blank:This was the moment I had dreaded the most since the news broke...breaking the news to Tise. Pius adored his daughter, and made a conscious effort to mention her in his posts as often as possible; to his readers, it almost felt like we've all met her. |
Jorussia:I agree with you. They certainly need to form a broader government that accommodates everyone, if they truly want to become a national party. |
Jorussia:True! I feel the same way too. Though I'm not from the SE, I believe Nkiru Onyejiocha will make a good speaker or Deputy. I have followed her keenly over the years. |
LadySarah:Onitsha river port has been completed, but it seems the concessioning process has been mired in litigations. Different companies are laying claim to the concession rights to run the port. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/08/conclusion-of-n4-5bn-onitsha-river-port-concession-mired-in-controversy/ |
AnambraforPeter:She's quite a vibrant representative, I think she should be made a principal officer; speaker or deputy, whichever is zoned to the SE. |
This a very interesting read! |
I think, in all of this, FIFA is to blame. The Sports Ministry have been trying to get the NFF to account for the huge World Cup bonuses it collected, but NFF has been running to FIFA, who is now threatening to ban the country for interference. https://punchng.com/efcc-summons-10-nff-officials-over-funds-diversion/ |
...and in all of these analysis, no one here has taken note of the large pool of disenchanted voters that will neither be voting for PDP nor APC, but for some of the smaller parties. |
ITbomb:Thank God, we still have a handful of objective Nairalanders. As an African, I'm very happy that Rwanda has recovered from its difficult years, but is very important that the country grows sustainably beyond Kigali...and most importantly beyond Kegame. Presently, without these two, it doesn't look good for Rwanda. |
Guys, while it is understandable that Nigerians are concerned about the credibility of the elections, we must also be careful not to give mileage to some of these unverified reports. Every Nigerian needs to understand the election process; from accreditation to voting through collation and announcement of final result. INEC has promised that unlike the 2015 elections, there will be no use of incidence forms and that only card readers will be used. What this means is that anyone thumb printing ballot papers anywhere is wasting his/her time. Who will count it? That's why it is important that people remain at the polling units until the votes are counted and the result sheet pasted on the notice board therein; that way nobody is able to change the results afterwards. For those who wish to better understand how this process work, please refer to this twitter thread by Dr. Chima Amadi https://mobile.twitter.com/AMADICHIMA/status/1033840401956913152 |
lexy2014:A very hopeless report to say the least. Nigerian journalists need to learn how to report. The piece did not state the location, it merely alluded to a very ambiguous community in Taraba. |
I don't understand the fixation on the panties. There are two ladies in one of the photos, isn't it possible the panties belong to them? Where did Nigerians even get this pant-stealing craze from? |
Oh! So sad. One of the most talented musicians to come out of Africa. The death of his son Sam, was truly a huge blow to him; he would have carried on from here. |
...and how many Prophets will die? |
While I'm not holding brief for the VP (I have no reason to); it is possible that the letter truly hasn't gotten to the President. The acknowledgement stamp shows that of the office of SSA on National Assembly Matters. Considering how dysfunctional our bureaucies are, it is possible that the SSA's office has not transmitted same to the President, especially since its not a contract awarding memo or anything that offers direct personal benefit to those responsible for transmitting same. It is sad all the same. |
I think Nigerians need to be fair to another. While, we continue to hold the government accountable, as citizens we also need to be our brother's keeper. Why should anybody apply for a Job he knows he won't show up at? ...knowing fully well there are thousands of jobless people who could have taken up his place. #30,000 isn't a lot of money, but there are thousands of people who could do with this while they sort themselves out or search for more permanent jobs. |
Ibrahimanis:I was going to say the same thing. I have had the privilege of travelling and living across climes and as well as meeting quite a number of foreigners over the last 13 years, yet no enlightened person amongst of them have made the kind of sweeping remarks the OP alluded to, on Quora. I personally think it is only ignorant people that will make those type of sweeping remarks. Most well-travelled people, understand that there are bad elements in every society and it is wrong to project the character of a few on the entire country. Take the case of a 67 year old White man, Micheal Neu arrested in Louisiana for sending out scam mails, posing as a Nigerian. Although he isn't Nigerian, his activities would have been attributed to Nigerians until he was arrested. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2017/12/30/nigerian-prince-email-scammer-louisiana/992073001/ Most importantly, as Nigerians, we all have an obligation to one another to conduct ourselves properly, wherever we travel to, so that we don't mess things up for the next person coming in. |
