bawomolo:Lol. . .at last! I can say that you are absolutely positively wrong about something. It’s not on the south side, try again. I lived on Sunset in 60419 for like 5yrs. . .weirder and weirder, hun? I know! Job 7-9 Job is complaining to God. . .I believe the word used is Remonstrating. I don’t think we need to go into why he was doing that. And if you really think about it, It’s not surprising that those words came out Job’s mouth, look what he went through. . . Another thing, although Job loved, served and obeyed God, he really didn’t have a deep understanding of who God is (was?). I mean the poor guy thought God caused his troubles and that God was treating him unfairly. Not knowing God is also the reason he had the wrong ideas about death. . .he thought man was like clouds, they’d simply disappear. He even believed God couldn’t see the dead. So you see, these are JOB’S THOUGHTS, HIS IDEAS, HIS FEELINGS. (Now you’re gonna come back and say, "Oh yeah. . .but didn’t God inspire all the books in the bible?” So let me say upfront. . . I don’t have an answer. . Yet) John 5: 28 -29 Jesus making it known to all that God is full of compassion & Mercy and through him (Jesus) mankind is redeemed (going back to the ever so popular John 3:16). This is also supported in Ephesians 2. . . 1. And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2. Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3. Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. 4. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5. Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved 6. And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: 7. That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. It’s all about understanding the verses in CONTEXT. And before you say it, I will. . .so much for lurking and reading, right? To be quite honest, this is been really good, made me study the Bible more. |
bawomolo:60430. . .You? 300 to 600?!!! Yikes! Well on second thoughts, it's not that surprising since it's verse by verse. Okay, looking forward to reading more. |
Yes! Yes!! Ooooooooh God Yes!!!! |
@ Chookym ROTFLMAO. . . .Ay! Finally! Men can now understand how women feel when some guy from nowhere starts sexually harrasing them. Who said something good can't come out of homosexuality, hun? |
na koboko fit uLMAO. . .you won't kill me with laughter. Strict Daddy |
OMO IBO, he has always been like this,Why are you complaining now? You shouldn't be mad at him, he's only being what he's always been. . .the person you met and fell for. Some women complain about their partner changing after they get together, you are complaining because yours hasn't change. |
OMO IBO:clapping softly Tee hee hee |
1) Not getting married. 2) Commit TO each other because you want it not because someone else *coughs (parents) coughs*wants you to. 3) Talk! Talk! Talk and more Talk (to each other not at each other) 4) RESPECT EACH OTHER. . .can't stress that enough. 5) Have Fun. . .don't know why but when people get together, they think they have to be serious and all. B.O.R.I.N.G. 6) Allow your partner to miss you. . .nothing kills a relationship faster than the feeling of being stifiled (abi it's just me?). |
Tee Hee Hee. There's nothing funnier than the reactions of homophobes. . .especially when they are Nigerian guys!!! LMAO. |
toyin1709:Is the brokeness because of a recent occurance (like he just lost his job) or has he always been like that? If he's never held a job and has always been this way. . .why are you complaining now? In my opinion, I don't think you should break with someone because of their lack of money. Don't look at the man he is today, look at the man he's going to be in the future. Now if there's no indication he is going places, I say cut the cords! Cut it! Cut it! Cut it ASAP!!! |
bawomolo:Yep. Weird, hun?. . . or am I the only one still amazed about how small the world has gotten thanks to the internet? One last question on these contradictions (I promise) . . .how many of them are there? |
JeSoul:ROTFLMAOPIMP!!!! |
bawomolo:Lol. . .nah, I'm cool. I'll just go back to lurking and reading. . .but thanks for the invite. So which is it. . .773, 708, 312, 847, 630? I'm thinking one of the 1st three. . .most naijas I know don't do 847 & 630. |
. . .And I did try to explain the contradictions. Just wanted to add that. |
Lol. . .rant? Honestly, to go a rant would mean I am emotionally invested in this and that couldn't be furthest from the truth. The little bit about "fitting you to a T" was not meant to be taken as an insult. You are a skeptic of the Bible and since I've never met one. . .at least not one who has been vocal about it as you are, I found you intriguing, which is why I did the googling thingy and when I saw the write up on skeptics, it made sense. That's all there is to it. Nothing more, nothing less. . .I promise you however, for peace sake, I apologise for any offense I may have caused. God knows the last thing I want is to be at war on the religion section. |
Come on. . .attack your personal Character? Pls read through my posts and tell me how I did that. Not agreeing with you does not mean I have anything personal against you. |
Awwwwwww. . .this is the sweetest thread on Nairaland. Who knew a Naija man can be this romantic, eh? Good Luck, my brother. |
