No Retreat No Surrender: FG is deceiving Nigerians — ASUU leader on october 27, 2013 at 6:40 pm in periscope *‘We wrote 53 letters to govt in 16months’ *Says N100b mere propaganda, funds not released Clement Chup is the zonal coordinator of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Abuja. Chup, in this interview, hints that there is no end in sight to the four months old strike by the university teachers which has kept students at home. By Laide Akinboade The Minister of Education recently said ASUU strike would be over in a few months. What is the position of ASUU? I may not be in a position to give you the official position of ASUU, it is the National President that would give you the official position, but I want to tell you that there is a lot of insincerity on the part of government and, because government has the machinery of propaganda at their disposal, they disseminate a lot of falsehood to the general public. We are not talking about what government wants to do; what we are talking about is the implementation of an agreement which was signed by government and our union. So what government should be explaining is the modality for the implementation; so far, government has not come out to say this is what we will do. Rather, what government is trying to do is to run away from the agreement and we cannot accept that because the agreement is binding. Government must be honorable and responsible and implement the agreement. To buttress their insincerity, government would claim, and they have been telling the general public, that they released N100 billion two months ago. Up till now that we are talking, one kobo has not been released to any university, that is to tell you how insincere government is. So when they say we would as from next year make budgetary provision for so so and so amount, the question we should be asking ourselves is , what was spelt out in the agreement, which we are insisting they should implement? They cannot even give you an answer. In as much as we painfully went into this strike and, in as much as we are painfully pursuing this strike, in as much as we want this strike to end, we cannot just end it without achieving the purpose for which we went on the strike. So, as long as government does not show any sincerity to implement the agreement, the strike continues. |
Nice move, its high time they did so; FG had been employing subtle means of propaganda. Ride on ASUU! |

manny4life: As much as I agree with him, university education is NOT a fundamental right let alone that of a student. Sorry boss, you need a lot of convincing because that part ain't working. This lawyer na olodo rabata. Fundamental Directives of State Policy as enthrenched in the 1999 constitution in about four(4) sections isn't enforceable and no court of law in Nigeria can rule on it. It has always been a case of judicial restraint rather than judicial activism I.e restraining to give favorable judgment even when public opinion demands so unlike judicial activism that involves ruling based on the people's voice. This action is surely bound to fail, he knows as well, he is just being optimistic, good move. Besides, has he forgotten that an agreement without defects is fundamentally sacred? |

Asking this question is just like saying why must NUT plan to join ASUU's Strike whether as solidarity or interest. According to The Concurrent Legislative List of The 1999 Constitution of The FRN as Amended, Education falls within the legislative capacity of federal and state government concurrently. The implication is that the Fg may make laws/policies that relates to education as well as the States can. In this foregoing and in the absence of clear-cut legislation on separation of issues in administration of education by the respective houses of assembly at the states and federal level, it is just imperative or common sense that State University Lecturers affiliate themselves with their colleagues in federal universities even to the extent of sharing the same cause or interests. So therefore, there is nothing wrong for State ASUU's to attach themselves to federal ASUU and demand for infrastructure overhaul like their federal counterparts because the issues adumbrated by the industrial action borders on a national issue which the FG had agreed to bear the burden by signing the 2009 agreement! |

