I won’t mind a Guen/ Tor combo honestly. Nice you have finally joined the Guen fanatics. We are waiting for Kokaneprodigy and Sod09, unfortunately we've got just one form left. |

Swissh: City seem to score the same type of goals every week. A cross and a tap in at the far post. Why dont teams defend against this? City has about 3 to 4 ways they score, and every member of the attack clearly understands this. So when a team tries to block a particular way, the main architects- Silva and De Bruyne would easily change to another. It takes an extremely focused and efficient defense to stop City from scoring. |

Jencejyde: As basic as it is, it keeps your midfield to defense balance very compact and organized. Unless the personell you have are not capable, there is no opposition that would find it easy to break . Not saying any defense can't be breached but the purpose is to make it as difficult as possible by staying organized. Your stamina levels , technique and most important communication and awareness are of the essence. These are professionals so they don't have any excuse unless they are just not good enough. I cant really explain much typing cos there are some elements of movement and basic positional understanding involved but it was very difficult to get beat playing compact and disciplined within zones. Your point is clear and appreciated. |

Jencejyde: Nah not at all, it depends on the situation and not outrightly If you like score hatrick, coaches like Guardiola will bench you if you play against his instructions. Ask Henry. There is this story of Ferguson refusing to play Dwight Yorke cos he disobeyed him despite finishing top scorer the previous season. Yorke's career ended that year. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 2:03pm On Sep 20, 2019 |
Jencejyde: Lets even look at the setup from a Defensive Midfield view. So we set up a 4-2-3 1 type setup, and we have Xhaka and Torriera as the Holding midfielders. I would have expected that They split the field into zones. Xhaka covers the left zone to mid anchoring the left full back and left side centre half while torreira covers the right zone to middle anchoring the right full back and right side center half.
If an attack from the opposition were to build up on say the right side, then Xhaka should be have first responsibility to mark that zone but key in doing this is to call torreira to cover any space he has left behind or better still to be within 10 or 15 yards of him when going to defend that zone. This ultimately means that torerriaa should now be close to the middle of the pithch while xhaka is deep into the zone. The same thing applies when the attack builds up from the other side , while torriera goes into the zone then xhaka should already be in the middle not 10 to 15 yards away from torriera.
This is a drill even as uni students we did for hours without the ball and perfected not even a pros, so it bewilders me if pros being paid stupid amounts cannot be disciplined in holding positions and covering space.
Again , emery may have his own methods but what i just described above is what many top managers employ depending on their formation which i was blessed to play under.
Now i also question why use 2 holding defensive mids when playing at home? This is what i really do not like because the singular defensive mid should be able to cover the zones easily since we should be the more aggressive team and with more possession, unfortunately its like i'm still living in the past glory and seem to forget we don't have the calibre in that position to hold down his own. Fabihno , Fernadihno and Rodri do this with ease, not just because they are gifted more technically but also because that's how the coach has set them up plus they are well drilled in the understanding.
Its just damn too annoying seeing our players playing like school kids at times jare when indeed they are supposed to be highly paid professionals. Not saying to expect a perfect performance week in week out but we need a high level of consistency. Your tactics is good, but it is so basic that any opposition will easily spot it. When you jam a fast moving tipper with red sand (Liverpool) that swings the ball left, right and centre like no other creature exists, this tactics will be like wash away paint. This tactical approach was what Emery used at Anfield, with Willock and Guendouzi on either side of Xhaka covering the fullbacks. What Liverpool simply did was to move their fullbacks forward and their rampaging front three straight into our box, and it became a one man show. It almost worked though since we had Aubameyang and Pepe waiting for loosed balls, which they actually got but failed to utilize. Finally, after so much pressure, London fell. The rest are highlights. |

