Sports › Re: Fifa Launch Argentina Vs Nigeria Match-fixing Probe by stagger: 1:12pm On Jun 06, 2011 |
I know a little bit of sports betting and I have written several articles to that effect for some foreign newspapers.
Betting on a football match is not just based on win, lose or draw. You can bet on whether a team will score, how many goals will be scored in a match, or if 5 goals are scored, what will the goal distribution be like (3-2, 4-1, 5-0), etc.
You can also bet if a goal will be scored in the last five minutes of a game. Sports betting is big business, and many syndicates make money off it.
Referees sometimes participate in sports betting, and even though this is frowned on, what stops a referee recruiting a relative to open a betting account on his behalf, for him to start the "wangling" of results on the pitch?
Match fixing is not limited to one team being paid to lose.
Sometimes, a bet can be placed on if a star player will lose a penalty if he takes one in a game or in penalty shootout. If that player is in on the betting fraud, he can decide to play the penalty according to how he bet on it.
Unfortunately, this is the consequence of so much money being splashed around in football. Betting companies have designed so many betting techniques and products that control is now very difficult.
A typical football betting site I know has betting for almost any league in the world, including the Nigerian Premier League! IS THAT NOT INCREDIBLE?
Is anyone in the NFF looking in that direction? |

musKeeto: Was Abraham going around healing people? Wasn't Abraham a businessman?
What happened to modesty and moderation? Aren't they Christian principles?
No one's saying Christians should not be rich.
But when the young ones look at our politicians, drug dealers and clergy competing with each other, how does one explain this to them?
Anyway, please defend Oyedepo the Businessman. Bishop Oyedepo, on the other hand, Not everyone is called to the healing ministry. Even St. Paul said it. Some are called to be teachers, some preachers, some evangelists. You just identify what you are and fit in. The most important thing is to live a Christ-like life. Part of it is that Christ said: "judge not that ye be not judged". I like the post of someone who said that God will judge all things in the last day. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Mother Theresa Or David Oyedepo: Who Inspires You? by stagger: 12:03pm On Jun 06, 2011 |
Any Christian can choose to identify with either Abraham, the richest in his time who had an army of 318 servants born in his house (which means their parents were under his employment)
OR
identify with Lazarus who was described as being poor and begged from the rich man's gate continually.
Both went to heaven (as seen from that story Jesus told).
But one had more impact on people's lives. The other constituted a nuisance to himself and his family.
There are too many hypocrites here who believe Christians and men of God should be poor, walking around and begging for offerings. Thank God people like Bishop Oyedepo have radically turned it all around to prove that there is nothing bad in being rich as a Christian. You can touch more lives and help more people.
I have personally paid the house rent of many of my staff repeatedly and many of these ones will kill for me if they had to. Imagine if I had been unable to do so when they approached me for help. Will they love or hate me?
They would hate me and start stealing from my business.
If i had stuck to the "poor as church rat" Christianity of the days of my parents, I wonder how my life would have been today.
I identify with the "riches in Christ" philosophy. Jesus taught it, Paul taught it, many prophets in the bible taught it. I have seen a lot of human suffering and while I identify with Mother Theresa and her great work on planet earth, I see her views on poverty as very extreme. I would have loved to see her donate money to procure HIV drugs to the millions of orphans who needed it, or put money into HIV research and not just visit them in hospital.
Even the bible said it. if your brother has a need and you can fill that need, prayers alone will not cut it. Do something physical to solve that need. Without money, it cannot be done.
Many people here do not know what is done by the many churches today in the area of poverty alleviation and charity work. All they do is criticize. |

