Well spoted. Good question. I queried that too when I saw the re-design. The Engineer did recommend that one of the 2 bathrooms could be used for a Jacuzzi/Sauna room. I may have other ideas about that though.

I have decided to diarise my building experience involving the building of a 3 bedroom Bungalow + Penthouse at Calabar (close to Tinapa). Since i'm based in London I have decided to project manage the construction in phases by myself each time I visited Nigeria. I bought a 150 x 100 plot of land in June 2014 and visited in December 2014 to oversee the fencing of the plot. In August 2015 I visited for the excavation phase to the German floor phase before leaving. I also annexed a 50 x 50 plot next to mine during my visit (a good place to locate the 2 x 3 bedroom flat BQ, Borehole, Generator room at the back of the plot).

Features: Ground Floor
Ante-room, Lounge, Dinning room, Kitchen/ Store, 3 Bedroom (ensuite -including Visitors room), stairwell, visitors toilet.

Penthouse: Masters bedroom ensuite with balcony, Second bedroom ensuite

flexibility of precast is limited to technology available to make the mould, to lift the precast( weight is control which hamper flexibility).

you can specify the shape and design to the company

It will be a bit higher than that of the precast.... But the polystyrene is more flexible with shapes/design, faster and easier to installed than precast.

rafter don't rest on the fascia ( either insitu, precast of polystyrene). the rafter is connected to the tie beam with the help of a small strut, both are then connected to the wall plate. the sketch below will help to buttress my point

Seriously when I see the number of women on the streets of Naija with babies strapped to their backs and perhaps pulling another by the hand and a tray of groundnut or a bowl of sachet water on their heads, another in the market place with baby on the back while pushing a wheel barrow of this or that under the scorching sun. Then you come online to see men claiming they can't take care of their own babies because they work for the upkeep of their family, it beats my imagination.

So the women who work or do business and still take care of the babies are now fools? I don't even want to go into the fact that most of these men who claim too be to busy to take care of their children are actually being fed and cared for by their wives

If they are actually providing for their families as they want us to believe, those women should be at home or more conducive places doing their business with those children and not under the sun.

Real men work for their families' upkeep and still have time for their kids.

You suggested they should sell the kids, incase they don't find buyers, I suggest they sow the kids as seed of faith in their churches

please help me solve this little mystery that has been bordering me for quite a while now, last year september, i was sleeping and i was in a dream, a snake tried to attack me. i took a knife and cut the snake into two,then the head of the snake went into my belly and shocked me and i woke up from sleep with my whole body shaking

just yesterday,i was in the same sleep,something like a human being came over to my bedside in the same dream and just like the previous september fell on me, jolting me back to reality. i've never been this confused before, the last time same thing happened,i prayed and fasted over it against evil forces. now i'm having double mind, because things has been so rough for me since the demise of father last year. i am thinking of going the native way in search of solution. i just don't know what to do.

Here's the thing, an ex called me last week(my first boyfriend) to invite me to his wedding, the issue now is that I don't know if I should honour the invite, he said his wife insist he invites me(he didn't want to )I know he did love me and he was quite the model boyfriend then(he could pass for the types in mills$boons )and we have talked since the break up but I never thought he wouldn't invite me to his wedding, and now to call me to say his wife insists he invites me is kinda shocking/confusing, I always knew I would honour the invites I have the time to attend to,still I'm wondering if I should sit this one out, I partly want to go because it will be like a kind of reunion with old friends(even some who have to travel from very far for this) yet somehow, I feel like not going, he didn't sound happy to invite me, he was cold.

Here is the simple way get my estimate;
1.Know the density of filling earth/laterite
2.get the volume of laterite required to filled the foundation after back filled has been done ( the excavated earth returned and compacted). This volume is the area of each room x the height of the foundation (internal dimension between the back filled earth and top of block wall)
3. convert the volume to weight through the density relationship, and divide the weight by 1000kg to covert to tonnes. The allow about 30-40% for shrinkage as the compacted earth form into position.
4. Trucks supply laterite in 15tonnes but be assured that they will deliver less...say 10 tonnes. so, divide the result in stage three by 10 tonnes to get the number of trips required to fill your foundation

Then there is a massive hall, exactly like a church setting, where VIPs wait and press address happen. Then there is a massive office with a basement where the boss do his job.

So the traders, party members even royal highness who no dey inner circle have their place behind the 18ft tall fence.

Our architectural designs in naija is such a sham. Theres no interplay between the outdoor and indoor living spaces. We need to start designing structures with patios, gardens, natural platforms, decks, pools, turfs and hardscapes.

I grew up in hilltop residential estates and I would say "outdoor spaces" is more important to me. I want to have a place to sit in the sun and sip my morning coffee. I'm not prepared to do so at my kitchen table every morning. Maybe if I'm still renting I would. But definitely not when I build a multi-million naira house.

Dear concerned, having skimmed through these proffession, I come to realise that, the lack of respect for proffessional practice has ruined the patronage for civil engineer's . The COREN as a body has failed woefully in keeping up with proffessionalism n construction ethics. Pple. Would rather give supervision n construction of buildings to laymen, foremen, worse still experienced labourer. Hence loss of lives with a senseless judgement call. Synagogue in lagos was one among many. soon drug vendors would take delivery into there hands with d qualification of " I don dey do am since" . The bridge of practice shuld b curbed with severe penalty. Al dis houses witout proper design should b queried n levied with charges they boycotted. Long live Nigeria. Engr bimbomartins
