All this is caused by GEJ who had refused to respect the rules of his own party by which he came to power. After a brief taste of power he is so desperate to continue that he is not willing to give up and respect his own party arrangement of zoning of the presidency. He should respect and pull out of the race. This is a common problem with Nigerian leaders. He had not even done anything that would make us support his presidential bid anyway. GEJ SHOULD STEP DOWN from the race. Zoning may not be the best but the party had agreed to use it as a means of producing candidates and GEJ a chief beneficiary should do the honourable thing. He is doing the same thing we complained about late Yar'Adua. |
Being sincere and humble is good But Nigeria needs a dynamic person who is really serious about uplifting our plight and placing us in vantage position among nations; a person who is ready to act who believes the time is now to make Nigeria a great nation just like what Fashola and Oshoimoile are doing in Lagos and Edo states respectively Not just a man who is humble sincere but not ready to put Nigeria up GEJ is not my man ; he is not a visionary ; he has learnt too much from late Yar'Adua. He should go home and relax |
This is a fair price for this car It is about twenty eight thousand us dollars But what is the mileage |
zoning is only an issue for PDP Other parties are there to choose from |
such a statement by GEJ is good for campaigning as an opening gambit but it needs to be further embelsihed by staements lik I have always dremed of a better nigeria where there is no poverty good governance etc etc and here i am willing and to deliver as it is this statement is a political death sentence particularly when it is backed up by a poor performance and lack of ingenuity and no zeal to perform |
This is basically a manifestation of western hypocrisy If Assange had released Iran's secret documents or Chinese documents and he is been hunted by Iranian or Chinese govt, they would style him a democrat , a hero and provide him the best asylum in the UK. Now that they are under fire they are doing the same thing to Assange that the Chinese or Iranian would have done. Shame on the west!!! |
I wish Governor Oshomoile the fortitude to bear the lose. He is so emotionally strong; despite his sick wife the CComradehad been working so hard to keep Edo state back on track. There is reward in good work, but death is so insensitive. Take heart and God's blessings Comrade |
Brillant designs but I think Lagos and Nigeria would benefit more if you use these great talents to design electricity generating schemes and water and sewage disposal ideas of a cost effective nature rather than these ideas that are for the 23rd century Nigeria I enjoyed the beautiful visual dreams anyway Great |
i do not agree that Assange 's action in releasing those information was anything wrong. We have the right to know what our leaders are up to before the third world war begns. Imagine Australia 's former prime minister Kevin Rudd advising Hilary Clinton as US foreign minister to use force against China. Wikileaks revealed that recently. Can this not lead to danger for all of us; is this terrorism or is it not for our ow self protection to know what they are up to, these blood thirsty leaders. And Kevin Rudd used to claim to be a friend of China and even speak a chinese language. If they wait to keep thier cables secret they better know how to safeguard them or else Wikileaks will release it for us to see. I pray for his safety and thank Assange for the good job he is doing |
Too bad. Uniben medical school used to be one of the standard bearers of medical schools in the 1980s. @Wacky31, the students would be transferred to other universities where they may have to drop one claiss or join at the level they were to complete their education/training. Lecturers may have to find their way. Similar thing hapened to Ekpoma university medical school in the 1980s and the students had to come to uniben to complete their training. Uniben would be able to get back on track later on . It is just such a shame |
Basically infrastructure like electricity, good roads, water supply , as well as safety andreduction in crime and corruption are the ingredients for economies like Nigeria to grow A high company income tax in a country lacking these factors may be discouraging to would be investors, this one way of reducing the cost of doing business for the companies as well. A low income tax can make companies tolerate the difficulties associated with doing business in Nigeria. That is the background of Atiku's plans. Atiku as a matter of urgency needs to articulate a rapid programme for establishing energy generation and distribution as well as transport infrastructure which he rightly mentioned in his speech/ I think he has a good strategy that needs further development with a crack team that he needs to put together Corruption is another major battle he needs to fight as well because it is one of the main reason why the infrastructural facilities are not working. Apart from corruption it is hard to understand why electricity generation good roads and crme control is such a big problem in Nigeria. Perhaps we need western supports, supervision in these things; He needs to reform the indigenisation policy that has held us back over the decades. I guess the key issue is that he needs to come out with workable efficient infrastructural reform plan as well economic reforms then we can begin to take him seriously. No one can be sure of his willingness, seriousness of purpose or how much reformation he has made of himself in terms of eschewing corruption But as we know a leopard cannot change its spots. |
