Zaha cautions Ebere about the dangers of opting to play for England ahead of Nigeria
Nigerian Watch Feb 12, 2021 12:00 PM

IVORIAN winger Wilfried Zaha has warned his Crystal Palace team mate Ebere Eze that he will be making a grave mistake opting for England ahead of Nigeria at international level as the Three Lions will not guarantee him any longevity.

Ebere, 22, has been the subject of a tug of war between Nigeria and England, with both nations desperately fighting for the services of the mercurial playmaker. Having already played for the England U21 team competitively, Ebere will need to undergo a switch through Fifa before he is eligible to feature for Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

It appears that Ebere may be holding out for a senior England call-up and if manager Gareth Southgate caps him, that would end the matter. Already, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) president Amaju Pinnick has met with Ebere in London and Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has asked the player to apply for Fifa clearance before he can invite him to camp.

With Eze, the mercurial playmaker still undecided, Zaha has warned him that opting for England would be a grave mistake as he would be used once or twice and dumped. Recalling his own experience, Zaha, said he was used in two friendly matches against Sweden in 2012 and Scotland in 2013 and that was the end of his international career with England.

After not hearing from England for over three years, Zaha subsequently applied for a Fifa switch and after it was granted, featured for Ivory Coast in the 2017 African Cup of Nations. Since then, Zaha has gone on to win 18 caps for Ivory Coast, scoring five goals in the process, making him one of the mainstays of the Elephants’ attack.

Zaha said: “It was like I was rejected from the England side as I did not get picked or even get a look-in for your years. Four years is a long time, so it is not like there is no regret at all.

“No one even thought about me at all. With Ivory Coast, even though I told them no, they still had the belief in me and still wanted me because they knew what I could do for the team, so as for me not playing for England, I have no regrets at all and I’m happy with the decision I made.”

Eze and Zaha are arguably Crystal Palace’s best two players, helping the team to 13th in the English Premier league table. Between them, the two forwards have scored 12 of Palace’s 27 goals so far this season.

Waldrum invites Ucheibe, George, Payne, 20 others for Turkish Women’s Cup
11th February 2021

Reigning African champions Nigeria will land in Antalya on Monday to participate in the fifth edition of the Turkish Women’s Cup taking place 15th – 24th February.

Why is Oparanozie missing? Happy for the new additions from our league and for Tony Payne and Patricia George.

But

It is the first run-out for the Super Falcons, who reached the Round of 16 at the 8th FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in France in the summer of 2019, since being shockingly edged out of the race for the Tokyo Olympics by Cote d’Ivoire penultimate autumn.

It is also the first call of new Head Coach, American Randy Waldrum, with the squad he is expected to mould into credible competitors for honours at global level.
Ukraine, Serbia, India, Bulgaria, Uzbekistan and Equatorial Guinea are among teams confirmed so far for the 10-day tourney, though Tokyo Olympics-bound Zambia have pulled out for undisclosed reasons.

Nine-time African champions Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea’s Nzalang Nacional have been lumped into the same pool alongside Uzbekistan, with the Guineans handed an opportunity to address a 6-0 spanking by the Nigerians in the group phase of the 2018 Women Africa Cup of Nations finals in Ghana.

Also known as the Alanya Gold City Cup, the tournament ranks as one of the more notable events on the women’s football calendar worldwide.

The Falcons will aim to become the first African side to triumph at the tournament, following the third pplace finish by Ghana’s Black Queens last year. Chile won the trophy with Hungary as runner-up.

Poland (2017) and France (2018 and 2019) are the other previous winners of the Alanya Gold City Cup.

Nigeria’s Head Coach Waldrum has invited 23 players, mostly from the group that reached the Round of 16 at the World Cup in France, including goalkeepers Tochukwu Oluehi and Chiamaka Nnadozie, defenders Onome Ebi and Chidinma Okeke, midfielders Rita Chikwelu, Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene and Halimatu Ayinde, and forwards Gift Monday, Rasheedat Ajibade and Asisat Oshoala.

