PoliticsRe: Jega Offers To Resign, Jonathan Rejects; Resignation Amounts To Treason – Agf by Solozzo(m): 4:40pm On Apr 04, 2011
This shows how inefficient Jega is. Heought to have chosen and nurtured a crack team for this election process. The presidency ought to have given him adequate support as well. This is not the first elections ever but this is definitely the worst in terms of organisation. Jega should have learnt from the efficiency of Humprey Nwosu in 1993.

Shame on Jega. He should resign. Presidential approval or not.
PoliticsRe: Return Fayose’s Houses, Court Tells Efcc by Solozzo(m): 4:50pm On Mar 31, 2011
The learned Judge is absolutely right. You cannot seal or sell any accused person's property wthout a court order. You have to prove the funds for the purchase of the houses were fraudulently obtained from govt cofers, illegally acquired, and then ask for court order for any action. This is to protect public citizens you and I from the whims and caprices of govt officials who may want to grab your property for themselves

EFCC should pay the cost and if they wish to pursue the case return Fayose to coup for due process

I am amazed that the EFCC staff do not know anything or refused to follow the due process in this case. They were full of excesses and grandiosity and so Fayose wins
Foreign AffairsRe: Japanese Tsunami, Road Repaired Six Days After----pictures! by Solozzo(m): 5:18pm On Mar 26, 2011
No solutions when there is so much greed and corruption. I once thought since we naija dey like bribe and eguje too much let us formulate a system where apart from base salary you get say ten percent of what ever money you are able to make for every piece of work u do. Say you get ten percent of the school fees of the students u teach and if successful in ther exams u get automatic bonus on your salary. or if you are a politician u get a certain percentage of projects completed successfully as legal. But our greed is terrible, our fraudulent ways may mar this plan

I wonder what else apart from punishment and justice can work for naija
Foreign AffairsRe: Mugabe Offers Gaddaffi Asylum by Solozzo(m): 4:30pm On Mar 23, 2011
Nobody should blame the west for carefully choosing which country to go in and fight to sustain democracy or their interests. One major principle of an intervention warfare is that the country the war is to be brought to must have the means to pay for the war effort. Modern weaponry are expensive.

First day of this crisis alone cost the USA over 225 million dollars on the 110 cruise missiles at a cost of 1.5million dollars per missile.

So if u no get any useful resources to pay for the war effort for your country no salvation for u. Na so the world be. First gulf war was paid for by Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Every country had a share of some of the money after all expenses paid, and some juicy oil contracts.

That is why USA and the allies would never go into poor countries like Zimbabwe or Ethiopia to fight.
Foreign AffairsRe: Breaking: Khamis Gaddafi Is Dead by Solozzo(m): 7:02pm On Mar 22, 2011
Gaddaffi is a mad dictator the world can do without. He was setting precedence to stall democratic reforms across Africa and the Arab world. The west need to show people that democracy can be defended. Without this intervention the labors of the Libyan people would be in vain.

He offered no options to the people7"rebels" except death and so he gets none. His braggardness has come full circle.

He could not even develop an army to wage war against the west he loathed so much. Some NL posters blame the west, that is fine for a different view point. But remember no western leader will treat their people the way gaddaffi has done and be safe. Even if gaddaffi survives this he faces judgement at the hands of Allah who is the Merciful One.
FamilyRe: Would A Nigerian Dad Ever Strike His Adult Daughter? by Solozzo(m): 5:20pm On Mar 22, 2011
Well in my community, isoko in Delta state, it is against the norm for a parent to beat up an adult child. You would be blamed by the elders if u attempt no matter what the child has done.

It is a shame many NL members still support this brutish culture. just because one lives under their roof does not give parents right to assault their adult children or anyone for that matter. An NL member had related how she almost got killed for coming home late from school. The uncaring parents never thought child may be in danger and focussed on meting punishment before hearing the story. This is a way of bringing up children not to value natural justice, the right to be heard and defend yourself before being found guilty.

Time we ban corporal punishment no matter the age of the child. All that high-handed discipline has contributed to produce corrupted politicians and a high crime rate in our country.

