NJN: Hello justwise, spikeC, naijamark and All,
Kindly assist with enquiries below;
1. How long does it take for interview invitation after visa application? 2. There is a situation. A part-pymt was made to school IRO tuition fee. This is yet to be acknowledged by the school. Hopefully this should be done before end of this week. Meanwhile I'll like to commence ma visa application process. Can I go ahead (and hope that before I'm invited for interview my CAS is accordingly updated to reflect this payment) or should I wait for the school to acknowledge and update my CAS before I commence visa application? In summary, can CAS be updated between period of visa application and interview? 1. You do not get INVITED, you book your interview date on the website when applying 2. You cannot apply for visa without your school CAS. You need the information in the CAS |

Can someone please throw more light on this? There is no main visa. When you get to the UK, you'll go to the city where your school is located and register (mark present uncle). They will issue you with a biometric card. The biometric card is what you would be using in the UK |

Yes, there is a vaf9 form that you have to download, print and fill. It contains quite a bit of what you already filled in online so it won't be much of a problem to you. Infact, it is just a checklist of the requirements |

And point of correction your statement is not true of Ghana ranking high in the number of illegal universities in west Africa. Cos there is no ranking of such. The only one is a list of illegal schools in the country. Of which Nigeria is not exempted. Nigeria is not an attractive educational destination cos things are not right in that sector . Given the opportunity many Nigerians would want to pick one of the best schools in the work to study in but that is not financially possible considering how much it will cost to do that.
You don't jump down on people because they are not studying in one of those highly ranked schools in the world when your own school is not even classified. |

Is it that people are so uneducated that they don't know what human rights abuse is? Is it not on this same forum that videos and pictures of the Nigerian military torturing civilians are posted, which even can be found on youtube. Is it not a common knowledge that the Nigerian military is dictatorial and oppresses it's civilian population on every chance they get. Has the phrase 'bloody civilians' and what it depicts been forgotten already?
Seems like Amnesty International needs to provide 'basic' education to Nigerians before giving them redemption |

runzlord: c++ supposed to be an update of c, and i said one language, i did not say without updates, cos if they were really one language, it will still be updated na When you say just one language, I take it you mean a language that can be used to program everything, right? C and C++ is not the same thing. C++ is also not, literally, an update of C They're two different languages but very closely related as C++ is derived from C Quick highlight: some companies reject applicants who lists 'C/C++' as a language they know. This shows that you don't know the difference between both languages even though you claim to have expertise on them. Other more liberal companies would open that up as a series of interview questions, asking you why you did it. |

Subset and lincolnpix You guys messed up so bad. Having read the whole thread, it is so obvious you don't even know what you're fighting for. lincolnpix is definitely In the wrong in the aspect of deliverables (having dodged those questions) and tried to milk out monthly stipends from you (if and only if it was never agreed upon before and you didn't ask him to maintain the website every month). You also cannot deny your client access to his data. If you can't give him database access, export the data (user data) as csv and give to him. Subset, you made a mistake by not reading and understanding the contract. Obscurity in contract is never the lincolnpix problem. What you do not understand, you ask or seek legal advice. All these dumb people here accusing him of intentionally making the contract terms hard to understand are plain stupid. It is obvious they have never seen a contract/terms and conditions document before. If you want access to the codes to power your website, reach an agreement with your developer and get it from him. Lincolnpix, like I said before, there're so many ways to keep a client coming back and what you did is not one of them. Try to resolve this issue with him and see where it leads. For your code, I'll make it clear; YOU HAVE EVERY RIGHT, BY LAW, TO PROTECT YOUR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY IF YOU BELIEVE IT QUALIFIES AS ONE. A PROGRAM CODE, WHETHER ORIGINALLY WRITTEN OR MODIFIED VERSION OF A FREELY LICENSED FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSES ONE IS A PROGRAMMERS INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY. You decide morally or by ethics to give access partially or fully to any other person. Anybody who says otherwise, should go get educated |