The House of Representatives yesterday frowned at the alleged N97m used in re-grassing the Abuja National Stadium. Hon. Godfrey Gaiya, who led the Committee on Sports on oversight function to the Abuja Stadium yesterday, described the N96.6 million used for the re-grassing of the pitch as “doubtful”. Gaiya while addressing newsmen after the inspection expressed disappointment with the level of work done by Julius Berger Plc as there was not enough drainage to drain the water after the rain. He said, “The re-grassing is just an aspect of the renovation and they said today that it cost them N96.6 million to do. “My verdict is that I am not comfortable with the level of water logged on the pitch. “I was in Calabar and it rained for three days non-stop before the match and you cannot compare Calabar that is in tropical environment to Abuja that is in the Savannah where rain is lighter. “So, if it rained in Calabar for three days when Nigeria played Malawi and I never saw anything like waterlogged spot, why should ordinary drizzling cause water ponds on the renovated Abuja pitch?.” The legislator vowed that the National Sports Commission must give detailed account of all their spending for the renovation of the stadium. Gaiya regretted that he had no powers to summon the contractors, Julius Berger Plc, to explain, but maintained that the NSC would be held responsible for any poor job done. He said: “We never entered into a contractual agreement with Julius Berger. “Our oversight function rests on the NSC. “It is the NSC that will bring its client to order when our observations are made known to them. “We hope they can relay the message to Julius Berger to get it done the way every Nigerian will be comfortable with.” Gaiya further described as “uncalled for” the ceremony which followed the renovation, noting that it was not a norm in the country to celebrate renovation of projects. He pointed out that it was only ideal for new projects to be commissioned. He questioned, “What will you do if you complete the eight-lane road between Zuba and Airport?” Source- http://dailypost.com.ng/2013/09/26/controversy-trails-re-grassing-of-abuja-stadium-with-n97m/?wt=2 I pondered over which topic category/section I ought to post this but I couldn't come up with one other than this. I crave the indulgence of the Mods to move it to the appropriate section. |
wesley80: If you're at home cos of the strike please dont be consoled thinking anyone is fighting for you, cos you're in for a rude shock.how? We must take it or leave it. A long and positive strike to end all is better dan annual strikes my friend. |
Oko_AGB: Just to remind those clamoring 4 ASUU to accept wat has been offered and go back to class, ur Nigerian Bsc is so worthless as it is so much so dat in d united states it can only earn u a place in their undergraduate 1st year.Tanks man. Its too bad we think of today, from leaders to citizens; we refuse to implement long-term albeit costly policies just to please d polity. Too bad, South Africa is even ahead of us, I just wonder what we have to prove. To me, long ASUU strike is a precinct to quality university education in Nigeria; it is an unavoidable evil that needs fund deliverance. |
Ada Nri1: The government has agreed to that already. The only thing yet to be implemented in their agreement is the allowance, which I heard the govt. released half of. But they want all of it.U must be joking Senior Ada! Haba! The govt agreed to release N100BN unilaterally, which is short of the expected yearly intervention fund. N100BN isn't enough for 60 Universities. Don't let how bogus it is deceive you; NUC will apply preferential treatment in disbursing d funds to d various universities. Each university's share will depend on many factors. Top federal unis. are likely to get a minimum of 2-3BN each which may execute 3,4 or 5 projects after d characteristic embezzling by govt. political agents. ASUU should press on. The polity is unstable, who knows what may happen next year if they agree now. As a completely education absent-minded govt, no provision was made to implement d agreement in dis year's budget, d same may happen nxt year as much as ASUU care. D future of education in developed countries is moving at a geometric rate, while in third world Africa at arithmetic rate. It is sad in Nigeria we can't employ funds to equip our universities. B4 u yab me, dis poser is for u: primary education failed, likewise secondary education, should university education fail as well. I know what I passed tru, ow much time I spent b4 I got admitted, d annual strike, et al but truth be told and examined in holistic manner, education in Nigeria is below par international standards and without a preparation for the future... |
Ada Nri1: ASSU is very greedy. Since when have they turned politicians? Do they think Nigerians like the jumbo pay that politicians receive? Yet they want the same. Greedy lecturersSeriously Childish! Thanks OKO_AGB for that remark. I m sure this particular faceless entity is still in secondary school and lost in some lacuna to misplace her senses(don't know if she is bisexual) and utter cheerfully that ASUU has turned politicians and want to gain from the strike imbroglio. Shame on you, have been overpaid by the coordinating officer of 40 Man Laptopdogs? Even FG can't say or insinuate this. Lemme ask you and your sycophants these questions: who handles contracting & supervision of projects in federal universities? Who stands to gain from it? Who obviously gains from it or earn than reasonably expected? Answer before thunder strike undergraduates in your immediate family upon ASUU strike! |

