder to catch up with death. now my friend whereas the christian position is that Jesus was killed and then raised up bodily. the muslim interpretation of the quran is rather awkward as the quran never spells out that
1. Jesus did not die. [i have explained this using the "they killed him not verse" below
2. Jesus would come back to die again.
Desika, first of all, you must be very careful when trying to make a point in order to win an argument, there are a lot of awkwards or fairy tales(to use your words) in the bible, so think twice before you post, don't be too desperate.

On why it is only Jesus(as) that would not die and be raised, i can equally ask why Jonah is the only one that had to be swallowed by a whale and then still be alive, why is Jesus(as) the only one who was born without a father, why was Moses(as) the only one who divided the red sea etc. These things are meant to be signs, signs for mankind to learn, reflect and have faith, God chooses his prophets and has programmed what each will do, achieve and accopmlish. God has a reason, He does what He wills. Isn't He the best of Planners?

You say you christians believe he was killed and raised bodily? Don't you know i can ask you the same question as you have? Why is it Jesus(as) the only one that was killed and raised bodily to the heavens? If you have another person who this also happened to, bring your proof and mind you, if there is indeed such a person, then don't come on here shouting how Jesus(as) is divine. And didn't Jesus(as) in the Bible state that, "...and the resurrection from among [the] dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage; for neither can they die anymore, for they are equal to angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection." Did Jesus(as) resurrect from among the dead? Did he become a spirit like angels?

You amuse me, the Qur'an clearly states that Jesus(as) not being killed, the verse you are quoting specifically state that he was not killed!(Q4vs158). I told you to stop using your christian doctrine to interprete the Qur'an.

deSika: 1. can you produce a single verse of your quran that says Jesus will come back to die. if you cannot then i am afraid that you are wishing away the truth.
On Jesus(as) coming back to earth and to die, saying that it's not stated in the Qur'an is like you saying that the 5 daily prayers is not stated in the Qur'an. You should know that when it comes to explaining the Qur'an i.e tafseer, there are different approach used by scholars, there is a reason Allah(SWT) sent the Prophet(SAW) with the message, the Qur'an was revealed over a span of 23years, each surah, each verse had a reason for it being revealed, each had teachings and practice by the Prophet(SAW) and his companions. Allah specifically states,"your companion(Muhammad(SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. It is only an inspiration that is inspired."(Q53vs2-4) "O ye who believe! Obey Allah and obey the Apostle and make not vain your deeds!"(Q47vs33) This clearly state that we Muslims accept what the Prophet(SAW) says, and we follow his teachings. Even if it is not explicitly stated as you want it to be(i.e Jesus is coming back to die), there are hadiths about the coming of Christ, we believe it as Muslims. Don't you guys quote the hadith to us and claim it's one of your Holy books?

I would say it is you that is wishing away the truth, it is you that do not want to believe in the Prophet(SAW), even as the truth stares at you right in the face, you still deny it.
deSika: 2. i saw this verse and i was wondering
“I (Son of Mary) was a witness over them whilst I dwelt amongst them; when Thou didst take me up [Arabic: tawaffaitani, meaning, ‘caused me to die’] Thou wast the Watcher over them, and Thou art a witness to all things.” (Qur’an, Surah Al-Maida 5: 117). [it points out that Jesus was caused to die while he dwelt among the jews]
On Qur'an 5vs117, all the tafseer i have read, translates it to mean 'take me up', ordinarily, using my arabic to english dictionary on my laptop, the word "tawaffaytany" is translated: to take one's due in full, to obtain one's share in full. Going further, looking at the root word, which is wafa, we have numerous translation and as the morphology changes, we have more translation and meaning and one of which is: to bring, to take, to deliver(to someone or something).(Hans Wehr's A Dictionary Of Modern Written Arabic).