OBJ 's laughter is a sign of his folly. Here is a man who made the most tragic decisions for Nigeria over the years. He began the indigenisation policy in the 1970s that cut us off supports from the west that led to the long route to poverty and hunger tat we still find ourselves today. It was his govt that formulated the draconian anti-coup decrees that led to the death of people like Vatsa, General yaradua and even landed him in prison as well. He single handedly selected a sick man to rule us and what happened to Yar'adua at last. He deliberately selected GEJ because he saw in him a weak man who has no political base and cannot challenge Yar'Adua. He had persecuted and disgraced Atiku for no just cause over the years. The northerners have decided to give Atiku a chance for his doggedness and serious intentions to lead Nigeria. I wish him the best in his campaign to realise his dreams and if he does not succeed, well , so be it. At least John McCain and Hilary Clinton are still alive and well. OBJ is too full of himself. He suffers from Narcissistic personality problems and attention seeking behaviour. He lacks decorum and too''' bush ''even in public. Blowing into a vicks inhaler in such a bizzarre manner in public glare is a disgrace to his status as a statesman who is supposed to show examples to others on public behaviour. Will a Yoruba Chief or Oba behave the way he did? Sniggering at another man's success is a sign of rudeness, jealousy and ''bad belle'' as we put it in Warri pidgin English. He should stay off Nigeria's politics; as he has had nothing useful to offer us. |
This is a very good outcome of the court decision. The hospital would benefit the public who suffered immensely from Pfizer unethical acts. Once again the northerners have shown that many a time they are more reasonable than many southern governors who would have just collected some part of the money and end the case there. I wish them success in this project |
nice wedding and nice looking couple. Can someone give background on them. Their lifestyles, hobbies and professional accomplishmets? Curious. Would appreciate more info |
Beaf:The family of late Vatsa is so traumatised by the execution of Vatsa. I can feel their pain. The key issue is that after the Dimka coup the OBJ military regime made some terrible draconian laws to protect themselves agains coup plots These were military rules ; trials were by tribunals and definitely no rule of law applies. The rules included if you knew by any means about a coup plot being planned or executed at any stage and you did not report it you ere gulity as a coup plotter even if you did not attend any meetings to plan one. It appeared Vatsa, OBJ , late general yar adua and Abacha 's then deput may have fallen into these issues. And if Vatsa knew of a coup plot in the offing and he is a friend of IBB, why did he not inform IBB? IBB acted in self defence and possibly in anger that a friend let him down by not informing him about the plot when he knows the rules . In the military there is no justice and it is a case of dog eat dog; they know the risk they are taking and they keep taking it. |
okstol:IBB is a strategist. He had sponsored OBJ both financially and politically so that he protect him from being probed. He also uses threats of death from the league of generals if anyone tries to harm him by planning to probe him. It is like the rumor that goes around that American presidents are made to swear to protect state of israel at all costs. |
This is the most candid intervivew IBB has ever granted and it throws a lot of light onto his personality. He seemed ambivalent about doing good, keeping alive, and doing bad things. He appears to have some psychopathic traits with little empathy for others, but that may be explained by his military background. As for him executing Vatsa I blame him not because [f Vatsa actually plotted against his childhood friend, IBB, then he deserves the punishment when the coup failed He knew the military law. I heard some rumors that Dele Giwa met his death because he tried to blackmail IBB with the true story of Gloria Okon, demanding juicy jobs, money and other goodies to keep it secret. If this were true he breached jounralist ethics and placd his life at risk with a military dictator. As for June 12, the true story can never be known but we know how nigerians are die hard to get their canndidate in power and IBB must have seen this as an oppotunity to continue to remain in power. He should have stood up for what is right but like I said he has a psychopathic nature and finds it hard to do the right thing; only self survival matters to him As to whether he is the right ruler for nigeria. IT IS UP TO NIGERIANS TO DECIDE. It is Shakespeare who said the evil that men do live after them but the good is often interred with their bones. |
@Oyinda How can scientist answer the question of what made the whales to turn up on our beaches or to die when scavengers have already eaten it up. Of course they cannot work without the cadavar of the dead whalees, and that is an important reason for us not to eat it; we do not kno wthe chemical or biological poisons invloved in teh death of the whale. |
I think Emeagwali is a great scientist and deserves the honour/ As for his claims we may need to be sure of his exact words; he did NOT say he is THE FATHER of the internet but a father of the internet meaning he had contributed immensely to its current form. Perhaps he overblew his trumpet but many silent scientists had worked in various fields to improve services and machines. The US govt only rejected the claim of him being THE FATHER of the internet but no one had refuted the other claims he made. We should at least hear his side of the story first. |
In my own opinion, it is not worth the effort to do NYSC these days. You may be posted to a location that puts you at risk of different calamities and the experience adds nothing to your progress. UNLESS you have political agenda in the future in nigeria. It is not like the American peace corps that is well supported by the US govt. Better enjoy your stay in the US and do a master's degree programme |
thaira:Better to go to the fashion school first, then attend the roadside fashion designer to obtain practical experience/ The fashion school will give you basic theoretical knowledge then you can reinforce the practical skills through the roadside designer Best wishes |
adamushaibu:I hear u Lol 419!!! Go away !!!! |
@ Benstino if you know any positive news about GEJ please hang it up on NL so people can make comments. Here is a man who has no plans to better life for nigerians. He sees this period of his being in power as an opportunity to enjoy and ensmass wealth and power. Deceive us and return for another four years. He had not shown any capacity to address the big problems of nigeria; power failures, poor road networks, health care issues and the Niger Delta problems. He thinks by dining with MEND members he can stop terrorism instead of rolling a development programme for the Niger Delta and the people there. Again if you know of any posiitive news about him let us know. He had not genuinely innitiated any open transparent fund raising activities for his campaign How does he hope to get money except stolen federal funds to bribe delegates Shame |
