good morning, this is exactly what i was discussing with a plastic fan yesterday. the way arsenal have improved at set piece is top notch, arteta and his coaching crew really put in a lot to better our defence, just a lil touch at right back then we are good. the fact that defence used to be our problem for years untill now can never be over emphasized.

This is all whataboutism and nothing else . Diego Simeone , Conte , Klopp and other top coaches have their own ways of jumping on the touch line , barking instructions to their players telling them whether to defend , attack or simply recycle possession as the game may require .

What most of u usually do deliberately ( because it’s Arteta who is a rookie coach and hasn’t proven himself anywhere before he got Arsenal job ) is that u single him out for serious criticism when he makes take some tactical errors at critical points in the game . That Loserpool game almost everybody knows we Arsenal will not go to Anfield all guns blazing attacking Loserpool on their home ground . So how is passing instructions to his players to form a defensive a problem here ?

Agreed the defensive approach to that very game didn’t work , but we have seen the same Arteta beat city and Loserpool with this same approach catching them on counter after playing what people like to call haram football. Arteta is rookie coach who would definitely get some calls right and get others wrong .....he’s not some damn pep guardiola yet , he’s still learning the ropes. Those constant barking , getisculation( and any other words u use to refer to him constantly dishing out instructions to players during matches ) are the same he used when we were winning 5-0 , thrashing spurs and other good games we’ve seen this year . Now linking those actions of his to the good showing the boys had today just dey somehow .

But it seems everybody has made up their mind on this discussion so I will just not continue repeating the same thing over and over again jare.

This is no agenda, at least I try as much not to be agenda-driven when making my point or observation.

Watching Liverpool match, in a certain situation I saw Arteta barking and bellowing on players to go back when Liverpool wanted to attack. Even when arsenal players went back, he still gesticulated for them to even go further back which made our defence line so deep. We played like cowards which made transitioning in our attack harder. There was a player (I think lokonga, not sure sha) who made a sullen face wen Arteta made that but he just have to do the needful. Same thing happened against man city (first leg).

Now look at this game and this high position martinelli and saka kept when we are attacking and compare with Liverpool's game or Man u game. Our players felt free, they knew their work since they've practiced it all week and they executed it without the constant gesticulation and barking. This constant barking will limit them cos they'll feel remote controlled instead of actually playing their game.

Before the game myself, most.ob, dave.P and Sod(I think) postulated that we'll see more free game since Arteta isn't their and arsenal shocked us by even exceeding our expectations. Now let's wait and see if we'll see such freedom when playing Liverpool (2nd leg) with Arteta at the touchline.

Hopefully God keeps us alive by then.

This team felt absolutely Different from the time he was on the touchline no doubt.

It's absolutely unfortunate that you give no credit to Arteta who has been working on this team all these while. That starting eleven has been his for some time now. Their performance today is a product of all they have been doing together.

Sure never pull a shirt of an opponent in trying to stop his progress in the air or through on goal. Silva in this case was on his way down. The shirt pull didn't impeed his progress. If anything I think Xhaka was trolling him not to go down by holding his shirt.

Rodri didn't even get a foul called against him when he clattered dangerously into Martinelli. The VAR didn't call the ref to re-watch the Odegard penalty shout. I think the VAR official was assisting as the linesman when this happened I don't know but this game was just a mess.

English referees are totally bent. There is a reason a corrupt organization like FIFA don't want anything to do with English refs at the world cup.
How can that be a penalty When Xhaka was pulling Silva up while he was on the way down? That's basic physics! And this is happening in a season where soft penalties have been legislated against.

It's a basic rule in defending, never pull. Xhaka should know this especially when inside the box. Do anything but never pull.

Man City fouled us many times but got few cards because they know how to foul. They may push or tackle but they won't pull shirt or arm.

I don't know how an experience player like Xhaka wouldn't know this.

My opinion tho is that we should just change the criterion sha. Most people here(I'll even say 80%) don't watch the youth football so we might just vote based on hype or hearsay. Even sallah sef, na d first time I dey hear am. Patino, na the first time I see am wen we play carabao, tho I've heard his name frequently this season. Balogun, the few times I watched him play, he didn't impress me even tho I believe he's still transitioning. Azeez is even on loan too(I don't know that counts sef).

I just feel we should change it as best player coming through the academy like most people initially understood it

Instead of them to find way to resolve nketiah deal then look for better sharp CF that martinelli and nketiah can learn from but I think nketiah should go since balogun is coming into the mix

I am not in support of an extension for Laca. A striker like Balogun if harnessed properly will play that Laca false nine role and even add goals to it. We should be thinking of engaging him and Nketiah more while will get a new marquee striker by summer when Laca will be gone.
