just be patient they will lay...just feed them well. Once the cockerel is 6 months they're are mature to mate .mine even started mating at 5 months

Firstly, irrespective of the cockerels present, your hens will lay eggs. Hens will always lay eggs whether there is a rooster or not. layers lay eggs whether you give them layer mash or not. Same goes for turkey hens, ducks etc. Now the question should be; Do you want fertile eggs or not? That's where the male comes in.

As for your local hens, just give it time. Let's say, 7-8months should be their ideal time.

I'm having some issues I bought 2 local hen on december 23 and kept them with my cockerels of 6months plus till now they haven't started laying
i don't know if the problem is with the cockerel or the hen
Is it a must for the cockerel to start crowing before they can mate with the local hen

I was using Garlic and ginger every 3 days before the outbreak of Newcastle disease
It affected 98% of my cockerel and just 2% of my kuroilers which still amazes me till now

My chicks are now okay Newcastle disease showed me the other side of poultry farming I had to succumb to the use of Tagiri extract I need a fulani male in ikorodu

I've lost about 54 chicks kuroiler plus cockerel missed their lasota vaccination symptoms:they are dropping feathers and closed eyes I guess its Newcastle and I've tried Tagiri extract just little improvement please help
