If I may ask, what is Islamic banking? What are the pros and cons, compared to secular banking? In my view, there should be no restrictions regarding banking system the bank chooses to adopt, customers should be able to make an informed choice between a secular bank and an islamic bank, that is all. What has a cardinal got to do with whatever method people choose to keep their money? |
Cheap talk from the good governor. We should be hearing how he is going to revamp the 6 -3-3-4 system of education rather than encouraging parents to force their children to waste their their time in wayside carpenter's sheds. He needs to support standard companies or shops to awArd contracts and grants to enable students to use those places as part of the 6-3-3 education scheme. We need to review why the 6-3-3-4 education program failed and resuscitate it. Forcing your child to roadside vocation centers is a recipe for failure in life. |
I very much doubt the validity of these population projections. Naija's death rate is growing fast with lowering life expectancy. Economic decline has reduced capacity for more kids. What we need is more border control as well as population reduction programs. Most of the huge figures are illegal migrants from neighboring countries. We need to reevaluate who is a Nigerian and pull out of the ECOWAS pact of free movement, repatriate illegal aliens and monitor borders more closely. Govt need to do this urgently otherwise we are doomed. We are taking our brother's keeper role too far. The true Nigerian population will not be more than 60 to 70 million now. Check out how many votes were cast despite heavy rigging in the last elections. The time for immigration to act is no!! |
Thanks, Nagoma. Tell us how the word Abuja came to be. Am. All ears. Ova!! |
My God! Christy was just 51 years! So sad. What was the cause death? Can someone give us a brief biography? We all know her for her beautiful songs, her golden voice and beauty, but I hardly knew her life story. May her transformation be peaceful. Amen! |
Visiting underprivileged is good but we should expect more from a governor. I recommend he starts calling for a disability support programme for such people of Lagos state. He can study prototype programs in developed countries where NGOs are awarded contracts to provide care and support for these persons. Govt role would be to provide guidelines, policies and standard of care required as well as monitor their performance, and audit accounts. Funds come from special taxes and donations from the public and international agencies It is a huge project, but the time to start is now! |
It is paradoxical that we blame critics for accepting positions with govt. People who are critiquing govt should step in and make good the system they are criticizing If they cannot perform, they should resign and tell us why they are leaving. If they are corrupt then we know they were were just criticizing to get a chance to steal. Let us os see what Rueben can do, Although his position leaves him no executive powers, so it is hard to judge his performance, but we can judge his honesty by his bank account and his properties while in office |
@ akigbenaru Please stop misinforming people and fueling tribalism and Yoruba narcissism. No yoruba man formed Nigeria to begin with. Herbert Macuallay was the most patriotic Nigerian ever, and he lived and died making nigeria one strong nation, fought against Awolowo's tribal and narcissistic attitude. He would definitely never accept Nigeria to be called Odua republic and never work with people of your type. Please Akigbenaru, be more patriotic, and keep your tribal attitude and Yoruba narcissism private. NL members please click here to read about the life and times of this noble Nigerian, Herbert Macuallay, who fought against tribalism. We need to have a Macuallay Day to celebrate the life of this Genius. Click here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbert_Macaulay |
Nagoma, you giving us free lectures on Nigerian history. Thanks. I really appreciate. I think we need more of this kind of information to stimulate patriotism and a zeal to make Nigeria a great nation. |
@nagoma Thanks for the info. Quite educative. This should bring the thread to an end. Lol |
@Norrisman NYSC exemption can also be granted on the basis of health reasons as well. Before claiming Mrs Madueke's NYSC exemption certificate is illegal, please check out the reason for the exemption , before you get sued for libel or slander. |
Actually the Jews are as mean as the Muslims in meting out justice. Look at the harsh laws of Moses, so called Ten Commandments. It is actually documented that the Jews influenced the Muslims in originating the Sharia laws and the I'll treatment of women. Remember the bible story of attempts to stone an adulterous woman to death by thews, and Christ questioned their Authority to do so? Moses was one of the harshest dictators of all times. A strategist no doubt but uncaring of human life. Christ was so different from them, and that is why they connived with the Romans to have him killed. The Jews are hiding behind America who are blinded by old testament accounts of the Jews' entitlement to God's inheritance. Time we know who they really are. |
Enough of the profitability. How about the risks, challenges and the cons? |
Tallness shows a wide variation, and little,to do with character or the size of the manliness. Do not be deceived that they are bigger downstairs ; there is no objective evidence for those claims Anything extreme has it's own drawbacks. So if u are not a tall man there is always a lady for you. Just be patient, poster. |
@maxpro xl You are missing the whole point. Xtianity is not about how much wealth you acquired but how many lives gained and saved from poverty, disease and ignorance. That is the point of the story of the Temptation of Christ, and the statements share a coat with one who has none, and you cannot serve God and money. In a country with so much poverty disease and ignorance, how many souls has pastor Oyedepo educated , paid their medical bills, helped to become financially independent? For a pastor this should continue to be a burning passion in his life, and it is never too late to begin. |