This is why I hate threads from this section going to the front page. It attracts too many ignorants, illiterates and literally dumb people. No offence to anyone pak: I feel sad when I read comments like this. It is one of the main reasons why the ICT field has been severely stunted in this climes. The problem about ICT (unlike professions like law and medicine) is that anybody can just jump in at any point and muddle the waters. There is a saying in ICT policy - 'Paying for the use of codes does not confer ownership' It's simple, when you buy a Taylor Swift CD does that confer you the copyright on her songs ? No. You only have limited rights to the copy of that song you bought. Unless you hired the programmer as a staff under your employ as at the time of developing the software, then what you are paying for his a service or at best an end product. We are quick to run down our own developers and demand the moon on a stick but how many people using original microsoft office or any original proprietary software has demanded the source code from the developer without any prior arrangement, yet we are ready to do that to local developers, how fair is that ? An Indian will develop a software and yet the Nigerian companies will still pay him to come and train them on the same software that they paid for (travel expense and all). I am all for the rights of the customer but let's be considerate on practitioners. I have a software that I started developing in 2009 and it has undergone several upgrades and I still work on it till today with about 8 clients using it. Imagine one of the clients requesting that my sweat and blood for the past 6 years should be given to him warts and all just because he paid me to deploy it for him ? Yeah, I can give a client copyrights/ownership to my codes but he has to pay for it as separate from the license to use the codes. Spare a thought for the software industry Intellectual property is foreign to the ears of most Nigerians. They literally don't understand what you're talking about |

Webmasters › Re: Pls Advice: A Developer Has Refused My Access To The Website Database I Paid For by spikesC(m): 1:24pm On Jun 22, 2015 |
Craigston: I think the guy's speculating a job there: he wants to maintain the site and have you pay him. If under your agreement the source codes belong to you, then you are free to use legal action. Given that you've made full payment, it's all yours. And if he refuses to yield, he too is yours But do you know any other thing about him? Oh, you've not met him before? Talk about freelance. Do you have any valid identification of him? His portfolio, facebook, phone numbers, real names? Do you have a copy of the agreement you signed? Probably, there was never an agreement/discussion on who owns the code. On this topic, I always favor the right of ownership to the client. When developers own codes, it restricts the development and maintenance of the service to the developer which has a lot of negative factors. 1. What happens when the developer is not available due to extenuating circumstances like death, change of career or indefinite loss of contact. 2. What happens when the client is not satisfied with the developer's services or new terms of contract. The client is indefinitely tied to one developer who can do as he pleases including raising service fees abnormally and the decline of service quality. 3. What if the client just want to change a service provider, or hand over the project to a new developer for upgrades. These are just few examples which can go on and on. Morally, you can't tie a client down to purchase your service this way even when he wants to leave. An unhappy client is never good for business. There're so many other ways to keep a client coming back, holding him at ransom is definitely not one of them |
Webmasters › Re: Pls Advice: A Developer Has Refused My Access To The Website Database I Paid For by spikesC(m): 1:10pm On Jun 22, 2015 |
olyivy: You cannot decide that for him. You just said it yourself, "about to dupe" and not "have duped". It is only right for him to expose the guy ONLY when he confirms that he has been duped. herald9: A dude is about to dupe you, yet you're hiding his identity. Maybe there is more to the story you don't want us to hear. Come back when you are serious. The OP just came to get advise and pointers on this kind of situations, he never said he was being duped or anything. The developer, probably, is protecting his IP in the sense that he owns the codes while the client owns the service. Therefore, he's securing his future income. This is a delicate topic that would have been quite useful if it would be discussed here, maturely, rather than all these childish name calling and degradation...which brings me to ask; Why are current upcoming 'web developers' on Nairaland enjoy bringing each other down |

naijamark: That's very wrong. Since you're paying your own tuition (either you've fully or partly paid, or you're submitting a bank statement indicating the amount), then you're on general tier 4. You're tier 4 sponsored if and only if a government or multinational agency is paying your fees Schools can sponsor students. If his school is funding his maintenance allowance, they would provide him with a sponsorship letter. You do not use a sponsorship letter under Tier 4 General. I would even advise he goes through Tier 4 sponsored, even if he's not paying his school fees fully. |

However, I'll b submitting statement for tuition fees. So, in summary... school is paying for living costs, while I'm paying tuition fees... which do u think I should use in this circumstance? You don't need to submit statement for tuition fees. That is covered by your CAS.
