@ stagger, i am still waiting for you to get in touch.

I also read from one of your previous posts that you are considering cattle farming. How is that coming up?

I am still open to advise in regards to the topic of this thread.
I will send you the procedure for truck registration with major marketers tomorrow. My network is giving some trouble today because of the rains here.

Cattle farming? A definite yes. Though one of my boys who grew up rearing cattle will be handling that for me.
Politics › Re: Nigerian Indicted On Medicare Fraud! by stagger: 3:53pm On Jul 28, 2009
Why is this stuff supposed to be in the news? Because a Nigerian is involved? Is this the first time fraud has occured in Medicare?

If there were no American collaborators, would this have happened? Or are we being told that the said guy did everything alone?

Various persons have been convicted for all forms of fraud.

WHY IS IT ONLY WHEN NIGERIANS ARE INVOLVED THAT IT BECOMES NEWS?

WHEN MARION JONES AND OTHER ATHLETES WERE BUSY TAKING "THE CREAM" AND "THE CLEAR", DEPRIVING OTHER ATHLETES (INCLUDING THE NIGERIAN 4 X 400 RELAY TEAM THAT CAME SECOND IN THE FINAL RACE IN SYDNEY, AND WHO WERE AWARDED GOLD BY DEFAULT) WHO WORKED HARD OF THEIR HARD EARNED PRIZES, DID WE HEAR THIS MUCH NOISE?

A former world record holder who is American is serving jail time now for forging cheques! Why didn't the likes of Oprah Winfrey give it a one-hour time slot the way they gave to their story on fraud in Nigeria?

I am tired of this double standard approach to issues. A Nigerian was convicted of fraud; so what? Are Nigerians the only ones being convicted the world over?

Please give me a break! angry
Business › Re: Transport And Haulage Business by stagger: 5:36pm On Jul 27, 2009
Haulage business is broad. It can be lorries tipping sand, it can be trailers carrying cement, perishable goods, generators, etc. It can even be tankers carrying all forms of petroleum products intra and inter-city.

You need to clearly define what it is you are going into, because that will determine the kind of challenges you have to overcome. Whichever aspect of haulage you are going into, know some things for sure.

The police and local government officials have a special "liking" for trucks; collecting all forms of money from them along the way. Especially the police.

Operating a tanker may be the safest way to go. Just get it registered with a major petroleum marketer. It will be painted in their colours and then you can agree with them on what your trucking fees are like.

I can paste a schedule of bridge loading fees charged for transportation of petroleum products from the Port Harcourt refinery to various parts of the country. The price ranges from N30, 000 to N300,000 per trip, depending on the location the product will be taken to and the capacity of the tanker.

I am into petroleum marketing, so I can talk more authoritatively about tankers. Others who are more versed in haulage of general goods can shed more light on that aspect.

But make no mistake: HAULAGE BUSINESS IS GOOD BUSINESS, despite the challenges. There is no business without risk. I think a business that can give me between N30,000 to N300,000 per trip and more is every inch worth risking some capital for. wink

This guy is not going broke. His business may have experienced a downturn, but that does not mean he is going broke. Just another sensational headline to sell a desperate paper or online forum.

Donald Trump was in debt to the tune of $10bn ($9bn business, $1bn personal). But he pulled out of it because it was just a downturn and when he pulled the right strings, he was good to go.

Dangote has a lot of basic investments on ground that can enable him recover from what is going on. However, he needs to clean up his act. There are a lot of stuff he has been engaged in that are not morally right. He should change his ways lest God decide to make him pay a heavy price.

Looking for small business Ideas, I stay in Europe and intend importing goods back to Nigeria but not sure on what is doing well, not car business but something affordable with quick return on investment. Yes I am to do the research my self, but since I have people with brilliant ideas here I had to bring it up. Any idea is welcome. (2-3 Million Naira Investment).

thanks

Hve you seen the import prohibition list? All those guys shipping in clothes and other stuff on this list into Nigeria are directly contravening Customs laws. The list is so extensive that you begin to wonder what exactly you can actually import.

