The guy has done it again and in world record time . . . again.

Michael Phelps wins his 6th gold medal in China.

I think the guys at NASA should test his blood for strange substances. grin

Too many Americans have deceived us in Athletics, I hope he's not one of them. It's just too easy for him. His blood should be stored till we have a better technology to prove he's cheating, but until then . . . The guy is phenomenal.

Yeah, I wish a few other of my wishes would come true . . . I'd be a millionaire grin grin

It's very good news and it makes a lot of fans happy. This is the best thing that has happened to us this year; after Grant's sack.

I still think we need that striker and a winger. If Drogba remains however then we may have no need for a striker.

Heard any news on SWP and Malouda? When are they leaving?

Phelps is unbelievable. He should be tested for banned substances. 11 gold medals and most in world record breaking time. Was he born in water?

He's fantastic!

Akola,
Don't get yourself worked up over Ibime's anti-Mourihno taunts.

If JM wears blue, Ibime will call it black just to link him to the devil. grin

Ibime,
Scolari, as far as I am concerned is scared he is going to be judged by JM's wining standard and fail woefully like Grant, hence his distancing himself from the promise of trophies. Any manager will find it difficult to fill in JM's shoes. Scolari can continue with his mind games if that makes him feel better.

Who took the blame when Portugal failed to win any trophy under his 4 year or so reign? Dismal performance as far as I am concerned.

JM has won it all in club football, what has Scolari got to shoot? Wining the World Cup with a Brazillian team that had Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Zico, Ronaldihno, Carlos, Emerson, Cafu etc at their best? Yeah that's hard . . . tongue

Meanwhile what is Robben doing on that list? While you point out JM's failures, why not point out his achievements with players - Joe Cole, Terry, Lamps, Deco, Carlvalho, Ferreira, etc (there's this other guy from portugal and a guy that left us to lyon).

As far as I am concerned, Scolari should shut up till we see a trophy. Ranieri and Scolari just need to dig at JM to make the news. JM is King of Club Football. They are no were near that pedigree.

Dont count on seeing much youngsters except those Phil has worked with. It seems he's sticking to proven players esp those he's worked with. So no Villa, Arshavin etc.

I was skeptical when others were celebrating huge score lines against Asian medical or college teams. What we need is consistency. We have to win, win and win. Moscow is closer to a team that we would play regularly when the season kicks off and what was the result? A loss.

The transfer deadline is around the corner, we still have virtually the same set of players except a 31 year old addition and another right back. No strikers or wingers have joined the club. The same old and under performing players remain at those positions. Fans have little or nothing to be excited about judging by the look of things.

Are we there yet?

A little gossip . . .

Real Madrid are set to offer forward Robinho a £16m tax-free five-year deal which he will sign, disappointing admirers Chelsea. (Daily Star)

I think we'd get a lot of good from the signing of Kaka, but I wonder if it's all to help Sheva.

If Kaka comes in, you wonder why Deco was signed in the first place. Then we would need to offload 2 central midfielders.

No one knows what is in Phil's head

Nateevs,
Even CNN is reporting it, but no quotes from direct sources.

My question is simple, what happens to Ballack, newly signed Deco, Essien, Mikel and maybe Lampard? I left out wingers.

Someone is smoking weed. That being said, I'll welcome the signing as it translates to a lot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ in revenue and perhaps a different playing style.

Ibime,
Why are you breathing brimstone and fire?
Ituen just exaggerated his statements. Everyone misses passes sometimes. Perhaps that's what he was trying to say.

Maka is a great player we all acknowledge that. Hell, the dude is a legend. He can take the pressure off from the defense. He nips the attack in it's bud or takes passes from defense in tight situations, holds on to the ball and is actually stupid enough to successfully dribble through the midfield in order to start a counter or to just give the game a breather. There is no doubt that the guy is world class.

However, the fact remains that the guy is getting old and taking Mikel's space. Mikel will be a great player if given the space for flourish and now is he's chance. If that does not work, we'll get someone else. Hell we have the money.

Farewell Maka . . .

McGeady signs new five-year Celtic deal

Celtic winger Aiden McGeady has signed a new five-year contract with the Scottish champions.

The 21-year-old Republic of Ireland winger received the club's player of the year award last night for his impressive season with Gordon Strachan's men.

Chief executive Peter Lawwell said: 'Our priority has always been to try to keep our best players at the club and the board is delighted to support Gordon in his plans for the future by securing Aiden on this long-term agreement.'

Newcastle were among the clubs to have been linked with the skilful wide man, but he has consistently stated he views Celtic Park as the best place to develop.

An 18-year-old McGeady scored on his debut for Celtic in 2004 and he has now made 158 appearances for the club.

He scored eight goals last season as Celtic won their third consecutive title and was voted the Clydesdale Bank Premier League player of the year.

The Glasgow-born player follows Scott McDonald in signing a five-year deal this summer.

Lawwell added: 'Aiden's performances in recent seasons have made him the outstanding player in Scottish football and clearly we are delighted that he has committed his long-term future to the club.

'It is particularly satisfying that Aiden has become such a success having come through the ranks of our youth development programme.

'While he himself deserves immense praise for all he has done, he is also a real tribute to all those people who have assisted his development including, of course, the great Tommy Burns.

'With Scotland's player of the year in Aiden McGeady and the SPL's top scorer Scott McDonald having now agreed new extended contracts, we are delighted that we have secured the services of two of the finest players in Scotland.

