So sad that Ojukwu inspire of his education left no will behind, so common with Nigerian wealthy. This is what we seeing now. Bianca was rescued by the ambassadorial post she got. Nigerians please learn to write wills!! |
[quote author=Vicjustice]Bravo, I agree with you Most people seem to point their fingers toward white people when talking about racism and racists. We seem not to realise that in the real sense, white people are much fairer to us than our fellow black people are. This brings me to the understanding that there is actual racism in Nigeria: but we don't see it as racism because we classify the behaviours into a wrong category "tribalism". For example, some Yoruba families often would not let their daughters get into marriages with Igbo men, most Igbo families would not encourage an inter-marriage with the Huasas, most Hausa families would often not accept inter-marriages with either Yorubas or Igbos, and the same applies with the minorities in Nigeria: Even among the Igbos, there is this intense degree of tribal prejudice: for example, an Anambra man disregard an Owerri woman and might not want anything serious with her, worst still, there is this barbaric cultural practice that distinguishes and discriminates some certain tribes known as Osu in isolated margin (that's if i'm accurate). Many people are also refused or denied social opportunities for reason of their races or backgrounds, but we don't seem to mind these developments, we only accuse white people of racism when we're refused or denied some benefits. Now, talking about the grudges and ill-feelings, can we see that there's prejudice in Nigeria, and that we suffer racism from fellow Nigerians than from white people? Even democracy and election in Nigeria is influenced by ethnicism and racism. Note: This is not "tribalism", but racism in its finest definition: Tribalism is experienced amongst specific ethnic groups for example; Owerri man versus Enugu man, but when it is inter-ethnic, such as Hausa people versus Yoruba people, then it is called racism. Racism goes beyond skin colours; consider Polish people accusing the Germans of racism as well as the Albanians accusing the Greeks of racism towards them yet, they are all white[/quote What you described is ethnicism, not racism. Race is a wider classification eg Caucasians, Negros, Asians, Latinos. Tribalism is the accepted term, as those Nigerian groups are also called tribes. We practice racism against other races no doubt eg indigenisation policy, nonemployent of whites in our ministries, refusing interracial marriages except for economic benefits etc.] |
Freiburger: Nigeria and i've got my reasons.Supported Reasons: - we do not employ whites to provide consultation in our public services, even when obvious we need supervision from the developed world - we call whites funny names, and seized all their companies in te 70s in the name of indigenisation policy |
slimdiggi: Mehn! Imagine you loose 5000# note,na craze be dat o!Lol |
BizBooks: The facts are coming out gradually. Before today, all I knew about Fela's mother's deathThanks for clarifying issues. Kalakuta republic was a hellhole, a den for criminals and housed women of easy virtue. A high risk for police and military intervention, even in developed world. Similar to Jonestown and Waco - branch Dravidians abode in the USA. His son Femi had to close the new location after his father died. |
I just don't understand why Fela's mom was staying in the same building where her son did all the Ganga smoking, night clubbing activities with all the skimpy women around. The place was like a brothel. She did put herself at risk of harm living or even visiting such a place. Such an educated woman for that matter. |
Interesting to learn there was a national beauty contest in the 50s in Nigeria. Oyinbo teach us well!!. Certainly a beauty. Rest in peace, Helen Does anybody in the house have any background of her life story, or link to her last interview on TV? |
Nice piece! Hope it is the first chapter of a novel about nigeria's electricity woes. Think about it Best wishes |
Callotti: Is it only internet that you can use to compare Nigeria to New York? You do not have any evidence for your position about nigerians Internet speed. But if you look at the way Nigerians upload on Facebook, YouTube and even NL, just using mobile phones in most times, you can get some insight about what we talking about. Fast Internet speed improves communication, information gathering, and is a sign of advances in the level of educated middle class in a country. |
I am based in Australia. Just tested my 3G Internet speed on my iPad in Perth. Results Download speed = 1.46mbs Upload speed = 3.07mbs Will test ADSL speed when I get home on Sunday. Because it it is connected to my landline phone. Will post results. The main issue is the stability of delivery of Internet |
What platforms do you browse Internet most -mobile phones, tablet/iPad or computers; laptops, desktops? |
