Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Installing A Motorised Satellite Dish System by spaceman(m): 10:05am On Mar 15, 2010
I took time out during the weekend to study the hh motor I wanted to buy for my 90cm dish. I however decided to configure/operate my 63X Dx for motorised settings, though a motor was not connected to it.
Using the USAL mode, its quite sweet to motorize a dish, u could see the movement on the screen as the Dx controls the dish to the selected satellite.
I configured for Astra 2B and Sirius 4. Whenever I change channel to any of these two, i have to wait a bit for the Dx to perform motor control to the satellite, because the decoder believes a motor was connected.
The good thing i found on this motorized is that, having only one dish, you can move your dish to any location you want while sitting comfortably in your room. Again, you can limit the movement of the motor to the satellite you want.
However, I found some limitations which made me to suspend the buying of the motor.
1-The time it takes to move from W3a to Sirius 4 was too much for me to wait-especially when goodies are happening @ the other side, compared to changing channels on fixed dishes, you have to wait for the motor to move to that location. It therefore means the more you keep changing channels across satellite, the more the motor keeps moving.
I have a 90 cm and a 60cm dish. I could connect a 90cm dish just to pan between Eutelsat W4, Astra 2B, W3a and S4. Dedicate the 60cm to pass10, and my 1.8m dish dedicated to nss7ku, c,/nilesat.
Now, if I am to connect like above, I will have to dedicate all the ones for the motor to a single port on my diseqc switch, where the limit of the motor has been set to move between these satellites only. Then, the other satellites/dish could go on different port on the diseqc switch.
By this arrangement, i think my initial fear of how to connect the motor to a switch has been laid to rest.
I have not tried this, but I think it will work.
I hope to post a diagram later to illustrate what I have just said
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Installing A Motorised Satellite Dish System by spaceman(m): 4:26pm On Mar 12, 2010
One thing I want us to deal with here again, is the combination of such motorised system with a diseqc switch.
Take for example, I have a 90cm dish, a 60 cm dish, and a 180 cm dish. Now I want to motorise the 90 cm to track pass10, W4,A2B, W3A, Sirius 4, Nss7KU if the motor could span this, yet leave the 180cm for nilesat. Here I have only one decoder to only one TV
The ? now is: How would one connect these two dishes via a diseqc switch, with regards to motor response to command from the decoder?
Know fully well that Signal from nilesat is independent of the motor. Would there not be proble?

Thank you

Good to be here.
I would like you to make a simple list of common dxs around that are USAL compartible.
Some indicate USALs on the Dx, some do not.
Do Strong Dxs work well with USALS?. I knnpw it is written that it is compartible, but not sure how good it is on USALs
Hope u respond timely.
Its a good thread bro

greetings to all Hunters on this forum
I called Strong Solutions Ltd Abuja yesterday, and inquire for the price of the 4669x.
I was told it goes for 16K, though I would have to pay in the bank
I foresee the price coming down.
Its tym I joine the house to jolly the mpeg 4 signal
Hope you have a great day

@all,

, in my place over here, there are so may people i know that stopped dstv and hitv subscription to watch the normal fta when they discovered they have just been throwing away monies in the bin.fta set up over here is just like electric bulbs on the streets,it has become something normal like having an antena just outside your roof.i think "spaceman" can bear witness to this when he came around and saw the way fta set up were hanged every angle u turn around to,

Inshort dishes ligth up the streets grin
To be honest, I dont think I counted ip to 4 dishes pointing at Eut.W4 especially with the feather of afro magik. During my stay in that vicinity I stayed while in Kano. Here in abuja, most ment pay the paytvs just to certisfy their wife who want to stay glued to magiks in afrika, not even thinking of what the man will eat when he is back home, my people perish for lack of knowledge,

As most have said on this issue, the pay tv should develop an effective and customer friendly marketting strategy. Not extortion nor by intimidation.

bigabbey:
pls ogas in the house how can i get HHH motorised to scan w3A and others.
Do you have the HH Motor now? I yes what is the make and the size of dish it is specified for.
Remember, W3A I will advice no less than 90cm dish. Pass 7/10, Eutelsat W4, Sirius 4, Astra 2B, Nss7Ku you are goo to go with 60cm
22W + 69E=91 deg. Hope your motor can span this angle?
The technicalities i know of, i will post soon
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by spaceman(m): 4:33pm On Feb 16, 2010
@Sun-sat
IF I UNDERSTOOD YOUR PROBLEM
Remember your disecq switch has inputs and one output. with 4x1 disecq switch, you can connect 4 different lnb to it , and only one output to your receiver.
you have to remenber that using your diseqc switch, you have to assign satellites to the ports, else u get nothing. This enables the Rx to recognise the signal coming from a partic. port. only assigned signals are allowed tghrough designated ports
I mean if yuo assign Astra 2B to port 1, your Rx will only recognise port 1 for astra 2B, You can assign more than one satellite to a port/disecq output.
I hope this will help, if at all I get you right.
Feedback as usual
Enjoy

