SAAF Air Capability Demo - 09/09/15

jln115:A few have been killed, but not many. I know in the late 90's or early 2000 an operator was travelling with a cash van as security (when cash heists spiked during those times, the police sometimes escorted them). They apparently emptied a full magazine into him, before going after the cash. |
Let me add the part of the article which was left out....for whatever reason . So basic logic shows if the SAAF is busy training pilots from Oman, they could also easily train their own pilots. 4 SAAF pilot trainees going to Cuba, when 9 foreign pilots being trained here. Simple military co-operation seen in plenty other airforces around the world. Oh and 4 pilot trainees isnt even 10% of the initial batch of student pilots who join the SAAF every year. "While South Africa is sending trainee pilots and others to Cuba, the SAAF's Central Flying School at AFB Langebaanweg is currently home to a group of nine pupil pilots and an instructor from the Royal Air Force of Oman. The group arrived at the West Coast base in September a year ago to start a 16 month pilot's course. The Omani air force operates 12 Pilatus PC-9M turboprop training aircraft, the last of which was delivered in March 2000. Corrosion and other problems have seen all the aircraft go back to the Pilatus factory in Switzerland for major overhaul and refurbishment work. With its training aircraft out of action for at least a year, a decision was taken to outsource training and the SAAF bid was successful." |
Lmao x 2 . When hopes are dashed ![]() |
↑↑↑ Lmao!! Someone should have done some research before POSTING IN BOLD and embarrassing themselves. Fingers were so eager to rush here posting anything negative he could find....massive failure. |
iblawi:Huh? |
SA Navy Submarine Control Simulator, and on the deck of one of the frigates. You can see how the Umkhonto Surface to Air tubes can be increased or decreased from 0 - 32 missiles. 1st two pics by Dean Wingrin. Missiles are stored under a pressurized inert gas. Hence the need for the raised hatch when one is loaded.

Lol Erika Gibson. Last time her breaking news story was how SA troops armed themselves and feared for their lives, and were "held hostage" by Sudan troops. Both SANDF & United Nations denied her nonsense. She couldnt provide any further proof after that, no names, no ranks, no nothing. Let the SAAF itself talk about pilot numbers, not her or her so called sources. |
Considering the JF-17 vs Gripen debate. Woudn't it be odd seeing Pakistani JF-17's carrying A-Darter? Just thinking out loud.....

I dont understand the fascination with Koeberg. 2 units producing 900MW each. Units run fine, and are shutdown and refueled on schedule....year in, year out. A newer nuclear power station will produce "better" power? Your TV will have a better, sharper image as compared to power produced by Koeberg? Ok then. Nigeria & SA are both developing new power generation capabilities. I dont know/care about Nigeria, but within the next few years SA is adding an insane amount of power to the grid. If Nigeria is able to produce more power than SA in the next 7 years good for them, but that would mean Nigeria will have to be the biggest contruction site on Earth from now till then. Medupi - adding 4800MW Kusile - adding 4800MW Ingula - adding 1300MW Various renewable energy programs adding over 800MW. If Nigeria can add this capacity and more over 5-7 years, fantastic. If not...can people not get off topic |
I wonder what some people on here are lacking in the real world. Perhaps their lives out there lack any relevance, and the only place they can get the attention they crave is on the net. If you think about it, It's actually quite sad that someone would crave attention from complete anonymous strangers by being a troll. How sad is that person's life? Anyways...whatever |
A 3RD, UNIDENTIFIED CUSTOMER/COUNTRY HAS ORDERED THE A-DARTER MISSILE -South Africa -Brazil -You'll just have to wait and see ![]() Hard work pays off.

