Op, thanks for this thread.......what do u think about getting married to SA woman and how can it be of help. How easy will it be to get a job in Port Elizabeth. Thanks
when it comes to marriage you have to make a wise decision every woman is different. Getting a job in PE like any other place in the world will depend on the jobs available and your qualifications.

MRBrownJ:
sister Caro, come on now!!!!
i understand that you have lived in SA for the last 10years, and probably made it your home now, and therefore you dislike people who have anything remotely negative to say about Sa, but i suggest you get over it.
show me where i said there arent any problems in SA?

again, tell me how what i wrote "EXPLAINS" the xenophobic attacks from South africans towards black Africans? you must be a genius because i dont see it.
if you cant see how you answered you own question and went on to ask the the same thing again, then i really cant help you with anything.

lso, how what you wrote solved the problem of the xenophobic attacks?!

I already said it will require a long term solution
which does not take a day or 2 to come up with.
Did the UN come up with a solution to terrorism in a week or is it still ongoing? Lets not find pleasure in being illogical please.

that will not require are you saying that putting people in refugee camps solves this xenophobic problem?
do you prefer they went back the burnt houses or come live in your house? undecided

you saying that sending africans back to their countries solved the problem (i guess people who have businesses should carry their shops on their heads while leaving, right)?!

Are illegal immigrants not repriatrated everywhere else in the world? Please help me understand? Those who were legal still had a choice to stay behind. So honestly i dont see the point you are trying make. undecided

are you now saying that there was no police in these strategic places during the xenophobic attacks?! highly laughable.....

Let me out it in a way you can understand. The South African Police Services and the South African National Defence Force also known as pulbic authorities were placed in different areas to moniter them, prevent and stop attacks and arrest prepetrator.

so, in a way what you are "really" saying is that the problem is STILL there... and therefore, if the problem wasnt solved, shouldnt we (africans who would like to visit SA) be worried?
did i just not say its safe for foreigners to move around the areas where the xenophobic attacks once took place and did i just not say the govt is still looking for ways to redress the problem which take a long time to implement? If this is not the height of ignorance i really dont know what else is honestly.

have never said that there are places 100% safe in this world, i am just pointing out that there is a xenophobic problem in SA. you should accept that instead of trying to make it look like this happens everywhere. yes, there is racism all over the world, but to see people being burned alive simply because they were africans, i havent seen often. so excuse me if what happened in SA make me ask direct questions.... and dont settle for BS answer that "everything is ok now in SA", when we all know this is not the 1st time, nor the last.
i saw the world trade centre being blown up simply because US interefered in the middle east affairs and i have watched documentaries on serial killers like Gary Leon Ridgway kill possibly over 90women simply because he had a thing for dead women. this will not be the only or last attacks in US but has that made u feel an less safe in America or made you feel like relocating?

the day Africans (in US/Europe or anywhere else in this world) are burned alive for no damn reason, then that is day i will question anyone who will come on NL to praise these places.
do something useful with yourself for once and see if this has not already happened during slavery or before human rights applied to all in Europe and USA.

In Tennessee black people were lynched for being black. Those who took their time to learn a little about US history would know this.

Do a little research on the texas legal system and check if black people are not convicted and executed for murders they didnt commit.

Are Nigerian men killing their wives for financial benefit not enough proof that these incidents occur in today's USA? We are not even talking about a stranger killing another stranger but a spouse killing another because of a patrimonial gain.

I'm not competing you. I'm trying to open your eyes. Dude is best to go to another african nation and do what you do for a living if you don't want to return to Nigeria. There are several African nations you can go and rebuild. Staying in SA is counting down the days you'll live. I'm sorry but that is the truth. That country is not safe for African. Idk why you came in defense just because I asked you a question in the beginning like as if I'm arguing with you.

Northern Nigeria isnt safe for Nigerians does it mean all over them have to vacate the country because something might or might not happen to them? and please give me just one country that is 100% safe and 100% crime-free so we all know where every African should run to and be free from any form of threat.

