In reaction to a message placed on a hotel door in Benin, Edo state banning weed and other hard drugs, the singer said 75% of Nigerian artistes cannot stay where the notice on ban of drugs is placed.



The notice which reads: “Please be advised that smoking of WEED or taking of any HARD DRUGS in the rooms are highly prohibited with consequences such as automatic checkout or being handed over to law enforcement agency.”




Banky W took to his Snapchat page and wrote: “Lol… now this means 75% of the music business can’t stay here.”



A lot of musicians will tell you they are self-motivated and their drive comes from the love for their craft. But in reality, we know where their energy comes from.

Earlier this week, a young man identified as Tagbo Umeike allegedly died in the company of music star Davido on Tuesday. According to reports, Tagbo allegedly tied as a result of drinking multiple shots of alcohol.

Nollywood actress, Caroline Danjuma accused Davido of being complicit in Tagbo’s death who was her boyfriend.

She immediately took to her Instagram page to express her shock:“Davido where is Tagbo, he was with you and your crew last night. You all wore face cap to hide your identities after he died in your car. You dumped him at general hospital and ran away. The law must play its role this time”.
Davido has however debunked Danjuma’s accusations. According to him: “People are just wicked. This is what I get for treating everyone like my brother.



“First and foremost my sincere condolences and prayers are with his family at this time.

“I’ve been in the same position before, multiple times and also of recent – but it is disappointing that false information and complete lies have been put out there using my name, as usual.”

Just when the ‘Pere’ singer was yet to recover from the shock of Tagbo’s death, his other friends
DJ Olu and Chime were reportedly found dead in his car on Saturday night. Abiodun and Chime are close friends of Davido. They were found lifeless in his car. This series of deaths has become the subject of discussion on social media.

We were more than fifty individuals who thronged into the Silverbird Cinema hall on Friday 23rd of September to see Dance to my beat, a new flick produced by the beautiful Nollywood actress, Mary Lazarus. The film sets off with the right dose of humour from the beginning to the very end. As the world celebrates Fela Kuti’s 20 years memorial anniversary, recalling his indelible contributions to world music, It is sad that his shoes are yet to be filled.

According to Remi Adekoya:”Fela’s lyrics were scathing denunciations of Nigeria’s socio-economic reality. He focused on corruption, abuse of power, mental emancipation from colonialism and the need for Nigerians to stand up for their rights”.

His weapon was music, speaking truth to power via his genre Afrobeat. Fela’s songs were sarcastic, dark, and straight from the heart.

In 1977, following the government’s attack on Fela’s home, Kalakuta Republic, Fela released Sorrows, Tears and Blood.

“Everybody run, run, run/everybody scatter, scatter/Some people lost some bread/Some people just die … Them leave sorrow, tears, and blood/them regular trademark” . These words affirms army’s reign of tyranny and terror. Fela’s portrays this in his music.



At this critical phase of our nationhood when the prevailing chant on the streets are hunger and anger amid profound dissatisfaction over the incompetence of the Buhari led administration, there is no better time for Nigerian musicians to speak truth to power than this moment.

I have attended several comedy shows this year. Many of such shows reek of average jokes, same artiste line-up and nothing exceptional to look forward to.

For Kenny Blaq’s show, I nursed my own secret fears hoping that the talented youngster will not join the throng of comedians who do the same old jokes and package them in a comedy show. These shows can be likened to an attractive wall painting that is beautiful from afar but gets you frustrated on closer inspection.

Kenny Blaq didn’t disappoint. I am still stunned at the way he weaved jokes into popular Nigerian hit songs. He took it a step further, performed with a live band with backup vocalists and re-enacted his jokes on stage using some actors who played their roles well.

Entertainers have taken a stand against the federal government’s plan to ban shooting of music videos and films abroad. The purported plan made known to the Minister of Information, Alhaji. Lai Mohammed recently in Lagos has sparked off reactions among popular Nigerian entertainers saying the planned policy will do more harm than good to the Nigerian economy.



TheNewsGuru in an exclusive chat with some of these showbiz practitioners reports that they urge the federal government to lead by example.

Nigerian Afro-pop singer and CEO, Next World Entertainment, Jaywon opines that the federal government needs to be part of what the Nigerian entertainment Industry has become.



According to him:” They should be proud of us for putting Nigeria on the entertainment map of the world without structures or enabling environment from the government”.

He notes that If the government wants the planned policy to work, then they should lead by example.

“If they want us to do everything in Nigeria they should lead by example. As a good leader or father, you should lead by example”, he said

Nigerian soulful singer Gt Da Guitarman argues that though made in Nigerian goods and services are good for the economy, but there the country lacks the conducive environment needed to get things done .

1.TBoss failed to shine

Amidst the hype that greeted the announcement of TBoss and Bassey as the compere for the show, the former Big Brother Naija stars failed to add spark and energy to the event.

When they mounted the stage, the fire in Bassey’s voice got us to pay attention, but TBoss couldn’t sustain it with the right statements to compliment Bassey. Perhaps the event would have started on a bright note If she had granted the request of Bassey, who teased her to twerk.

2.Efe’s lacklustre performance

If Big Brother Naija winner, Efe must reign in the Nigerian music terrain, then he needs to upgrade his performance technique. As a rapper, delivering an engaging performance has gone beyond jumping the length and breadth of the stage. Efe’s honey -moon period is over and when it comes to music ratings, Nigerian music lovers will evaluate him, just the way they evaluate any other pop star.

His performance at Funny Bone Untamed was not based on logistics; he needs to master the art of giving an irresistible stage performance.



3 Helen Paul succeeded in delivering drab jokes

No doubt Helen Paul is a force to be reckoned with in the Nigerian comedy industry. The comedienne mounted the stage like someone who was told to deliver spontaneous jokes.At the end of her 5 minutes allotted time, Paul was unable to throw a major punch line that will get the audience cackling
