Hahaha. Change of Location. I now work with OANDO but that does not stop me from telling people to buy TOTAL if they so desire. But on transmission issues, OANDO and MRS has the highest grade of Dexron 111 in the country and any car that requires Dexron 111, it is advisable to use the right fluid. TOTAL, Conoil, AP and others are Dexron 11D which if used on an electronic controlled transmission will generate issues which are not palatable for the vehicle. Mobil has ATF Dexron 11e and I also recommend it for those that want to use it. Elcid, Is there ATF in your Xterra? If there is none, flush the oil and put fresh one but if the problem remains, then you will need a new valve body. But before then, let us decode the service engine soon light on your dashboard before we move further. Where is your location? |
Sludge can be flushed by using high quality Engine Flush and not those local and outdated engine flush. You pour the Engine Flush in the oil before changing the old oil and start the car for five minutes depending on the level of dirt. After five minutes, drain the oil and filter and replace with new filter and higher grade of oil and you are good to go. Elcid, you did not tell us the model of your car and what oil did you use or if there is ATF in the gear. As to your last question, yes, you can fix it yourself by checking the oil required for your car and buying it and then allow a Mechanic to flush out the old oil and clean the filter and then pour the new ATF in the car and you are good to go. |

Nissan Tilda does not tolerate Seahorse and will behave the way you just described it. Seahorse for your information is Dexron 111D which is not suitable for any vehicle above 1986. Any Nissan will never work with Seahorse, Abro, Total, Conoil, AP, Mobil ATF. Until recently OANDO was selling Dexron 11 but now they sell Dexron 111 but it also limited to some Nissans before 2002. The leakage in the transmission is probably caused by the seal on the pan. They did not seal it properly. Now that the car is in Lagos, let us see it and fix it for you. For the first Tilda, it might be the gear selector. Change the oil and scan the car and let us know what is wrong. The Nissan Matic D is compatible with Pureguard synthetic transmission fluid. It is a multi vehicle transmission fluid that caters for almost all vehicles till 2013 models. Mitsubishi Diamante requires SP111 which you can substitute with PureGuard. Oando now sells Synthetic engine oil which is second to none. Try it and you will be glad you did. Adrenalin Oil might be suitable but the basic concern any motorist should bother himself with is how to eliminate sludge from the engines. If there is sludge in your car, then the oil in the engine is not protecting your engine enough and therefore it has to be flushed out with the old oil before using new oil. Check if there is sludge in your car before changing oil but try using synthetic oil. It is cheaper in the long run and gives your engine the ultimate. Like I said, try Oando synthetic oil. |
Nissan, Nissan. but they can be resolved. My guy from the East, when the gear oil is hot, it stops moving. The transmission fluid acts like a coolant and using Abro, Seahorse and other fluids not suitable for electronic transmissions means serious trouble. Just flush the old oil out, clean or change the gear filter and use the correct fluid will solve the problem but I suggest you scan the car and let me have the codes. Then I will counsel you on the next step to take. CFAO always advises their customers to get a new gear box. They dont want to mess with the repairs. What your friend should do is to scan the car and send us the codes and then I will tell him what to do. 3000 miles or 3 months for conventional oils while synthetic is 6000 miles or 10000 kms or 6 months for synthetic oil. Although synthetic oil tries to eliminate sludge from engines, try and delay the service interval and all you get is sludge and sludge is the number one issue with modern cars. Anyone defending longer service interval should check their engine oil chamber and dip their hand into the chamber and see what comes out. If there is no sludge, congrats, but if there is sludge, congrats too. Please read this. Oil Sludge Problem: Oil sludge is a real problem today. A vehicle cannot be adequately protected with a N3000 oil change. Let's be realistic. Maybe better stated, you get what you pay for...and quality oil changes are the most important maintenance you can do for your vehicle. If an oil sludge problem develops in your vehicle, it will be an extremely expensive repair. More and more people experience issues with poor oil flow due to sludge (where the oil turns to gel). What is the cause of this problem and is it avoidable? The cause is the properties and characteristics of conventional oil becomes stressed. Once a conventional