Edoyad, then maybe you really don't know a lot of clubs.

And no, what Nasri is doing is a bit different, something akin to what Adebayor did, a mix of money with other clubs.

Aribisala sorry my pentium1 is slow today. Arsenal players can't make french team? Cos they are disruptive or cos they are not good enough? Your argument is a bit all over the place.

Nasri was called up and made captain after the SA fiasco, Diaby was perhaps the only french credit at SA, once Evra was dropped Clichy was picked, Sagna is no1 on their team sheet, Koscielny is a newbie and he's already been called up, Squillacci is an old man, what exactly are you on about?!

Give it up, Gallas is a c-U-n-t, for forks sakes which self respecting man agrees to wear a c0ck on his chest. grin

In terms of 'achieved ambition' i.e the target or desired goal (all players desire to play in the CL) Adebayor possessed a higher ambition than Tevez. In terms of 'desire' - now that is far more difficult to measure.

On to other news, it appears that Arsenal did bid over £16m for Jones, but the player decided to move elsewhere. If true, it does seem AW is willing to spend money this summer, and not simply looking for bargain basement buys.

http://wearethenorthbank.com/arsenal-had-bid-for-jones-accepted/

In terms of not signing Jones, I am personally not perturbed - at £16m, that is a LOT of money to pay for effectively more 'potential'. If we can sign Samba for the same amount or less that would be a far better deal in my view. We have enough (expensive) potential at Arsenal right now.

Arsenal in reality is not somewhere to come and 'learn' how to defend - we need guys who can step in NOW and do the business, not some guys needing to gain experience.
Samba is reported to have said he was close to joining Arsenal in January. I was expecting him to be the first experienced signing in the summer. But bidding for Phil Jones kinda puts things in a different light. Will Blackburn be willing to sell another defender?

News Flash! There's no such thing as loyalty in football anymore. Players play for trophies and/or money. Even Rooney almost left United last season but for the way SAF handled the situation.
Permit me to use your own words. "Kindly tell us from your crystal ball" where we would have ended up without Fabregas? lool, (dat was just a joke but I strongly doubt we would have dropped 6 more points or more last season to finish 5th or lower)
Pay negotiation is always messy. Henry and Viera left Arsenal after they had given us everything and even at a stage we were looking forward to seeing more of Adebayour and Fabregas. In Nasri's case, this is only drawing sentiments because many feel he still has more to offer.
Agreed! again like I said earlier, if Nasri leaves Arsenal, it won't be because of money. I doubt it if he'l get 90,000pounds from any other club. Not even City.
Which three players? A player who had only played one season in league one? or Sebastian Squillaci? Asides Chamakh, none of the other two was expected to add anything to Arsenal apart from having backups on the bench. If that's ambition, I now understand why others have been bringing out dictionaries to explain the word to you, cheesy
There is still loyalty in football, if you look properly you will see it. Kaka turned down a sci-fi proportions megadeal to stay at AC Milan, vP chose to extend his contract and not go to Inter and the likes to repay Arsenal staying by him. Its not all about money and that's my main beef with Nasri.

None of these players were expected to be the first names on the team sheet. Perhaps Chamahk due to VP injury status, but definitely not the previous 2.

Nawao, Arsenal don turn people to English Professors. Should we invite Okotie to help us define ambition?

On the Nasri issue, let's leave the guy abeg. As a professional, you want to achieve the best you can in your active years. For sports men, best may mean different things to different people. Best may be money (to save for after service days) and best may be titles (to show off to friends and family).
Some are lucky cos they have both 'bests' - money and titles.

Nasri is right to bargain for higher pay, if Arsenal can't meet his demands (higher pay and/or show of ambition), he will be in his right senses to leave if he wants. I don't want him to leave but what did keeping Cesc for another year achieve for us? Would we have come fourth this season if Cesc had left last season (and we had about 30million extra in the bank)?

Alex Hleb left us and in 3 seasons, he has won over 7 medals. Something he may not have achieved at Arsenal. Same with Henry, Flamini, Toure and I'm not sure if Ade got a the FA cup medal.

Arsenal and Arsene Wenger are not showing ambition to win the league or any other prestigious title for that matter. The only positive ambition we showed last season was in trying to win the Carling Cup and it showed in us getting to the final and minutes away from winning. We deviated away from the norm of using our reserves players in prosecuting the competition, that's ambition. Now we need the boss to do same with the league and deviate from the norm of using 'unfit' players in the league/CL (Squillacci, Koscielny, Denilson, readily come to mind).
Yet again we are here. Nasri is an obviously talented footballer, we need to keep our better players, but on what grounds exactly is he asking to be one of the top earners at Arsenal?

@Mr 4llerbuntu, did you miss the part where it was mentioned he was signed for the reserves. Stop sheeting metal bars abeg. grin

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fans Thread (for Arsenal Fans) by slimshay(m): 3:05pm On Jun 07, 2011
Get it clear, I'm not into the Nasri is more ambitious than Valencia debate, but I seem to be seeing some things that seems to mean ambitious equals: transfer+bigger club +medal.

On that basis you were making a lot of sense sense until you said Sturridge has not achieved anything by going on loan to Bolton. Winning something with Bolton wasn't on the agenda in the first place. His ambition is to break into the Chelsea first team and to do it he had to go lower. Same as people like Wilshere, they could have chosen to stay and claim 'they are fighting for their place'. Yeah right.

