its a slang dear and doesnt have the same dictionary meaning just like all slangs. you either didnt grow up in naija or you didnt go to boarding school. this slang is as old as they come!

ive almost stopped watching cnn because they always depict africa in bad light. nothing good can be seen in their reports.it always has to be one sided.  it doesnt matter what the report is about it just has to be negative. they also give warnings to americans on how to be careful when travelling over there so as not to be robbed, raped, beaten, duped etc and im like wtf?!  
there isnt enough crime in nigeria to compare to crime in newyork city alone!

Then they actually make our poor villagers fabricate some ridiculous dances and chants sometimes dressed in ridiculous leaves. they film this and say its our puberty initiation rites and what have you.

i agree with omoge. they depict our women nude on tv without caution. you know the annual festival the virgin teenagers in south africa have topless? yeah that one. that is shown with their breasts in full display! no decorum by blurring out the essentials if u see what i mean.
you cant even take a picture in a school over here with children for fear of pedophiles using their images on the internet. but they carry their tv crews to film our topless festivals in africa?

fact is nigerian men dont propose. its wierd but somehow the couple just know they are getting married and start working towards it. its rare that he gets on bended knee and "pops the question" just like in the movies! but dont we just wish they could be more imaginative and romantic!

i cant even live with my own parents as an adult talk less of a man's parents. can he imagine living with your own parents? i think its unfair to any woman. we all know that when a son marries theres a bit of envy from his mom. its almost unbelievable to her that her baby boy now has a younger woman from no where that he now listens too. she always wants to show you that she knows him better than you by criticizing your food, the way you fold his clothes, the way you lay his bed and other trivial stuff.

my advice to.refrain from being confrontational.(not an easy thing)
never talk back to his mom. lay all your complaints to your husband instead (its not likely he'll do anything sha but at least u didnt engage his mom in a war of words)
let him give u a time by which you guys will move out and start saving towards it. and if he still wants to live with his mom and dad,i can only say sorry! its a situation in which you can never win!