good to be here again
@ Sun-sat
bros just make sure there is no short circuiting on you line. especially at the F-connector where u connect to the Rx, as pointed out by Ibaku, before u take it for check-up
Again, on the issue of 4652 Dx, Its sensitivity is very low compared to the X series. This was my experience on saturday while tracking Pass 7/10 with a 4650 or 4652 i cant realy remember. I had to bring in my 63X  and I was able to get full red bars indicating that my LNB connection was ok before tracking.
@ George-d and all steady poster, good job

good to see good things hapening from the hands of great and honorable members of this our intellectually inductive, mind librating, and explorative forum
On the issue of Fixed Vs Motorised dish.
To me, the advantages and shortcomings of both have been highlited. individual can now consider these and make up their mind on what method to embak upon, considering the resources  required. As have been said, it depend on what u want. But motorised, exposes you to so many advantages as stated by
Lolusky andOlofofo last post.

5m, 6m,----- . I thinkwe are heading to do the work of the Nigeria sprace research Agency. may be some of us shoulsd start thinking of designing  and constructiing a space shuttle. Enitan takes charge of the physics of launching, Dejsam takes charge of procurement and logistiks, George-D Manages while Butonday, Pito, Olofofo and others are part of a NEW 15-man Technical Crew. Not a bad proposal anyway wink

My brother story chnage o
On getting to Copenhagen a/port, some connecting flights were cancelled, flight to Amsterdam was disrupted due to the heavy snowfall in this region. Going to Amsterdam was not much the problem, but there was no point going to Amsterdam and be stranded under the snow. serious commotion at the a/port.
I was forced to reschedule for 24th since I could not get any connecting route, hoping that snow no go stop man.
Man the cold no be small o. i no wan die here.
Anyway thanks for your concern.Keep the flag flying.

Good to see the forum is still very active and interractive.
The heavy down pour of snow here realy limited my quest for practical fta tools and practice in this region.
Nonetheless, I will still repeat here that its a good thing we can track Nilesat in Nigeria.
Combined with other fta channels I think we should be satisfied.
As I prepare to make my way back to Naija today, i wish every Forum member a merry Xmass in advance.
@ oga George, enitan, Dejsam, catch u @ the back yard soon.

In Copenhagen, 1 thing i know i will always look out for is the kind of satellite & dish arrangement people here use.
We are blessed with Nilesat and all others bak home my people.
Here u are being taxed for the properties u amassed, not so much homes hang satellite dish as in Naija(where we no know anythn like tax), coupled with the heavy down pour of snow now, satellite reception is seriously impeded. The few iv seen are the 60cm size.
Again, Tv broadcast here has already gone digitall, homes with analog Rxs use digital terestrial Rxs to be able to view progs on tv.
In 1 of the shopping centre i visited-EL GIGANTEN-electronic giant, I was only able to find Strong Digital Terestrial Rxs, Strong 4900/4910 was my tagret, but I was only able to c 1 Samsung satellite Rx which cost 3000 kron, abot N90,000. Im still interested in d strong anyway.

@ Adaxy.
I stay in Dutse Alhaji
Eutelsat W3A parameters from your end-
Elevation: 79.2°
Azimuth (true): 182.4°
Azimuth (magn.): 184.0°
LNB Skew [?]: 2.4° . thats about 1-2 o clock, facing the dish, ie Turn counter-clockwise standing behind the dish, or Turn clockwise standing in front of the dish

11192 V/3210- mbc mauritius
10976 V/333- tv malagasy
12728 V/30000-free2view channels.--LCF,tv zimbo, tpa etc
you can do the tracking using the mbc tp or the free2view tp. they are not diifc. to get.

thanks alot for that link
Iv always known my end to be of 1.7 degrees magnetic variation, which the link has confirmed for me. thank you
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by spaceman(m): 2:18pm On Nov 04, 2009
@ Olofofo.
Here is another practical approach.
If u know the azimuth value of W3A- that's an example of a satellite that is almost true south--at my end its 182.4 deg true azimuth, and the magnetic azimuth is 184 deg.
Now if u face directly to the W3A, using ur already W3A-receiving dish as a guide, hold your compass in that direction, and read what it gives u. With this I think your compass should give a value u can now compare what George-D and Enitan gave.
good luck and feed back.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by spaceman(m): 2:00pm On Nov 04, 2009
@Olayinkaoj
Bros me it is high time u grew from asking too many ?s at once.
It doesnt matter wether you have Sirius 4 on your Dx or not. select the sirius u find on ur Dx, input the tp u were given and do the tracking!
As for , "good stations receivable in S/W Nigeria, " Its up to you. go do the tracking firts and see 4 ur self.
Olayinkaoj:
@ Olofofo
But my other question remains:, Eutelsat4 is at 36.0°E while sirus 4 is on 4.8E and as u said that name of satellite position dont matter, if I now use Eutelsat4 for to track sirus 4 channels, it means I will hav to do the tracking on 4.8E position.