23 FALCONS FOR ALANYA GOLD CITY CUP

Goalkeepers: Tochukwu Oluehi (C.D. Pozoalbense, Spain); Chiamaka Nnadozie (Paris FC, France); Christy Ohiaeriaku (Edo Queens)

Defenders: Onome Ebi; Glory Ogbonna (Edo Queens); Osinachi Ohale (Madrid CFF, Spain); Mariam Ibrahim (Nasarawa Amazons); Chidinma Okeke (Madrid CFF, Spain); Habeebat Akinwande (FC Robo)

Midfielders: Rita Chikwelu (Madrid CFF, Spain); Esther Sunday (ALG SPOR, Turkey); Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene (Eskilstuna, Sweden); Antoinette Payne (Sevilla FC, Spain); Halimatu Ayinde (Eskilstuna, Sweden); Christy Ucheibe (SL Benfica, Portugal); Patricia George (Sands FC, Germany)

Forwards: Asisat Oshoala (FC Barcelona, Spain); Uchenna Kanu (Linkopings, Sweden); Rasheedat Ajibade (Atletico Madrid, Spain); Francisca Ordega; Chinwendu Ihezuo; Gift Monday (FC Robo); Charity Adule (SD Eibar, Spain)
The defense is very few. Just 5 players?
Also Oparanozie is missing. Love the Tony Payne and Patricia George additions and those from our local league

Fulham Defender Adarabiyio Drops Surname, EPL Commentator Confirms Switch From England To Nigeria
Owngoalnigeria Feb 10, 2021 3:11 PM

Fulham defender Tosin Adarabiyio now wants to be called Tosin without the inclusion of his surname, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Full name Abdul-Nasir Oluwatosin Oluwadoyinsolami Adarabiyio , the 23 year old who joined Fulham on a permanent deal in the summer now wishes to be called Tosin according to one of his representatives.

“If you observe he now uses Tosin instead of Adarabiyio on his jersey. That is how he wants to be called for now. It’s a lot easy for everyone that way I guess. So it’s nothing like a name change”, he told Owngoalnigeria.com.

Meanwhile during the course of Fulham’s last game in the English Premier League one of the commentators of the game said Tosin has switched his allegiance to Nigeria

The move which has been on the cards for a while according to several reports will no doubt prove to be a master stroke for the senior national team of Nigeria considering his performance for Fulham this season.

Rohr should leave out a guy that is responsible for 8 of our last 11 goals in our last 6 games?

Our last six games:

1. AfconQ: Nigeria 2-1 Benin - Osimhen scored a goal (Pen). Other goal by Kalu.

2. AfconQ: Lesotho 2-4 Nigeria - Osimhen with 2 goals + 2 assists

3. Friendly: Algeria 1-0 Nigeria - Osimhen not available.

4. Friendly: Nigeria 1-1 Tunisia - Iheanacho scored. Osimhen not available.

5. AfconQ: Nigeria 4-4 S/Leone - Osimhen with 1 goal + 2 assists before his injury which kept him out and partly led to us collapsing that day.

6. AfconQ: S/Leone 0-0 Nigeria - Osimhen not available.

Summary:

✔️Goals scored: 11
✔️Highest Goals Involvement: Osimhen with 8 (4 goals + 4 assists)

As long as Osimhen is available and fit... Please we cannot afford to leave him out especially not against Benin Republic away.

Note: I am not saying the others aren't good enough to step in but it's always best to have your finest weapons if they are indeed available. Onuachu may be our highest goals banger in Europe but truthfully Osimhen remains the Best #9 we have.