patches689:One would assume the most physically fit thing a sailor needs to do is swim and tread water. I then dont understand how anyone has the guts to call her unfit, when most Nigerian naval officers were found to be unable to swim . If they left out the most basic requirement to being a sailor during training, what else did they leave out? I still find this shocking.....http://www./forum/general/news/6732-most-nigerian-navy-personnel-cant "In a bid to improve operation at sea and waterways, the Nigerian navy said yesterday that it has begun compulsory training in swimming for its officers and ratings across the country. The navy expressed surprise that majority of its personnel, including senior and junior cadre do not know how to swim. The Flag Officer Commanding, Naval Training Command, Rear Adm. Goddy Anyankpele made this known during its ongoing “First Annual Intra Command Swimming Competition, FAICSC”, in Onne, Rivers State. He said the move at instituting mandatory swimming for its service members was germane to reduce potential accidents and personnel casualties during operations. Anyankpele said the navy would sustain the training program until all service members and trainees’ were adequately trained." |
Seeker 400 is bigger than most people think. Doesnt fit out the old hanger doors at Irene campus. New jig had to be designed to move it around.

Lezzlie:You sound hurt...... The SA Navy’s SAS Umhloti now has a new commander. Lieutenant-Commander Zimasa Mabela on Wednesday took command of the mine counter measures vessel based in Simon’s Town. Mabela, originally from the Eastern Cape, joined the navy in 1999 as a telecommunications radio official because she was “fascinated” by the force. In 2004 she completed the Military Training for Officers course in Gordon’s Bay and then the Combat Officer qualifying course at the navy’s maritime warfare training centre. She joined the frigate SAS Isandlwana in 2005 and was appointed as the Assistant Operations Officer, where she obtained the Officer of the Day qualification. In 2006, Mabela obtained her Bridge Watchkeeping Certificate and was later appointed as the Assistant Weapons Officer. Commander Brian Short, former commander of the vessel, handed over command to Mabela at a ceremony at the Simon’s Town Naval Base. “I remember how excited I was when I first got accepted to be a part of the navy. I am proud to be the first black African woman to command a naval vessel. But, more than the title, I want to be an example to my crew. |
http://itweb.co.za/mobilesite/defenceweb/home/item_id-40555/ Rising profits for Denel ammunition companies "Denel Group's ammunition manufacturing divisions Pretoria Metal Pressings and Rheinmetall Denel Munition both saw big increases in profitability in the last financial year, with 443% and 62% increases respectively.PMP's earnings were up substantially between the 2014 and 2015 financial years, with revenue rising from R515 million to R828 million, with the majority (74%) coming from the local market. ... Some of the highlights mentioned by Denel in its annual report for PMP included delivery of the new 30x173 mm cannon round for the South African Army's Badger infantry fighting vehicle, which mounts the 30 mm CamGun on the Section and Fire Support variants. After completing the industrialisation of the 30x173mm PRAC-T rounds in 2014, the industrialisation of the APCI-T and SAPHEI-T rounds were completed in March 2015 with 15 000 APCI-T and 88 000 PRAC-T rounds being delivered to the South African National Defence Force." Coming along nicely . 10/10 for South African defence industry.

They say the initial Seeker 400's may go to Defence Intelligence first, not SAAF.

Sometimes their size is taken for granted. Obviously not anywhere near the biggest, but not tiny. https://www.navy.mil.za/archive/1508/150827_ex_red_lion/pic13.jpg |
iblawi:http://sofrep.com/40623/eeben-barlow-speaks-pt-2-development-nigerian-strike-force/ Read and educate yourself. If you know who/what sofrep is, you would appreciate the legitimacy of what is contained there. Enjoy the reading. Hope you learn something new today. I will not even get into the "we needed new equipment" story. It is a waste of time and data. This thread has been going on for years. Nigerians have been claiming how they would combat the SANDF, listing all equipment and posting pics. Why was there a need to huridly go buy equipment to combat Boko Haram? New tanks, new MRLS's etc etc. Why not use the equipment you've been showing us on this thread? If SA and Nigeria had hypothetically gone to war last year, you would have asked us to wait a few months while you logged onto Amazon.com to buy new tanks? Waste....of....time. |
iblawi:You clearly haven't read the link and how detailed it is. Rather go search the net 1st and educate yourself a bit, before calling things nonsense. |
iblawi:Must I post the link where Barlow states step by step how 72 Strike Force was created and trained? Or you willing to find it yourself on the net? Nigerian tactics would have been the same regarldless of MRAP purchased. Do you really think you need a crew of men to come over and teach you how to drive an MRAP? Its not a specialist weapon at all. |
iblawi:The entire Nigerian 72 Strike Force is a creation of Eben Barlow. He said so with his own words. Opening the unit, recruiting men from existing units, and training on search and destroy tactics. A private man, with a private company creating a unit within the Nigerian Army. Nigeria did not have the capability, know-how or motivation to create such a unit. It had nothing to do with teaching your men how to drive our Reva MRAP's. What is so difficult in starting, and driving a vehicle that carries no specialist weapons? It was all about the creation of 72 Strike Force. |