Some do some don't. And to those who do they are always at risk of being arrested or being killed by their rivals/ competition. Whether you make it or not your life will always be at risk because you are doing something illegal.

- the xenophobic attacks that happens every few years in SA aka racism against blacks in SA (by South Africans)
MRBrownJ:

these xenophobic attacks didnt start today. what we saw 2 months ago was just ANOTHER episode of the ongoing xenophobia of SA. it happened in 2008 where they killed 42 people, in may 2009, didnt the local business people of Khayelitsha sent letters to Somali traders threatening them if they did not move out of the area within a week? and also in 2013 where they killed countless africans in renewed xenophobic attacks? .
if it pleases you you can keep asking the same question and keep answering your own question over and over again.

- what was done to fix the problem (since you are saying that SA is safe "now"wink

1. victims were put in refugee camps until they could pick themselves up again.

2. Public authorities were placed in areas were attacks were occuring to try and maintain order and arrest perpetrators

3. Some countries sent their citizens back to their own countries.

4. The govt has promised to take more action to address the issues and implement long term solutions ( this doesnt take a day or 2 so please dont ask if anything else beyond what i have already mentioned has been done)

Whats done every
- do you think that because you dont live in these townships then there is no problem in SA? go tell that to the countless foreigners who died
There is no place on earth that is 100% safe. USA seems safe but you still have;
1. Nigerian husbands killing their Registered Nurse wives ( which seems to be a trend now)
2. Serial killers
3. Human trafficking
4. Drug trafficking
5. Nigerians commiting romance and other internet scams.
6. Gang wars
7. Spouses killing their partners to collect their life insurance money.

So as you can see safety is an issue all over the world. Should all that i have mentioned above be the a sufficient for you to relocate back home or stop other nigerians from coming to the USA? I highly doubt it.

Lets not act SA is the only country in the world where foreign nationals die or subjected to unfair discrimination against. Its a global issue

i came on this thread because, like the general population, i have heard too many stories of xenophobia and racism against Nigerians and other Africans in SA......and i want to have more info on the subject as we all know that these issues are not 2 months old. if my questions offends anyone living in SA so be it, but these are the queries i have, and need answers to. so YOU (who lives in SA) can do the needful and educate us all on SA, or be quiet and let us continue have the same negative image of SA. your call!

now if you expect us me to just nod to everything someone says without asking any question (about FACTS that are happening in SA) then you must not know me. i have a brain and i decide to use it fully! as you can see, the people who decided to educate us on SA didnt get offended by my question, they simply gave me ANSWERS.

if someone has never been to SA then they will certainly go to any website to educate themselves on the said country (Expedia/Wiki/Tripadvisor/Lonelyplanet or even NL).....and sadly, yes, crime is mentioned quite a lot.
last time u checked being one-sided is called being biased its not intelligence smiley i hope you get all the info you need.

The living standards in SA may be a little more pricey than Nigeria but they would definitely be more affordable than living in a Western country.

With $500pm you can get a luxurious apartment with security whereas in a Western country that might only get you an average shared apartment.

Food is not expensive an average person who cooks at home regularly might spend not more than $100 per month but if you are a takeaway junkie you might have to double or triple your budget.

then where exactly do you think these xenophobic issues are worst? was it not in Johannesburg (and also Durban) that the worst of the worst happened few months ago? is J/burg safe for Africans ?! what was done to fix this lingering issue about these South Africans racists who attack and kill africans (en masse) every few yrs?

btw: you didnt answer my question:" are nigerians labelled as criminals/drug dealers or not (thanks to the little few bad apples)?

Even in USA and Europe Nigerians are painted black but that doesnt make every single one of them bad now does it?

Xenophobia attacks were in the CBD in durban and other high density areas in johhannesburg and Chatsworth and that was about it.

