FIFA will continue monitoring Nigerian soccer for possible political interference despite the government backing down from threats to remove national teams from competition. FIFA was poised to suspend Nigeria from world soccer — a move also affecting club teams, referees and officials — when a peace agreement was reached Monday. FIFA spokesman Nicolas Maingot says it will "continue to monitor the situation closely." The dispute began when Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan banned the national teams and ordered a probe into alleged corruption at the football federation after the Super Eagles' early World Cup exit. Jonathan's decree breached FIFA rules which forbid governments intervening in soccer's affairs. http://www.google.com/hostednews/canadianpress/article/ALeqM5iNa3h-YqU6jHdzk-VKagWc6U8Rxw |
Cool down man. Where is your sense of humour? Is this defensive guilt i perceive? |
Nigeria's president has said the hundreds of posts on his Facebook page helped persuade him to reverse his suspension of the national football team from international competition. "I have listened to your voices," Goodluck Jonathan said in a posting on the social networking site. He had banned the team for two years after their poor World Cup campaign. He overturned his decision ahead of a Monday deadline from the football world governing body to expel Nigeria. Under Fifa rules, government interference with national teams is strictly forbidden. The president lifted the ban after the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) promised to disband and rebuild the side. "I read your comments and took them into account in the government's decision to rescind the suspension of Nigeria from international football," Mr Jonathan said on Facebook on Tuesday. The president, who only set up his Facebook page at the beginning of last week - two days before he banned the Super Eagles - has more than 76,000 Facebook followers. "I had a meeting with the NFF today and conveyed my disappointment and those of Nigerians on this page and received assurances that there will be positive changes," he said. "We must now work together to make sure that the NFF and our players do us proud in future events," he said, ending the message with his initials "GEJ". Nigeria's Super Eagles were knocked out in the group stages of the World Cup taking place in South Africa without winning a game. FROM BBC |
Oh you beat me to it poster. Well i feel like puking just staring at this vile man. Wonder who is more repulsive, sani or NAPTIP. |
Moderators i believe you owe us an explanation. Thanks. |
newgroom:Bluetooth normally forgets to take his brain with him each morning. lol. |
Sorry, just saw news all over google. So Jonathan has been made to swallow the bitter pill of pride. What humiliation |
Why is this headline news when it is yet to be authenticated. Or is this wishful thinking by the moderators? |
pete:The problem i forsee here will be ventilation. Nigerian houses are designed to be spacious to combat this problem as you know it can be boiling when the sun is up |
These are the people that should be given noational award on account of their heroic bravery. And certainly not crooks like patricia etteh. |
aguiyi:Very intelligent comments. I wonder if the president expected us to win to world cup. The writing was on the wall after the nations cup debacle. It was no surprise that the teams to flopped in the nations cup performed similarly in the world cup. Apart from Ghana who didi Africa proud. Lets just swallow the bitter pill and forget this suspension/banning nonsense. Nigeria football is corrupt. It did not get there overnight or in two years, but several years of absolute misrule. Jonathan should wake up and hands off football. The entire NFF/NFA should resign and for once allow people that know something about football manage it ie ex-international players within the last 15 years. |
akwaowoudo:This is what i call reverse toasting. Please leave my sister for me o. |
You may be surprised your idea has already been copy-righted. |
Can you share this idea with the house |
soloqy:HAHAHAHA joke of the century. Thats a good one. I wonder under which rock Lucky has crawled nowadays. Oshiomole must have been shielding him really well. It remains on record that Oshiomole has never criticized Lucky since he became governor. What a coincidence. |
Poster has not given up yet. So desirable has not been deemed unavailable. |
green is certainly not the right colour mate. |
Dont know if there is a best, the worst, Kaita, yakubu, need i say more. |
Wonder what her gown will look like. Maybe it will just hide the nippies. |
Your company looks fraudulent. Your website has no physical contact address. Only a so called post office box. Is this to facilitate absconscion after duping your prospective victim |
You gat to smoke ganja when the rain is falling |
honeric01:Well i think Travel is not your strong point. Maybe sports where you moderate. So on that ground i agree its not worth we having a debate. |
daroz:Name the roads he has tarred other than ring road. We are not talking "patch patch" or uncompleted projects AKA Siluko, airport roads, etc. The other day the Oregbeni community petitioned the contractor handling a road project in their area as the contract was abandoned after the government paid 21 out of 35 million of the budgetted amount. Tell me hospitals he has built? Doctors in Edo state are currently on strike. Or are you not aware? Mr "i live in Benin city and know it all". Tell me refurbished schools and to what extent they were refurbished. I don't want to hear chairs been donated. Or name any school he has built from scratch since coming into office. Or is it markets? And PLEASE don't even mention security. It took the Oba to rain curses before the citizens could even have a mild breathing space. |
Oshiomole remains a thug. A cannabis smoking womanizer. He was sponsored into office by the mother of all crooks lcuky igbinedion. So all these are showmanship and a grand scheme to hoodwink the gullible public. All you spokes persons on here should be ashamed of yourself. And yes its you i am talking about. |
aieromon:this is what comes out of empty skulls |
God save Nigeria if this is the type of president we have!! He seems to be thinking with the back side |
Seun:True talk. Please is there a way you can channel Nairalands views to the presidency/authorities. Nigerian leaders see themselves as demi-gods. Alfas and omegas |
Ring road is less than 10 raise to power 1000 of the land mass of Edo state. After 3 yrs in office this is all the government has to show for Billions of Naira? Pathetic. I would rather most major roads are tarred, hospitals repaired, schools refurbished, markets built and security provided than "sit-down look" an artificial city circle, that all but represent a flower blossoming but will soon die off as soon as the next government comes into office. This is not a lasting legacy. The great Prof. Ambrose Ali and Samuel Ogbemudia never wasted tax payers monies on these frivolities. But the invested on the people of the state, the result of which last for generations. |