Personally I don't wear wedding ring because, 1. Feels heavy and tight in my finger, not used to ring and ecklace. Wife bought me necklaces I don't use. 2. Most of my mates do not wear and tease me about it 3. I feel more comfortable informing females friends about my marital status so they do not expect intimacy from me. so is not wearing ring is not to enhance flirtation |
Nice to hear. We could even do better with ADSL Internet technology. It's faster and cheaper. The main drawback for Nigeria in acqiuring ADSL is the lack of adequate landline phone services. You need a landline to get ADSL internet installed |
taharqa: Shee some of u guys have been saying that Amnesty was the signature(some say ONLY) achievement of the Yar'adua's regime? Oya na, see achievement ni!!...by the way, why is it paining some people sef? Who get the Oil in question? Abi those ppl who own more than 90% of the oil wells in another man's backyard get 10 heads? So if the argument is not about the Appropriateness(or otherwise) of the Amnesty itself and how we "negotiate" differences in this country, I dont see why anybody should be disturbing him/her self. Compared to others these monies small jorHow about the indigenous residents of the ND communities. Any payment for them? Otherwise more terrorists would spring up to collect their share. What community services are there to better the lives of these ND people? The FG approach leaves little to be desired.. Bribery and corruption as usual. You can these terrorists are quiet as long they are being paid. |
I hope there are effective covered drains, concrete underlay for the road as well as sidewalks as in Edo State. Interlocking tiles are too expensive, wear off easily, due to friction from soiled tyres and retard driving speeds. They are only useful in built up streets with very short distances |
SmoothCrim: Nigerian donkeys are in every country looking for food!! Lazy ugly criminals!!!You monkey, beast of no gender, son of a thousand fathers!! Eat your heart out. You should know that Nigerians are contributing to development of many of these countris |
timmy1999: Which kind talk be that...sey peacekeeper dey live there....I said any nigerian living thereThere maybe Nigerian WHO workers, peacekeeping staff there. Remember if there us coca cola in Sudan there would be Nigerians, so the adage goes. |
The fact is that fear of death is basic instinct of self protection which all living things possess. Even Christ was not 100% happy to die. Evey soldier hopes to survive the war. Christ accepted death willingly because it was the wish of God at that time and his death will enable the disciples to emboldened to spread the gospel to save life. We know today that death is only a transition process. We still exist only in a different form After death as part of the dust of the earth traveling round the sun for ever, not feeling any pain. In that sense people should not be terrified of death when there is nothing to save it. But the drive to live should encourage us to help ourselves to live on. Soldiers are better trained in his regard as they do not fear death and accept it as the sacrifice for their nation , knowing that they would lie in peace as part of the earth, merging with universe for ever and feel no more pain or anxiety having completed their role as living creatures. As for existence of life after death, there is no clear evidence yet, but probably the belief stems from experiences people have during grief following death of a loved one. During such times the traumatized mind conjures up images of the dead as hallucinations - what we call ghosts. That is why the belief of life after death is universally found in all cultures. Dreams of late loved ones may also play a role in the origin of this belief. Out of body experiences quite common when people are in coma may also contribute to the belief as well. There are some sections of the bible eg Ecclesiastes written by king Solomon that talked about death being the end of everything, and he says a living dog is better than a dead lion, there is nothing in the place that we go after death. So try live life to the full, for we have only one life.the wise king also said who knows if the spirit of man goes up or down or up after death. The issue is uf we claim to live after death, how about the animals, the trees where do they go after death. Let us not forget that man is basically a mortal being like other living things, and I do not believe that a just God sees us as superior to them, see the sparrow of the air, not one falls without your heavenly father notice, is a bible statement. It is this misperception of man superiority over animals and plants -borne out of our greed- that has caused deforestations and damage to wildlife with consequent accelerated global warming and climate change. |
Whymee: Fine, why should I pay PHCN bill when my prayer was part of the raw materials used in generating the power, GJE pls explain? |
Remii: i love this country, some are on internet ranting while some are already finished planing our lives 5 years ahead of us. Cabal always win, very interestingIt is up to Nigerians to vote for their choice at the national elections. Remember Edo gov elections |