Time for parents to learn positive parenting skills, exemplary lifestyles that lead to respect and emulation of good values, so we can '' hand unto our children a banner without stain"
Foreign AffairsRe: African Union Demands 'immediate' Halt To Libya Attacks by Solozzo(m): 3:51pm On Mar 20, 2011
bechex:
Well, I believe everyone has his own opinion on what is happening in Libya, but some facts need to be ironed out,
1. The Libyan People held peacefull protest againt their President
2. Ghadaffi initiated attacks on his people, killing a lot of them using Millitary means including airstrikes against peacefull protesters.
3. The People started an armed revolt against him and he threatened to punish them. He said he will 'have no mercy'

The question we should ask ourseleves is that what would we do if we were in the shoes of the UN. After pleading with someone to implement a ceasefire, and he promises to ceasefire but ample evidence shows that he is still shelling his people. With the imminent slaughter of innocent people, what do you expect the UN to do, what would u do if you were in the shoes of the UN.

The issue of Bosnia, Zimbabwe or Rwanda should not be an issue here. if you can convince yourself that you would sit and do nothing in this case then u can criticize the UN.

I rest my case
Well put, Bechex. Thanks for being  so forthright. It is said that evil prospers because good men did nothing
So what to do when a mad psychopathic ruler threatens and massacres his own people who were simply asking for a change of leadership of forty years of oppression and suffering. If you criticise the UN on this issue then shame on that person who has shown lack of compassion on fellow Africans, and would sit idly and watch evil reign supreme.
TravelRe: Why Can't Nigeria Be Like Ghana? by Solozzo(m): 3:36pm On Mar 12, 2011
@londoner
Thanks for your comments

The most objective comparison between nigeria an dghana would be in terms of demographics and economic indices in things like ;

per capita income, employment rate; population density; level of education; political stability; housing issues; social welfare support systems, medical care that is affordable and universal with medicare and natinal health services, how we care for our disabed and mentally ill people, maternal and child health indices, justice and morals, releigous and tribal tolerance; population distribution. Even things like number of cars per person, number of TVs person population; availability of power supply and justice system; international corruption level ratings and so on.

Let us do more research in these areas before we can debate anything yet

But we know from experiences of people who have been to both and lived in both countries that Ghana had made tremendous improvement in many areas but Nigeria seems stuck and the new democracy has created more wealth for nigerians but proportionally lesser peace and stability and less standard of living and comfort. What is the use having more more money when u are unable to have regular energy supply. more traffic jams, higher unemploymemnt rate and more crime level. I guess these are the key issues many of the posters here are talking about

It is time for nigeria to use this new economic boom to begin development but bearing in mind modern economic idelogy of providing sustainable renewable energy that is involve reuse, recycle and encourage and provide a nurturing place for biodiversity

RACIST QUOTE FROM FREEWILLY
I'm not racist, it just sounds to me you just a kiss a** typical Nigerian. sorry sis don't care what you have to say the white boy is not Nigerian and never will he be one. Don't care if he was born there or has a Nigerian passport. And thats all I have to say about this so you all can kiss my natural black a**.

MY QUOTE
@Freewilly

Shame on you Freewilly to be so naive, ignorant and a racist. I note you set location as USA. May you get the worst treatment at the hands of the Americans on the basis of your race and be repatriated poor and dejected for your ignorance and racist attitude. The president of the country you live is an American but he is a black man and proud to be so. You are discriminatory and so unenlightened

it is because people like you are ruling Zimbabwe today that is why Zimbabweans are seeing hellfire and roaming the world in poverty and shame
TravelRe: Why Can't Nigeria Be Like Ghana? by Solozzo(m): 1:49pm On Mar 11, 2011
On first reading your post, I thought bloody racist Nigerians. But on deeply contemplating the issue of doubting your Nationality of being a Nigerian I concluded that the main reason was that they just could not contemplate any foreigner let alone a white man with all opportunities abroad would prefer to be proud of Naija and live in Nigeria.

He must be a secret agent they must have thought! No way why would he want to suffer in this Godforsaken country even if he was born here and lived here in good times, he should have run away since.

I thank you and praise u for your love of naija and Africa and a good example to all of us.

The reason why we cannot be like Ghana is simply corruption and the inefficiency and cruelty it engenders. Full stop.

Thanks for your response. That is very encouraging. Any idea about the best affordable places? Mortage sysystems.

PoliticsRe: George Orwell Must Have Been Thinking About Nigeria When He Wrote Animal Farm! by Solozzo(m): 4:39pm On Mar 08, 2011
I think if one must place the yorubas in a category, the nearest one could place deem is the PIGLETS as they were usually favoured to benefit somewhat in the system.