STEP 6 » On Device Reboot, your BBM8.0.7...packed with amazing features is ready for use » Just one more! » When you open your new BBM, a license agreement pops up and bars you. Just scroll to the bottom and enter the keycode » Which key code? Come on! The one that I told you will be sent to your email when you start downloading the application. » Once again, open your email inbox with your phone's native browser. You will see a message from blackberry with the heading "BBM KEYCODE" » Open the message which contains your keycode herein... » Your keycode is the beginning and end of a coded jargon. It is uncharacteristically distinct. » Hold down your "^aA" button (beside '0') on your phones' keyboard to highlight and copy the jargon from its beginning to its end and nothing more... » Open your BBM once again and paste the code »ACCESS GRANTED you are free to use the BBM8 and enjoy its amazing new features! N.B. To get over the hangover of coping and pasting this code from your mailbox which I laboured under for two days, I strongly advice that you use your native browser to copy the coded jargon. The code must be copied in a long, straight and unbroken chain line. It must not be copied broken or in indent form. Your native browser hold the key; it will outline the jargon in a straight line format, unbroken and untouched. Using other browsers to copy the keycode will render the key useless as the cursor will bounce back to "Agree" no matter how identical the code is with the one copied is! |
You must have surely caught whiff(s) of something with Blackberry recently. Well among this is BBM8 Channels Messenger. Have you been having problems or issues upgrading your BBM or plan to upgrade easily? If yes...your worries & struggles are over. God said 'my people perish becaus they lack knowledge and learn ignorance the more'. I have painstakingly formulated this step-by-step tutorial on my own. Albeit how long it is, it will serve as a beacon and put you on the fast track of upgrading ur BBM Messenger as well as other Social Apps like Twitter and Facebook Beta Limited to Blackberry Beta Zone Users without hassles. Sooo...let's roll! N.B. Use your native phone browser for all the steps adumberated and enunciated in this tutorial to avoid any problems or 'square one cycle syndrome'. Every blackberry user has a BBIDentity for sure. It is unsual for a BB user not a BBID. If you don't have, follow the first step, if you have a registered BBIDentity, ignore and simply login. STEP 1 » In your native browser, enter this URL http://blackberryid.blackberry.com » Click on ''Signup'' or ''Create One'' Link » When the next page opens, fill all necessary details reqiured from you and Submit. » On successful signup, a link will be sent to the e-mail address you used to register with a coupled info. that you should click the link provided in the email sent to you by Blackberry to confirm your e-mail address. N.B.- for yahoomail users: the blue link may not be visible when you open the confirmation message with your native browser. To display the link, click on ''View Message in HTML''(this is an encoding coding issue peculiar to yahoomail). » Click the link in blue to confirm your e-mail address and subsequently enter your password to proceed. » You should receive a message thus ''Thanks for confirming your email address...'' » Click the link in blue ''Return To Blackberry Beta Zone''. STEP 2 » Since you now have your BBIDentity either newly registered or existing, you can now proceed to register in Blackberry Beta Zone. »After clicking on ''Return To Blackberry Beta Zone'', click on ''New User Signup'' » Enter all the required fields marked in * N.B. You are surely not under-age? Tick that first box before you start filling in the details apart from the ones pre-filled for you. » Your PIN and Device model must be entered correctly; both infos will be used to generate a unique keycode that will be sent to your email prior to downloading beta apps. REDLINE- To avoid complicity and avoid error messages, incorrect locality details as may be encountered and the notorious ''this service is not available for people in your region...'' barricade; I used some other details. Herein; I used Country- Canada, City- Toronto, Province- Ontario and Zip code as M4B 1B3 (or 1B4,5, 6, 7 or . You may follow suit as well.» Click ''Submit'' after reviewing the info you gave. DO you know how to jack very well? If YES, peruse everything that shows up after submitting your info. If NO, simply scroll down and click the ''I Agree'' button and submit. If you "Disagree'', you are on your own so far. »If the next page, displays info that you should sign in to your blackberry ID, you are on the right course. If not, you may be asked