Supported. It is still a business proposal. Let us see if it would be executed properly wthout corrupt officials stealing the proosed money for the project |
It is interesting to note how bribery has been so legitimised in nigeria, as evidenced by posts from members of NL who see nothing wrong with bribing delegates with federal funds!!!! Looks like it is the way of our fathers in the past. Read Chinua Achebe's No Longer at Ease. Such an act would cost a candidate his chance of wining an election the western world but here we are feeling unconcerned about it. This is why corruption would never end in Naija. A Nigerian is accused of demanding bribe to vote for a country campaiging for world cup hosting right and nigerians see nothing wrong with it. No hope for Naija. Shame |
it is amazing that some countries are more corrupt than Naija and 43 of them for that matter!!!. Nigeria had become the icon of corruption and fraud the world over. Because our leaders practise bribery, fraud and corruption without shame and go scot free, the public has seen it as the right thing to do. But it is weighing heavily on our development as a nation. I do not see any hope in the change of morality in naija for as long as possible. Other factors fueling corruption is our greed for materialism, our value system based on material acquisition and our high level of selfishness that knows no bounds. Sometimes we behave as if we are the poorest nation on earth whereas the real reason is our greed and imoorality. |
I wonder what kind of women are attending this university. If you detest hugging and refused to be hugged and the other person continues to do so, you can charge them for sexual assault, or invasion of priacy. The law is there to deal with these kind of unwanted behaviours and the VC should have reminded students about taking action against stalkers who pretend to hug in order to invade sexual privacy of unwilling students. If the female students have no problem with the hugging which is normal human behaviour common with africans what is the VC's concern. He should realise that a univeristy is not an islamic state. But if students were originally informed that the university operates with islamic rules and the federal govt or state govt granted license despite this, please students keep to the rule or leave the unversity PERIOD. |
I am not a fan of IBB and his crooked group. But ustice needs to be done and the president should be seen to be doing the right thing. If IBB had not been officially charged for any offences he has the right to contest any election. There is is no constitutional reason why he cannot contest. If the party PDP had agreed to rotate presidency to north and osuth alternatively for eight years each and that is their approach to emanating their presidential candidates so be it. GEJ is just greedy for power; he should uphold the party's regulation and step off the contest. OBJ had used this rule to help Yar'adua come into power and GEJ is a beneficiary of this. Giving the north their four year chance is the right thing to do. This does not make IBB automatically the president of Nigeria. Afterall he tried to contest with Yar'adua and later was stood down by the party. Many northerners are feeling aggreived by GEJ''s flagrant disrgard for party rules in order to fulfull his greed for power. THis kind of behaviour is enough to disrupt relationship with the unity of thier party and of nigeria as well. However we have other choices from other parties. Would have been more honourable for GEJ to respect rules and agreements and step down from contesting for the presidency |
As bad as Okah is . please do not underestimate the level to which corrupt nigerian officials can go to do deals to make money. It is possible that some of the diary entries are what really happened. They may have been making secret deals with Okah to purchase cheap arms and maximise profits for themselves. He may have suspected one day he would use this stuff and was making notes from his experience reading and watchig criminal stories. The SA police are taking the contents of the diary seriously and i think we should too. A guy like Okah is goldmine for corrupt nigerian officials who know no shame and are greedy for money. Is it not GEJ who exonerated MEND, why is Okah being picked up for frying if he did not possibly refuse a favour from govt quarters ? The truth would soon be known jare. Okah may have been an executioner for some criminal govt officials of naija |
Thanks a lot. Great lyrics with patroitic spirit |
Oprah is really crazy to make such a generalisation about nigerians- that they ALL corrupt. Was it not a smilar staement made lightly by Obama about Philidelphians holding onto their guns and bibles , that cost him Philadelpha votes during the primaries in the USA last year? Such flippant statements are poor of her. The mugu who gave the naija man 500,000 dollars may have ua corrupt greedy and lawless American who was looking for easy money as well. We do have a lot of issues about corruption in naija but NOT ALL nigerians are corrupt. A lot of them are honest hard working people. We only have huge problems with leadership mainly because of poor understanding of what nationhood is about in the country and this can be rectified in time. How would she feel if just because of some black american criminals we say in CNN that all black americans are crimininals. She needs to retract the statement and make it up by showing some honest hard working nigerians in her show thus uplifting the image of the black race. |
mikeansy Thank u so much for this post. You had doe a brillant clinical analysis of the situation. When we are wishwashy about investigation of a seirous crime as terrorist bombings, we put ourseves at risk, particulary when we hasitily exonerate people who claim responsibility and have a history of violent behaviur. GEJ should have used the opportunity to allow a full scale investigation without bias or favour and unite the nation together iwth words like there is no north, sourh east igbo hausa or yoruba and other tribes but only nigeria and assure nigerians of the protection and safety we deserve. In a similar vien the new crime of kidnapping had been escalating because the police have failed woefully to act decisively I dare say that if another bomb blast happens, GEJ should be voted against at all levels. He would have proven he cannot protect us in any way |