Please confirm
yes. and no wahala! but just leave it on Sirius 300000000 on ur Dx winkand carry go

@Olofofo.
wa dagba, wa di arugbo lo le i
igba odun odun kan
Enitan has given you a good answer, work withing that limit, u are sure to get result.
By the way what make of compass are u using?
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by spaceman(m): 4:26pm On Oct 23, 2009
@ enitan/solo1ng
I wnated to install on H-H motor-Navigator some three weeks ago, but I was discouraged then when I discovered the dealer had misplaced all the anchor part, leaving only the motor to sell for 4k, equally I do not have a 90cm dish.
Though the Navigator carries 1.2m dish(max), its suitable for me to use it to track all foot-print(ku) satellites-pass7/10,Astra 2B, W3a, S4 and Nss7Ku- along the satellite arc while I fix my 1.8m to catch nillesat, and other suitable C-bands in space
It appears to b d best way to maximise a small dish, rather than assembling dishes. Ur landlord self no go take am easy wit u if u no buy am 1 dish grin
Now there is no system without limitation I want us to look at one aspect of it very well.
I learnt the motor may not work properly if the motor is connected after a diseqc switch, for a situation where u have one fixed dish and the other to b manipulated by the motor, rather it should be before it.
i know its beter to try and c, but what is ur take on this?
jolyful weekend for all the hunters

Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by spaceman(m): 5:04pm On Oct 22, 2009
@ Olatiler
It is quite unfortunate that you end up catching NSS7 instead of Intel 907.
Remember daarsat is MPEG4 and your 4663X (If thats what u use) cant give you green.
The tp 11675H which I think could have been of help I doubt its its functionality for now.
Now focus your dish well on NSS7-track it. NSS7 and Int 907 are just 3deg apart on the azimuth, and 6 deg apart on the elevation.
Now stand behind the dish(with nss7 fully tracked) tap your dish to your right (3 degrees) and tap it down (6 degrees). change  parameters to 11555H/30000.  experiment within this limit you are sure to get daarsat with your daarbox.
I do hope you understand the amount of turn (approximate) that should give you 3 and 6 degrees respectively
good luk.

@Gorge_D
thanks so much. i stay in Abj. i track my w3a with the same 1.8m i use fo nile. can i still use it 4 w6? how far is the distance to w3a. cos d w3a is just to d left of nile if standing in front of the dish.
@ arabambi
Remember both birds are off-foot print in Abuja.
W6 is foot-printed in the north west of Nigeria. Now it will not be easy for u to track the two with one dish-1.8m
The lnb for your nilesat is at the prime focus of ur dish I guess. The multi-tagging of lnb on such dish is suitable for birds with strong foot-print in ur area. You may have to change d direction of your dish to W6 and see the signal strength u get first, then you will know if its possible. It will not be easy to combine nilesat and W6 on 1.8m dish.
As the elders of this forum will say, .why not try and motorise your dish?
Nothing is impossible, give it a trial and lets get some f/back from you
Enjoy

Try this if u can and feedback.
If u are using Fuji 0.3db lnb, try replace it with a Supermax 0.5db and see.
In my case I gota signal boost of about 20% on 1.8m prime focus pan dish.
Though I removed the Supermax lnb cover without cutting it, may be my fuji has dropped sensitivity

This is the TP I promised on Tandberge service-W3A.
11184H/05703 is what my Strong Dx showed me.
However, u have to blind scan by weekend afternoon to see what comes up, the symbol rate may not be exactly what is being transmitted. Could be slightly higher, because I did experienced fluctuation between 54% to 59%. I never bothered to fine tune my lnb anyway.
Promise fulfilled!

Good to c u guys posting again.
@ all,
I help my neighbor re-align his dish for MyTv yesterday night. After successful tracking, I discovered a strange behavior of his Strong SRT 4661X.
When powered on, the receiver stays on for less than a minute and automatically powers off. You need press the power button on the remote again for it to come on, and sometimes switch off and on from the rear to put it on again. This was not so when I was doing the tracking.
What could be wrong house?