God gave you a brain.
Use it to reason and stop defending mere mortals who falsely use the gospel for material gain. Let me ask you a question: How many books has Bishop Oyedepo sold since he started ministry 35 years ago? If you do not have the answer to that question, then you have no right to accuse anyone for using the gospel for anything. Both of us will be here and the man will buy another private jet. Erastus Akingbola and his fellow bank chiefs that were using depositors money to buy private jet, landed property, etc: WHERE ARE THEY NOW? IT IS NOT POSSIBLE FOR A MAN OF GOD TO STEAL FROM HIS CONGREGATION FOR AS LONG AS 35 YEARS WITHOUT IT COMING INTO THE OPEN THAT THE MAN IS A FRAUD! Go and do your research into how Bishop Oyedepo makes his money. I say it again: church offering can never pay for even a plane engine. The man has more business acumen than goats like rhymzy. I don't criticize such people. I read their books, study their lives and find out how they made it. If I see someone riding a private jet, I will sit down and creatively think of how to do it, not criticize blindly! Only people who have poverty of learning criticize what they don't know and what they can't comprehend. |

ITS EITHER YOU'RE PITIED OR YOU'RE ENVIED IN LIFE. MOST OF YOU PITY POOR PASTORS BUT WHY ENVY PASTORS THAT HAVE GONE THROUGH THE PROCESS & HAVE EMERGED AS A UNIQUE PRODUCT.
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DONT UNDERSTAND THE POWER OF GIVING. its not compulsory but its the only way to command divine blessings. HOW MANY OF YOU HATERS PAY TITHES NOT TO TALK OF OFFERING. THATS THE REASON WHY YOU WILL NEVER GO BEYOND YOUR SALARY AND CONTINUE GOING AROUND A VISCIOUS CIRCLE OF POVERTY.
THERE ARE FIVE WAYS YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR FINANCIAL STATUS THIS YEAR. 1. CREATE MULTIPLE STREAMS OF INCOME, 2. ACQUIRE FINANCIAL INTELLIGENCE THROUGH TRAINING, 3. CHANGE YOUR POVERTY MIND SET, 4. DEDICATE YOURSELF TO GIVING AND 5. NETWORK WITH THE RICH
ANY PASTOR THAT STEALS CHURCH MONEY WILL DIRECTLY COME UNDER A CURSE. BISHOP OYEDEPO IS ONE OF THE ICONS I HAVE MET WITH VERY STRICT FINANCIAL DISCIPLINE who is dedecated to a specific VISION and DIVINE MANDATE. for your information, more universities will be established after COVENANT & LAND-MARK.
now lets do some maths. A N1000 book x over 7million copies = over N7billion sold worldwide in 2006 alone. david oyedepo is not the only pastor that publishes books in winners chapel or in NIGERIA but he is one of the best marketers. they use both off-line and on-line(internet) marketing strategies. his books sells on amazon, facebook, yahoo & ebay.
MY PASTOR. SAM ADEYEMI of DAYSTAR BECAME A MILLIONAIRE FROM A SINGLE BOOK called PARABLE OF DOLLARS. now thats doing business with INTEGRITY while promoting PERSONAL TRANFORMATION. Please tell them. 1 book, sold at N2,000 to 10 million people worldwide. How much is that? N20billion. Enough to purchase a Gulfstream V. And some ignorant fools here will be talking of church offering. NO CHURCH OFFERING CAN PAY FOR JET. GIVE BISHOP OYEDEPO KUDOS FOR DEVELOPING SOUND BUSINESS IDEAS THAT HAVE MADE HIM A BILLIONAIRE. This is a guy who has been in ministry for 30 years plus. 30 years is not 30 days. |

musKeeto: Wonderful. You forgot to include the monopoly he runs in canaanland. The water, food and other resources church members pay for while there. For example, in CU, students have to pay for goods and services from businesses which are indirectly under him. When students are not allowed phones, they pAy to make phone calls at different call centers within the school. Since one has no choice, you have to pay whatever price has been set. I remember that CU is a place where 200 naira would get you medium sized spoons of rice, one egg, tiny beef and two pure water. Is Oyedepo a successful businessman? Judging his recent aacquisitions, yes He is Is he a successful clergyman? Judging by those whom have been linked to his ministry (Jimoh Ibrahim, Ibru) that's for the wise to discern. I am happy you mentioned this. Covenant University is a business concern. That university pays the highest salaries for any university in Nigeria. If you tell me students have to pay for calls, etc, then that would explain ONE SOURCE of income for the bishop. If you tell me about the sales figures for his numerous books which are read widely in the Christian world, then that would explain ANOTHER SOURCE of income. If you tell me about the fees paid by students in Covenant University, that would be ANOTHER SOURCE OF INCOME. Whether we like it or not, the Bishop has great business sense. He writes books and sells them, and has various business ventures that pay for all the glitteratti you see. Maybe people do not know it, but Presidents give him gifts. A president of a country will not give a N500,000 gift. That is chicken change. If a president gives you a gift, you should know how much that is. What I will not subscribe to is people saying that OFFERINGS are what paid for the planes, because we all know that is a load of crap. Offerings cannot pay for even an engine of a jet. |

