naijadeyhia: If you could pick that singular highlighted statement I made and leave out the rest what does that say? If you have an answer say it and stop trying to explain me. Explain evolution with proof. I didnt ask for proof of me or my words but proof of evolution.
My point was that what you picked out changed the context of your question. You rephrased and made more sense contextually, albeit erroneously. Someone said earlier that you don't believe in evolution, you understand it (Hahn I think). It's not anyone's responsibility here to help you understand (with the way you're going at it). The Internet is there for research purposes. You only need to seek. Many of the people that understand evolution here didn't do so via such cynical means. I bet if you did your research well enough and came here with valid questions, you would get valid answers. But you're not after valid answers. There are theists that understand it, and there are atheists that don't. It has nothing to do with belief in diety(ies). Asking for evidence for evolution as a form of challenge is intellectually downgrading for anybody that accepts because your motives are obvious. You need evidence? Seek it diligently and ye shall find.
naijadeyhia: I saw it clearly. So let me help rephrase. If evolution isnt the random mashing together of different species is it then the random mashing together of same species or the intelligent mashing together of same species?
If you randomly mash together same species would you get a different specie?
Yes or no?
First question is fallacious and second reeks of a poor understanding of how evolution works. Get the basics bro. Sign up for Evolution 101.
zyonnista Veekid, officialdayo,Roidatom , profem1, Mattex001 ,stainlex , Richiy, Never knew people use Quora in Naija like this o. That Quora is like the best thing to happen to internet. Guys. Can we connect to share some interesting topics we have come across on Quora and Ted? Maybe we create a whatsapp group or something. #likeminds.
Nice concept. I'm addicted to Quora o! Oya create group nao..I'm game.
Karanka: @kraftykc: it's plain to see where the problem lies. I mean, you read Purple Hibiscus,Half of a yellow sun,Americanah ( books that have won several awards) and you didn't think much of them. You even consider 'Orange is the new black' crappy? Really? A highly acclaimed movie in it's 6th season that has also won several major awards? Dude, the problem isn't far from you.
You really shouldn't blame a fella for expecting too much from his or her sources of entertainment. Our tastes are quite different from each other (Man. Meat. Poison.)...Biko bone the guy.
Agnostic here and like everyone else here, no be one day matter.
It all started with soccer and the super eagles. Firstly, I saw them pray before matches and then go on to either lose or draw the match (tbh they won some sha). In retrospect, I can't say if they were really praying or giving themselves some pep talk but it looked like prayers to me back then and I was disappointed anytime they didn't win. I saw that prayers didn't always work then. Seed sown.
Then came France '98. Nigeria had just lost embarrassingly to Denmark and I was watching the replay some days after. I asked my mom whether it would be possible for Nigeria to win the match since nothing was impossible for God to do. She said it wasn't possible, that it's the past (and ignoring the part that says with God, nothing is impossible). I felt bad and disappointed kinda too. I was naïve but patriotic. Seed germinating.
My dad fell sick some years later and I watched as God ignored all prayers but one. The only prayer he answered was the one in which my mom said "God, if you won't heal this man, let him die so this suffering can stop". I guess God was like "I thought you'd never ask" or "Say no more". Seed still germinating.
My mom encouraged me to be active in church. I tried to. I got baptized and became a full member in my church. I asked myself why I was a Christian and when I discovered that it was because I was born into a Christian home, I decided to go on a journey of personal discovery. I got me a jotter, and decided to study the bible. I also wanted to speak in tongues too, but all efforts were in vain. Seed transplanted.
So while studying the bible, as usual, things didn't make sense. I continued. And then gave up. I never liked going to church though but I respected the teachings of some pastors (especially Poju Oyemade). Nevertheless, I had started vexing with some bible stories, especially the children that were devoured for mocking a prophet. Then came the many many plenty versions and doctrines of church denominations and proliferation of fake miracles on TV (when cripples littered Kano street in Lagos). Seed fertilized.