'Clearly, we will also continue to look to make quality additions to our squad and we are pleased to have done this in recent days with the signing of Georgios Samaras, someone who was so crucial to our success last season.'

How old will Maka be before his contract expires? How old was Zidane? How old is Viera?

I see nothing wrong with Lampard asking for a 5 year contract. He sells more shirts than the whole team put together. He is our most consistent player and highest goal scorer in the team at the moment. It's RA's money, let him decide.

What do u mean Lampard's assists are as a result of error?

That statement is totally inaccurate and absolutely false.

You talk of Arsenal bouncing back from Henry, what have they won? How many years did Man_U need to bounce back after losing RVN. We have won nothing since JM left and you're saying our most consistent player is a product of error.

Terry earning so much can be linked by management's mistake in the wages of Ballack and Shevy. Lampard and Terry were happy until RA and co started interfering with JM's signing. Lampard and Terry never complained about their wages until Ballack and Shevy.

Please who knows what our Manager is doing?

ManUtd supposedly has a new and great striker, Arsenal is signing youngsters, what do we have?

If throwing cheap insults online makes you feel better about yourself then go ahead. It's a bit to late for me to engage in these immature and senseless rants, perhaps a few months ago . . .

Sepp Blatter has been on the board for about 30 years, Fifa President for about a decade. Most successful world cups with more that a billion viewers. Quite a massive CV for a daft guy. Can we see yours please?

Blatter deserves more respect than this. The topic of this thread made me shiver with unbelief. The guy is older, wiser and wealthier than all of you put together.

He has been the Fifa President for about a decade, won two elections, hosted 2 successful World Cups, and has been on the Fifa Board for about 30 years. Calling him daft for airing his views is downright insultive and absolutely disgraceful.

Get a life!

Ronaldo can go or remain . . . much ado about a bloody hype.

Maka is getting older dammit. Loosing his feet, never had pace and lost in height. . .

While Mikel is . . . well he is Nigerian. What other reasons do you need? We also have Essien.

We can get good money off Maka if he leaves now. He has won everything there is to win in both club and country, so he should be allowed to retire peacefully. It's for his own good. cool

Ronaldinho - I want to join Chelsea

Ronaldinho is gunning for a move to Chelsea after admitting that he would love to join Luiz Felipe Scolari at Stamford Bridge.

"Big Phil" guided Brazil to a memorable World Cup win just six years ago, a triumph that was built largely on the back of some stellar displays by Ronaldinho.

Not surprisingly, Ronaldinho is keen to once again link up with the man who he credits for being a key figure in his glittering career.

"It's marvellous that Scolari is interested in signing me because he's an excellent manager," said the 28-year-old.

"I have great respect for him because I've known him since I was a little kid and he was manager of Gremio.

"If this opportunity to work with him again comes off it will be beautiful.

"We have a joint history in the world of football. We won a World Cup together which I will never forget."

Not content with bringing in one Brazilian, Scoalri is also rumoured to be in the hunt for Real Madrid's Robinho, speculation that has been fired by Robinho's agent admitting that his client is on the verge of agreeing a deal with the Blues.

"Chelsea have been after Robinho for a while and there has been much more contact since Scolari became coach," said Vagner Ribeiro.

"I met with Frank Arnesen in London and he confirmed that Chelsea wanted my player for next season."

Real are reportedly keen to ditch Robinho in an attempt to free up some cash to buy Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Anyway do you guys remember Di matteo?

Di Matteo appointed MK Dons coach

Di Matteo was capped 34 times for Italy during his playing days

Roberto Di Matteo has been named as the new manager of League One outfit MK Dons, replacing Paul Ince.

The former Chelsea midfielder, 38, has signed a one-year deal with the option of a further contract and will be officially unveiled on Thursday.

Di Matteo won 34 caps for Italy during spells with Lazio and Chelsea and retired from playing in 2002.

"Like the club itself, Roberto is young, ambitious and hungry to succeed," said a club statement.

"We are enormously excited about the team moving forward under his leadership," the statement continued.

Ince left to replace Mark Hughes at Blackburn last month after guiding the Dons to the League Two title last season.

Winkleman was keen to appoint a new manager as quickly as possible with the Dons players reporting back for pre-season training on Monday and said he had received 40 applications for the vacant post.

It is Di Matteo's first managerial appointment and he is believed to have beaten off competition for the position from former Leicester, QPR and Plymouth boss Ian Holloway and former Burnley manager Steve Cotterill.

Zenit Accept Blues Bid For Arshavin

Chelsea have made the first solid steps towards signing Russian revelation Andrei Arshavin, according to reports…

The Mirror claims that Zenit St. Petersburg have accepted a ₤12million bid from the Blues, and that Arshavin will arrive in London later this week to agree personal terms and undergo a medical.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is desperate to bring in one of his compatriots over the summer, and is similarly keen to ship off mega-flop Andriy Shevchenko in the process.

New manager Luiz Felipe Scolari has already brought Portuguese playmaker Deco to Stamford Bridge and is supposedly eyeing Real Madrid winger Robinho, but Abramovich – at the risk of incurring Scolari’s wrath only days into his tenure – has guided his hand toward Arshavin.

Barcelona are also very interested in the 27-year-old, who has already revealed he is favourable to a Spanish switch.

But a Zenit source said: "Chelsea have been in contact, a deal agreed and Arshavin will fly to London to discuss personal terms.

"He was very attracted by the chance of playing in Spain but feels English football would suit his style better and, with Roman Abramovich involved, there is another link and reason."