I am thinking of buying a house in Ghana in view of the regular electricity and less corruption. Does any member of NL has any experiences to share?
PoliticsRe: George Orwell Must Have Been Thinking About Nigeria When He Wrote Animal Farm! by Solozzo(m): 5:44pm On Mar 06, 2011
Good stuff. Animal farm mirrors naija in some aspects when taken in a longitudinal historical view. But I think that the allegory of Old Major represents Herbert McCaullay rather than Awolowo. Mccaullay was the visionary for Nigeria, with a high sense of nationalism, unity of all tribes and a bridge across all ethnicity. Unfortunately he died before independence was achieved. In contrast Awo had a rather more parochial view of Nigeria focusing more on regionalism while paying lip service to nationalism in order to derive ultimate benefit for his people.

I think Napoleon was more like BabaGida rather than GEJ
PoliticsRe: I Got Tricked To Attend Bode George Reception, Says Obasanjo by Solozzo(m): 5:09pm On Mar 06, 2011
I find OBJ bizarre. Is he saying it is okay to attend ceremonies of a corrupt convict as an individual but not as a party affair? Who is the pdp made of? Did he know if the other pdp members were invited in the same manner as himself
.
I thought he has his own mind to weigh whom he associates with. Thanksgiving or not. To me this is a selfish lame excuse to free himself from blame and criticize his fellow party members unduly. Evidence of his narcissism. Shame.

RomanceRe: Is It Right To Hit A Woman For Any Reason? by Solozzo(m): 3:25pm On Feb 18, 2011
intimate partner violence is a common occurrence in relatonships. In one half of the cases the women initiate the violent act and the men respond, but most of the time the man gets the blame eg Rihana and Chris Brown. The main reason is that the men are not able to apply an equal proportion of force; they usually cause more severe injuries to the women  because of greater strength and higher level of rage.

When it comes to responding with violence to a female partner''s assault, guys be aware of your greater strength and the possible severe injuries u may cause her even if she looks bigger than u. Better to consider a nonviolent approach to the issue unless she is using a weapon against you and u have no choice but to assault her in self defence.

Basically responding with violence to an assault is not the best choice in both sexes. But it is  usually a shame and unbelievable when  a man states he was beaten up by his partner and goes to court about it. So where does the man get justice in this case?
PoliticsRe: Southern Sudan Seeks Nigeria’s Support by Solozzo(m): 5:28pm On Feb 17, 2011
Southern Sudan should be careful in choosing who gives them support and guidance. Nigeria would only promote corruption and ineptitude in South Sudan, Would be better if they seek help from south africa or western european countries so that they can get a good foundation for economic growth
CelebritiesRe: ~Super Diva Omotola Jolade Ekeinde At The Grammys 2011~ by Solozzo(m): 12:26pm On Feb 15, 2011
I agree with all those who recommeded  Nigerian dress for Omotola . For one thing our dresses are highly appreciated here abroad, will fit her age and also garner admiration for our local fashion. A good head tie would have sparked lots of admiration at this event.

Well Omotola maybe next time try Nigerian fashion

Best wishes
PoliticsRe: Igbinedion To Face Corruption Charges Today by Solozzo(m): 2:28pm On Feb 08, 2011
Can someone let us know how much time minimum to maximum. the Nigerian criminal code prescribed for fraud?
You see the issue is that the law distinguishes between stealing and fraud. Whereas in reality there is no difference between them. These are tricks of the law to protect senior officers from suffering a lot in prison with possibly bribery for the judges. Remember an American who duped the people last year got a life imprisonment in in the USA .There is an urgent need to review these laws in nigeria and review the duration of imprisonment upward together with seizing the stolen money or properties from the offenders, if we are serious about fighting corruption in Nigeria.

