Poly Wetinhuh??
Plese don't even think about it, i grew up in one, I'm getting married soon and i cannot wait to get out, MY mum is the first wife when the wahala was too much she moved out a few years ago, i even encouraged her. Polygamy is not it at all.
My siblings and I went through a lot off attracks spiritually , if you get my drift, all sorts of "juju "
Can't write it all.
i think that when you've experienced polygamy you wont want to put yourself or kids in that situation. nigerian men are often in denial about how difficult it is for 2,3 or 4 women to exist side by side in the same house.Last time i checked 2 captains cant man a ship. it'll sink. grin. the women may "behave" when he's around but how about when he's gone?

n.b: and oh, i think its unhygenic! lipsrsealed

I guess she has not heard about the folks in Utah then. The thing is right here in the US.
Yes. Utah is just about the only place polygamy is practised (by mostly mormons). Infact being married to more than one woman at a time is illegal in the united states! Tell that to nigerians! grin

Nice one, fromuk. marry a teacher grin

Honestly, used to think like that too. will definately not want to marry a banker or a management consultant, who has to work excruciating hours.

Doctors, civil servants, lecturers, teachers, researchers, are the best people to marry. tongue
did you say doctors? shocked

the other day, i was trying to explain the concept of polygamy to a co- worker here. she was looking at me like i had grown horns. she couldn't even begin to comprehend what the heck i was talking about. she kept asking "how the hell is that possible?" my answer to her? I DON'T KNOW! grin

are you saying that if she didnt have a university degree he wouldnt have married her? shocked
im just kidding! grin she has to come clean with any other lies under her belt because truly your lies will always find you out no matter how long it takes. undecided
granted she lied! fine. but she has been good enough for him up until now. what difference should it make because he has discovered she doesnt have the almighty univesity degree? (not that having a degree makes for a better wife but that's another whole new thread all together)
he should encourage her to further her education and move ahead instead of whining over the issue.

as a woman with a career, life is excrutiating. undecided
no one said it wud be easy but you just have to do it all. yep. you run straight from the board room to the kitchen to start dinner still in your heels!
it takes a lot out of you. none has to suffer but succeeding at both entails giving up some hours of sleep.afterall you are first to wake, last to sleep! shocked

@davidylan
didnt know people orgasmed over prenups! grin grin grin

Family › Re: Prenuptial Agreements by spoilt(f): 1:58am On Mar 31, 2007
usually pre-nup agreements put into consideration children born during the course of a marriage. it also considers if the woman (or man) is allowed to work and earn a living.
But at the end of the day, nigeria is a different kind of place where nothing works! going to court would be a laugh.

I know that divorces that had prenups are generally less messier than where there was none. both parties usually(but not always) TRY and stick to the agreement that they signed.
but where there's none, i need not describe to you the mayhem that erupts! shocked
Family › Re: Prenuptial Agreements by spoilt(f): 1:36am On Mar 31, 2007
that would be the joke of the century! who will listen to her. cry
but then on the other hand it also protects rich men's children because after a divorce if there's a pre-nup it makes provision for the children to continue to live in the manner to which they are accustomed.
many a time a rich man in naija divorces his first wife and she and her children get almost nothing!!! shocked shocked. its hard to believe but they just have the name and the status but live almost in penury. he frolicks off with the new nubile wife while the ex and kids (especially if very young) barely exist. undecided

As for involving parents in my marriage. You make it sound like it is childish. Dear, have you ever attended a traditional wedding where the parents where not involved? Please let me know when u fiind one.
@davidylan
no one said anything about not involving them in the traditional wedding. sure they'll help in the planning. grin
but why should they have to know how much im worth to the last penny or how much my husband is worth? or if im having an agreement with my husband as to our financial matters?
anyway im sure most traditional parents would just looooooooove their sons to sign prenups! grin grin
the name may sound offensive but then we can always find another traditional name to call it. so it doesnt seem so outrageous. and it doesnt seem like something strange adopted from the west! grin grin
they would just love it so that the little wife doesnt walk away with their son's wealth! i know manyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy naija parents that would wish we had that in our country.
Family › Re: Prenuptial Agreements by spoilt(f): 12:47am On Mar 31, 2007
@davidylan
if you dont want a prenup good luck to you! your choice. and if you want to involve your parents in your financial matters, then better luck to you.
Family › Re: Prenuptial Agreements by spoilt(f): 12:35am On Mar 31, 2007
All those endorsing pre-nups at the moment (the women especially) should wait until they are about to get married. Then ask your traditional parents to send a lawyer to your fiance's house to sign a pre-nup!
@ davidylan

which one concern your parents in your pre-nup? huh
do people still ask permission from parents to do anything? shocked
