SANDF ARMED FORCES DAY 2016 - PORT ELIZABETH

Quote from Roger, the owner of these pics. http://www.avcom.co.za/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=169948&start=30

"Some of us accepted the general invite to the airforce station function yesterday afternoon/evening. Got to chat to many of the crew, and were allowed a close (but not too close) look around. Only had my cell phone with me, but there were one of two guys like Bugs and Vernon who had better cameras and am sure will share their pics too.

Most interesting bit was dispelling the myth that the Gripen and Hawk guys only fly a few hours a year. Think one article somewhere suggested as low as 30 hour per annum. Well the crew we spoke to indicated that they fly almost one sortie per day, and probably do around 15-20 hours in an average month.

Must compliment the guys for the most professional way they handled us civies and were happy to answer our questions for the 3 or 4 hours we were there."

"Oh and because we're idi0ts, we wont actually train our naval pilots to use the weapon in its operational envelopes. We wont do any test firing of our own to get our pilots current on the weapon, hence we'll never realise you lied to us. Lol we're so dum.b grin"

"No its fine South Africa, we believe you....no need to do due diligence on our part. No need to verify your product claims, even though there are competitors for the same contract. Can we come pick the missiles up next week Thursday? Thanks"

cheesy cheesy cheesy

Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by ssaengine: 8:05pm On Feb 17, 2016
Again...no replies grin.

No one in the international delegations put up their hand before the test and asked why it's being done at 8km? Why not demand 10km? Because they aren't f00ls, they know what a test series entails.

Algeria never demanded a test at 10km? Lmao!

Zero replies here.

So just so i can understand....when a country is looking to purchase a new missile like Mokopa, they do it like they are buying a loaf of bread? Read what is written about it (nutrients, calories etc etc) then buy it? If things like missiles are quick and easy to buy, why do defence deals take so long? Why do you hear of a rumour that X wants buy from Y, then only many months later a deal is made public?

Very simple answer....country Y will verify every single piece of advertised data. People think Algeria came for a 2 day shopping spree and just filled Mokopa in a shopping basket and left? They bought 100 missiles from Denel, they did so because each technical aspect of the missile was proven to them over many months.....i know that, personally. Long before articles are printed on Defenceweb internal memos are circulated throughout Denel stating the progress of tests to potential customers. Hence why i said a few weeks ago to look out for Denel's biggest deal ever, you wont find it on Defenceweb or Janes yet.

Missiles are tested in various flight regimes. A-Darter went through the same process. It was never always fired at max range and max g's. Mokopa has a range of 10km, end of story.

Can imagine NAF and Denel whatsapp convo...

Denel: Hey you wana come to a demo friday?
NAF: I'm busy dude
Denel: Please bro...it will be fun
NAF: I'm really not interested
Denel: Come on...just show face for a couple of hours
NAF: This is the 1st and last time. Share your location.
Denel: I owe you one, thanks smiley

Who says they were invited?

Nigeria heard there was a demo and came running!!!
Lmao
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by ssaengine: 8:40pm On Feb 16, 2016
Shame....those that think i even want Nigeria to own Rooivalk are sadly mistaken. I prefer Nigeria not to even own it. Point is these experts on here that have been stating how crap our half French, obsolete piece of cra.p is have been out-voted and over-ruled by the Nigerian Air Force itself. The NAF leadership sent its delegation to SA because they know what the clueless here dont. Whether they buy it or not, i couldnt care less....you have simply been embarrassed by the NAF who will only show interest to platforms they believe are viable...not half French pieces of sh.it.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by ssaengine: 8:25pm On Feb 16, 2016
So now it turns out that indeed Nigeria has shown interest, and was not just there on an invite as previously stated (i.e completely made up). Bad day for those who type before they think.

Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by ssaengine:
http://itweb.co.za/mobilesite/defenceweb/home/item_id-42356/

"Mike Kgobe, CEO of Denel Aviation, told defenceWeb that the demonstration was based on renewed interest expressed in the helicopter, especially following its performance with the United Nations in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He said February's demonstration was aimed at talking to the broader community about the Rooivalk, with interested countries present at the demonstration, including delegations from Poland and Nigeria. Poland is currently seeking new attack helicopters under its Kruk programme while Nigeria has an urgent operational requirement for attack helicopters to combat Boko Haram militants.

Egypt is also believed to be potentially interested, especially after the United States delayed the delivery of AH-64 Apache helicopters following the military's removal of Mohammed Morsi from power. Although Egypt recently ordered 46 Ka-52K helicopters from Russia, these are earmarked for its Mistral class vessels and the country still requires land-based attack helicopters."

So what have we learnt kids? That those who came did so because they expressed interest in Rooivalk.

Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by ssaengine: 2:59pm On Feb 16, 2016
iblawi:
Denel upgraded the helicopter too and renamed it. It was redesigned and upgraded by Denel.
You call this an "upgrade"? From Oryx to Rooivalk? Go back to sleep please.

Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by ssaengine: 12:39pm On Feb 16, 2016
Lmao! Yeah....it makes sense to buy something crappy and obsolete, then put in your own money to upgrade it. Rather than just buy a brand spanking new one from somewhere else (which the experts on here claim are much better anyways)....yeah makes perfect sense.

If anyone believes that any new customer would put in equal or more work (than Denel) into an upgrade of a Denel product such as Rooivalk, they are delusional.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by ssaengine: 12:21pm On Feb 16, 2016
Lmao...it turns out Nigeria was part of the international delegation that came to view our "crappy, obsolete" Rooivalk during the demonstration a few weeks ago. I wonder why the Nigerian Air Force would waste their time viewing that machine's capabilities if the experts on here have already stated it's a piece of crap grin grin

For those who dont follow the pic thread....Frumentius's pics of Rooivalk from a bit of a while back. Denel hinting at A Darter missile/Rooivalk combo. Incase one gets shot down (one has been hit by small arms in DRC) pilot and WSO are decently armed.

No peace keepers to Burundi, does this mean that because Nigeria is busy at home no any African nation can send its troops ?
Burundi has said it does not want peacekeepers, and will view them as an invasion force. Unless you want AU and UN to invade by force at this time.

http://m.engineeringnews.co.za/article/rooivalk-attack-helicopter-upgrade-talks-at-advanced-level-2016-02-03

DENEL AVIATION in advanced talks with DOD and SAAF for upgraded Rooivalk. Rooivalk/Mokopa combination also being demonstrated to foreign customers.

"The Rooivalk is one of two leading Denel group systems being demonstrated over three days this week to foreign and local observers, including representatives of armed forces, defence companies, media and defence analysts. The demonstrations are taking place at the Denel Overberg Test Range in the Southern Cape. The other system being demonstrated is the Denel Dynamics Mokopa missile."