Dreamswayne: I honestly think we should look to sell Torreira or play him in his familiar role, which kind box to box the guy dey play?!
Emery is a clown, one win at frankfurt won't stop me from clamouring his sack after the season even if we still end up in top 4 but the performance remain abysmal...
Just like parading 11 strangers to play with each other, no structure... Confusion everywhere... I know you want Torriera to play at the base of the midfield. But he does not have the body structure to do so. It's the same problem with Kante. Unless you are on the back foot, a small guy like Kante or Torriera will be a problem against counter atacks or long balls. Especially long balls. That is why Xhaka is deployed there. So while he pushes forward, Xhaka stays as main cover. The problem is that, Xhaka himself has his limitations playing the base of our midfield because of his slow pace. What we need really is a big guy like Xhaka with the pace of Torriera. A Nemanja Matic, Fernandinho, Gilberto kind of guy. The best use of Torriera is to mark from the front. For now we don't have a DM. Xhaka plays there but even then, he is not a DM. |

Jencejyde: Emilio for me was the standout player. Now, this is not for the brilliance in saves but for TAKING RESPONSIBILITY. These are my thoughts and i may be wrong, but i do not think Emilio played to the managers instructions cos i still don't think Emery has suddenly stopped his playing out from the back philosophy. What i do think is that Emilio simply just said, "Bleep all this pass from the back, if you are wide open on the wings upfront , i will just send you the ball".
If that's the case then shame on the "we were scared idiots called senior players" How can players not understand that there are times when what you planed in training is not working out during the game and you take it upon yourselves if indeed there are leadership qualities to change the plan, how hard is that? Not saying Emilio is now the next best thing but damn he simply just ignored everything in the managers book and played to his own strengths.
Still worried about our midfield compactness cos we were just way to easy to get by in that midfield . The manager has to take responsibility for this continuous occurrence Bros what you are saying is that he should be benched next game. Not taking the coaches instruction is asking for elongated bench experience (EBE) |

kokaneprodigy: nobody said we shouldn’t give young players time. What we said was giving a young player that hasn’t done anything so special to own a position 90mins week in week out when we can try other options is at the detriment of the club. See thinking. Chai!

Roland17: My only concern is the fact that our full backs may end up playing 3 games in the space of 7 days and that may be too much for both junior clowns. I would not mind seeing Mustafi in a back 3 situation with Chambers and one of senior clown Luiz/ Holding. I expect Holding to play some minutes but I don’t know if he would play 90 and from the team news sent Ozil and senior clown Sok did not travel. For whatever it is worth, I want to see Martinelli even if it means dropping Pepe for a sub appearance. As for the middle, I think Emery will play Xhaka and we may see Ceballos somewhere around the midfield or higher up. Auba is our only remaining striker since Laca is out until October and while he has a wonderful injury record and great conditioning, playing him tonight and again on Sunday may be setting him up for an injury. We need all 3 points tonight but this is a game where a draw will not spell doom for our chances to get to the next round. #COYG!!!! LMAO! @senior clowns = centre backs junior clowns = full backs I am not sure if we have alternatives for junior clowns... You got me cracking man. |

Fkhalifa: The Frankfurt i saw against Chelsea last season were hard, pacy and energetic, Our midfield will be brushed aside, Saka is good but looks a bit frail. Why are our players so lightweight and smallish sef Chelsea's look strong and sharp... I miss the days of Gilberto, Viera,Song ,Baptists and even Diaby 1. I want Martinez to get some playing time to gather confidence. As our main back up to Leno, he needs to start giving him a fight. This is his last season with us to prove himself. 2. I am really in for Chambers and Holding to replace those experienced clowns we call CBs. So here is a chance to have a peep at their hopeful partnership. 3. Nelson and Willock have not been really given a chance to explore themselves. I am willing to give it to them. 4. Saka and Smith-Rowe come with a lot of promise. They say Rowe is like Ramsey, while Saka is a home grown winger. I also know he is very good at taking on defenders despite his age. We need to give these black dribblers chance before someone else does. Generally, I have little hopes for the Frankfurt game and wouldn't mind using it to try out new players having been fed up with the current crop. |