oil reaches the engineering specifications for which it was designed, it will then breakdown into a gel that sticks to your engine and all moving parts in lieu of circulating and keeping your engine cool. As the gel settles in the engine, it actually stores heat instead of providing the cooling necessary for your engine. Sludge is the thickening and breakdown of the oil as it deteriorates, and as moisture and contaminants build up. This is what causes the oil to gel, resulting in excess wear as friction increases or, in extreme cases, a catastrophic failure of the engine due to lack of lubrication between moving parts. There are currently many legal issues and manufacturer litigation around sludge build up. Many companies, such as Volkswagen, have sent out technical service advisories to immediately switch to a fully synthetic oil. Oil sludge usually starts in the top end of an engine (valve cover area) and the oil pan. The immediate damage begins to occur when the sludge or gel begins to block the oil screen siphon. Once this blockage occurs, catastrophic failure of the engine is eminent. The oil level of the engine may actually look fine...but your engine is truly being damaged by every stroke of your crank and camshaft as your engine loses oil pressure and no longer lubricates correctly. This is a huge issue for cars built in 1996 and newer. Why did this start occurring in 1996 and newer vehicles? There are several issues... • Many Lube shops that are competing for market share are trying to differentiate themselves as being the low cost leader and thus competing for consumers that think they are getting a bargain. How do they give oil changes for N300 to N500. Very low performing single grade oil that is purchased in bulk along with very cheap oil filters. Combine the very cheapest products along with very low skilled or inexperienced technicians and you have a N4500 oil change that will only add to sludge and other damage, as well as low performance to your engine and shorten the life of your vehicle. • US Federal Emissions Specifications have really got tough from the mid 1990’s. In 1996 the tighter federal emissions standards were enacted. Combined with leaner fuel mixtures and higher combustion temperatures, sludge starts to appear as a real industry problem. • Fuel economy pressures have led the manufacturers to engineer their vehicles for lower viscosity engine oils. When low quality conventional oil is used, these oils break down very fast in day-to-day driving. This problem can be avoided or mitigated if the sludge formation has begun to occur (something you may not be aware of until it is too late). The only action that can be taken is to change your engine oil to a top quality synthetic oil. OANDO SYN, Mobil 1, Total Q9000 is recommended to replace the conventional oil being used that causes the damage in the first place. Anyone that chooses to use conventional oil is simply asking for severe engine problems. That is not an opinion; it is a proven fact. That is exactly why conventional oil must be changed at 3,000 miles to maintain the minimum protection properties, and OANDO SYN, Mobil 1 at 6,000 miles - pretty significant difference. When changing from a conventional oil to a synthetic, such as OANDO SYN, it is best to first flush the engine and try to clean out the sludge build up. Don't put clean synthetic oil in a dirty engine! When an engine gets dirty, even regular oil changes can't help restore its operating efficiency. The detergent/dispersant's in most conventional engine oils can't handle the abnormal amounts of contamination found in a "dirty" engine. The new oil becomes dirty long before it should, losing much of its ability to lubricate and protect your engine and actually accelerating the formation of more sludge and varnish. In this age of longer recommended drain intervals, it is especially important to have a clean engine before changing oil. It has special solvents and cleaning agents that act fast but gently to remove harmful deposits that can cost you money in excessive fuel consumption and mechanical repairs. That is why I still insist that you cannot go 9000 miles before oil change. The best is 6000 miles or 6 months, even if you import Castrol oil to use here. There are real Mobil 1 being sold in the country. Try the Mobil along Lekki expressway. and the one in Maryland in Ikeja. They cant afford to sell fake oil there. |
Ikenna, I know much about TOTAL Q 9000 and the people that uses TOTAL never complains about the oil. My main concern here is sludge in Engines and how do you ensure that they dont return again. The guy that condemned TOTAL oil, did he check if there was sludge in his engine before changing to TOTAL? Oando syn has just of recent been used on some cars and we will know of its acclaimed performance once the vehicles are due for service. |