The guy who advised you to try exportation instead is giving you a really good advice. Stick with it.

I have been searching the net for books on how to sew and design clothes. More specifically, Nija clothes. It’s surprising how difficult it is trying to get one. Please if anyone has information on the matter or better still how I can procure these books either abroad or in Nija I’l be glad to know.

This site is awesome

Thanks
To cut a long story short, you need to learn how to sew with patterns. Pattern designing you may call it. It involves creating a style with software, getting it into patterns that can be printed with computer-aided design, and cut out for your tailors to work with, giving you inch perfect fitting and finishing.

This is the hallmark of modern day sewing which we do in our company, and acquiing this knowledge is compulsory for anyone who wants to be relevant in the world of fashion design.

If you want to get the training, you must be ready to cough out t least $3000 for this course, which willbe in phases and willtake you at least one year to learn.

It is a very practical course; sewing clothes is not learnt by reading textbooks! It's that simple.

Please what kind of business can i start with a 100k loan. I'll really appreciate your suggestions as i've an uncle whose willing to loan me that amount. Remember dangote was 21 when his uncle gave him a business of loan of 100k too, and now he's on forbes listing. So any advice you can give someone whose determined to be as great or even greater would be highly valued. But please recharge cards should be out of the question because i've tried that before and it didn't work out
Point of correction. The N50,000 Dangote's uncle gave him in 1977 was equivalent to some deadly millions today. My dad's salary at the time was N800 and this took care of the family with plenty to spare at the end of the month.

Get the drift?

Look around your environment and see what great need there is that you can fill. Then you will make it (with struggles o!)

I have a 33000 Litres Tanker can give a rough guide on my earnings monthly.
It presently costs between N30,000 to N50,000 to carry petroleum products from one of the refineries to locations in the same city, and substantially more inter-state.

This much i know because i am in petroleum marketing biz.

However to make this work for you, you need to make an arrangement with a major or independent marketer to use your truck for this purpose and have the truck registered.

To what extent have you used your truck to make this money if i may ask?
Business › Re: Exporting Charcoal And Bitter Kola by stagger: 3:50pm On Jul 10, 2009
N40,000 cannot get you into the business of exportation of charcoal or any other commodity. That is a fact. The guy has to get more money, or he should do some other business to generate the money and then kick off.

He needs a minimum of N400,000 to start the business successfully, because in addition to sourcing the products, he needs to pay the cost of freight, the NESS fees, insurance fees, etc.
Business › Re: Filling Station Business by stagger: 8:57pm On Jul 09, 2009
A lot of people just post things about businesses they know nothing about. I will illustrate.

Firstly, the starter of this thread is talking about starting a business; a filling station business. He is not talking about just station construction. That is only one aspect. Some people here who are saying it doesn't cost as much as N50million to start this businesses simply do not know what they are saying.

How much does a plot of land go for in a place like Abuja. Lagos or PH? In some places, as much as N15million a plot! In others, even more! You need at least 3 plots to build a standard station woth 6 pumps minimum (4 PMS, 1 AGO, 1 DPK).

By the time you are done with the various stages of DPR (APPROVAL TO CONSTRUCT) and PPMC (APPROVAL TO LIFT AND SELL PETROLEUM PRODUCTS UNDER CATEGORY 2 LICENSING) approvals as well as construction, at least N30million would have been spent.

By the time you now get into trucking, working capital, licensing of the workers, how much do you think you would have spent?

I did a feasibility for someone and the amount came to roughly N45million (as at 2008). So those who feel the N50million figure is unrealistic should give us their own figures and how they arrived at them. Many stations are being advertised for between N150million to N180million in some locations I know of. So what are we saying here?

Secondly, someone said it is not a profitable venture. Very funny! Let's do some Maths here.