Nice video on Eyewitness News video section of how the SANDF uses the SAAB Gamer System for force-on-force training. Additional tool for moderm combat training. Each jacket with laser sensitive receivers is linked to a laser emitting firearm of the soldier wearing that jacket. System lets you know where on the body you've been shot by an enemy. If you receive a kill shot, your firearm stops working. Learn what you did wrong, make sure you dont do it again.

http://defsec.csir.co.za/?page_id=1993 "The CSIRs Command, Control and Information Warfare group focuses on concept development, experimentation and simulation to put in place integrated defence and security capabilities. Examples include solutions for interoperability, situation awareness for better border safeguarding or cyber defence matters. Clients such as the SA National Defence Force, Armscor, other government departments and industry rely on the CSIR for technology development, application and support from the perspective of an independent science, engineering and technology powerbase. In cyber defence, the focus is on technologies, processes and practices designed to protect networks, computers, programs and data from attack, damage and/or unauthorised access. It includes creating awareness for cyber safety and social engineering defence." https://defsec.csir.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Slider_cciw_03.jpg?1440359218787 https://defsec.csir.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Slider_cciw_01.jpg https://defsec.csir.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Slider_cciw.jpg |
agaugust:If I ever type one more letter to you after this, may God strike me dead. I said "If you are going to steal missile technology, steal it before you develop your own so that you have a base to start from". It is only in your own head where you heard me saying how hard it is to steal missile technology. There is no practical point in stealing missile technology, and adding it you your own systems which have completely different operating codes and algorithms. I have already asked you how China has been able to steal American military technology (google it), you ran away. |
agaugust:Keep embarrassing and exposing yourself. I couldn't give one single flying f*ck. You are a military researcher as you claim. You would know how missile algorithms work. You would know that dimensions, centres of gravity, aerodynamic models, seeker capabilities etc are all linked in a complicated loop of algorithms. You cannot just take a flash drive, and transfer data from one missile to complete another. If you are going to steal missile technology, steal it before you develop your own so that you have a base to start from. You would know that. The others on this thread can entertain you if they want. I'm personally done with your non.sense. Have better things to waste my time on. Chow |
agaugust:Again. Just stop turning this thread into a joke. You are killing it. Can you explain this? https://www.defenceweb.co.za/images/stories/AIR/A-Darter%20P3A%201st%20Test%20Manouevre2.jpg http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1152&catid=7:Industry&Itemid=116 "The flight tests were a successful first in the series to prove the specifications and simulation models, which bodes well for the missile`s eventual integration on the South African Air Force`s Gripen fighter jets, the Brazilian Air Force`s F5M aircraft, as well as the latter`s possible FX programme for a future frontline fighter," said Denel Dynamics CEO Jan Wessels. The tests evaluated the missile`s manoeuvrability and high G-force characteristics as well as the ability of the high off-boresight seeker (+/-90 degrees off-boresight) head to track targets. Designed as an agile missile (hence the designation "A" in the name), the A-Darter`s key technologies had been established by 2006. Full-scale development has been on going since 2007. Article written - February 2009 SAAF orders Iris-T missile - May 2008 SAAF receives first Iris-T - Late 2009 So Iris-T was reverse engineered how exactly? Stop being a dam clown and grow up. |