Yes Johannesburg and Durban have gone back to normal as far as im concerned and foreigners are safe to roam around these areas.

before they used to focus on people from Zimbabwe and Mozambique, but now they blame their problems on EVERYBODY....... and the drug problem in SA is blamed on Nigerians.
you clearly came on the thread with an intention to make SA look as bad as possible and thats wh you keep insisting on this.

I have lived in SA for over a decade and i can say that if you live in surburbs and make your money legally you will not be victim to some of these things.

You cannot claim to know a whole lot more about a place you have never been to. Let me guess you get you info from selected websites on the net? And you always assume all you read is 100% true?

In that case we can all read a few websites on violence and gang wars in brooklyn and conclude that the whole of USA is filled with gangs and drug dealers undecided

If you leave your country for another in hopes that you will hustle small small and make big money in no time then you are in for a big surprise.

The best way to get a good job in SA without facing as many challenges as other foreigners face you have to have an SA certificate.

A foreign national with an SA degree will probably have a better chance than a foreign national with a foreign degree although the person with an SA degree might face some form of challenges because on the promotion of employment equity in SA.

There is something called employment equity which SA companies have to implement. They have to provide equal opportunity for blacks (africans, coloureds and indians), women and disabled citizens in their workplaces. This is a means of redressing past discrimination because of apartheid and to reduce levels on unemployment of its own citizens.
What this simply means is that they will always give preference to SA citizens before they consider foreign nationals for job opportunities.

If you have a Nigerian degree its always best you further your studies a little more in SA before you consider working there. If you are one of those outstanding students an opportunity will always come your way but if you are just an average joe you might have to sweat a little before you get the job that you really want.

So before u think you can just land in SA and start making money legally you have to keep this in mind

A man rarely wins an argument with a woman. What is the point? She will still want to have the last say. In the heat of argument, a lot of nasty things could be said that would cause irreparable damage to the relationship. It is best to keep silent and let the tension defuse, then reason things logically afterwards.
I would be rude if I walk out on her while she is talking...unless she's been yapping on for minutes on end without cease, then I would make my exit.

My dear, there is a difference between resolving issues and lashing out. Use the latter minimally for a healthy relationship. From your comments, I believe you are a tit for tat kinda person. An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind dear.
you may have been living in your own fantasy world, because in the real world you can only get what you give. If you dont like it, then its best you dont serve to others what you wouldnt want dished out to you.

Unconditional love is a myth. Even God's love comes with a condition, you have to receive it to enjoy the benefit. How ever love can be so "boundless" that it will take exceptional circumstances to test it's limits, that is when the wickedness of men's hearts start being revealed, when you begin to take advantage of the goodness of someone's heart to deceive and corrupt love.

If love was truly Unconditional you'd marry the first lady you set your eyes on, you'd marry the crazy woman on your street, you'd pick the prostitute on the roadside and make her your wife, you'd not think twice about how she can't cook/give birth/be polite, in fact you'd have absolutely no criteria for choosing a woman to marry mere sight would be enough but we all know that is not what happens is it?

Some women that know they have disgusting nagging attitude do pretend to be holy till a few days after getting to the alter. So if some guys know their woman's got that attitude in the first place, they won't get married to her. Check very well, girls that nag and don't hide it from their fiance probably do so cuz they already tied the dude down with pregnancy.

Wait lets get this clear, how is it tying a dude down, when he knows that if he has sex with a fertile woman she can get pregnant.

Its like leaving your front door open in an area where robbery is common, and then cry foul when they walk in and take you stuff.

We all know that condoms are not 100% and contraceptives may cease to walk if a woman is on other medication, so stop acting as if its entrapment when we both all know right from high school what the consequences of sex are.

I've seen a woman that hasn't even gotten to the alter, just cuz she got pregnant, she turned her man's bodyguard.

I had to leave with my sisters when they got pregnant sometimes they would throw uncalled for outbursts and their hormones and emotions will be out of place as their bodies go through drastic changes... Its not surprise pregnant women can be irrational at times.