Also subtract the millions that is given to indigent ministries for ministry work. Also subtract what is given to orphans and widows monthly by the ministry. Then also deduct all that is given by Winners to various charity causes, the free feeding programmes, etc. THEN YOU WORK OUT THE MATHS HERE FOR US ALL TO SEE, HOW MUCH OFFERING MONEY CAN BUY A JET. Chelsea is too proud to study Man Utd's example.
It took Sir Alex 6 years of buying, selling, buying, selling to get the right mix of players to deliver the first trophy of his coaching career there in 1992, with a 2-1 win over, yes, Barcelona in the European Cup Winners Cup final.
You don't buy a coach and expect him to work miracles in 2 years on a team that has many players above 32 years (a team in transition).
This is what happens when people with some money but who do not know anything about the game think they can win everything by throwing money at it. |

apache77: Look, this girl who said you followed your friend to INEC office, I dont think you know anything about Abuja though you have stayed here for donkey years.First, your secretary friend herself is just a high clas hooker masquerading as a corporate worker- perhaps she's a sex worker? There are basically two types of girls in Abuja- the good girls and the whores. The good girls are so few, they are hardly even seen. They mostly stay indors or at their desks in their offices. They hardly hang out at night and only attend private soirees or house parties. They constitute only about 20% of the Abuja population of girls. The second type of girls in Abuja are the LovePeddler, who constitute 80% of the total Abuja girl population. Now there are two categories of whores in Abuja- the roadside whores(who you find in clubs such as Kyrstal, Xtacy, Aqua, Ibiza, terminal 5, Soho, Bassment etc) and the home office whores(which your friend belongs to).
The road side whores tell you straight up their money is 30k, or 40 or 60K depending on her belief in her charms and where she is strutting her trade. They are the same ones you now find in clubs (since Bala Mohammed clamped down on there). They ask you to buy you drinks for them, and they are ready to follow you home for your agreed fee. Your friend who is a home-office LovePeddler operates differently, albeit with the same intent. She cons the men via seduction to buy her cars, blackberries and pay her rent. Basically, she is a kept woman who engages in runs. Back in the day, we used to call such girls aristos in school.
The road side LovePeddler demands 50k, which she uses to buy blackberry. Your friend will basically be kept by a man, so as long as hse wants a blackbeery, she gets it, she wants a car, she gets it so long as the man can afford. She is still into prostitution but hers is not common knowledge like the street LovePeddler. She solicits in private using the cover of her job. Better watch it, you say u r the bookish type, so what are you doing with such a loose canoon. And you came here to preach, admitting that you coledted 20k for cab. IS cab in Abuja 20K? If you were so different and really needed cab money, why didn’t you collect N500 and return the rest? I feel you also have LovePeddler tendencies, forget this façade you have come to put up here.
You say you have been in Abuja since godot, but it seems you don’t know nothing about the social lifestyle. Well, you said you are the bookish type, so you can be forgiven. Do you go out at night at all?? You think buying Cristal for N150k at Aqua is beans? Or Ace of Spades for N120k at Cubana is for poor guys? You say rich guys don’t spend on champagne?? You must be a real housegirl to say that. You think a guy passing off can afford dat? You said ‘the real abj guys with money dnt even have time for wat d poster here is narrating. And even if they do, they almost always have a steady girlfriend they cater for. ’ So who does not have a steady girlfriend? Yousaid those that go to the club to spend money n pick girls in abuja are d ones just managing. Somebody who is managing can go to the club, pay to go in, buy canned drinks for N500, red wine for N3k, Red label for N8k, Jack Daniels for N10k, Hennesey for 15k, Moet for N22k, then take a girl home and give her 50K, and you say he is just managing? Which part of the world are you. Go to America an d ask them how much they buy those drinks. Nigerians have drunk so much Hennessesy that the company decided to make a special bottle for Nigeria’s 50th anniversary. You think it is people who are just managing that caused that? Go and sleep.
You also said those girls come from nyanya, mararaba, kubwa, deidei for maitama and asokoro weekends to seek men jst like d poster. If I may ask where are you from? Those girls stay right in town- Wuse2, Zone 1, Zone 4 different palces in town. Yes, the odd ones do come from those places, but majority stay within, except you are a lowlifer the girls at the places come from out of the way places. And anyway, what makes you think coming from Maraba, Kubwa or Karu, makes them inferior than if they were in town. You don’t know that many neigbourhoods in Maraba of Kubwa are probably better than where you live?
My dear, talk about what you know and pay more attention to your law work and your bookish friends. Don’t come and start talking about a lifestyle you know nothing about because you have never been a part of parcel of it. The poster was spot on about most of his observations about Abuja. You have just fired a missile from the Apache helicopter. Don't mind these Americana girls that come out here to talk what they don't know. I deliberately refused to reply to it because I would have used very harsh words. I am going to respond to some of the things that have been said.
It is a well known fact, that in Abuja, the girls are the ones who keep running after the guys. Take a trip to the National Assembly or go to some other well known spots. Even in the so-called decent places.
I have once been slipped a note by my gateman from a girl who lives in a compound next door. Content: she has been watching me for a while and she likes me, and wonders if we can hook up. See me see wahala o. Girl wey I no even know, don dey watch me for a while.
Another one slipped me a note somewhere through a bartender. She came there with her boyfriend o, yet was slipping me notes. One gave me her number in a party, saying that I should not let her boyfriend know. The boyfriend is a friend of mine.
I am not saying there are exceptions. I have met good ones who are not into those runs. But the fact remains that the percentage of money-conscious babes in Abj is like 90%. Even the ones who are looking for marriage, indirectly use the things they see in Abj to set unnecessary high standards for their fiances. Why? |