I will like to hear everyone’s opinion on this new inclusions in our national team and the effect it would have on our starting line up and players we have already.
Will the inclusion of Ovid ejaria affect etebo’s place in the team. Who are the 2 new defenders going to displace in the team.
I want everyone’s opinion.
Ovie's inclusion will bring more competition in that midfield. Etebo should be alert. Lookman will soon be the new no 7 and could force Ahmed Musa to retire. Adarabioyio and Tourinagha will soon displace Ekong and Balogun.

the reason why I would be happy is the potential additions of Lookman, Tosin, Jordan and Ejaria. Lookman will most definitely add quality to our attack plus he's still improving. Ademola Lookman, Ovie Ejaria, Ike Ugbo, Three Others Cleared To Play For Nigeria
AdemetanAbayomi Jan 27, 2021 3:35 PM
Fulham winger Ademola Lookman has reportedly been cleared to play for Nigeria.

The paperwork to secure the international future of the Charlton Athletic product has been on the adminstrative desk of FIFA for sometime.

The good news is that the in-form winger will eventually play for Nigeria ahead of England, whom he featured for at youth levels.

Reading playmaker Ovie Ejaria will also be available to play for Nigeria from all indications.

Ike Ugbo who is on loan to Cercle Brugge from Chelsea is another player whose application was successful.

Others players who reportedly had their application granted are Hertha Berlin's Jordan Torunarigha, Tosin Adarabioyo (Fulham) and Sheyi Ojo (Cardiff City).

Hertha Berlin's Torunarigha is a left footed libero who shows great strength at the back. He is dreaded by German Bundesliga defenders.

Tosin Adarabioyo is another fast rising defender who peppers striker in the Premier League. The Manchester City product is on the books of Fulham.

An official statement from the Nigeria Football Federation on this development will soon be made public.

Fulham Star Ademola Lookman- No Going Back On Decision To Swap England For Nigeria, Adarabiyio Clocks In As Well
Owngoalnigeria Jan 21, 2021 9:17 AM

Fulham rave of the moment Ademola Lookman won’t turn his back on his application to switch allegiance from England to Nigeria at senior international level.

According to Tunde Adelakun, the chief scout of the coach of the senior national team Gernot Rohr, they are waiting for FIFA to complete the process of the switch before handing him a call up.

“Lookman has applied for the switch and all the documents are in order,” Adelakun said, as per AOI last year.

“It’s a positive step forward when he made his commitment to Nigeria and we are just waiting for a Fifa clearance.

“Once the go-ahead is sorted, it will be up to coach Gernot Rohr to decide if his club performance would earn him a call-up”.

His form with Fulham were he is on loan from German side RB Leipzig has led to talks of the 22 making a u-turn on his earlier decision which was made while he was struggling to make an impression with RB Leipzig.

That notion has been squashed by a representative of the forward “ No going back on that. I’m not sure it’s even possible to halt the process without any strong reasons. All documents from Lookman have been signed it’s about FIFA and the English FA doing their own bit”, he said.

He went further to say same situation holds for Lookman’s teammate at Fulham Tosin Adarabiyio who has also indicated his interest to play for Nigeria at senior level despite representing England at various age grade levels.

“ Tosin is in as well and the expectation is that his own won’t take much time like Lookman since he didn’t play in any competitive game or tournament for England at youth level “.

NFF Want Special Consideration From FIFA For Fulham Star Ademola Lookman To Be Part Of Squad For AFCON Qualifiers
Owngoalnigeria Jan 16, 2021 11:04 AM

A chieftain of the Nigeria Football Federation says the football house has appeal to FIFA to allow Fulham star Ademola Lookman play for Nigeria while the await the final step of his clearance.

Lookman has already applied to switch allegiance to Nigeria from England since 2019 but a combination of issues like the lockdown brought about by the coronavirus pandemic has stalled the process.

The lengthy process usually takes around a year to complete for players who have played for England at youth levels due to the fact that all football associations under the United Kingdom totalling five need to sign.

For now not all have signed the document from FIFA due to issues mentioned above and the Nigerian FA want special consideration for Lookman, like they got when the process of Kevin Akpoguma’s switch from Germany was hurried through to enable him make his debut for Nigeria.

“ We have gotten permission from Rohr to quicken the process because he is keen on having him for the games in March. On our part we have specially written to FIFA to grant our wish since the player in question have already started the process. We hope to get a response soon”, he said.