So I read Dan Brown's Da Vinci code and how it happened that there were other gospel authors apart from the ones in the New Testament. It made sense. Paul, Mathew, Luke et al could not have been the only guys that could write about their experiences with Jesus. There had to be others who wrote something down and even Jesus shoulda dropped some notes. I started researching independently and discovered there were indeed other texts written by other disciples which had been excluded from the NT. Then it dawned on me that the 66 books we revere so much were handpicked by people like me. They determined how we lived our lives today and I didn't like that. Seed watered.
The doubts grew with my coming across of one .docx file listing bible contradictions. I checked em out myself and it now made sense. It only had to be the word of ancient men for the contradictions to be this many. No wonder. God, the great grand architect of the universe (Always been a space buff too) couldn't put his thoughts together and guide some mortals into writing a perfect book. Did he need lessons from Shakespeare?? Something had to be wrong with that God. Seed now flourishing.
Then I saw the 3-part documentary, Zeitgeist, and boy was this eye-opening! I mean, I felt scales fall off my eyes. While trying to confirm/refute the things I saw in that documentary, I came across the works of Sam Harris, then Christopher Hitchens, Dan Dennet, Carl Sagan, Brian Greene, Richard Dawkins, Thomas Paine and all. Even saw a number of Bill Maher's shows and his 'Religulous' documentary. At this point, I knew there was no going back. I dropped religion completely, and stopped believing in the idea of a religious God. Seed blossoming by the river side!
It dawned on me that I had to learn a lot to be able to justify my decisions. Then came the research about evolution and natural selection, the Big Bang theory, and all the shït that the average religious person doesn't know jack about. I was awed. I got more answers in a space of 12-18 months than I have ever had all my life. No contradictions, no threat of eternal bliss/damnation, no asceticism or whatnot, just a steady dose of knowledge that I can't even consume in my lifetime. Seed now tree.
I love the life I'm living now. I'm one of the NicestGuysEverLiveth and I don't need any moral guidance from any religion. Me a inconsequential ina the grand scheme of things and me no need Jah ina me life. When I'm done living, I want to be remembered for touching as many lives as possible (positively) and that's what guides my diurnal activities. Thanks for reading, I'll show myself out...
HardMirror: Hahahahahahaahahaahahahahahaha!!!!! You did not even watch the video you posted here. Abeg go and watch it. The video was even made by an atheist. He spent the first 3 min building on a joke and when he got to 3minute 42 second of the video he revealed it was just an April fool prank. He spent the remaining 17 minutes of the video challenging christians to think.
I just wasted my mb watching a 20minutes of a video that was nothing but april fool.
You get patience o! I stopped at "miraculously healed by antibiotics"
Bro, that video was an April fool video (skip to between the 3rd and 4th minutes). You can't prove serious stuff like that with before and after pictures!!! I even thought it was gon be a video of the limb growing back sef. I'd advice guys her not to waste mb by clicking the link! It's bollocks! Nothing was healed. Besides, the girl in question died later and the news article announcing her death mentioned her use of prosthetic limbs. Bro, you just embarrassed yourself here.
4everGod1: I lobe your open mindedness my brother. You hae posted a link that would help prove that God heals amputees but watch them say they cannot waste their data to watch it. Proof is something they crave but when it is presented they still run away from.
If this video is what you call proof then I'm afraid you either didn't watch it or you are so parochial to the point of not being able to process simple information. You guys should stop embarrassing yourselves for the sake of proving what not!
Op, sincerely, you and the other guy arguing with donnffd don't understand the evolution and Big Bang theories. You need to do some studying, not for conversion purposes, but for the sake of appearing learned when arguing.
Your child's scenario. I'll try tackling this from a binary logic cüm probabilistic perspective. I'll assume a lot for clarity sake but I'm sure you'd catch my drift. The probabilities of all the individual events that led to your son ending up on the expressway are between 0 and 1. Adding them all up will give a total probability of between 1 and 0. This makes the scenario fall within the ambit of mathematical explanation, hence, reality (btw, is reality as you used here supposed to be the opposite of coincidence?).
Your family case scenario. It's unfortunate that you had to go through such. Accept my deepest condolences. However, any logical explanation would be grossly erroneous at best because of the absence of autopsy or pathological reports containing explanations of the actual causes of the deaths of your family members and the 'killer-man'. I'd advice you go for comprehensive medical checkups on a regular basis though.