To me, it is not the " action" in the movie that matter but the capacity of the movie to recite a feeling of "realness" the quality of the acting that counts. There need not be physical fights in the films as such. Check out many of Oscar winning movies from abroad. These kinds of films cost a lot in terms of material resources and quality actors to make it real, eg james Cameron's Avatar or The Aviator. Nigeria is not yet capable of these kind of films. So for now let us enjoy what is affordable. Maybe in the next 30-50 years perhaps. Think of how old Hollywood is! |
@poster: I presume the root of the conflict was your dislike for fans ?, too noisy? You need to consider alternative cooling systems in the home. Otherwise this will arise again whatever decision you take regarding your wife's status. I recommend you two settle the issue amicably, and pls forgive her. She had apologized, first time and she could not tolerate the prospect of bearing the heat. I cannot myself. May be an opportunity to get a better TV, on a positive note. |
other people's money !!!!!!!! |
At one time or the other , there is a prophet of doom; the bible writers were careful not to pinpoint any paricular day but to keep telling us it is going to be soon. THis is a form of terrorism to keep people affraid and keep them in teh straight and narrow way. Scientific observations indicate no such day coming up soon. There are no large asteriods seen coming on direct collision with earth in the near future To me these prophecies are just the machinations of a mind plagued with negative thinking, hatred for the human race and perhaps a deliberate attemtpt to scare people into submission to their will. The earth and the solar system will ultimately come to an end when the sun uses up its hydrogen gas at its core and expands to form a red giant star to our earth, but that is estimated to be about five billion years time. Always check with NASA before getting scared about any prophecy of doom. God had created the universe and our earth is our home. We are just transient creatures in the path of evolution, and God does not get angry with us as we do weith ourselves but has granted us freeedom of choice of lifestyle and had put in place the lwas of nature - that whatever we do has consequences. The choice is ours to make the world a happy place or a place of torture. We shoudl also understand the delicate balance of nature, living vreatures and our survival . |
Yar’Adua scandal: Investigation reveals that ex-president died poor, without building a house of his own By HENRY UMAHI Sunday, May 15, 2011 Last week, when the Federal Government and, indeed, Nigerians marked the first anniversary of the death of the late President Umar Musa Yar’Adua, not many knew that for the family, there was not much to cheer about the former number one citizen of the country. This is so because he did not leave anything, in terms of material acquisitions. Uncompleted building in his name advertisement For many, this will appear shocking, going by the positions Yar’Adua held. But it’s true. Yes, between 1999 and 2007, Yar’Adua was the governor of Katsina State. While in office, he was hardly in the news. The reason being that apart from his health challenges, he was not given to rabble-rousing or attention seeking. After his eight years as governor, Yar’Adua became president in 2007. Even as president, he still maintained a low profile and austere lifestyle. All these are common knowledge. But what many may not know is that despite all the years he was in high public offices, controlling enormous public resources, Yar’Adua did not build or buy even a single house. While his colleagues were acquiring magnificent mansions all over the world, he was contented with the family inheritance. Saturday Sun investigation in Katsina revealed that the late president had only one house when he was alive. The house, it was gathered, was a gift from his late elder brother, General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua. It is located in the Government Reserved Area (GRA), Katsina, near the Customs and Excise office. Checks revealed, however, that while Yar’Adua did not build a house, his wife, Turai, acquired one when the former president was governor. The property, a white bungalow, located on Queen Amina Road, Katsina, is where the former First Lady and her children now live. Sources revealed that before Yar’Adua died, some friends and associates, apparently scandalised that the president of the country did not have a befitting house, was building one for him behind Katsina Government House. The project, an elegant duplex, which is only waiting for fittings, was abandoned shortly after his death last year. Those close to Yar’Adua told Saturday Sun that the late president’s simple lifestyle was legendary. Particularly, they say that he was not infested with the theft syndrome. They linked this to his background, having grown up in a family, where his grandfather and father, though comfortable, did not believe in excessive wealth. It was gathered that when Yar’Adua was governor, he could hardly be distinguished from ordinary folks. Top government officials in the state, who worked with him when he was governor, revealed that the late president used to stroll out of the Government House to maitaba (cigarette shop) to buy Benson and Hedges cigarette. They said that he would light the cigarette and smoke leisurely, as he returned to his office or residence. Offering insightful perspectives into Yar’Adua’s life, a former aide, who wished to be identified simply as Alhaji Bako, said: “When he was governor, he used to send his caps for re-treading, due to old age. Rather than buying caps all the time, which he considered a waste, he used to send his worn caps to be refurbished. He was that sort of person.” Bako also said: “At the time Yar’Adua started to campaign for the office of president, he did not have more than 10 pairs of babanriga. It was a Katsina businessman, who sewed dozens of babanriga and gave to him. Even things as ordinary as clothes meant nothing to him.” http://odili.net/news/source/2011/may/15/509.html Your comments please |
@werepeter. Absolutely right! But the issue is good police recording which helped to trace the original car owner, is the keystone of the story here. Also interesting is the preservation of the car with a higher value today than when stolen |