Looking at scholars of tafseer, especially Al Hasan, he states that, "there are three types of wafaat as used in the Qur'an(usage of words in the Qur'an)
1. there is wafaatu-l-mawti(i.e, death),Q39vs42 "it is Allah that takes the souls (of men) at death. 2. wafaatu nnawmi(i.e sleep), Q6vs60 "it is He who doth take your souls by night" and 3. wafaatu rrafh'i(i.e to take up in person), Q3vs55 "Behold! Allah said: "O Jesus! I will take thee and raise thee to Myself and clear thee (of the falsehood) of those who blaspheme; I will make those who follow thee superior to those who reject Faith to the Day of Resurrection; then shall ye all return unto Me and I will judge between you of the matters wherein ye dispute"

I had to quote the whole verse in the last example, because it contains loads of information. From this verse, Allah made mention of taking Jesus up to Himself, and then make mention of returning(i.e resurrection)(everyone including Jesus(as)) to Him again on the day of judgement so as to Judge between them. The more you read these verses, the more it gets clearer that Jesus was raised up alive and did not die on the cross, he'll come back and die and then resurrected for judgement.

Scholars had discussed this issue at lenght, the verses are clear, there is no contradictions.
deSika: 3. when the quran says it appeared so to them, what does it mean. most muslims have explained it to mean that Allah put his resemblance on another man. but if you examine that claim with common sense, you would discover that
1. someone was killed by crucifixion
2. the person crucified looked like Jesus to the people [it appeared so to them according to the quran]
but my common sense just tells me that the person that was killed is actually Jesus, because no body would resemble Jesus apart from Jesus himself. so muslims say the person that was killed look like Jesus, i say the person that looked like Jesus is Jesus.
In regards to Allah's statement in Q4vs157, i choose to accept what is clear, Allah said he made it look like such but they killed him not, i believe Allah's words. Haven't you watched a movie? Especially war films, do you believe all those killed in them are dead for real? No be man do that one? Why must you always think God cannot do what is even greater than that?

deSika: 4. as an aside addition, pls i will like to know if you agree with this site http://www.answering-christianity.com/que7.htm this is thier claim
Like i said, scholars have discussed this issues at lenght, they bring opinions according to information at their disposal, they are not binding they are just trying to explain what might have happened.

And Allah knows best.

Hold it there bro, what is your aim here? If you see a misconception about freaud's work then point it out and stop being confrontational ain't you a Muslim?

The post is quite insightful, i never read or heard about the oaths being related to the 5 prophets as being presented by the OP, talking about being the best of creation and mentioning the best of mankind especially the Prophet Muhammad(SAW).

I'm not a psychologist, but its an area that interest me, i read about freaud's theory back in the day and didn't have any objection to it, i did see how male children where fond of their mums and females their dad, it looked plausible. The main issue is, is this based on s.exuality at this tender age?

Do you want to force your own intepretations and understanding on us? Because i see your atempt as being desperate, and you lack knowledge in regards to what you are talking about.

You quoted a verse (Q19vs33), you read "peace be upon me the day i was born, the day i die and the day i'll be raised up alive", and then you say eureka! I have gotten it, Jesus(as) was raised up alive, that means he must have died(using your christian ideology) and so, the Qur'an contradicts itself when it said Jesus(as) was not killed or crucified.

This is your opinion, heck everyone is entitled to one, even a mad man, but is your opinion the truth? A simple test is to know your understanding about usage of words in the Qur'an, do you know anything about contextual meaning as regards to the Qur'an? The answer is NO, why? Cos i asked you a simple question about the arabic word used in both Q19vs33 and Q4vs158 both are translated to raised up, but its different words and different context.

To make you understand the word and context of Q19vs33, there is also a verse with similar wordings in regards to prophet Yahyah(as) in the same surah, verse 15, it states, "peace be upon him the day he was born, the day he dies and the day he'll be raised up alive". It is either you bring a verse or hadith that state that prophet Yahyah(as) was also raised up like Jesus(as) after he died. If you can't find any, then you should know that just like anyone on earth would be born, will die and will be raised up alive on the day of judgement, so is the case of Jesus Christ(as). Every soul shall taste death and every soul shall be raised up alive(i.e resurrected back to life).

Now the word proper, the word used is ub'athu, yub'athu(in verse 33 and 15), this word as used in the Qur'an means the resurrection on the day of judgement, even, one of the name of the day of judgement is yawm alba'th. An example of such usage can be found in Q6vs 36 "Those who listen(in truth) be sure will accept: as to the dead Allah will raise them up: then will they be turned unto Him" the arabic word used here is yab'athuhum and it can easily be deduced that this raising them up is on judgement day. Ba'atha in the Qur'an is also used to indicate raising up a messanger as used in Q25vs51"If We Willed, We could raise up a warner in every village". There are numerous verses in the Qur'an where you'll find the word yub'athu and they are mostly referring to resurrection on the day of judgement.