festacman:The boy is just naive; a little research about social media engagement in Nigeria could have saved him all these hassles. He probably didn't expect this kind of vibrancy from Nigerian Twitter. He even shared it on his LinkedIn page as well. If I were in his shoes, I would have kept quiet until after delivering the project. I'm sure he has learnt a sagacious business lesson - the hard way. I see a lot of business people speaking carelessly on Twitter because, it is election season, forgetting that they still have to do business after the elections. As a businessman, if there are no conflict of interest, it is still possible to do business with both parties if space permits. |
BrutusOj:The primaries for both parties was a sham in Zone C. At present some constituencies don't know whose name was submitted at INEC as flag bearer, and even those where names were submitted, there are still litigations challenging them. With regards to the Presidency, it is likely the Idomas are largely sticking with the incumbent, because Atiku has no active man on ground there. Also, a few roads under construction like the Otukpo - Enugu road, the Otukpo township to Oweto road. I also heard a few other rural roads under the Ministry of Agriculture are on-going. P.S. this is just my observation I pieced together from Benue people. |
BrutusOj:The Idomas presently do not seem to have a political leader and that has not helped their political cause. At the moment, every person is his own man. |
BrutusOj:I'm sorry sir, I saw billboards at Agan tollgate and a large one at Wurukum roundabout. |
People should learn to comment only on matters they know about. The same David Mark, that for eight years ignored his people by refusing to influence the repairs of the road to Otukpo (and they were rumours he was the person awarded the contract). He flew into Otukpo with a helicopter each time he came visiting. Most Benue people will not vote along party lines, they will vote for individuals. You cannot refuse to pay salaries and expect the people to vote for you, it doesn't matter the party you represent. At the moment, the candidates of some of the 'mushroom' parties are better positioned to win a good number of seats in my immediate constituency. |

NNEWIsuper:OP the Belgian Consulate has an infamous reputation for keeping passports for 2-3 months; so most people end up withdrawing their passport. Everyone avoids using them to apply for Schengen visas. The same thing also happens when you apply for a Dutch Visa. |
It's a good thing he only paid for a subscription service. Your bank should be able to reach the Canadian merchant, using the transaction ID; notifying them it was a fraudulent transaction. I'm sure they will not only cancel his service subscription, but should also be able to provide his registered account details. |
ClearFlair:Atiku should be wary of people like Ben Bruce; they are not good for his image. Imagine what an Alan Greenspan's Federal Reserve Board would have done to chronic debtors like Ben Bruce. |
...UNA DON START AGAIN!!! |
What is wrong with us? I hear people say the roads are being built because of election; so because an election is coming Nigerians shouldn't have roads? There's no law that says people must vote for a particular person because he has built a road. The money for the road belongs to Nigerians and the government isn't doing anyone a favour by building the roads, it is their right! Besides, nobody builds roads in the rainy season, so it is likely this is being done now that the rains has stopped. |
Squillionaire:Of course, you asked a very legitimate question and I'm not holding brief for him (they are people paid to do that); I was only interpreting how that particular scenario played out. |
Ihateyoumod:While this is not defending him, in fairness to the man, he was addressing the Nigerian community in Poland, and someone in the audience asked the question. If you watch the video, you could see, he had to be reminded of the question before he answered. Overall, this is one debacle most sane Nigerians across all political divides are truly embarrassed about. How do we postulate a theory like that? Of what value is our education if we reason like that? If someone said a thing like that about me, I personally won't dignify them with a response. |
In simple English, what this means is that, instead of popping Champagne or buying Remmy Martins Cognac, boys have humbled themselves and have started drinking African Special. Hence, suppliers now import fewer bottles of those. |
This is so sad! Have people suddenly become so depraved, or is it our society that is just waking up to notice an age-old malaise? |