to review your. Betazone Registration info. STEP 3 » On the new sign in display page, enter your blackberry ID login details to proceed. You may tick the ''Remember Me'' box and bookmark for easier access onwards. » A congratulatory message should load after signing in correctly thus: "Welcome To BlackBerry Betazone". » On the top-right corner, an account management tab is noticeable. You can edit your account details at the moment if you wish or proceed to the next steps. STEP 4 » By scrolling down a little further, some programs can be seen outlined as ''Eligible Programmes" I.e programmes you can participate and download. I use these Beta Apps currently: Facebook Beta, Twitter Beta, Appworld Beta, BBM, e.t.c. » The focal point here is BBM Messenger. It should be among the eligible programmes slide, if not click the side arrows (left & right) to see the available programme on the next slide. » The BBM Messenger app is represented by its logo and name as ''BBM Channels (BBOS + OS10). Click on the logo. » On the next page your consent will be solicited. So, click "agree to participate" » Proceed to select language » Agree and submit. » A page will load next displaying information on the application sought to be downloaded...scroll down, don't take the survey yet! » Scroll down further, you will see the "download" link in blue. Click on it » On the next page, you can select your choice download platform. If your device runs on OS10, scroll down, the second download option is yours (BBOS 10). If your device is below or runs lower versions of OS10 choose the first download option- BBOS. » Proceed, »select language and ''Agree" again! STEP 5 » Download Prompt... » You will be notified that you are about to download BBM Channels 8 to replace BBM7. » Proceed and wait for download to finish! » When a prompt appears that you should "Reboot" your device, do so. »» Where you can't or decided not to download the App yet, just login into your Betazone Homepage when you are ready via this URL https://beta.webapps.blackberry.com MORE TO FOLLOW»» |

ASUU strike becoming political —Suswam on september 06, 2013 at 9:17 am in news BY PETER DURU MAKURDI—Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State has said the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, is becoming a political action other than an agitation for the welfare of university lecturers. Suswam, who spoke yesterday, when he played host to the leadership of the National Union of Benue Students, NUBES, insisted that the leadership of ASUU was not being realistic with its demands. Gov Suswam According to him, “ASUU has no business continuing with this strike because the Federal Government has met virtually all of their demands. There is nothing in the list of their demands that government has not touched. The Federal government has released N100 billion to upgrade infrastructures in the universities and that money has been distributed among all the universities in the country and most of them have commenced their procurement process. While the sum of N30 billion has also been released to take care of the Earned Allowances of lecturers in federal universities, pending the verification of the number of those that are entitled to it.” Source- www.vanguardngr.com/2013/09/ASUU-strike-becoming-political-suswam/ What is ů̶̲̥я̲ take on this fellow Nigerian students and parents? My own take is that Governor Suswam shud expose d political part to us; he is in d govnt circle and he is in a pole position, he knows beta dan we do. Besides, if d govt is assisting university governing councils with N30B to settle earned allowances as widely claimed, what wud N100B do and in what ways will d sum affect d development of 60 federal universities in d country in consideration of d bogus figures contracts are being bidded, awarded and fractured dis days?? Wat will b d derivative criteria for procurement of d sum by various unis!? We av 60 federal universities, N100B. Depending on d capacity of an institution, infrastructure needs, prestige, research activity and academic resources, ow much/ ow many projects is each university likely to procur? D likes of OAU, UI, UNILAG, UNN. ABU, UNIJOS and oda first generation universities cud get N2-3Billion each. Dis sums in turn cud produce 4-5 or 6 projects in each skul. Whereas, oda 2nd n 3rd generation federal unis cud get between 1- 1.5B, based on d same factors above, to execute 3, 4 or 5 projects. D pertinent question is will dis amount be enough, ASUU must av asked itsef dis question n decided 3-5 projects for an average nigerian university isn't enough; hence d need to strive on. D u tink N100B is ok and wat is getting political about d strike according to Suswam? |
femi4: Are you sure the version you downloaded corresponds to the given keycodeeverytin seems to border on correct protocol; I seem to know everytin about it now after a lot of trials and errors.