dein77: And you think Nigerians havent prayed enough to have overcome? This is pure abuse of religion. Show me a nation that believes in docile prayers, then I will tell you that nation has problems of bad leadership and abjetc poverty.........Pls read article again. I think the presidents words were appropriate in the spirit of the islamic celebrations. Mark also his call for unity and peace, working with Sambo as well as showing respect for the Islamic religion is good. He needs to follow up with the unity and patriotism mantra, collaborate with the Islamic leadership more and empower Sambo more as well as indicating he has no trbalistic tendencies. Prayers okay at the Ramandam and other religious festivals. |
Most NLs lost the trendnin the repoert because of the misleading headline. I am happy jona was able to talk about unity of Nigerians as the key to peace. What is next is to build on the mantra. He should set up propanganda machine as in the biafran war era preaching keeping Nigeria one is a task that must be done, labours of our heroes past should not be in vain, highlight the power and glory of being nigerian, united we stand divided we fall etc. perhaps a series of weekly radio and TV speeches.m He should inspire a spirit of patriotism and repudiate tribalism. Catchy statements like there are no igbos, Hausas, Yorubas abd other tribes but Nigeria, you are for Nigeria or against it, boko haram is against unity of Nigeria and urge Nigerians to reject them, flush them out. He should show deep respect for all traditional instructions especially the north, respect for Muslim leadership like Obama did, encourage them to declare boko haram members infidels to pave way for their demise. Reassure everyone of their right to rule Nigeria and that he would keep to the promise of one term rule only. Show he is a man of all tribes by using dress from different tribes, use greetings from all tribes in opening speeches etc. begin some infrastructural dev, supports for tradesmen, farmers etc. Sambo should be granted powers and resources to consult with north and Islamic organizations and do some state functions so northerners feel they are part of the system. They have been feel cheated by loss of Yaradua and jona being in power. Most of all jona should learn some powerful speeches to encourage Nigerians to be patriotic and united. Jona should realize we are at war with boko haram whose behaviour is foreign Nigerian muslim attitude but are getting sympathetic supports from the north because of feelings of disillusionment, poverty, loss of self esteem, loss of assurance of the unity of all Nigerians of the strength of Nigeria as one indivisible unity. Jona should try and clear any feelings of disunity borne out by his Niger-delta experiences. Remember over 2 million people died over forty years ago to keep Nigeria one. No country survives two major civil wars. |
Fhemmmy: Good question and yet even mention someone as the owner . . .A perusal of the article posted indicated that as of this year, the project has not been completed. The exterior has been done but not the rooms and inside. But the vexed question is what does the owner do to earn money to do this. Is it honest business? Can we have these details please. |
berem: why is it only the south that you find oil? are there no traces of oil in the north? what happened to the chad basin? am just curious!Any petroleum engineer in the house to help answer this interesting question? |
Toktee: what id card, cos the last time i check nigerians dnt have a define id card unless those working with state, federal and local gvtment, maybe na school id cardHow about drivers license and international passport? |
I think human rights organizations should take up the case and sue the responsible agencies- Drs, hospital and prison services for negligence and culpable homicude. Especially the psych hosp that refused to accept him for treatment. Why was he not taken to Aro with long stay facilities. A psychiatrist could have attended to him in the prison. A 6 to 8 weeks admission would have made a lot of difference. After all, Clifford was a vulnerable Nigerian citizen who was not proven guilty of any offences yet. He was also a registered patient of yaba psych hosp.. Maybe anyone's turn tomorrow. Justice must prevail. A commission of inquiry should be set up to investigate the case |
manny4life: Look, that's why I said his calculation is wrong. It's difficult to calculate how much Nigerians spend on the average per day. You may gain some insight this way. 2$ is about 320naira. How much does a plate of food cost, how about transport cost, cosmetics, phone calls, cost of maintains home , children, contributions to social links as well as soft drinks beer, and other sweetmouths? Value each item even if not bought on the market. Remember medicines, native healer pastor and religious activities. Add up in a month for about 3 to 6 months find verge, then work it down to per day. At first it sounded big but when we worked average phone cost of 660naira per month per Nigerian it is not so bad. This equates about 4$ a month on the average. Abroad In western countries, average is definitely more than this. |
gbadexy: These chinese people are behaving like the former soviet union.Lesson for Nigeria |