Ikenna, I am not quoting from any textbook. I see it every day. In 2005, in a meeting with Coscharis garage, they confided in me that BMW suggested that they should use Mobil 1 instead of Castrol oil as it is not available in the country. With their long interval of 20000 kms, they discovered that there was sludge in all the 3 and 5 series that they serviced. Only the 7 series were not common with sludge related issues. The reason for the 7 series lower sludge related issues was because the car is hardly used on a daily basis.Today, there is a 1 series BMW in my garage and it is choked with sludge. The owner uses Mobil 1. The number 1 problem today is sludge and whoever ignores it is ready to spend money which we, Mechanics are always looking for. My customers rush down once they are close to the date given to them on their stickers and their cars are in top shape. Total Q 9000 is very well known to me because I worked with the product consistently for 2 years and in the beginning, nobody wanted it but now, it is the market leader. There was a lady that I changed her oil and used Q9000 in her Range Rover Sport and immediately I took the jeep to her, she was mad at me that I wanted to destroy her Jeep. 30 mins later, a Mechanic from Coscharis rushed down to VI on a bike with Mobil 1 and drained out the Q9000 in the Jeep. My interaction with TOTAL lubes engineer was that it can go up to 20000kms but we disagreed to now agree at 10000 kms or 6000miles and 6 months interval. Now, I am experimenting with OANDO Synthetic and am monitoring its performance based on the cars that I have used it on. I guess that oil will be the market leader soon. Barka da sallah |

If you use Quartz 9000, then it is 6 months and 10000 kilometers or 6000 miles. Transmission fluids are to be changed at every 15000 miles or the equivalent in kilometers or every year. Forget all those life time oil. It is at your own peril. We happen to observe cars that run on conventional oils are better serviced at 3000 miles or 5000 kilometers and when they come back after three months, no sludge in the engines. But if they come after 4 months, you will see sludge all over the engine oil chamber. The conventional 3 months is better or 6 months for synthetic oils. |

Mercon V and our Pure Guard Synthetic transmission fluid is best suited for it. But you can also buy Motorcraft ATF from Ford Briscoe. Their price is a little bit lower than our price but other than that, dont buy from the open market because of credibility issues. Mercon V is a unique FORD transmission fluid but they now use Mercon LV and SP which is for their latest models. For engine oil, I will recommend OANDO SM any time. One of the best oils best adapted to our peculiar driving environment. They also have synthetic oil which is gradually taking over the market though not officially launched. |

I drive a Range Sport and am the happiest guy whenever am on the road crisscrossing Nigeria with the Rig. Put it on manual gear and you become the king of the road. No APC or N Party. Just you. I have only changed the air suspension just once and my catalyst is gone and that is all. I spend 12000 for fuel on a trip from Lagos to Abuja. I have flung the rig to as far as Kaduna, Bauchi, Makurdi, Enugu and back to Lagos, No shaking. No Jeep like Range Rover Sport. I am saving money to buy the 2014 Sport. Just Started saving anyway. I have 400 usd now and the 5.0 Supercharged is 88000 usd. Please your donation will be thankfully received. Just Joking. Great Jeep and same thing with the LR3. But the parts are damn too expensive so it is recommended that before joining the club, calculate well if your membership of the club will be an eternal affair or come and go affair. |
Oando has one of the highest quality oils but whatever oil you use, ensure that there is no sludge in your engine. Your Lexus should use TYP 1V and it is compatible with our Dexron 6 Global Standard synthetic transmission fluid. For the Hybrid, you can use NS2 but not in the blue container but buy one litre bottle |

The Check light is just to let you know that something is wrong in the powertrain of your car. All that is needed is for you to use a scanner to read the errors. Sometimes, it is just an old problem that has been resolved and all that is needed is to clear the fault codes. When you dip ur hand in the oil chamber, if there is gel or black coloured sand, then you need to flush it. Flush it only once and then maintain the quarterly oil change and then you will have a cool engine. Toyota Avalon uses Dexron 11 and 111. I will suggest that you use OANDO and MRS Dexron 111. It is available in the open market, that is in all the outlets of the Marketing Companies. Check your engine oil chamber if there is sludge and flush the engine using engine flush, not those Abro type of flush. Any Engine oil will do. Oando SM or Total Q7000 will serve the purpose. |