But who is gonna change the law when the legislators and other govt officials in Nigeria re hell bent on defrauding the government as well
Nairaland GeneralRe: Confusion Over Self-confessed Witch by Solozzo(m): 5:45pm On Feb 04, 2011
It is a shame that in the 21st century Africans still view the mentally ill as witches and wizards, something the developed world have ceased over 100 years ago. We claim that every person confessing wichcraft is real but look at the person's appearance and behaviour in comparison to those we know as mentally disordered. Is it everything a person says is true. So if i claim I am the president of the USA today would u believe me; please for enlightenment read about schizophrenia in wikipedia or any where in the internet and u would learn that delusions of a bizzarre nature poor self care and psychosocial deterioration are common with these group of psychotic patients. It is high time our police officers receive some basic courses in the recognition of mental illness and stop maltreating them. For those who are Christians advocating punishment for this poor woman remember Christ says whatever u do to the least of these my brothers so u do unto me
Foreign AffairsRe: South Sudan Becomes 54th African State by Solozzo(m): 4:31pm On Feb 03, 2011
ShangoThor:
You need to Fix the Secular State first, make it more effective, make sure all States are subject to the same rules before you can fix those problems
that you have discerned. Give the State teeth. If you want to stop the looting, then Fix the State.

Those problems cannot be fixed if you have One Cluster of States within a Nation State trying to UNDERMINE it because they believe it is decadent.
Make sure all local States in the Nation State are subject to the same laws; are on the same page.

It is the inconsitency of laws, different laws for different types of people that is the problem.
@ Ozenyen
Absolutely right . Dividing the country is not the solution. It is true democracy that is the answer. If given the right opportunity the people have the capacity to elect leaders that would create change and grow the economy, They may make mistakes iniitially but with time know who best serve their interests,   A good example is Edo state who voted for Igbenidion who turned out to be corrupt and inept. They had been able to make the cnage to Oshiomolie who is currently doing a good job.

But in most states of the country and especially at the Federal level in  Nigeria because of greed and corruption, true democracy is not allowed, and this dminshes the hope for good future for the country
Foreign AffairsRe: South Sudan Becomes 54th African State by Solozzo(m): 4:16pm On Feb 03, 2011
we missed the opportunity to split in 1970 after the civil war. It would be almost impossible now because we are so greedy and everybody wants to be part of the oil areas so that they can loot the treasury. We are in for a long phase of suffering before we are able to take our destiny in our own hands like Tunisia did
Nairaland GeneralRe: Confusion Over Self-confessed Witch by Solozzo(m): 2:50pm On Feb 02, 2011
it is most likely this woman is suffering from a chronic psychotic disorder and that her confessions are most likely to be delusional in nature. I would recommend that the police take her to a psychiatric hospital for assessment and treatment. The only problem may be the issue of cost of treatment but there might be some funding from some philanthropic organisation linked to the psychiatric hospital
PoliticsRe: Corps Members Disappointed Us – Inec by Solozzo(m): 5:53pm On Jan 18, 2011
INEC is only looking for scapegoats for their own inefficiency which is the usual scenario in Naija. You need not be a graduate to operate these machines. All that is required is good training and practice with them. These would include field trials and supervision long before the day of use. I read most of the errors were inherent to the machines themselves; they misidentified fingerprints, were slow to respond and the printers were malfunctioning. These are not NYSC errors.  Troubleshooting solutions and backup supports should be available. Field trials would help with skill building and detection of errors inherent to the machines. INEC should learn to take responsibility.

CultureRe: Stolen Benin City Mask To Be Auctioned In London For N1.25b by Solozzo(m): 3:55pm On Dec 22, 2010
The glorious mask was stolen all right but it was part of what can be regarded as spoils of war. When you lose a war you are bound to lose a lot of property you may never get back. You may trade your life or even  your race for those material things. The mask is currently in private hands and we cannot use poitics to get it back. I suggest that Edo state govt with the assistance of the Federal government buy the mask back and ensure it 's safe keeping and preservation, That is the way to go
PoliticsRe: Atiku Accused Of Forging Opinion Polls by Solozzo(m): 3:48pm On Dec 22, 2010
I expect members of this forum to be persons of high intelligence and maturity and should be able to uphold the spirit of natural justice that looks at both sides of a case without bias and base judgement on evidence/ We have just read a report and where is the evidence that Attic doctored opinion polls results. Also where is the evidence that he stole more than OBJ did while they were in power. The big problem Atiku had is OBJ undlying love for power and his megalomanic unforgiving spirit and his fear of being punished if Atiku gets to power. But we know OBJ makes bad choices as evidenced by his choice of Yar'adua Jonathan team of poor leadership, OBJ is still the unseen hand blocking atiku and brainwashing Nigerians that he is more corrupt than himself, Atiku may not win the presidential elections but lets see how GEJ plays out his hand in the future,
