Did you expect your friend to just leave the house without consulting the wife? A marriage involves the man and the woman, the man or the woman cannot just make any decision. I am happy for your friend because he realizes that but I'm sorry for you cause you fail to realize that there is more to marriage.

For someone that works in the Korean embassy, first and foremost why can't you bring in your wife and it is done in every country so don't term the nigerian ladies.

Stupid laws are made in Nigeria. How can a parent go to jail for flogging their kids. If this type of law is to be carried out, it should start from the government and the police itself. What do the government have to say about police brutality. In the Western world, you are innocent until proved guilty but not so in Nigeria. You undergo torture if suspected of a crime. Is that not flogging of an innocent person or a policeman slapping bus driver because of 20 naira. All that is left aside for a parent trying to teach his/her child morals. Although I will not dispute the fact that some parent over do it but it makes a child stronger.

There are two sides to the coin, depending on how you view it, most of our kids are not outspoken and they are not given the chance to express themselves but that should not stop a parent from disciplining their child.

When are we going to learn to appreciate our culture

Women like to look for trouble for themselves. A guy not wanting to take his wife to the village has a reason, for the mother to come all the way from whatever village she is from to come and see you, you should know that there is a problem so where. I have never been to my parent's village before. My grandparents ran away from their village when the jinx was too much for them to take. My parents rarely go there because they know the outcome of going there often. If my mum had insisted on going to see my father's people only God knows what the outcome will be.