I can see the moderator has pegged this on the home page, but with an incorrect link. Please correct. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Has Lionel Messi Surpassed The Status Of Pele, Maradona Or Zidane? by stagger: 2:42pm On May 22, 2011 |
Messi is nowhere near Maradona, talkless of Pele or Zidane.
I was privileged to watch the 1986 World Cup where Maradona shone like a star, and followed his career throughout. The guy was too much.
Pele is in another class. No one comes close.
Zidane? A father! What he used to do from when I first saw him as a substitute in a World Cup Qualifier in 1992 till he retired was just too much.
Messi dey try, but he is nowhere near these greats. |

But you see, I still ask my question.
Why should a girl walk in and ask you to buy her Moet for N20,000? It's like this.
Once I was in Kryxtal with a friend of mine. Then a girl with whom he had a one night stand about three years back, walked up to him.
It was like: " hey long time. How you dey?" And all that kind of stuff.
Next question by the girl. "Please buy me a bottle of Moet". (I won't tell you if he did or not. He may be reading this).
One week later, same girl walks up to him in the same place. This time, we were leaving the club. Now she came to ask for money. This time, my guy was peeved and flatly refused. Now she doesn't talk to him again.
My question is: why should it all be about money?
Can't two grown-ups just meet and have fun for the fun of it? It doesn't even have to end up in bleeping for the night.
I tell you, in Naija we have got this all wrong. This is the point of my discussion.
Which is why I took string exception to someone saying "Abuja girls are too hot and expensive for you".
Why the hell should girls in a place be classified as too hot and expensive, when I can just go across to some of our African neighbours and have the same experience, sans d'argent? |