Ah, the list continues I see. . . your doggedness is admirable, I’ll say that much. I finally read the entire thread (I confess, I usually just skip to the last page on a thread that is over 4 pages. What can I say. . .I’m lazy) and now I understand that you aren’t really interested in an explanation for the “contradictions” you post. It is one way traffic for you, isn’t it? I get it now and that got me thinking about your mindset. Did a little googling and saw the following. . . Skeptic's Instructions for Reading the BibleIt fits you to a T doesn’t it? Honestly, if all students can follow instructions the way you do . . .the world will be a better place. Anyhoo. . .enjoy your thread (not that I need to tell you that, right?) Oh…here’s something else I found. Mistakes the critics make by Norman Geisler. |
mukina2:Let's call a spade a spade, it is obvious that there is partiality running amok in this section. A moderator moderates efficiently by having a global point of view. . .not one sided. The measure of what would be deemed as offensive comment or post should not rest only on WHO makes it. Ask yourself this. . .Have you being fair in the way you've moderated? If you are honest, you'll see the answer is no. nwando:Maybe if you didn't say things like Taliban on nairaland. . .the powers that be of Nairaland might be inclined to give you an audience. Just sayin' |
bawomolo:Not so fast sparky. . .I assume you are a man of philosophy and must be aware of a little something called “Burden of Proof”. Since it’s you who proposes that the Bible is full of contradictions, it is up to you not me to prove it. I, as someone who opposes your argument, have given you a reasonable explanation and that’s as far as I need to take it and then YOU show me proof that my reasonable explanation does not hold water. Since it’s Sunday and I’m in a generous mood. . .I’ll demonstrate how the above works using the Sons’ of David. Here we go. . . 1) Both Account were written by men 2) Both accounts have the number of children, 3) Both Accounts have the same order of birth… 4) Both accounts have same spellings for all the other names 4 our of a possibly 5!! We can say with in reason that Daniel IS Chileab. Now you show me proof that my reasonable explanation does not hold water I'll give you the following as reasonable explanations of your contradictions 1) The Bible was not written by GOD but by men. 2) These men were INSPIRED not DICTATED TO by God 3) Since man is not a perfect being, it’s only reasonable that there will be mistakes, misrepresentations. . .hence the need to correct some things 4) There are over 60 books in the Bible written in over 6 styles of writing (Prose, Poetry, Proverbs, History etc) by 40 people from different walks of lives (from Kings, to tax collectors, to Fishermen) with different levels of understanding. 5) The Bible was originally written in Hebrew and Greek and was later translated into English. It is reasonable to say some things were either lost or added in translation. Also keep in mind that the translation was not done by one person in one sitting. 6) Contradictory is does not always mean something is wrong. . .as evidenced by my lovely story of being stalked in one of my previous post. Now I am throwing down the gauntlet, Bowomolo. . .Prove to me that my reasonable explanations ain't so reasonable. Please don’t come at me with more lists. . .I get the gist. |
Who where The sons of David born in HebronLol. . . Bowomolo, I understand what you're trying to do here. . .believe me, I do but have got to be a lot more choosy with the contradictions you posts, if you don't be dismissed as just another nitpicker with a lot of time on his hands. Take the above for instance, Both accounts tell us David had six sons, they both have the same order of birth. . .but let's throw out the entire book because one name out of six does not match. Let's ignore the possibility that Daniel's name could also be Chileab because one person have two names is just too out there for the mind to comprehend. Again. . .just wanted to point that out. Carry on. |
There's an accident involving a car and truck. There are three witnesses. The police ask each witness to write a report of the accident and turn it in anytime they like. The first who has a flair for writing and is very proficient in the English language, launches into an account of what happened. . .giving every minute detail from the Color of the steering in the Van to the worn out tires on the Car. He turns his report in just 2 days after the accident. The second, also proficient in the English Language but has no patience for writing gives just a surface description of what he saw and turns it in the day of the accident. The third barely understands the English language. . .uses words that although makes sense to him, can be misunderstood by those around him. He ends his report with "Small car and big car jam each other" and turns it in 2 weeks after the accident. When reading these 3 reports, written by three people with different backgrounds at different times, surely one would expect to find some contradictions? Should we then say because the third man used Big Car instead Van he is wrong? More importantly, does the different writing style and different choice of words mean the accident