It is not by your self righteousness but humility to accept Christ and His Holy Spirit that brings about genuine righteousness and power to overcome sin.. "our righteousness are as filthy rags".. YOU CAN NEVER ATTAIN RIGHTEOUSNESS WITHOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT... The problem with many of you is that you know how to quote verse out of context at persons or situations, but you dont have even a decent understanding of the message being passed to you in each context you visit.

1. "Who the Son shall set free (by His Holy Spirit) shall truly be free indeed" & "Whoever sins is a SERVANT of sin" - if you paid attention to the context in which those verses were pulled from - John 8 vs 31 - 47 - you would have seen that Jesus Christ was in there teaching the people that it is by through their acceptance and obedience of His teachings(Truth) that they become Sons of God - followers of Jesus Christ - as these by Knowing the Truth are set them free from slavery, to sin and transformed into Sons of God(holy) and fit for God.

2. As many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God- from Roman's 8 vs 14, makes clear that those who are free from Sin - Sons of God, as explained in John 8 vs 31, are those who are truly lead by the Spirit of God.

3. "He who does not have the Spirit of Christ is none of His" - Romans 8 vs 9, is telling that those who are still bound to sin do not belong to Jesus Christ but to the devil, as Jesus Christ told you in John 8 vs 44.

4. As many as received Him, to them He gave power (the Holy Spirit) to become the sons of God" - John 1 vs 12 unless unless your intention is to receive only some of His teachings while you reject the parts that require you should do as He commands, then you will also receive His teachings as given you by Jesus Christ in John 8 vs 31 - 47, so He can give you power by His Truth - His teachings and commandments - , not the Spirit of God, to enable you become to a Son of God.

Do not deceive yourself into believing that God will install Himself into that which is filthy with sin. You cast aspersions on God's character and Truth by audu deceit. There are no ways around the way that is Jesus Christ.

5. "When the Spirit of truth comes He will show you all things" - John 16 vs 13 . Notice how you are already jumping all over the place, all this while trying to prove Jesus Christ, God's Truth, the one to whom the Spirit of Truth belongs, a liar in His declaration to you in John 8 vs 31 - 44. ...

I have said it before.. your decision to accept Jesus and resolve and best efforts to stay away from sin are essential but not adequate! Scripture clearly states that after giving your life to Christ genunely, your former sins will be blotted out and you become a new creature. "If any man be in Christ he is a new creature, old things are passed away and all things are become new" at this stage He gives you His Spirit so you can overcome the battles of sin, the flesh, Satan and the world.. YOU CAN NOT OVERCOME WITHOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT THOUGH YOU HAVE TO COOPERATE WITH THE SPIRIT IN HIS WORK IN YOUR LIFE !

It seems to me that you are still saying one can overcome sin by his own power which is heresy. What you need is to decide that you no longer want to sin. Genuinely repent. Then Christ will give you His Holy Spirit so you can live a life of victory over sin. Go read your Bible. This is basic and trite theology. There is something known as power to overcome sin. This is the Holy Spirit.

Your best efforts are required to overcome sin but never enough without the Holy Spirit.

That is wrong though! Sin is disobedience of God's commandments and so in this case, the only way to defeat sin is to choose obedience of God's comandments/rules instead of disobedience. And this is what Jesus Christ taught in Matthew 7 vs 24 -29 and John 8 vs 31 - 39.

Sin is not magically poofed away. It is born of a choice made in disobedience and only by choosing obedience can anyone be set free from sin.
