nuclearboy: Nigeria has the greatest resource of any country in Africa - Human beings! This population automatically provides the largest market for ANY goods/services on the African continent!

So what is the news here? Is it Somali that investors should rush to?

Abeg make we hear word!

Anyway what have those investments brought OUR own way?
it is still too small to be felt by the large Nigerian populace.
Btw,population alone does not determine investment inflow into a country.
A population with a low purchasing power will definitely not attract significant foreign investment.

Still very small when compared to nations like china and s.korea.
The FG should solve electricity problem and security issues as soon as possible.
We should be aiming for investments quota the scale of china and the asian tigers, given our huge population.
We should stop comparing ourselves with all these small african countries that don't have half our investment potential.

otumfour: THE ONLY PROBLEM NIGERIA HAS IS THE NIGERIAN

grin grin cheesy
Given the fact that the ultimate problem of every country is the citizens themselves,i agree completely.

Kingmojo: The only problem Ghana has with the Chinese is illegal mining and we are addressing the problem unlike Nigeria. Take a look at the problems in Niger delta it has been going on for years. We solve problems while Nigeria tend to pile it up
The chinese are not responsible for the niger-delta problem.
The only problem we have with them is their employment of cheap labour from china at the expense of Nigerians in the construction and its allied industries.

I wonder why some africans are supporting southafricans on this thread.
Do you guys think Nigerians are the only victim here?
Last month,a somali was stoned to death, while a kenyan was also beaten to death.
Well,it seems Nigerians are more concerned than others.
Smh.

Kingmojo: The same thing is going on in Nigeria, at least ghaba has the balls to deport the Chinese when they are caught but can't say the same about Nigeria.
stop deceiving yourself.
The chinese are still wrecking havoc in your country.
Nigeria does not have that much of a chinese problem per say, except in the construction industry.

chei: Nigerians are delusional. Let us look at the facts:
1. We are the most corrupt country in the world
2. We have some of the most corrupt individuals in the world
3. Our citizens are highly and likely to be involved in illegal activities wherever they go
4. We hate ourselves

These are the three primary reasons we're hated and despised by other citizens of the world. We shouldn't sit back and criticize them for hating us when we are mostly at fault and the cause of the hatred. If we're law abiding and of good character, these things wouldn't happen. Even in our country, we can't put our acts right, how do we then expect to behave properly in another country.

They're helping by treating us bad, we should look inwardly and ask ourselves deep questions first rather than slinging mud at our opponents
Seriously if i tell you what's on my mind, you will probably committ suicide.
So let me ask you a few questions;
how do what you've written above change the fact that innocent Nigerians are being victimized?.
Is Xenophobia the way to curb criminalism?
How would you feel if you were subjected to unwarranted victimization just because you are from the same country with some drug dealers?
Have you even travelled beyond Nigeria?
You are a probably an ignorant tennager somewhere in lagos.

See them insulting Sa, yet the same people were insulting Nigerien , Cameroonians and chadians because bokoharam leader is a nigerien .xenophobia is not only physical , but mental, moral, spiritual etc.

i rest my case
what nonsense are you talking about?
How many Nigeriens, chadians or cameroonians have been killed by Nigerians, you lame-brained obfuscated cameroonian?
Do you know how many Nigerian lives have been wasted by bokoharam,a terrorist group from Niger-republic?
You think if it were america or russia that were terrorised by BH, chad, cameroon and Niger-republic would not have been invaded.?
Thank you stars that Nigeria is not an aggressor nation, else those three countries would have annexed.

Wallie: Calm down! There's no reason to get emotional. No one denies the potential that Nigeria holds. But Nigeria's case is like that of gifted athlete that could have made it to the world stage but keeps messing up and never moved past the local league. I'm sure we all know of a brilliant classmate in high school that we run into later in life only to comment on how intelligent the kid was back then!

Wasted talent/gift is worse than not having the talent/gift in the first place.
I am not worked up.
I am deligted actually.
We've gained next to nothing from being america's stooge and i've always advocated that we move eastwards.
I am just happy for this decision that's all.
As for the rest of your post, yes you are correct that Nigeria keep short-changing herself.
But even at that,Nigeria is still a major voice on the african continent and a key US ally.
It's absolutely stupidd to embarass Nigeria like that.
What they should have done was to hold a closed door meeting with the president and voice their concerns.
Imagine the secretary of states of america publicly chastising Nigeria during the state of emergency.
I was stunned.
Who does to that to an "ally"?.
Even the CNN was critical of the secretary of state for that diplomatic blunder.
Who cares,anyway?
America's lose.

Wallie: There are some many ignorant people on this thread it's not even funny! There's nothing wrong in being proud of one's own or even being overly enthusiastic but one has to inject a semblance of reality!

Obama skipped Nigeria because Nigeria is perceived to be regressing. Do you guys also realize that he's skipping Kenya? Do you know why? The democratically elected Kenyan president, Uhuru Kenyatta, is currently facing charges of crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The foreign policy is simple. Do not encourage/reward bad behavior from foreign leaders. Do you know that as staunch an ally the US is to Israel, Obama did not visit Israel until a couple of months ago?

I head a commentary today on the News about a new push to stop lumping the African continent together when investment opportunities are spoken of. The investors realize that there are some countries that are truly reformed and provide a great atmosphere to invest. Countries mentioned were South Africa, Ghana and Tanzania. I wonder why the so-called giant of Africa is missing!

Lastly, you guys seem to think that the US will lose out if Nigeria is ignored. My question is lose out on what exactly, oil? Look at the oil import trend from Nigeria and you decide:

2007
413,932 Annual-Thousand Barrels

2008
361,659 Annual-Thousand Barrels

2009
295,310 Annual-Thousand Barrels

2010
373,297 Annual-Thousand Barrels

2011
298,732 Annual-Thousand Barrels

2012
161,42 Annual-Thousand Barrels

what the fucck are you talking about?
Nigeria alone accounts for 13% of the FDI in africa, the highest in africa and is estimated to even get bigger.
Nigeria growing at the rate of 7.2%,which is probably the highest in africa.
Nigeria is already positioned to be the largest economy in africa in the nearest future.
Nigeria is far more pivotal in africa than those countries you listed and it will be a collosal mistake for american interests in africa, if they let Nigeria go east-ward.
The advisors in obama's cabinet must be cretinns.
Anyway,i am happy that Nigeria is finally moving east thanks to america shooting themselves in the foot.
We should be looking to join the BRICS.