SAN Oluwole Aluko had taken legal action against the federal government, challenging the legality of the NYSC . I think he is right. NL members what do you think? Click link for details. http://odili.net/news/source/2011/ay/13/608.html |
I don't believe Obama and his security team watched the operation live. What if it went wrong. It is very likely the film came In soon after the operation, and Obama called up his team to see. Reprisals against the USA may happen later but for now, alqueada leaders would be on the run. A program of systematic elimination of the terrorist leaders needs to occur to rid the organization of it's power to strike. Obama needs to learn from what happened to Cassius and Brutus after they executed Julius Caesar and left Mark Anthony and Octavius alive |
It is said that those whom the gods want to destroy they first make mad. Gaddaffi should have removed his family from such high risk areas like his homes, but he does not care for them. He started the war let him finish it. The world should be rid of such psychopathic leaders. |
QUOTE FROM JARKBAUER all of you are fools.the usual baseless rants on nairaland.Sanusi is moving Nigeria in the direction of the rest of the world, cashless, you are saying.jargon.useless mofos MY POST Jarkbauer This is not true you don't get taxed for withdrawing your money from any bank overseas. Someone withdrew 10000 Australian dollars equivent of 1.6million naira and sent it via western union to naija with no questions asked last two weeks. Besides nigeria would not have developed adequate alternative money transfer systems such as e transfers in all shops and companies by 2012 The issue is nigerians would stop putting money in the banks and store them at home to avoid tax; the banks would be the ones to suffer. The offshoowould be increased armed robbery. Simple as that . Sanusi is considering a stupid decision that would not even see the light of day in view of election times , GEJ would not approve this kind of rubbish. Overseas you do not need to carry cash because your atm card can be swiped to pay for any items at any time and you got a reliable credit card system. YOu can transfer money using internet to pay for any goods or service at anytime anywhere but the cash has to hold true before u can pick up the items; they have got postal orders, drafts, reliable checks etc to transfer money. But if you wish to pay cash of any amount, most businesses are happy to accept |
GEJ's choice of colours is too dark for his complexion. Since he is president of a multicultural society, he should try some of the dressing of the other major tribes and occasionally western attire in international meetings, like when he visited Obama. This may be a way to show he is president not only for the Ijaws but for all naija. Look at the beautiful dress style of Herbert Macuallay at UK meetings, for instance. |
Although this video clip does not provide irrevocable evidence of multiple thumb printing of ballot papers because we are unable to actually see what the woman alleged to be thumb printing multipe times was doing, there is enough to suspect that was what she was doing, spending so much time there with two other people around her. I thought INEC procured some machines that were supposed to accept only one finger print at a time. Were they not used in this election? |
lagerwhenindoubt:This is shocking to hear that Oshomole owns such a big mansion worth billions of naira and pretends to be humble. Are u sure of this? Where did he make such an enormous amount of money from?. There might also be some other properties hiding and secret accounts too. Shame on Oshomole. If this is true, he is the Napoleon of George Orwell's Animal farm. |
In 1993 IBB and the then chairman of the Electoral Commission, Professor Humphrey Nwosu developed a unique election process called Option A4 and it yielded the freest and fairest election Nigeria ever had . Unfortunately the draconian IBB cancelled the famous JUNE 12 Elections. This method of election was designed to forestall election frauds and corruption practices, because you are made to line up behind the poster of your candidate outside. The people are counted and then you go in and vote and then disparity between the counts outside and the ballot papers indicate fraud. it sounds primitive and time consuming but it was so successful at all stages of the elections. You are also supposed to have stood election at your ward, local govt and state levels at the primary levels. Gowon was knocked off by a relatively unknown candidate at the local govt level and he had never had the gut t try again since then Somebody like GEJ may have problems at his base with this method. What do you NL members think of this method been revisited ? |
Weneed to carefully plan our energy sources and make sure that at least fifty percent is renewable and self sustaaninable in view of the fact that oil based sources of energyare not renewable and would contribute to global warming, air pollution and the attendant problems. We need to consider seriously vast sources of solar energy to provide at least 30 percent of our energy sources. However the main reason for failure of our energy sector is corruption ; they have just found a reason not to develop the nuclear energy any further and steal all the money allocated for this program me. Shame shame shame on them |
Demdem: Demdem:Gbam! Well said. Obviously the presidency and pdp were worried about a free and fair election not going their way,\. But Jega was still inefficient at the task. Look at the way IBB and Humphrey Nwosu conducted the 1993 elections successfully. It just takes seriousness and a willingness to achieve success on the part of govt and the agency in charge to determine they want a free and fair election and it would be done. Like u said it is more than logistics but we know Nigerians are so ineficient at task because the leaders are too corrupt to encourage success, Nigeria ought to be one of the easiest countries to govern because of our tendency to bootlick and follow follow attitude; never challenging authorities because of fear and unawareness of rights. A determined leader can do a lot and encourage a huge followership. See how people like Oshomole in Edo state and Fashola in Lagos are trying their best. Corruption is still the root of this disastrous election process and Jega is not just up to speed here |