Vela spent a few years loafing about in Arsenal, then everyone said it was because he didnt have opportunities, he refused this same Bolton then eventually he agreed to go to WestBrom, he still didnt make the cut, that shows lack of ambition. Hence, I do agree that what you do when you make the step up (or even down) that counts. But you seem to write off the ambitions of players who knowingly make the step down. Thats why I brought people like Darron Gibson into it. Seeing as he could have been the natural step up to the role of Scholes from within, where was the ambition in going out to improve himself or SAF couldnt spare him? But he has won things, so is he now ambitious?

Oh by the way, I guess Michael Owen is at the biggest he can ever get then. Oh wait, that Ballon D'Or thingy, didnt he beat one guy named Raul to it. Go figure. Ambitious isnt about age my guy. Its about conquering new fronts like you say. Michael Owen is a gambling addicted-lazy-fork! grin

the mind of a gaynner never ceases to amaze me. they never compare like for like.

--michael owen is 29 at the dusk of his career. . . .comparing him to nasri/valencia in their early 20s is laughable
--darron gibson is a reserve player. his contribution to the league title is extremely negligible.
--sturridge opting to leave chelsea is a loan move for an upcoming player. it has nothing to do with nasri/valencia who were signed to get into the first team of their respective clubs.
Comparing who, I'm saying all these silverware, bigger club definitions and analogies of ambitions is mightily flawed.

At 29 I presume Owen is allowed to say 'he'd rather sit on the bench at Old trafford than go play regularly elsewhere'. Wait, its about their ages. Gayner mind: we just cant compare like for like? Ologbeni I hope you know Mr Gibson is same age as Nasri. Oh sorry he is at the dawn of his career, we cant compare. These for you are examples of unambitious champions.

On the other hand, Sturrdige too could have chosen to play a 'negligible' part in Chelsea push, and if his form at Bolton was anything to go buy, he just might have copped a premiership winners medal for that. Yet he knew to get regular games he had to leave, seeing as Chelsea decided to put faith in a big name. Footballwise that is ambition.

Looking to get better where you are now, so you can move to the next stage that fits your improved ability.

A bigger club buying a better player in a lower club is as normal as morning coffee, what's ambitious about that? undecided
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fans Thread (for Arsenal Fans) by slimshay(m): 1:14pm On Jun 07, 2011
Wow, see all these definitions of 'ambitious' flying around. So if you leave small club to join big club it means you are straight up ambitous. Or if you have won more trophies.

Please how ambitious is Michael Owen in that light?

I bet Darron Gibson with more premiership medals is more ambitious than Cesc Fabregas.

Oh wait, Sturridge opting to leave Chelsea to go on loan to Bolton to improve his play time and hence his game is not ambitious.

#Just wondering

you are a fat fool! what ambitions has nasri got? plucked from obscurity from marseille by a french manager and yet he has nothing to show for his 3 year stint in the english league. valencia got to wigan from recreativo(a club he had single-handedly helped to gain promotion). he spent 3 yrs in wigan and made the big money move to valencia and hasn't looked back since then. . . . .from an ordinary winger in valencia to the division's best in a matter of months and winning trophies with it - that's ambition.

so nasri moving from marseille to arsenal is what you call ambition? what has he won in that period? nothing! he's so ambitious and he wants to leave that club in the top 4 and regularly in top 8 in europe when he hasn't won nada for them. one can understand henry, vieira, etc for leaving arsenal - they won quite a lot there and they wanted new challenges. . . . .a tactless nasri wants to leave a club he won nothing for and you say he has ambitions. . . . .your intelligence quotient has sunken to a new low. not even jacques cousteau can reach such depths, you ignoramus! grin

Ambition: An eager or strong desire to achieve something

i ask again. . . .what has nasri achieved? grin cheesy

About Nasri, see there is the problem. Arsenal fans don't know how to pick their heroes. They insult players who were made and and in some instances fiercely loyal to the club, claiming they are only loyal because they aren't good enough for other teams. And go mental about people we had to pay big money to bring here. Then cry foul when they set their eyes elsewhere.

@Debo, when did Nasri earn the right to demand signings in order for him to stay? I have no beef with him oh, I just hate the way he's beginning to make this about money. And Man-forking-U? He needs a new publicist!

Eldigitty, wherefore hast thou been man.

How do you define bonafide then, if they don't have the right to sell the rights to his song as he has claimed here.

The main problem as far as I'm concerned is the hapzard way these guys contracts are structured. And the so many people that end up having some form of rights to a song. From marketer, to show promoter, to the artiste, his own personal label, the bigger distribution label he has a deal with etc etc.

He won't get that much it seems, but you don't ask for the precise amount you want from the onset do you. And he is not suing Nokia X3, he is suing Nokia, the corporation itself.

Coupla new folks coming in it seems. For the price of admission. In nothing less than 500words, please state, discribe and justify your opinion of Denilson, Almunia and Diaby. . .aka Dem Whipping Boiz.

@debo, an important thing folks seem to miss when talking about this aerial, corner whatchacallit is the fact that we are talking percentages here. The reason it is high is cos we allow less chances in open play.

Hangeland/Samba etc etc might be good in clearances but how will they fare when holding a highline, playing it out from the back, recovering when the trap has been beaten. The Hangeland being postulated here is so slow its painful to watch. Hodgson could get away with so many away draws because he had them sitting tite defending deep.

Let everyone keep mentioning their preferred defender. Jus remember after defending dat corner, we still need to put it back on the deck. And the vidic/ferdinand type of defenders who can do both don't come cheap.
