So are they saying we jettisoned precautions last month or they just resumed testing again . Or maybe it mutated . But seriously it's difficult to wrap one's head around this second wave thing with how uneven it is and it starts and ends ncdc media page . Second wave and states are still recording 4 new cases . |

Swiftlee: Don't you think the surge in confirmed cases is might be used as justification for the vaccine I am not a sceptic but why is it that our number surges almost the same time UK confirmed cases surges? Is there any template or model we need to know? Just curious!! Well many people conspired that theory before you . You sure about the UK thing? Cos they've been having surges way before our so called second wave. Also UK isn't the only country experiencing surges. I could theorise that we're following Germany . |

Skyfly007: Misplaced priorities! I'm a medical doctor and I can confidently tell you that what Nigeria needs is a malaria vaccine!
Malaria has killed more pregnant women, children than covid 19 since March this year!
Covid 19 is not a death sentence in Nigeria! pardon my ignorance but a malaria vaccine ?. Modified: I just looked it up and saw there's only one approved but has low efficacy. |

Claudiusdeux: Regarding covid, it is best to err on the side of caution
After all, in some parts of the US, the worst case scenario is already happening, some states are running out of beds. Thankfully not all.
Nigeria can't survive a full blown uncontrolled infection. That it has not come to that here is because , in my opinion, we were not as exposed. Poverty means most Nigerians can't just jump on a plane and head to China or Europe for pleasure...even the wealthy ones. idk what's to say Nigeria hasn't experienced full blown infections, then it means we're superb . |

Angelfrost: No where in the world is over 50 percent of the population being tested regularly.... So, while I might be exaggerating, I just might be closer to the truth than you can imagine.
If we are being honest, no nation has a true picture of infection spread or accurate number... While some nations are testing in quite large numbers and rates, Nigeria has barely scratched the surface (We have barely investigated or tested up to 1% of our population).
So, how can you actually prove me right or wrong??! I have merely postulated based on ease of transmission due to poor containment and near absence of disease prevention among the population.
You are probably in doubt largely because we don't have a larger than expected number of sick and hospitalized. Many are still in shock that our health and emergency services have not been overwhelmed with the sick and dying... This is why I talked about virulence and susceptibility being way less here compared to nations with far better health services, and disease management structures. Yeah. People aren't getting sick. |

Claudiusdeux: We medicos are not lying. The thing is real.
And the reason why we are beating the drum is not because COVID is particularly dangerous. The vast majority of people who catch covid19 will not die or fall seriously ill.
The problem is, if the disease is allowed to spread unchecked, the number of seriously ill will overwhelm our available critical care capacity. When that happens, people who have easily manageable diseases like stroke, heart failure, sepsis, etc will not be able to be managed effectively, and as a result there would be avoidable deaths.
During the ebola crisis, Liberian hospitals were overwhelmed by EBOLA cases, to the point that people were dying of common malaria simply because there was no space in the hospital to treat them.
Lockdowns are the way forward, till we have an effective treatment, or till the new vaccines are proven to really work Serious question though; were we ever overwhelmed like you wrote or it's just the standard projections . Cos other than the initial panic in some states with doctors contracting the virus and some dying, it seemed to be a normal clinical affair. I mean we didn't get to hear surge in non-covid complications and deaths(it might have happened but we'll never know). If no then why would this so called second wave be any different? |

A protozoa is a much larger and bigger and different thing compared to a virus. you're wasting your time bro. The average Nigerian/anti-covid calls anything fever and headache MALARIA. |

DeOTR: I sense they're using Kaduna as a test ground for another nationwide lockdown. If the signal is green, boom!!! They'll lock y'all down again. lol at y'all . Well for one the legality of the first lockdown is questionable but we let it go cos of the situation at hand then. Along the way it became a matter of State government pronouncements, so this time it's going to beg the question 'who/what can lockdown Nigeria' FG or state . Also I don't believe they(PTF) have the will to lockdown judging by how the false one played out . They couldn't during our so called first wave, they won't now. They could shut some things down tho (federal schools, interstate travel , religious centres) but largely imo it'll be up to state governments. IMO trying to lockdown would be a foolish move by a foolish government. |

Maybe they closed again cos of the security situation. I'm still trying to understand what and what this closure and reopenings cover, can it affect federal institutions also? |

bahaushe1: I had problem with that press release by the President too. The union had opportunity to officially inform government the main reason for not suspending strike but failed to do so. They had opportunity during the November 27th meeting and in that press release.
The leadership of the union should be more open and direct. Nah what is needed is a third party. Cause at this point you wonder what they even discuss for hours in that conference room for them to always counteract each other when they're done |