I might be wrong, but my point is, it doesn't have to have a supernatural cause because it appears inexplicable to you. There's so much you and I don't know about a lot.
This Aisha M Buhari had a case in court in 2016... She has been sued multiple times. This is obviously someone that has been in trouble with the law many times. Mostly to do with owing people money..
Seun: Many people feel society should let people believe whatever they want to believe ans not bother them as long as they are not imposing their beliefs on others. I disagree. All beliefs should be fair game for criticism, mockery and objective testing so that they can be abandoned if they are shown to be wrong. There should be no sacred cows because every wrong belief can cause harm.
Word. Reminds me of a P. C. Hodgell quote that goes:
That which can be destroyed by the truth, should be.
Op, it's not Last Cobra, it's Lance Corporal...I repped TR back in 2009..Camp life was the bomb! I feel nostalgic reading your post. Have fun jare! If you find yourself in Takum for your PPA, let me know.
Vickyydera: I pay much attention in that movie, rewatch that scene and you will see how his face changed into a serious man face. I pick details like mad lolz. my school is strike,so I get time.
Vickyydera: It almost had to have been Jaquen that pose as Arya. We've seen him use Arya's face before, last season. Arya had untold amounts of cold, hard cash and beautiful clothes seemingly from nowhere. Her dialogue wasn't consistent with her character. Arya also wouldn't be stupid enough to let her guard down like that. I say Jaquen lured the waif (who has now disobeyed him) and is posing as Arya in a very public way, thus giving more credence to her death. I don't know but if you put all the details together it makes sense that a girl wasn't arya last night... Never are we shown that she get a lot of money....she didn't seem to get a lot while begging. Also Jaquen walks with his two hands behind his back, arya dont walk like that ,she also didn't have her needles.
Interesting perspective..I kinda was hoping that she'll be rescued by Lady Crane tho..But your theory is highly sensemaking!
I remember when real men, did not have the time to be "BEAUTIFUL" as they were usually busy trying to put food on their tables. But this days, civilization has started the gradual "FEMININE-ZATION" of our men, and real men are now starting to look, act and do make ups like women.

What kind of a man even stands in front of a Mirror to check himself out?
johnydon22: ..Humanity is so vulnerable that we leave that which is in front of us to chase after that which we do not have or know but a figment of our imaginations, thoughts and wishes.
the above quote of mine holds true for our perception of death.
Haven't you noticed how the word "Death" gives rise to different philosophies of hopeful realities to many.
-On one hand some speculate we do not really die but transcends and then gets reborn and live again and so it goes in a circle.
-Another suggests we do not get reborn but some thinking formless needless part of us continues somewhere else.
-Plato suggests the body is a prison for the soul.
Where as all these philosophies are profound and hopeful, i also call it greed, selfishness and a product of an unmatched ego wielded only by the human mind.
Humans have that egoistic tendency of deluding themselves to be the most important part of the universe..
That is why in this deluding ego they see themselves as deserving to live again but not every other animal or living thing in this earth that also live as they live and feel as they do.
-Just how important are we in this universe?
More important than the stars? Without the stars we won't be here but without us they were, are and will be.
More important than the plants ? without them we won't be here but without us they were, are and will be.
So how exactly are we more important, why do we prize ourselves the most important part of the cosmos when we are so deplorable and expendable that the cosmos won't even notice our disappearance.
So many stories have littered the course of human philosophy on the eventuality of death.
So many wishful hopeful fantasies has been conceived to give hope and comfort to the human mind when faced with the inevitability of death.
-We shall see again in paradise -we shall be reborn again -we shall make merry in Valhalla
amongst thousands of such tales.. I do not know how enticing these stories are but i know the greed of a human mind makes them comforting as nobody would like to imagine the absoluteness of the end of our being.
That to me comes from a short memory cus just a little journey backwards whene we were not here, imagining inexistence won't be far fetched.