There is at least a N3 gain margin for every litre of PMS (after all costs have been deducted). A normal allocation to a station is 2 trucks a day. A truck is 30,000 or 33, 000 litres. If a station gets two 30,000 litre trucks a day, that is N3 X 60,000 litres = N180, 000 a day. This translates to N1, 080, 000 (Monday to Saturday).

Question is do they meet this sale target? Yes! Some of our major roads have an unbelieveable amount of traffic on them. During the last fuel scarcity, I actually took time to cross check how long two trucks given to a particular station lasted. They ran out even before the day ended.

Now how can anyone tell me that a venture that is making a profit of N1m every week (on PMS alone) is not profitable?

Please let's get our facts straight so we know what is truly obtainable.

Look before you leap is the best advice anyone can give you at this stage.

Generally speaking, the businesses centred on the basic human needs and everyday human activities are probably the best business you can go into. That will ensure a steady flow of clients and money into your bank account.

Get into Nollywood. Find a way to get on the set of one of the video shoots where you can do the hair of some of the Nollywood stars (please make sure you are good at waht you do and try to get some unique styles no one else has).

Before you know it, you will be a household name and all roads will lead to your area. Like one of the posters said, something is missing. May even be your environment. Maybe a relocation to a high profile area will do the trick.

Ultimately I think you need to seek the face of God to give you wisdom and direction for the business. He always has answers. I have tasted it and I can say that this option has NEVER failed me. God's grace!

Naija is a country where fish eat fish to grow (if you know what i mean). Did I say naija only? I watched a documentary of how a Romanian engineer who came up with technology to put out oil well fires was scammed out of it by a Western company whom he was trying to commit to financing the project.

So you see your proposal? Guard it jealously o! Some of my yet to be launched business proposals are on my laptop heavily password protected. It is worth it.

I'm sure you have read from the thread on how banks rip off customers that they are some of the greatest and corporately packaged thieves. They are not to be trusted.
Business › Re: Who Is This Sweet-tongue Mr. Forex Guy On Our Radio Sets In Lagos? by stagger: 7:45pm On Jul 06, 2009
The guy has been on ALL the radio stations in Abuja for close to one year plus. Then his seminar fees were 20,000, going up to 25,000 this year. As someone who has been trading forex for two years, I can tell you that it is a tall order to make up to 30% daily on a consistent basis. sometimes you have sweet moments, sometimes you can really suffer the kind of moments when you really wonder if you were hit by a sucker punch.

I've been there, I can tell you. The safest returns I ever promise any of my trainees is to aim for 40% a month, sometimes even 30% a month. Aiming for 30% a day is dangerous. I've never met him, so I cannot comment on his trade tactics or any of his deals. But people should be careful. Forex should only be traded with funds you can afford to lose.

There are other businesses that can give you great returns for N1m. Presently I cannot afford to lose N1m.
Business › Re: Nigerians Lament Closure Of Businesses In Ghana by stagger: 9:25pm On Jul 05, 2009
Did i read that some people are committing suicide? For what?

If the Ghanaian govt doesn't want Nigerians doing business there, then they should all put out and see the ripple effect it will have on the economy there. Afterall, there are a million and one places one can do business on earth.

When the British govt placed the visa and travel restrictions some years back (without knowing that the people they were banning constituted their largest customer base), who suffered in the end? Was the ban not reversed a few months later?

Our people should stop cheapening themselves. Leave their land for them and let God be the judge.

A private company in which i am a shareholder applied for and got a microfinance loan last year. Here's what you need to do to make it happen.

Open an account and run it for three months. The key here is to make sure that the inflow in any one of those months is equivalent to 30% of the total amount you want to borrow. Why?

Most MFBs grant loans with 3 months tenor. The thinking is that if your business brings in 30% of the loan amount monthly, then there is the likelihood that in 3 months, you will be able to clear the loan payments.

Loans are not suitable for every business. Please remember that. So before you stick your neck out to borrow, make sure you actually need that loan.