never happened? Absolutely not! Another example. . . I'm being followed by two people who are documenting my day to day activities (Hey, don't scoff. . .stranger things have happened). So Sunday Morning comes, the 1st sees me on my way to church smiling, he writes in his entry, Sunday, April 20 2008 - Morning Subject HAPPILY leaves for Church (he goes by the rule of thumb that smile equals happy) The second catches me in a moment when I'm frowning and I even appear to wipe my eyes (Mascara is Bitch), He writes. . . Sunday, April 20 2008 - Morning Subject UNHAPPILY goes to Church (he goes by the rule of thumb that frowning equals sad) It does not take a two years old to see these statements are contradictory. . .but it does not mean one is wrong and the other is right nor does it negate the fact that I went to church. The original poster of this thread makes his point on the assumption that the Bible was written by one person within a certain timeframe. He also fails to put into consideration that the Bible was not originally written in English and was translated by people based on a rule of thumb of what a word, a phrase means. As Nigerians, I'd think we'd have a better understanding of how some things can be lost in translation. One of my favorite Songs is Vernacular by Lagbaja (with Fela) in which the singer talks about how certain words can't be translated into the English language. . .he even goes as far as saying "English is not Expression". . .lol. I know, I know this is probably not the right forum to bring up Lagbaja (I've asked for forgiveness oh. . .please all the Iya Jesus' don't condemn me to Hell) Anyway, my point is. . .if the Author puts in consideration that the different people who wrote the books of the bible did so based on their own perspective and that the bible not originally written in English, If he leaves allowances that something could have been lost in translation and if he also understands that contradiction does not necessarily mean something is wrong. . .maybe just maybe he would have a better grasps on things. . .but I'm not holding my breath. |
why kill the enemies u love??Not rain on your little parade here. . .but if you put the quote from Numbers first (as it should be) you’d see that the quote from Matthew makes sense. One would think the phrase “You have heard that it was said. . .” at the beginning of Chapter 43 and the single word “But” of Chapter 44 would be dead giveaways that something (from the past) was being amended. Guess we gotta work things any which way to match our premise, hun? Anyhoo, just wanted to point that out. . .Carry on. |
Which Church do you Attend Lol. . .why would anyone in their right mind want to answer that question on this forum? Who wants to be hanged, drawn and quatered because their Church is not one of the "Chosen"? |
The power of the Holy Spirit is freely available to all men irrespective of race, sex, religion, social status etc as long as they live in the sense of the laws of God. What matters in the sight of God is how one uses God`s power in his thoughts, words, actions and motives. The toga of religion which many proudly wear on earth do not count much once the so called death occures. Then the departed soul will then experience what he or she has been sowing , it will be very clear then wheather or not he or she has used the power of the Holy Spirit as God decred or wheather he or she has misused the power. The power of the Holyspirit do not flow to an individual because of his religion, it flows to him or her because he or she lives according to the laws of God and has attained the spiritual mobility necessary for the reception of the power of the Holy Spirit. Among christians, Budhists, Jews, Islamists, etc, there are individuals who serve God genuinely and use his power. That is why among all peoples and religions their are gifts of the Holy Spirit present in a small subset of believers. Sadly the religious parochialism of many a believer makes us to reject or question the manifestation of the power of the Holy Spirit in so far as the blessed one did not emanate from our own church or religion. We are quick to label such as the work of evil spirit or trump up some other nonsense. When miracles happen in our own church or religion, it is the power of God but when the same thing happen among followers of another religion, then it is the power of the devil. Yet when asked to provide a single evidence why the same happening is from God in one case and from the devil in another case, no robust evidence is given. God is the creator and his physical gifts of rain, air, intelligence, water, fire, technological innovations etc are available to all men irreaspective of religion. Among top scientists, their are believers of all religions. The same goes for teachers, doctors, farmers, engineers, bussiness men etc. The men and women who have distinguished themselves in their various earthly profession did not acquire the excellence because of their religion, rather they distinguished themselves because the mastered the laws governing their own profession. The same goes for spiritual things. Any man or woman who "Loves God with all his heart and loves his neighbour as himself" will by blessed by the Holy Spirit and the religious toga he or she wears on earth is immaterial.