I hate it when a man hits a woman, I haven't done it before and by God's grace I won't till I die, but I wouldn't want the whole gender equality thing to be handed down to Nigerian girls in relationship matters like the whites did to their women. Except in the case of employment because I feel women should be given equal opportunities here just like the men.
this is probably the funniest crap i have ever read in my entire life, so gender equality should only be recognised where a woman helps a man pay the bills but it should be ignored everywhere else? Is that not discrimination in itself?

My reason is, whatever we Nigerians wanna do, we do it in excess. Assuming that in Nigeria, men are sentenced to jail for hitting women, whether retaliation or not, then you will see how women will easily abuse that opportunity. That is, a man might be getting slapped for just about anything.
if she retaliates in self-defence then obviously she cannot be charged with anything but if the retaliation goes beyond defending herself she will not get away with.

I find it amusing that men always claim that the law favours women, tell me if its not mostly policemen who open dockets and file for these charges? Is it not mostly male judges that sentence this men to prison for committing crimes? Is it not mostly male government executives that pass these laws that govern society?

There's a female friend (my ex precisely) of mine i told about my business idea which required much start-up, told her about my analysis and she was like "start little and build your business all the way to the top, unless you want to do what Anambra people are known for, ritual".

I picked offence and she claimed she was only joking.. Does it make any sense joking stupidly like this? I later kept my cool tho. She didn't know I broke up with her in the past cuz I couldn't take shits like this..
wait a minute i thought it was only overly emotional women that overreact? She said it was a joke and u still took offence in it? This is a woman who encouraged you to start small, while other women will not even give someone like you the time of the day until you are already made and you decided to break up with a good woman because of a joke? Wow!

But then again im sure if u had married her and she accidentally burnt your egusi soup you would have sent her back to her parents straight, for being human.

The ideal woman is hard to find but the benefit a man will reap for that woman is enormous..
you had one and you didn't even realise it.

Guys misbehave sometimes but sometimes women can overreact.

Do you expect a pet on the back when you misbehave? Rather do u give your partner a pet on the back when she misbehaves?

I have a friend who had issues with his gf back then and she was just thrashing him without hindrance while he just ignored her and was playing video game.

So the right thing to do when someone is talking to is show how disinterested in the conversation you are and continue playing a game.

If it were your sister you were talking to ans she continued to watch her favourite reality show while you were talking to her, you would remain calm?

The girl got infuriated and just walked up to him, looked at him up and down a few times and just blurted out "See how you look like Bingo", hissed a very long hiss and walked away.

He was being disrespectful and she just treated him accordingly.

The game console just fell of his hands, I laughed so hard and that kinda defused the tension because both of them joined me in laughter later.
The guy probably would have done or said something he would later regret.
so its the girls fault that he was being rude while she was trying to converse with him?

Its always easy for men to talk about how unruly women can be, but let me ask you something. Im sure when you married her she wasn't like that because if she was you most probably weren't going to take her down the alter.

Surely if you cheat you shouldnt expect to come back home everyday to a happy home with eba and ogbono on the table for you.

Now tell us what is it that you men do that make these women turn into " tongue lashing beasts"?

You should have read a little more on Nigeria before you started posting on this thread. Durban and Cape Town are in South Africa which obviously is in Southern Africa. Nigeria on the other hand is in western Africa you cannot possibly assume that they should be the same. out of 150million plus people how many is many exactly?

Justwise made 17milluon look like a big deal.....for an enterprising Nigeria, it is not a big deal and I don't need to say more than that. An uneducated ibo will make it in lagos in 3months. Nigeria is conducive for business....

Are we talking about businesses that actually grow or small businesses that remain in the same position for a billion years.

we only need hardworking nigerians to explore our potentials not those that will run away and be discouraging the ones making it at home. tnks
you can have as many hardworking Nigerians the size of the Chinese population if you like but if the government does not support these hardworking people, there will not be much growth or development, a government is placed where it is for a reason, if it fails to function properly, the economy will go downhill anyway