Now, the word used in Q4vs158 which is rafa'ahu which translates to raised him up i.e uplift him, it cannot be used for raising from the dead, not to talk of resurrection on judgement day, they cannot be used interchangeably. See Q12vs76 to underatand the usage of rafa'a.
All these i have stated can be understood if you have basic understanding of the arabic language.

Reading the whole verse and the one preceding it(Q4vs157-cool, we'll understand that the context here is not resurection(or raising up) after death. Lets read and see; "That they say(in boast) we killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary the Apostle of Allah; but they killed him not nor crucified him but so it was made to appear to them and those who differ therein are full of doubts with no (certain) knowledge but only conjecture to follow for of a surety they killed him not."
"Nay, Allah raised him up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted in Power Wise".(Q4vs157-cool

A right thinking person would see that no death occured in the verse above, so the raising up here is prior to death, so what are you guys yapping about? Haven't scientist been able to raise themselves beyond the atmosphere alive? If man can do that, why then do you want to limit what God can do?

Now ponder on the words of Jesus(as) from the bible and tell me if Jesus died. Let us read luke 24:36-43
"And as they were saying these things, he(jesus) himself stood in their midst, and says to them, peace be unto you(Assalam alaykum grin), But they, being confounded and being frightened, supposed they beheld a spirit. And he(jesus) said to them, why are ye troubled? And why are thoughts rising in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Handle me and see, for a spirit has not flesh and bones as ye see me having. And having said this he shewed them his hands and his feet. But while they yet did not believe for joy, and were wondering, he said to them, Have ye anything here to eat? and they gave him part of a broiled fish and of a honeycomb; and he took it and ate before them.

I don't know how you guys read the above and still claim he died, Jesus came in flesh and bone, he even chop food, did he turn to spirit before being raised up or with the flesh and bone alive?

We Muslims believe that Jesus(as) did not die on the cross, he'll come back and will die like every other human being and then he would resurrected on judgement day fulfilling his statement in Qur'an 19vs33.

deSika: trying to play the trademark muslim denial. the verse says raised alive. its an english word and i understand what it means. i was not the one that translated it so.
Okay, you don't like the assignment, here is a more simple one, in the same surah you quoted, check verse 15, what does it state? And what is your view about it. Thanks

Erm desika, are you now applying the 'holy spirit' induced interpretation for the Quran?

Let me give you a small assignment, in the verse you quoted, the Arabic word used for raised up is what? Then check Quran 4 vs 158, and tell me the Arabic word used. Thanks in advance.
IslamRe: 'A Woman Has No Faith Except That Of Her Husband' by sino(m): 7:05pm On Jun 23, 2013
maclatunji: This is what someone just said to my hearing. She was a Christian that became a Muslim by virtue of marrying a Muslim man.

What do you think about such a belief? How does it affect the quality of her faith as a Muslim?

What is the position of Islam on the faith of women?

Let us talk about these issues.
"Obirin o ni esin" this is a common statement within the yorubas, i'm almost certain the person in question is probably a yoruba.

While listening to sheikh zakir Naik answering a question regarding marrying a christian, he said it is allowed, but stressed that he believes the christian a muslim can marry is one who believes in one God(i.e not a trinitarian) which i tend to agree with.

I believe such a woman would find it easier to becoming a muslim, and all what needs to be done is proper education.

I strongly hold that her reversion to Islam isn't complete until she herself is convinced about Islam and holds it as the truth.
In terms of faith, male and female are the same in Islam, it's not about adoption but rather it's conviction.
To fully understand how convinced she is, she must answer the following questions truthfully;
1. Would i continue to be a muslim if per chance my husband dies or converts?

2. I'm i ready to live my life according to the injuctions of Allah without fear or favour of my husband?

3. Would i remain on this religion if faced with trials and tribulations?(eg, second wife, no issue etc).

A devout Muslim must try to marry a devout Muslimah so as to help themselves grow, but if he wants to do 'Jihad', then he must be very vigilant cos some can pretend and cause kasala in the future.