Beautifully Stated!!! May GOD continue to bestow upon you WISDOM, KNOWLEDGE and UNDERSTANDING. It's so refreshing to finally read someone who isn't intent on be divisive on the RELIGION section. |
Art major Aliza Shvarts '08 wants to make a statement. Beginning next Tuesday, Shvarts will be displaying her senior art project, a documentation of a nine-month process during which she artificially inseminated herself "as often as possible" while periodically taking abortifacient drugs to induce miscarriages. Her exhibition will feature video recordings of these forced miscarriages as well as preserved collections of the blood from the process. The goal in creating the art exhibition, Shvarts said, was to spark conversation and debate on the relationship between art and the human body. But her project has already provoked more than just debate, inciting, for instance, outcry at a forum for fellow senior art majors held last week. And when told about Shvarts' project, students on both ends of the abortion debate have expressed shock . saying the project does everything from violate moral code to trivialize abortion. The display of Schvarts' project will feature a large cube suspended from the ceiling of a room in the gallery of Green Hall. Schvarts will wrap hundreds of feet of plastic sheeting around this cube; lined between layers of the sheeting will be the blood from Schvarts' self-induced miscarriages mixed with Vaseline in order to prevent the blood from drying and to extend the blood throughout the plastic sheeting. Schvarts will then project recorded videos onto the four sides of the cube. These videos, captured on a VHS camcorder, will show her experiencing miscarriages in her bathrooom tub, she said. Similar videos will be projected onto the walls of the room http://www.yaledailynews.com/articles/view/24513 God Help us all! |
somze:ROTFLMAO. . .Love it!!!! |
Uche2nna I can't believe the amount of contradiction I am reading on this thread. So to defend the pastors , You agree that no system is flawless. But in case of the Catholic priests that argument does not hold. Celibacy should scraped because some priests could not live up to their vows. Next You would be advocating for polygamous marriages merely on the ground that some spouses are unfaithful.Rotflmao. . .Ironic isn't it? The We're only Human flag is waved when the floodlights are turned on some people but they are so quick to dismiss it when it comes to others. Yep, Religion for Unity, Peace and Love. . .if Unity, Peace and Love means Division, Condemning others and being blatant Hypocrites and yet the answer to why someone would rather be an atheist continues to puzzle the mind. . .Lol |
can't you guys see that the footsoldier of all'ah/belial who started this thread has fulfilled his master's mission.Lmao. . .Oh my God! This is too much! You're blaming the original poster for bruhahaha on this thread. . .because he's moslim? Are you going to blame him for all the other One million and one threads where Christians are fighting each other over which Church is God's dwelling place and which is the boys quarters? What about the threads pitching one Pastor against the other. . .should we blame that on the Moslims too? And let's not forget, they are also to blame for the confusion over which kind of Christian another Christian should marry. Rotlmao! The truth is Christians don't need an "outsider" to cause a division amongst them, they are doing a mighty fine job on their own. Can't wait to see which Church is going to get denounced today. I have an idea but I like surprises. . .exciting stuff! The Bible says anyone who calls on the name of the Lord Jesus shall be saved.Sure. . .until it's time for a Catholic to marry a Jehovah's witness or a thread about Cele and Deeper Life opens up and watch the lighted torches come out in droves. Sometimes I wonder if people just mouth the words and don't really process it. |