We have been dead for an infinite time backwards, now we are here and we will soon be dead how then can we not imagine our the state we were before coming to this?.
I really understand the reasons why all these stories crop up in the human mind, why all these philosophies and emotional clutch to a comforting tale defines a huge part of our belief
It is because of the vulnerability of our being.
Being that almost certainly we are probably the only species amongst all in this planet that know at a very young age that we would die one day.
This knowledge of our inevitable end is somewhat like a burden to us .
I doubt that other species Chimpanzee, dogs , elephants even though alive as we are are fretting over an afterlife or performing rituals to earn a place in paradise or somewhere else outside the cosmos.
No they just live in the moment.
With all these stories filling the gap left by fear, vulnerability of our mind, we yet have no evidence to support these fantasies.
I do not claim to have knowledge of what happens in death but if anybody, person or book claims to know, they are both lying and fraudulent.
Because they do not know.
We are so concerned by what we want to be, by what we wish for that we forget and pay little mind to what we have which is NOW
So isn't it better and more noble we forget all these stories and focus on what we have and where we are which is Now and Here
Here and Now are the most important, certain aspect of it all, make them count and don't waste them chasing after a vague shadow of an uncertain wishful fantasy.
In complete support of your stance, here's a Nabokov quote that puts things in perspective.
"The cradle rocks above an abyss, and common sense tells us that our existence is but a brief crack of light between two eternities of darkness. Although the two are identical twins, man, as a rule, views the prenatal abyss with more calm than the one he is headed for (at some forty-five hundred heartbeats an hour)"
djlaqua91: #GOT are killing the dire-wolves to save their CGI budget. Those things, wights and dragons are fucking expensive to produce. As for Olly his death was the only kids own I was happy with. He wasn't adding anything to the show unlike Joffrey. Ramsay Bolton is my favourite villian right now, killing him before the series finale will be a waste. I'm guessing Sansa Stark will be the one to end his life if he dies.
I beg to differ bro. With the success of this show, I doubt if the budget is an issue. Anyways, got a credible source for this claim?
InesQor: If you can see into the future and the past, you better know how to code info or else you will cause many problems. Some mistakes MUST be made, but if people know they will try to avoid these mistakes or try to take advantage of profits - and things will get ruined.
Yes o! Yawa go gas! Because without Bran fücking up, there'll be no Hodor..but without Hodor, there'll be no Bran fucking up at weirwood too. Abeg, this loop crase gan! Lol..
Endy10: I don't think its dumb. Its actually genius. Time itself is infinite, which means the past, present and future are currently happening at the same time. Bran being a warg, was able to tap into that blackhole, that connects every aspect of time together. Therefore actions in anytime (past, present, future) affect themselves. Bran warging into Hodor in the present while having a connection with the past created a time warp where the actions of the present affect the past, hence 'the past hodor' feeling the effects. According to the bloodraven, the ink of the past is set and dry, because of this, the action of the present affecting the past is so intense that it literally broke 'past' Hodor's mind. Now due to the past being changed, it carries this effect to the future, which is the present(Hodor holding the door).
I felt a headache after typing this
Try this. If Bran hadn't tampered with Hodor's past (as was revealed in this episode), Hodor wouldn't have been able to save his life on a few occasions and serve as his 'wheelchair', enabling him to get to the weirwood and meet the 3-eyed Raven, and consequently fücking things up for the white walkers to attack the weirwood and create an opportunity for Bran to mess Hodor's mind up by getting him to 'Hold the Door'.... My eye dey turn me abeg..lol
Endy10: Yes it was. He just couldn't keep his hands to himself. After watching the episode, a little part of me wished the paralysis extended to his hands. 'You are not ready', said the three eyed raven(its bloodraven I think) but noooo, Bran has got to do what Bran has got to do. Everything is his fault, down to getting himself marked by the nights king to killing summer, leaf and that man Hodor(RIP). Worst part he got Willis mind srewed up! So yes, its is fault. He better make ammend by finding a solution to the 'white walkers' problem
Bro, but there's nothing stopping the 3-eyed Raven from telling Bran what would happen if he warged without his guidance..The man sef too dey code info!
